Seeing through the haze: The Cassini/Huygens challenge of mapping Titan's surface

    No full text
International audienceLike Venus, Titan is one of the toughest bodies in the Solar System to map due to its very thick atmosphere. Only a very limited number of wavelengths can see though the haze and reveal its surface. In this talk, we will start from our very limited knowledge from Pionner/Voyager era, that show how little we knew about Titan's surface prior to Huygens landing. Then we will go though the Cassini instruments (VIMS, ISS, RADAR, ...) that allowed us to build a complete coverage of this moon after 13 years of mission. Finally we will present the latest geological maps that are derived from these datasets which are an essential key for the future exploration of Titan

TinyML as a Service on Multi-Tenant Microcontrollers

    No full text
International audienceTiny Machine Learning (TinyML) allows the execution of small machine learning models on low-power devices like microcontrollers. TinyML-as-a-Service (TinyMLaaS) is an architecture to make the usage of TinyML models easier by having a platform that optimizes and compiles machine learning models according to the constraints of target devices, and then deploys the model code on microcontrollers. Within the Cloud-to-IoT continuum, both TinyML and multi-tenant microcontrollers focus on empowering microcontrollers and enabling on-device computing. Multi-tenant microcontrollers are designed to securely execute codes from mutually distrusting actors through the usage of lightweight software containerization solutions, like WebAssembly. In this paper, we propose to integrate TinyMLaaS with multi-tenant microcontrollers by using WebAssembly-based containerization, and we implement a proof-of-concept of the TinyMLaaS architecture based on We-bAssembly Micro Runtime (WAMR) and RIOT-ML. In the second part of the paper, to improve the usage of containerized TinyML on microcontrollers, we propose CS4WAMR, a framework to enhance WAMR usage by enabling running simultaneously multiple instances of WAMR to allow better permission and memory consumption control

Impact of Digital School-Based Personalized High-Intensity Interval Training on Cardiorespiratory Fitness in French Adolescents: The METs-Up Programme

    No full text
International audienceThe aim of this study was to examine the impact of a short school‐based personalized interval training program (METs‐Up) using a smartphone application on cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in French adolescents. Secondary objective was to assess the effects of the program on body mass index (BMI). A total of 9021 adolescents (4428 boys and 4593 girls, age range: 10–14 years) were randomized to the experimental group (EXP) (n = 5845) or the control group (CON) (n = 3176). The EXP performed a personalized high‐intensity interval training (HIIT) program ranging (95.5 to 102.5% dynamic maximal aerobic speed, MAS) integrated into physical education (PE) lessons over 6 weeks. HIIT consisted of approximately two 15‐min sessions per week of high‐intensity, intermittent‐running exercises. The CON group followed conventional PE lessons. CRF (20‐m Shuttle Run Test) and BMI were measured at baseline and after 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, both groups showed significant improvements in CRF compared to baseline value (p < 0.05). The increase in the EXP group (13.7% in laps completed) was significantly higher than in the CON group (4.8%) (p < 0.05). Additionally, a significant decrease in BMI was observed in the EXP (−0.8%), whereas no significant change was observed in the CON group. A short school‐based personalized METs‐Up HIIT program, utilizing an innovative smartphone application, significantly improved CRF in French adolescents, addressing the decline in CRF levels among youth

Detecting Notational Errors in Digital Music Scores

    No full text
International audienceMusic scores are used to precisely store music pieces for transmission and preservation. To represent and manipulate these complex objects, various formats have been tailored for different use cases. While music notation follows specific rules, digital formats usually enforce them leniently. Hence, digital music scores widely vary in quality, due to software and format specificity, conversion issues, and dubious user inputs. Problems range from minor engraving discrepancies to major notation mistakes. Yet, data quality is a major issue when dealing with musical information extraction and retrieval. We present an automated approach to detect notational errors, aiming at precisely localizing defects in scores. We identify two types of errors: i) rhythm/time inconsistencies in the encoding of individual musical elements, and ii) contextual errors, i.e. notation mistakes that break commonly accepted musical rules. We implement the latter using a modular state machine that can be easily extended to include rules representing the usual conventions from the common Western music notation. Finally, we apply this error-detection method to the piano score dataset ASAP. We highlight that around 40% of the scores contain at least one notational error, and manually fix multiple of them to enhance the dataset's quality

Boiling phenomena analysis using machine learning

    No full text
International audienceBoiling heat transfer under transient heat input is a phenomenon of major interest for the safety of nuclear research reactors. We present an analysis of boiling dynamics in such conditions using machine learning algorithm trained on high speed videos data. The objective of this study is to gather insights on the complex physics happening during transient heat input. To this end, we use dimensionality reduction techniques and dynamical system discovery to model the dynamics using Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE). This procedure yields analytical models describing the flow boiling data. Theses models are then analysed around the transition between boiling regimes
