Replication Data for: Tanycytes from a bird’s eye view: gene expression profiling of the tanycytic region under different seasonal states in the Svalbard ptarmigan
Tanycytes around the third ventricle and the adjacent mediobasal hypothalamus are crucial components to trigger photoperiodic responses in breeding and metabolism. In mammals, tanycytes are known to regulate hypothalamic thyroid hormone conversion, a process which is linked to seasonal reproduction. They are further involved in retinoic acid signalling, neurogenesis, and nutritional gatekeeping, all of which have been linked to the photoperiodic regulation of metabolism. The region is neuroanatomically conserved between mammals and birds but, apart from the hypothalamic thyroid hormone conversion, little is known about the functional roles of tanycytes in birds. We, hence, aimed to give a comprehensive characterisation of gene expressions in avian tanycytes and surrounding cells under different photoperiodic reproductive and metabolic states.
For this purpose, we used the Svalbard ptarmigan (Lagopus muta hyperborea), a high-Arctic bird species which shows pronounced seasonal rhythms in breeding and body mass. We applied a simple photoperiodic extension protocol to short-day adapted birds to trigger a long-day response which is marked by initiation of breeding and loss in body mass. After several weeks under a long photoperiod, the innate development of photorefractoriness led to a reversal to the short-day phenotype marked by the termination of breeding and gain in body mass. We sampled birds at different seasonal states and used laser-capturing and RNAseq to correlate the seasonal phenotype with the gene expressions in tanycytes and the surrounding area.

The data are real automobile insurance data from a Norwegian company in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The source is confidential. The example comes from a Norwegian insurance company, was shared with Erik Bølviken and consists of n=6446 claims of cost due to personal injuries in motor insurance with the deductible subtracted. They include cost due to personal injuries. They have mean and standard deviation 23.9 and 28.9 in 1000 NOK, and are heavy-tailed with skewness 5.6 and kurtosis 71.2

Replication Data for Quantifying Devotion: A Mixed-Methods Study of Pious Donation in the Nidaros Province, c. 1160–1540
This dataset was compiled for the PhD dissertation "Quantifying Devotion: A Mixed-Methods Study of Pious Donation in the Nidaros Province, c. 1160–1540". It contains observations representing all known charters of pious donation published in various source editions (Diplomatarium Norvegicum, the Akershus register, and others). Lubish benefactors are also included (Bruns's Bergenfahrer, Meyer's Lübecker Testamente, and others).Abstract:
"Just as time slips away and diminishes, so too do temporal actions fade from the memory of humankind, unless fortified by writings. Therefore, in the wise custom of foresight, one pre-empts the indeterminate hour of death and unpredictable outcomes of events through the arrangement of one’s goods and the testimony of written wills."1
King Magnus Lagabøte, emblematic of his era, was articulating sentiments that resonated widely during his time. Alongside the introduction of Christianity to what would later become the Nidaros province, a rise of book-and-parchment literacy using the Latin script had occurred. This had enabled detailed documentation of acts of piety, which could secure commemoration across generations. In adopting these practices, the benefactors of this province were continuing a tradition already upheld by their southern coreligionists for centuries.
This dissertation presents a quantitative analysis of pious donations documented in charters from the Nidaros province during the Middle Ages. As these documents have yet to be collected and researched as a distinct document category, the present project represents a pioneering work. Through a mixed methods research model, supplementing the quantitative results with more traditional, qualitative research methods, the study explores how the practice spread through elite society, and across time and space.
Furthermore, this dissertation examines the motivations behind the involvement in the practice of making and documenting pious donations. Throughout the dissertation, a comparative perspective is employed, in which the donations found in the wills of Lubish merchants residing in the town of Bergen are compared to those of the native text witnesses issued across the province. This comparative perspective enables the elucidation of the local peculiarities, as well as the universal traditions of pious donation practised in the Nidaros province. Among its many findings, the
research identifies an increase in laypeople’s involvement in pious donations by the last quarter of the thirteenth century and participation across a wider segment of society by c. 1300, marking a diversification of the practice which has been debated in previous scholarship.
