    Data accompanying the article Towards Sound Innovation Engines Using Pattern-Producing Networks and Audio Graphs. The Innovation Engine algorithm is used to evolve sounds, where Quality Diversity search is guided by the YAMNet classifier to discover sounds.This study proposes the application of a system for generative sound synthesis that automates the discovery of inspiring sounds using Quality Diversity algorithms and a discriminative model inspired by the Innovation Engine algorithm. The approach addresses the challenges composers face in creating and refining new tools to achieve their musical goals. By promoting diversity and fostering serendipitous discoveries, the proposed approach expands the composer’s palette and makes the entirety of the sonic domain more accessible. The study presents generated sound objects through an online explorer and as rendered sound files, as well as an experimental application showcasing the creative potential of the discovered sounds. Our proposed approach offers a promising direction for sonic design that embraces automation, serendipity, and creativity

In the article, I test and discuss methodological and theoretical implications of combining classic sociolinguistic interview data with data from a spoken corpus. Thus, the data combined in this set stem from two sources, as explained in the ReadMe:Audio-recorded sociolinguistic interviews were conducted in Edinburgh, Scotland by Ole Schützler in March 2008, yielding the material labeled as "TX", "narrative", "questions" and "WL" in the dataset.The genre "btal" was taken from the Scottish component of the International Corpus of English (ICE-Scotland), published here: https://github.com/langres/ICE-Scotland.The annotation (manually corrected forced alignment) of ICE-Scotland was funded by the German Research Foundation / Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), as specified below, in a project with Ulrike Gut and Ole Schützler as principal investigators and Zeyu Li and Jenny Herzky as research assistants.</p

    DATASET MIGRATED FROM FIGSHARE: Article Abstract - Related PublicationPurpose: To characterize retinal structural biomarkers for progression in adult-onset Stargardt 19 disease from multimodal retinal imaging in-vivo maps.Methods: Seven adult patients (29–69 years; 3 males) with genetically-confirmed and clinical diagnosed adult-onset Stargardt disease and age-matched healthy controls were imaged with confocal and non-confocal Adaptive Optics Scanning Light Ophthalmoscopy (AOSLO), optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus infrared (FIR), short wavelength-autofluorescence (FAF) and color fundus photography (CFP). Images from each modality were scaled for differences in lateral magnification before montages of AOSLO images were aligned with en-face FIR, FAF and OCT scans to explore changes in retinal structure across imaging modalities. Photoreceptors, retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells, flecks, and other retinal alterations in macular regions were identified, delineated, and correlated across imaging modalities. Retinal layer-thicknesses were extracted from segmented OCT images in areas of normal appearance on clinical imaging and intact outer retinal structure on OCT. Eccentricity dependency in cell density was compared with retinal thickness and outer retinal layer thickness, evaluated across patients, and compared with data from healthy controls.Results: In patients with Stargardt disease, alterations in retinal structure were visible in different image modalities depending on layer location and structural properties. The patients had highly variable foveal structure, associated with equally variable visual acuity (-0.02 to 0.98 logMAR). Cone and rod photoreceptors, as well as RPE-like structures in some areas, could be quantified on non-confocal split-detection AOSLO images. RPE cells were also visible on dark field AOSLO images close to the foveal center. Hypo-reflective gaps of non-waveguiding cones (dark cones) were seen on confocal AOSLO in regions with clinically normal CFP, FIR, FAF and OCT appearance and an intact cone inner segment mosaic in three patients.Conclusion: Dark cones were identified as a possible first sign of retinal disease progression in adult-onset Stargardt disease as these are observed in retinal locations with otherwise normal appearance and outer retinal thickness. This corroborates a previous report where dark cones were proposed as a first sign of progression in childhood-onset Stargardt disease. This also supports the hypothesis that, in Stargardt disease, photoreceptor degeneration occurs before RPE cell death.</p

The proposed classification system not only enhances the understanding of bio-product value chains but also supports more efficient resource utilization and decision-making in bio-product development and policy planning. This value-centric methodology offers a strategic perspective for advancing sustainable practices in the bioeconomy. Moreover, to better undrestanding of complexity of organic chemicals, a chapter on organic chemicals also has been added to the repository. this provides a comprehensive overview of the classification system for organic chemicals, with a particular focus on bio-oil derivatives. It outlines the two-tiered framework employed to categorize these chemicals based on molecular weight, structural features, and functional groups. Each category is explored in detail, illustrating the specific chemical properties and potential applications of bio-oil derivatives. The chapter aims to enhance understanding of these complex compounds within the industrial applications of bio-oil, supporting further research and development in this dynamic field.</p

    Porous materials in natural and engineered environments are subject to morphological changes resulting from interacting chemical and physical processes. The complexity of coupled flow, transport, and chemical processes that occur on different temporal and spatial scales makes it difficult to predict the resulting porosity and permeability alterations. Delineating the controls of mineral precipitation reactions is particularly challenging because it requires the implementation of nucleation criteria and precipitation attributes. By conducting pore-scale simulations, we studied how the amount and stochastic distribution of crystallites, controlled by nucleation, affect the pore geometry and permeability in two-dimensional porous structures. The observed relationships between porosity and permeability show characteristics that differ from ones that are typically applicable in dissolving porous media because of the clogging effect. Additionally, we propose a stochastic framework that upscales the co-evolution of permeability and porosity across length scales. This framework enables precise communication of clogging behavior to continuum-scale simulations based on statistical probability distributions of permeability-porosity variations.     Dataset description: This dataset contains the information needed to replicate the results presented in the article “Optimizing recruitment in an online environmental PPGIS—is it worth the time and costs?”. The data were collected as part of a study investigating recruitment strategies for a large-scale online public participation GIS (PPGIS) platform in coastal areas of northern Norway. To investigate different recruitment strategies, we reviewed previous environmental PPGIS studies using random sampling and methods to increase response rates. We compared the attained results with our large-scale PPGIS in northern Norway, where we used both random and volunteer (traditional and social media) sampling. The dataset includes response rates for the 5% of the population (13 regions in northern Norway) recruited by mail to participate in an online PPGIS survey, response rates from volunteers recruited through traditional and social media, synthetic demographic data, and the code necessary for processing demographic data to obtain the results presented in the article. Original demographic data is not shared due to privacy legislation. We furthermore calculated time spent and costs used for recruiting both randomly sampled persons and volunteers.Article abstract: Public participation GIS surveys use both random and volunteer sampling to recruit people to participate in a self-administered mapping exercise online. In random sampling designs, the participation rate is known to be relatively low and biased to specific segments (e.g., middle-aged, educated men). Volunteer sampling provides the opportunity to reach a large crowd at reasonable costs but generally suffers from unknown sampling biases and lower data quality. The low participation rates and the quality of mapping question the validity and generalizability of the results, limiting their use as a democratic tool for enhancing participation in spatial planning. We therefore asked: How can we increase participation in online environmental PPGIS surveys? Is it worth the time and costs? We reviewed environmentally related online PPGIS surveys (n=26) and analyzed the sampling biases and recruitment strategies utilized in a large-scale online PPGIS platform in coastal areas of northern Norway via both random (16978 invited participants) and volunteer sampling. We found that the time, effort, and costs required to increase participation rates yielded meager results. We discuss the time and cost efficiency of different recruitment methods and the implications of participation levels despite the recruitment methods used
