Abstract Speech emotion recognition (SER) systems enable machines to understand human emotions from speech. Due to its rising popularity, it is also interesting to scholars everywhere. Researchers have explored many different techniques and methodologies to detect emotions from speech. Different machine learning approaches have been investigated since machine learning (ML) has emerged as one of the most promising methodologies. However, knowing which feature combination gives a better result has been one major challenge of speech recognition systems, as the features selected affect the classification result. Therefore, a general Random forest-based emotion detection system has been built in this study effort to categorize emotions based on the provided features. The features are selected based on the class-specific best feature for each emotion class and are identified based on the f1 measure. The selected characteristics are then combined, applying the contemporary smart ensemble approaches. Mfcc, Chroma, and Melspectogram are the features under study, and Mfcc appeared to be the best of the three case studies with an accuracy of 63% higher than other features. The three features were then Ensembled using a CatBoost algorithm which gave an accuracy of 71.62%. The result indicates that Mfcc performs better than other features listed in the study. Also, the ensemble classification result performed superior to the classifiers mentioned in the literature.   &nbsp

    Get PDF
The SMS-based authentication medium for financial transaction poses vulnerability challenges on its transmission medium due to weak authentication medium. These security challenges are not limited to various attack mechanisms such as Man in the middle (MITM), replay among others on the transit. Also, the transmission channel of Short Message Service (SMS) via device could be stolen and SMS been transmitted could equally be vulnerable to attacks. Hence, this study develops an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) Authentication Technique (IAT), to redirect the focus of financial authentication medium to both userand device authentication medium, where both the user and device will be authenticated. Therefore, the study captures the two user authentication mechanisms, in addition to device identity authentication to ensure a secured communication and any  attempt of illegitimate processes will be aborte

Extending the Lifetime of a Wireless Sensor Network Using Fuzzy-Chinese Remainder Theorem

    Get PDF
Improvements in wireless communication and hardware miniaturization have fostered increased utilization of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) in hazardous, low-human presence environments. Unfortunately, energy constraints prevented application of other adhoc networks’ protocols to improving WSN nodes, which are designed to operate continuously on a single charge, constantly communicate with the network Base Station (BS) and forward data. This makes battery life crucial. Existing WSN algorithms do not consider battery charge levels, which determine affordable data packet sizes. Therefore, insufficient battery charge levels poses a significant constraint to the general performance of the WSN. Hence, to prolong battery life, this studyimplemented data-centric Fuzzy Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT) to save energy and used Fuzzy logic for WSN data collection, node location, and battery charge monitoring with Python. Results show that the Fuzzy-  CRT algorithm extended WSN battery life, reduced the number of dead nodes by 40% over 8000 rounds, and thus, surpassed Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) and CRT-LEACH algorithms in overall performance. Data-centric Fuzzy-CRT is therefore recommended for prolonged WSN battery life, improved network service, extended data collection and packet transfer durations
