The Implications of Ethics for Museums
No full textInternational audienceSince May 2023, the European research project ‘Museums and Industry: Long History of Collaborations’ (MaILHoC) has examined the ways in which industry has shaped (and still influences) the work of science museums and centres. Drawing on its research into the corporate patronage of STM museums and its implications on museum practice and ethics, the MaILHoC team has designed an Ethics Workshop meant to help STM professionals develop their capacity to engage with the ethical dilemmas arising from the wide range of social, cultural, political and practical issues they encounter on the job. The workshop seeks to provide practitioners with a space for reflection, discussion and the development of responses to these ethical dilemmas. In this interactive session, attendees will be given the opportunity to experiment the workshop first-hand by using an ethics scenario crafted for the occasion. Divided into small working groups, they will work through each step of the workshop discussing the ethical dilemmas proposed in the scenario. The session will end with an open discussion on their experience of the workshop and its past implementation. Concluding remarks will be provided by MaILHoC’s lead investigator, Scott Anthony, who will introduce the audience to other museum-relevant resources from MaILHoC

Développement professionnel et développement de l'activité
No full textThe thesis, in education and training sciences, aims to establish a concept of professional development based on the dialectical motor of activity development. To this end, it refutes the assumptions that reduce professional development solely to the adaptation of workers through their learning, their reflexivity, and the development of their professional skills to cope with a reality that is then seen as external to inexorable and ungovernable changes. In other words, professional development is very often conceived as personal, solipsistic and without any intrinsic link to professional activity.However, the current transformations in ‘works’ place strong demands on professional training in terms of how it contributes to the transformative movements in jobs, trades, work and professions. This is the social aim of the thesis. It is empirically based on five collaborative research projects, conducted using an intervention-research methodology, with actors from different sectors of education and vocational training: 1) holding the emerging position of coordinator within the framework of a territorialised education policy; 2) entering the secondary teaching profession through initial continuing vocational training; 3) Appropriate reform by implementing ‘personalised support’ measures with educational teams and students. 4) Assume and fulfil the role of deputy headteacher in an agricultural secondary school on this occasion. 5) Form a collective of school teachers within a trade union framework to develop the profession based on an analysis of actual work. The theoretical framework combines three conceptual systems: a first professional system articulates the concepts of work, employment, occupation and profession; a second system of activity extends the theoretical proposals of Léontiev, Clot, Engeström and Dujarier in cultural depth; and a third theoretical system advances, within the historical dialectical paradigm, a conception of the combined developments of the professional and the activity based on the motor skills of the contradictions that constitute its dynamics. Eleven texts by the author, which mark the milestones of these projects, are the subject of a second analysis conducted using these theoretical proposals. The analysis characterises the differences in the transformations of activity among the 13 case studies from these projects and shows variations in the dynamics of the dialectical contradictions between the functioning and/or possible developments of the activity. These results are interpreted using additional resources drawn from the registers of dialectical logic developed by Sève, the dialogism of activities proposed by Lorino, and organisational action according to Maggi and Terssac. These interpretations thus make it possible to understand the possible combinations between professional development and activity development processes. They enrich our understanding of professional development from the perspective of transformations in activity (investigated through the evolution of its dialectical contradictions) grappling with the historical, socio-cultural constructs of the professional system (work, trade, employment and profession). This function of the creative contributions of activity to these cultural constructs makes them enriched resources available to the collective for professional activities. Professional development is no longer only ‘at the service of the transformations of professions’ but asserts itself as emancipatory in that it stems from an active deliberation of the ‘politics’ of activity. These results invite us to rethink, in the sciences of education and training, a historical-socio-cultural constructivism of professional development based on the appropriation of professional training, in the sense of the process of training professions through activity. The consequences and challenges of this conception for the engineering of professional training are discussed.La thèse promue, en sciences de l'éducation et de la formation, vise à fonder une conception du développement professionnel sur la motricité dialectique du développement de l'activité. Pour cela, elle réfute les allant-de-soi qui réduisent les développements professionnels aux seules adaptations des travailleur·se·s, par leurs seuls apprentissages, leur seule réflexivité, le seul développement de leurs compétences professionnelles pour faire face à une réalité regardée, alors, comme externe, aux évolutions inexorables et ingourvernables. Dit autrement le développement professionnel est très souvent conçu comme personnel, solipsiste et sans lien intrinsèque avec l'activité professionnelle.Pourtant, l'actualité des transformations des "travails" sollicite fortement la formation professionnelle quant à la conception de ses contributions aux mouvements transformateurs des emplois, métiers, travails et professions. C'est