Additionally, it demonstrates the ways in which the practice of pious donation not only expressed piety and a desire for salvation, but also served as a means to gain prestige and maintain social bonds and obligations. Among the latter, this study has noted a connection between inheritance, especially of land, and commemoration obtained through donations. The study thus sheds light on the significance of spiritual
aid within medieval society and the complex social and interpersonal dynamics it fostered.

Replication Data for: Dormivit et resurgit. A ‘language-ecology’ approach to the diachrony of the Latin ingressive perfect
Dataset includes annotated corpus data from Latin texts from the 3rd c. BCE until the 6th c. CE. Attestations of 'perfectum' stem forms of a selection of common stative verbs were extracted from major online corpora (about 14.000 data points); a random sample (n = 234) that represents all text types and time periods as evenly as possible was then subjected to a close-reading analysis in order to ascertain the attestation rate of 'ingressive' meaning with the target observations. Only the data points that were annotated in full are included in the current dataset
Background data for: Prehospital prediction of clinical course in patients with suspected sepsis
This dataset is extracted from an ambulance quality registry of patients with suspected sepsis managed by the ambulance department of the University hospital of Northern Norway. Data was collected from patients with suspected sepsis who were given pre-hospital intravenous antibiotics and transported to hospital by the University of Northern Norways ambulance service from May 2018 to August 2022. The dataset was extracted to conduct a study on the ability of data available in the prehospital setting to predict the clinical trajectory for patients with suspected sepsis. The dataset contains demographic data and clinical data from both prehospital and in-hospital setting.Background:
Prediction of the clinical trajectory for patients with suspected sepsis aid clinical decisions. Early intravenous antibiotic therapy is important for a subgroup of the patients and it was applied in the ambulance service we studied. Our aim was to compare how parameters from the patient history and clinical findings available in the prehospital setting can identify patients with the most severe prognosis. In addition, we studied how the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS2) and quick Sepsis-Related Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA)-scores could predict outcomes.
Methods:
We prospectively collected prehospital data from patients with suspected sepsis in the ambulance service and supplemented the data retrospectively with in-hospital findings. The primary outcomes were 1) sepsis diagnosis after admission, 2) development of septic shock and 3) 30-day all-cause mortality. Admission SOFA score was used as a proxy for sepsis, and need for intravenous fluid resuscitation and pressor defined patients with septic shock. We used regression analysis to identify factors that predicted the three outcomes and performed receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of qSOFA and NEWS2’s ability to predict the same outcomes.
Results:
We included 398 patients with a median age of 76 years and a 30-day all-cause mortality of 10.1 %. Different prehospital variables were associated with the three different outcomes. In the unadjusted regression analysis NEWS2-score, oxygen saturation, Glasgow Coma Score, and sex were associated with all outcomes. With cut-off points for the scoring systems set by Youden’s J statistic, the difference in sensitivity and specificity between NEWS2 and qSOFA was not clinically significant. Some of the differences between qSOFA and NEWS2 were explained by the cut-off values and not by inherent properties in the scoring systems. Optimal cut-off values for NEWS2 differed between sexes for prediction of sepsis and septic shock, but this must be verified in future studies. In the final regression model, neither NEWS2 nor qSOFA contributed to prediction of all three outcomes.
Conclusions:
Our findings suggest that septic shock is better predicted from prehospital variables than sepsis, and that sepsis is more easily predicted than 30-day mortality. Predictive information is lost if scoring systems are applied alone
Replication Data for: Virtual fencing in remote boreal forests: performance of commercially available GPS collars for free-ranging cattle
This dataset contains all the raw data sets, processing code, and analysis for reproducing and replicating the analysis for the article: Virtual fencing in remote boreal forests: performance of commercially available GPS collars for free-ranging cattle. In total there are 21 files included, from which '01_Analysis.html' and '01_Analysis.pdf' describes the final output of all analysis and includes the figures as published in the article. '01_Analysis.qmd' is a quarto markdown file (Quarto is a multi-language, next generation version of R Markdown from Posit, see https://quarto.org/) which makes it possible to rerun the analysis. This file is dependent on the other files and the original folder structure. The dependent files include spatial information from the GPS collars ('collars.csv' and 'collars_new.csv'), measures from the differential GPS ('dGPS.csv' and 'dGPS_new.csv'), observations from field personnel ('kobo_forms.csv'), environmental information (all '.tiff' files), and other supporting information. Furthermore, data pre processing is conducted in the R-script '02_preparation_data.R' creating two output files ('processed_data_mob.txt' and 'processed_data_stat.txt'). This script can be optionally sourced from '01_Analysis.qmd'.
