Comparison of two fully-passive multimodal damping techniques: multi-branch shunts and interconnected piezoelectric networks
No full textInternational audienceMulti-branch resonant piezoelectric shunt damping is an efficient method for mitigating amplitude of multiple mechanical resonances. In this approach, one or several piezoelectric patches are connected to an electrical circuit designed to control several specific modes, enabling tailored management of broadband structural damping. However, the introduction of capacitors into the multi-branch shunts reduces the overall performance of the circuit. To overcome this limitation, interconnected piezoelectric networks have been proposed in the literature. This solution enhances performance by enabling each piezoelectric patch to contribute to the total coupling factor for each vibration mode. Based on recent studies, a method is introduced to define interconnected piezoelectric networks using a matrix formulation that optimally represents the multi-input multioutput behavior of the network, satisfying the optimal impedance equations. After numerical implementations on a benchmark blade structure, both techniques are compared by evaluating the fully interconnected optimal network with respect to the multi-branch shunts. Experimental results are also proposed to validate the numerical models and the subsequent comparison of performances between the two multimodal techniques

Data-Driven Models for Alert Management in Infrastructure Monitoring Within Their Environment

The challenge arises from the extensive scale of these infrastructures, the heterogeneity and complexity of the data sources, and the imperative for real-time responsiveness. To address these challenges, we propose data-driven methodologies that demonstrate the feasibility of such systems. Specifically, we examine two complementary case studies: 1) the detection of sinkholes in railway networks and 2) the development of a metamodel for seismic risk assessment in dam infrastructure. These case studies illustrate the pivotal role of artificial intelligence and predictive analytics in enhancing alert systems and facilitating proactive risk management. In this article, we study La Revue dessinée, which walks a narrow path between the world of traditional scientific knowledge popularization and the awareness of the political challenges of science and technology in society.Depuis plus de dix ans, La Revue dessinée se positionne comme un laboratoire innovant de vulgarisation des savoirs, alliant puissance narrative du dessin et enjeux sociotechniques. Elle explore des sujets d’actualité par le prisme d’enquêtes, de reportages et d’analyses critiques, visant à démocratiser des débats souvent réservés aux experts. À travers son approche de la vulgarisation, elle invite son lectorat à s’emparer des savoirs, en les reliant à des controverses sociales, politiques et environnementales. Elle se distingue par une volonté d’éducation populaire, réussissant à traiter des savoirs complexes de manière accessible.
