論文(Article)The study of the organism’s functions in paddy ecosystems can have a variety of benefits, including the application of ecosystem service to rice cultivation and the conservation of biodiversity. Filamentous algae are common in rice paddy fields. It affects adversely the growth of rice due to suppressing water temperature and reducing nutrients available to the rice plants. On the other hand, they may also affect other organisms through the modification of habitat structure. In this study, we investigated the occurrence of arthropods inhabiting the rice paddy fields. Investigation plots were established in an experimental rice paddy field of the faculty of agriculture Yamagata University from June to August 2020. All arthropods were collected in these plots every 2 weeks. The dry weight of the filamentous algae and the number of individuals of arthropods attached to them were recorded. The abundance of filamentous algae and arthropods peaked, respectively, in mid-July and in late July, and both disappeared by late August. Seasonal changes of each arthropod group were similar except for chironomids. We suggested that the filamentous algae create a complexity of physical structure in the waterlogged areas of the paddy fields and are used as a habitat and food resource by a variety of arthropods