Article abstract:
Background
The use of virtual fencing in cattle farming is beneficial due to its flexibility, not fragmenting the landscape or restricting access like physical fences. Using GPS technology, virtual fence units emit an audible signal and a low-energy electric shock when crossing a predefined border. However, animal welfare concerns arise from potential stress and confusion caused by GPS errors. Especially in large remote grazing areas and complex terrains, where the performance of the GPS units can be affected by landscape structure, errors can lead to unnecessary shocks to the animals. This study aimed to explore factors affecting the GPS performance of commercially available virtual fence collars for cattle (NoFence©), both using static tests and mobile tests, i.e. when deployed on free-ranging cattle.
Results
The static tests revealed generally high fix success rates (% successful positioning attempts), and a lower success rate at four of 30 test locations was most likely due to a lack in GSM coverage. On average the GPS precision and accuracy errors were 3.3 m ±2.5 SD and 4.6 m ±3.2 SD, respectively. We found strong evidence that the GPS precision and accuracy errors were affected by the canopy cover, with increased errors under closed canopies. We also found evidence for an effect of the sky-view on the GPS performance, although at a lesser extent than canopy. The direction of the accuracy error in the cartesian plane was not uniform, but biased, depending on the aspect of the test locations. With an average of 10.8 m ±6.8 SD, the accuracy error of the mobile tests was more than double that of the static tests. Furthermore, we found evidence that more rugged landscapes resulted in higher GPS accuracy errors. However, the error was not affected by canopy cover, sky-view, or behaviors during the mobile tests.
Conclusions
This study showed that GPS performance can be negatively affected by landscape complexity, such as increased ruggedness and covered habitats, resulting in reduced virtual fence effectiveness and potential welfare concerns for cattle. These issues can be mitigated through proper pasture planning, such as avoiding rugged areas for the virtual fence border
Data for Project: How Isostasy is presented in Introductory Geosciences Textbooks
This dataset contains the background data for a multi-method study on the presentation of the topic of isostasy in predominantly introductory geosciences textbooks. It includes information on the textbooks considered and the short quotes that indicated areas of particular relevance to the questions of interest. The introductory textbooks were those available in the textbook collection of the Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo. There is also individual textbook information on the structure of presentations of isostasy in intermediate textbooks, leading to the composite structure in publication. These textbooks were found in the University of Oslo's Science Library
Data Set from Flexural, Impact, and Hydraulic Pressure Tests on Precast Concrete Geothermal Energy Piles
A dataset from the flexural, impact and hydraulic pressure tests performed on seven precast concrete driven energy pile foundations are shared publicly on this database.Abstract: Geothermal energy pile foundations are among the most common types of energy geostructures that provide structural support and can be used as a source with ground source heat pumps for heating and cooling buildings. Energy piles can be categorized into cast-in-place and precast piles. Driven precast concrete energy piles can be installed up to the bedrock level, with higher quality, lower cost, and faster installation process compared to cast-in-place energy piles. Precast concrete driven energy pile foundations are manufactured segmentally, and the segments are connected using a suitable type of joint that provides structural integrity and allows continuity of heat exchanging pipes. An innovative and novel steel driven energy pile (DEP) joint was used to manufacture seven precast concrete driven energy piles. To assure the proper performance of the energy piles and the DEP joint, flexural, impact, and hydraulic pressure tests were performed according to the BS EN 12794 standard and the ASTM F2164-21, respectively. The impact test data includes the PDA files, which can be opened using CAPWAP® 2014 software. The data from pressure tests are summarized in a single Excel document. The data of flexural tests includes the force-displacement test data in a single Excel document and also the related digital image correlation (DIC) data, which can be opened by VIC3D 9.4.22 software. The DIC data of each experiment is compiled within a single zip file. The data of this study can be used as a reference for future research and development on driven energy pile joints
