The impact of mobile technology across various domains cannot be overemphasized. Mobile technology isrevolutionizing the education sector, as students can now access the classroom and diverse learning resourcesfrom the comfort of their home using mobile phones. However, there is still a lot of gaps in the way mobile phonescan be leveraged on to learn practical-based courses that require hands-on or laboratory work. This is becausemobile phones are often constrained by the processor capability, small screen size and keypad. In this study, theconcept of bit-sized learning was explored to support how practical-based learning can be driven on mobilephones. Consequently, an experiment/intervention was set up for 30 days. Results from the experiment show thatstudents who used the full intervention improved in their learning with an average score of 66.67% with a standarddeviation of 11.14. Those who didn’t use or partially used the intervention had an average score of 51.18% withstandard deviation of 15.63. Post experiment analysis was further carried out to understand users’ experience withthe use of mobile phone for practical-based learning. Results from this analysis show that mobile phone providesa platform for accessibility and flexibility in learning of a practical based course such as programming

This study examines the issue of quality in rural primary schools in Nigeria. Quality is linked to both individual and national development and thus necessary to consider an approach that supports the practice of quality assurance in a holistic rather than individualistic oriented method. This entails a shift to a more pragmatic approach that encourages the involvement of everybody in the drive towards ensuring quality in Nigerian rural primary schools. The role of teachers in ensuring quality, the problems of achieving, and the strategies for improving and sustaining quality  in rural primary schools in Nigeria are discussed. The paper concludes that rural primary schools face many challenges that are not so prominent in urban primary schools such as dilapidated buildings, inadequate educational resources and inadequate teachers among others. It is thus recommended that governments should allocate enough funds to rural primary schools, motivate rural primary school teachers and mandate them to attend training workshops and conferences to improve their teaching skills and ensure effective monitoring and quality control  to enhance and sustain quality in Nigerian rural primary schools

This study examined the factors that affected the performance of mothers in managerial positions in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design, while the population consisted of 120 female managers out of which 48 were sampled. Research instrument titled “Factors Affecting Performance of Mothers in Managerial Positions Questionnaire” was administered on the samples. The instrument was content, construct and face validated, while its reliability coefficient was established through the test-retest method. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to analyze the posited hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that network affiliation and previous experience were significant factors that affected the performance of mothers in managerial positions. There was no significant relationship between motivation and goals and performance of mothers in managerial positions (r =0.234; P>0.05). The study further found that there was no significant relationship between level of education and performance of mothers in managerial positions in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State (r =0.250; P > 0.05). Additionally, there was a significant relationship between network affiliation and women managers’ performance (r =0.403;P<0.05).Finally, there was a significant relationship between previous experience of mothers in managerial positions and their job performance (r =0.431;P<0.05). Based on  the above findings, the study recommended that mothers in managerial positions that do not have   affiliate with any network should be encouraged to do so, in order to enhance their performance. Also, yet to be female managers should be encouraged to take their jobs and duty posts serious, so that requisite and important experiences can be gathered by them  while on the jo

Abstract The study investigated the extent to which resource provision, resource utilistion, mathematical ability, learning environment and use of instructional materials could predict achievement in undergraduate practical geography courses.  It used 184 final year geography undergraduates (112 males and 72 females) drawn from three federal universities and a state university.  Data collection involved the use of seven valid and reliable instruments, while multiple regression (backward solution) was employed in data analysis.  The results indicated that 89.3% of students’ variability in achievement in undergraduate practical geography could be attributed to a linear combination of variables such as resources provision and utilization, mathematical ability and learning environment.  Mathematical ability, use of instructional materials, gender and learning environment were significant contributors to the prediction.  The result raises crucial issues for curriculum development, instructional techniques and evaluation in undergraduate practical geography courses. It concluded that achievement in the courses can be better enhanced if some issues are given utmost consideration as a way of boosting the teaching and evaluation of these courses

This is a survey study that investigated the factors that determine adolescents’ academic achievement. A total of 300 senior secondary school students randomly selected from different secondary schools were used as samples for the study.                 The AP5FI (Academic Performance 5-Factor Inventory) by Aremu (2002) was used to collect data for the study. The instrument has a coefficient value of 0.79 (Aremu and Sokan, 2002). The data collected with the instrument was analyzed using multiple regression analysis.                 Two research questions were raised and tested in the study. The result of data analysis showed that the combined effect of the five independent variables on students’ academic achievement was statistically significant (F=9.57, P<0.05). The result also showed that the causations resident in child and family made the most significant contribution to students’ academic achievement (P<0.05) while the other independent variables - school, society and government - did not contribute significantly (P<0.05).            Recommendations were made to affect the poor academic performance in secondary school. The implication of the findings of this study is that stakeholders in the educational system should present education in a light that would motivate the child. Parents and guardians should provide an academically stimulating environment for the children at home in order to enhance their academic performance

Women reproductive health behaviour (RHB) has generated a lot of interest from researchers across many disciplines because of complications on women health generally. Previous studies on women’s RHB had focused on various categories of women and teenagers leading to a gap in literature on women in the tertiary institutions. This study, therefore, examined the extent to which cultural norms/religious belief, peer influence and mass media exposure influenced the RHB of female lecturers in tertiary institutions in South western Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted. The purposive sampling technique was used to 540 academic workers from thirteen tertiary institutions in South western Nigeria. Two instruments were used: RHB Scale (r=0.81) and RHB Determinants Scale with sub-scales, cultural/religious belief (r=0.83), mass media (r=0.75), and peer influence (r=0.71). Three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance to determine the RHB of female workers. Pearson product moment correlation and content analysis was used to analyse data collected through the questionnaire form the respondents. Seventy-five percent of respondents exhibited good RHB. Their significant strength of relationships with RHB was ranked: religious/cultural belief (r=0. .066); mass media exposure (r=0.070), and peer influence (r=-0.602). Mass media exposure, cultural norms/religious belief and peer influence strongly predicted reproductive health behavior of female lecturers in sampled tertiary institutions. Improvement in the reproductive health behaviour among tertiary institutions female lectures calls for government   to encourage and motivate women having two or more children to adopt family planning through mass media messages

Ensuring that employees work with their greatest potential to enhance productivity and efficiency are inhibited and restricted by physical and psychological problems. These problems come in the form of depression, sickness, disability, stress, burnout, absenteeism, and presenteeism. Work organisations can reduce or eliminate these problems through employee’s assistance programme (EAP). EAP typically provides screening, assessment, brief intervention, referrals to other services, and case managements with longitudinal follow up for these problems. This paper looked at the historical evolution of EAPs, functions of EAPs, the need for the establishment of EAPs in the workplace and the main types of EAPs which are classified based on the users, namely: individual, managerial/supervisory, organisational and administrative services. The paper also looked at the roles of EAPs to individual, managers and the organization. The paper established that EAP practitioners provide consulting services to managers and supervisors regarding employee performance and serve as behavioural consultants to corporate leaders when unexpected events occur. It helps employees to obtain help with problems that can/are affecting work, family and their well-being. Early uses of EAPs contributed to the prevention of serious problems for the individual employee, family and employer. Finally, positive organizational culture, improved morals, attraction of top talents, increased job commitment and increased job satisfaction are guaranteed when EAPs are efficiently and effectively utilised. It is recommended that the identification, integrating EAPs will enhance employees and workplace effectiveness in becoming vital tool for maintaining and improving worker health and productivity, retaining valued employees, and returning employees to work after illness or injuries. Furthermore, the establishment of EAPs will confer the following benefits to the organisation: productive employees, low rate of absenteeism, better job climates and organisational morale, less inter-group conflicts