la visée sociale de la thèse. Celle-ci se fonde empiriquement sur cinq chantiers de recherche collaborative, conduits selon une méthodologie d'intervention-recherche, avec des acteurs de différents secteurs de l'éducation et de la formation professionnelle : 1) tenir la fonction émergente de coordonnateur dans le cadre d'une politique éducative territorialisée ; 2) entrer dans le métier de l'enseignement secondaire au moyen d'une formation professionnelle continue initiale ; 3) approprier une réforme par la mise en œuvre de dispositifs “d'accompagnement personnalisé” avec des équipes éducatives et les élèves, 4) prendre et tenir son rôle de directeur-adjoint en lycée d'enseignement agricole à cette occasion ; 5) se constituer en collectif de professeurs des écoles dans un cadre syndical pour conduire un développement du métier à partir de la mise sous analyse du travail réel. Le cadre théorique combine trois systèmes conceptuels : un premier système professionnel articule les concepts de travail, emploi, métier, profession ; un second système de l'activité prolonge en épaisseur culturelle les propositions théoriques de l'activité de Léontiev, Clot, Engeström et Dujarier ; et un troisième système théorique avance, dans le paradigme dialectique historique, une conception des développements conjugués du professionnel et de l'activité fondée sur la motricité des contradictions qui en constituent la dynamique. Onze textes de l'auteur, qui jalonnent ces chantiers, font l’objet d’une analyse seconde conduite au moyen de ces propositions théoriques. L’analyse caractérise des différences de transformations de l'activité parmi les 13 cas d'étude issus de ces chantiers, et montre des variations de motricités des contradictions dialectiques entre les fonctionnements et/ou des développements possibles de l'activité. Ces résultats sont interprétés grâce à des ressources complémentaires issues des registres de la logique dialectique développée par Sève, de la dialogie des activités proposée par Lorino et de l'agir organisationnel selon Maggi et Terssac. Ces interprétations rendent ainsi intelligibles les conjugaisons possibles entre des processus de développement professionnel et de développement de l'activité. Elles enrichissent la compréhension du développement professionnel sous l’angle de transformations de l'activité (investiguées par les devenirs de ses contradictions dialectiques) aux prises avec les construits historico-socio-culturels du système professionnel (travail, métier, emploi et profession). Cette fonction des contributions créatrices de l’activité à ces construits culturels en fait des ressources enrichies à la disposition collective des activités professionnelles. Le développement professionnel n’est plus seulement "au service des transformations des professions" mais s'affirme émancipateur en ce qu'il est issu d’une délibération en acte du "politique" de l'activité. Ces résultats invitent à repenser, en sciences de l'éducation et de la formation, un constructivisme historico-socio-culturel du développement professionnel fondé sur l'appropriation de la formation professionnelle, au sens du processus de la formation des professions par l'activité. Accelerating cell topology optimisation by leveraging similarity in the parametric input space
No full textInternational audienceThe design of high-resolution topology-optimised (TO) structures is important for many industrialand medical applications because of their better mechanical performance underdifferent load conditions. Traditional density-based TO methods, like the Solid Isotropic Materialwith Penalisation (SIMP) method, can produce detailed designs but are very computationallyexpensive, especially for fine meshes. While surrogate models using neural networks can speedup the process, they often lack generality and can create discontinuities, making them lesseffective for solving new problems.This study addresses these issues by introducing a method to speed up cell-level TO withina 2-Level framework, where large structures are built by combining optimised square cells.A data-driven instance-based model provides a better starting point for the standard SIMPbasedoptimiser, placing it closer to a local minimum and reducing computation time. To avoidthe generality problems of other methods, the instance-based model uses a dataset expandedthrough two strategies: context-based data creation, which generates specific samples for theproblem, and data augmentation, which increases dataset size without extra computation.Two similarity metrics, vector-based and energy-based, are used to measure how close theinput parameters are. Both metrics are effective, but the energy-based metric is expected towork better in 3D cases, where higher-dimensional input spaces make other approaches less reliable.This methodology addresses important challenges associated with existing instance-basedmodels, enhancing the speed and applicability of high-resolution TO

Innover en viticulture : les trajectoires de changement de pratiques des domaines viticoles en Bourgogne
No full textInternational audienceDans un contexte d’adaptation au changement climatique et de transition agroécologique, cette communication analyse les changements de pratiques en matière de gestion de la matière organique des sols dans la viticulture bourguignonne. S’appuyant sur une enquête par entretiens semi-directifs menée auprès de 30 viticulteurs de Bourgogne, elle interroge les facteurs individuels, techniques, économiques et sociaux influençant l’innovation. L’étude montre que l’appartenance à des réseaux professionnels, la trajectoire des exploitants/exploitation, le prestige des appellations, les circuits de commercialisation ou la politique des coopératives jouent un rôle déterminant. Les connaissances agronomiques, parfois lacunaires, conditionnent également les capacités d’innovation, tout comme les possibilités d’investissement ou d’accès à des équipements adaptés. En croisant caractéristiques des exploitants/exploitations, pratiques culturales et dynamiques collectives, cette recherche interdisciplinaire (projet MOCCA), donne à voir des configurations de trajectoires de viticulteurs, variables selon leur degré d’engagement dans les transitions agroécologiques, et identifie les freins et leviers aux apprentissages en cours
