The study examined comparative analysis of economics lecturers questioning allowed wait-time in four federal universities in the south-west Nigeria. The level of students’ response to questions in teaching-learning process depends on the time giving by the instructor for students to ruminate when faced with questions. The study adopted ex-post facto design of survey research type; forty (40) economics lecturers were observed, ten (10) lecturers each from the four university (University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos, and Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta) who are handling the compulsory courses either as junior or senior lecturers were selected through two-stage sampling techniques from four sampled universities. One validated observation instrument was used to collect data for the study. This is: University Economics Lecturer Questioning Effectiveness Observation Sheet (? = 0.75). Three research questions were raised and answered. The data obtained were analysed using percentage count of descriptive statistics, t-test and Anova at 0.05 level of significance. The result revealed that in a typical economics lecture, the lecturer allowed three to four minutes for group of students to ruminate on higher-order questions, one to two minutes each for lower-order question to individual and group of students, one minute for higher-order question to individual student and follow-up questions attract least wait time. There was a significant mean difference in questioning wait-time allowed, between junior (X = 10.67, Sd = 0.816) and senior (X = 13.33, Sd = 2.08) lecturers. (t (39) = 2.880, P = 0.024). There was no significant mean difference in wait-time allowed among the observed economics lecturers by institutions except in higher-order questions to group of students (F (3, 36) = 4.506, p < 0.05). The paper recommended that: teaching effectiveness is likely going to be enhanced when enough wait-time is given to students and hence allowed for enhanced academic standard in critical thinking

The insecurity in the Northeast Nigeria in the last decades has brought a lot of hardships on the people. The schools have experienced more closures either as a result of industrial action by teachers and political crisis, a recent example is the insurgence of Boko Haram sect in the Northeast geo-political zone, which has led to the close down of schools in the region. The political patronage results in politicization of knowledge especially in the absence of clear educational policies and goals. The insecurity has led to closure of schools, thus affect literacy level of people particularly children and adults. Therefore, this study examined causes of Boko Haram terrorism and its effects on adult education. It was recommended that there is need for the government to earmark more fund to security aimed at combating the Boko-Haram insurgency. There is need to prevent re-occurrence of recent insurgency by ensuring a rational national planning and mass job or employment provision by the government to the youth

Children experiencing twice exceptionality exhibit negative classroom behaviours which could be corrected as shown by literature with little consideration to psychological variables of such behaviours in Schools in Oyo State. The study adopted a survey research design of the ex-post facto type. One thousand one hundred and thirteen twice exceptional pupils were purposively selected from 33 public primary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. Instruments used were: Slosson Intelligence Scale (r=0.82); Pupil Rating Scale (r=0.78); Anxiety Scale (r=0.72); Depression Scale (r=0.76); Loneliness Scale (r=0.72); Self-esteem Scale (r=0.72) and Negative Classroom Behaviour Questionnaire (r=0.89). Three research questions were raised and answered. Data were analysed using path analysis and multiple regressions. Self-esteem specifically had the greatest explanatory power (?=.146, t=4.438, p<0.05), followed by loneliness (?=.129, t=4.647, p<0.05), anxiety (?=.119, t=3.492, p<0.05), depression (?=.102, t=2.953, p<0.05). Consequently, the model is considered fit and tenable. Therefore, academic and behavioural intervention strategies should be promoted for the children to benefit maximally from

The need for workers’ training has increased because of technological advancement. In-service training enhances the performance of workers and engenders workers on-the-job-success. Skill acquisition and on-the-job-success remain at very low level for females. Also, there is little literature on in-service training and on-the-job-success. This study examined the extent to which the demographics (Age, Marital Status, Educational Qualification, Cadre and Socio-economic Status) influenced on-the-job-success of female civil servants after in-service training programme. The population for the study was all female civil servants on Ogun and Oyo states. Survey design was adopted and purposive sampling procedure was used to select 1,033 female civil servants that participated in in-service training. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression at p ? 0.05 significance level. Educational qualification (? = -.116, t (1026) = -3.10, p < 0.05), Socio-economic Status (? = 0.20, t (1026) = 4.95, p < 0.05) and Marital Status (?=-0.073, t=(1026)=0.035, p<0.05) correlated significantly with on-the-job-success of the female civil servants, while Age ( ? = -0.026, t (1026) = 0.069, p > 0.05), and Cadre (?=-0.035, t (1026) = 0.365, p>0.05) did not. Single women with low socio-economic status and low educational qualification performed better on their job. The study recommended that government should endeavour to sustain policies that can encourage younger and married women in civil service to participate in in-service training and engender increase their on-the-job success

The study assessed the challenges of capacity building and employee performance, while it also examined the effect of training on performance of employees and determined the extent to which employee’s job performance was influenced by leadership style in selected Universities of Technology, in Southwestern, Nigeria. The research employed a Correlation Design, which was due to the nature of the research as it found out relationship that exists between the dependent variable (employee’s job performance) and the independent variable (Capacity building in organizations).Primary data were sourced through administration of questionnaire to obtain data from the respondents in four universities of technology in Southwestern Nigeria, namely: Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH), Bells University of Science and Technology, Ota and Wesley University of Technology, Ondo (WUSTO). Stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting three hundred (300) respondents, (100, 100, 50, 50) respectively from the universities using management, senior and junior staff for stratification. The data collected were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics at 0.05 level of significance. The independent t-test result revealed that the null hypothesis (Ho)   which said that there was no challenges facing capacity building on employees’ performance was rejected and the alternate hypothesis (H1) was accepted, which implied that the selected institutions faced challenges on attempt to facilitate and enhanced employees’ capacity building. The study also revealed that training and leadership style had positive effect on employees’ job performance in the institutions. In conclusion, Poor organisational decisions on the part of the management/leadership may result in wasted and ineffective capacity-building programmes. The study recommended that capacity building must be done periodically so as to effectively capture every area where training is necessary and the institutions should ensure staff oriented organizational structure, policies and frameworks of interpersonal relationship within the universities

This study examined teacher quality and work environment as predictors of academic performance of senior secondary school students’ in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The study adopted the ex-post facto research design. 100 teachers (representing 21% of the teacher population) were randomly selected from twelve (12) public secondary schools for the study. Student population consists of all the 480 SSS3 students who sat for the May/June WAEC examination during the 2018/2019 academic session. A researcher self-developed questionnaire tagged: ‘Teacher Quality, Work Environment and Academic Performance Questionnaire (TQWEAPQ) was used as the study instrument. Pearson product moment correlation was used for answering research questions 1-4 and regression analysis was used for research questions 5 and 6 at .05 level of significance. The findings indicated that teacher qualification(r=0.195; p<.05), experience(r=0.54; p<.05), pedagogical skills(r=0.813; p<.05) and availability of instructional/educational materials (r=0.322; p<.05) positively related to secondary school students’ academic performance. It was also revealed that about 52% of the variance in secondary school students’ academic performance was accounted for by the linear combination of the independent variables (teacher qualification, experience, pedagogical skills, availability of instructional materials and educational materials). Out of the five variables examined, four were found to be significant and strongly determined secondary school students’ academic performance, while educational facilities’ availability was although positive but not significant enough to determine secondary school students’ academic performance. It was recommended that teachers without teaching qualification should be granted opportunity for in-service training in education to acquire adequate method of passing instruction to students. Government should give immediate recognition to teaching as a profession. This would raise the quality of people coming into the profession
