: Projeto GENgiBRe.

    No full text
Field research and its methodology are at the heart of the GENgiBRe project's knowledge construction and socialisation objectives. The Methodological Guide therefore constitutes an essential outcome of our project, which reflects our "research-action" approach and our feminist epistemology. The development of this Guide was based on important instruments already proven in the field of feminism and agroecology, such as the Sociobiodiversity Map, the River of Life, the Feminist Social Cartography and the Body-Territory, which were adjusted for the objectives of our project and completed by new instruments. Through this publication, we wish to continue this collective construction, making our Methodological Guide available to communities of researchers with converging interests.

    No full text

Experimental Evidence That AI-Managed Workers Tolerate Lower Pay Without Demotivation

    No full text
National audienceExperimental evidence on worker responses to AI management remains mixed, partly due to limitations in experimental fidelity. We address these limitations with a customized workplace in the Minecraft platform, enabling high-resolution behavioral tracking of autonomous task execution, and ensuring that participants approach the task with well-formed expectations about their own competence. Workers (N = 382) completed repeated production tasks under either human, AI, or hybrid management. An AI manager trained on humandefined evaluation principles systematically assigned lower performance ratings and reduced wages by 40%, without adverse effects on worker motivation and sense of fairness. These effects were driven by a muted emotional response to AI evaluation, compared to evaluation by a human. The very features that make AI appear impartial may also facilitate silent exploitation, by suppressing the social reactions that normally constrain extractive practices in human-managed work

Negotiating the Peacebuilding Agenda: Social Problems and Post-Conflict Policymaking

    No full text
International audienceThis paper examines the inclusion and exclusion of policy issues in the peacebuilding agenda through a constructivist lens, providing a framework for analysing how social problems are ‘framed’ and ‘owned’ in post-conflict settings. It argues that policy issues become part of the agenda through the deliberate mobilization of a variety of both international and domestic actors and institutions over time. Empirically, the framework is applied to land policy in Côte d’Ivoire, a case that illustrates the fluid relationship between peacebuilding and development. The analysis reveals how land policy moved from being central to post-war reconstruction to being reframed within development and security paradigms, reflecting shifting donor priorities and domestic politics. These findings highlight the broader implications of peacebuilding as a contextually embedded, iterative process that reconfigures existing policy sectors. By focusing on the interplay between global and local dynamics of policymaking, this research contributes to a better understanding of the temporal and political mechanisms that shape peacebuilding interventions

“Pensar a solas duele”.

    No full text
International audienceThe International Group of Doctoral Students working on and from Central America (DOCAX) emerged in 2022 with the aim of creating a space for support and dialogue with students from different doctoral programmes who carry out research in the region. This article aims to formalise the experience we have had as a group, using materials such as notes, photographs, online and in-person meetings, presentations at various events, and a questionnaire that was applied to members in July 2024. Through these, we describe the founding story and characteristics of DOCAX. At the same time, we also wish to highlight the feelings of loneliness and isolation that we suffered during our doctoral programmes, as well as the difficulties, risks and situations of violence that we faced while doing research in Central America. For these reasons we identify with the phrase “thinking alone hurts” from the poem “Estudio con algo de tedio” by Roque Dalton. From this starting point and through the DOCAX group, we have attempted to question the ways in which research is tainted by individualism, as well as the neglect we have often suffered from academic institutions. In this sense, we highlight peer support, cathartic spaces, affective approaches, as well as interdisciplinary exchange, critical reflection about ways to think about or imagine the region, and strategies of prevention and care in our research.

    No full text

Propaganda, Diplomacy and Ideological Crisis: Sonic Cultures and Italian Fascism During the Early 1940s

    No full text
International audienceItalian participation in the WWII was not a simple subordination to Hitler’s imperialism. For the fascists, the war was a means to strengthen the autonomy and prestige of the regime following the military successes in Ethiopia (1935-6) and Albania (1939). Early setbacks in Greece and North Africa, however, dashed fascist hopes for a successful ‘parallel war’ fought independently from the Nazis. As the military endeavours failed, culture took an increased centrality as a means of affirming Italian prestige within the Axis’ new order. After the famous economic and technological ‘battles’ of the 1920s and 1930s – for ‘grain’, for ‘the lira’, for ‘the land’, for ‘births’ – the fascist regime undertook a final battle in the field of culture. According to the Minister Giuseppe Bottai, in wartime Europe, Italy was the only and best guardian of civilisation and culture. Since the end of the 1930s, the cultural resistance of Italian fascism was increasingly practiced both inside the nation, with songs recorded on discs, and across its borders, by means of radio broadcasts designed for allied countries such as Hungary and Romania. Through sonic recordings and broadcast, the thwarted Italian Empire continued to exist at least on a symbolic level and to revendicate its Lebensraum in the Mediterrenean while maintaining a dialectic of resistance and alliance with Nazi Germany. The complex nexus between propaganda, cultural diplomacy and cultural resistance, increasingly foregrounded in recent historiography, have been scarcely investigated by musicologists and sound scholars alike. By focusing on a set of musical and archival sources, this paper aims to understand the role of sounds in shaping this process of national crisis, imperialist ambitions and ideological bankruptcy, thus sheding new light on a relatively unknown chapter of Italian fascist culture
