Research results of the La Tène culture cemetery at Zvonimirovo – Veliko polje in 2019
Pronađeni grobovi, na osnovi tipoloških karakteristika pronađenih nalaza, datiraju se u LT C2 stupanj (Mokronog IIb).The continuation of the rescue excavations at the site of Zvonimirovo – Veliko polje included the western slope of the central part of the elevation, which contained cremation graves of the La Tene culture. At the bottom of the rectangular grave pits with rounded corners there are the cremated remains of the dead with costume and jewellery items, and with ceramic vessels placed next to them. The graves were partly destroyed by earlier intense agricultural cultivation; the best preserved grave is a warrior’s grave with a long iron spear. The excavations conducted on the western slope in previous years found several more graves, in which the only offensive weaponry was a single spear in each grave; these are the graves of spearmen, arranged around the graves of warriors equipped with swords in scabbards. A small pile of cremated bones in grave LT 129 contained two larger iron fibulae and fragments of two bronze fibulae with three ceramic vessels placed next to them. The typological characteristics of the finds date the discovered graves to phase LT C2 (Mokronog IIb)
Late Bronze and Early Iron Age at the hillfort of Crkvišće – Bukovlje
The paper presents the results of archaeological research conducted in 2010 at the site of Crkvišće – Bukovlje. The archaeological excavations revealed a very small part of the prehistoric settlement; however, the analysis of stratigraphy and archaeological artefacts, but also the typological and chronological analysis of pottery, have led to conclusions about the time period of the settlement and details about the organization of the settlement, the structure of the ramparts, and the probable positions of structures in the settlement. The analysis of the pottery style has established that the site was settled in the younger phase of the Urnfield culture, which coincides with the results of the exploration of similar hillfort sites along the rivers of the Pokuplje region
Ceramic Drinkware from Castles and Earth-and- Timber Fortifications as Indicators of the Medieval Slavonian Nobility’s Status
In the paper ceramic tableware used for drinking beverages from castles and fortified residences of lesser lords and major tenants in the area of medieval Slavonia is examined. Emphasis is placed on tableware of local production, i.e. cups and beakers, while findings of imported tableware which originate from analyzed sites and areas are briefly annotated. The focus is put on the period of the late Middle Ages, mainly the 15th and the very beginning of the 16th century, that is on the horizon that is recognized and better explored on all observed sites. The aim of the paper is to try to see if we can recognise and get wider knowledge on the nobleman´s social status from these objects that he has used in everyday life and even more if we can recognised any patterns in the geographical distribution of the goods of the local production. The analysis of the material gave positive answers to these questions and it can be concluded that the tableware of local production is a remarkable source for studying the status, relationships and links of local nobility, and that great potential of that materials in the area of medieval Slavonia is not yet exhausted

Field survey and documentation of hillfort sites in the greater Trogir area in 2019 as a starting point of the systematic study of the Hyllean peninsula
U radu su predstavljeni rezultati postignuti istraživanjima, uz uvodni dio kojim je detaljno opisano prethodno stanje istraženosti.“Trogir Through Time”, an international scientific research project of the Trogir Town Museum, the Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb, and the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, included a field survey and the photogrammetric and topographic documentation of nine prehistoric sites in the greater Trogir area (the settlements of Seget Gornji and Bristivica in the municipality of Seget, and Blizna Gornja and Vinišće in the municipality of Marina) in October 2019. It is the area northwest of the Sutilija hillfort and the related enclosures of Velika Gradina and Baturova Gomila in Baradići, and the large hillfort sites Čurkovac above Bristivica with the enclosures of Ćudine and Domazeti in its immediate vicinity, Grad above Blizna Gonja and its related enclosures Brig and Gradina, and Oriješćak near Vinišće. The paper presents the research results with an introduction part describing in detail the earlier state of research
Rescue archaeological excavations of the Roman age tumulus 1 in Stari Jankovci in 2017–2019
The archaeological site of Jankovačka Dubrava – Velika Međa is located at the western entrance to the village of Stari Jankovci near Vinkovci. One part of the site lies in the woods of Jankovačka Dubrava and the other lies on the arable land near the riverbed of what used to be a paleostream. The site has been known for more than a hundred years; it was first explored by the National Museum of Zagreb in 1878 and 1879. On that occasion, they described five large tumuli: four in the woods and one in the neighbouring field. Later papers dated the tumuli to the prehistoric period. Because of intensive cultivation of the land next to the woods, Vinkovci Municipal Museum undertook a magnetometric survey together with Eastern Atlas Ltd. in 2015 to verify whether the slight elevation on the field hides the remains of a tumulus. When the results were positive, they started systematic excavations. During the three seasons of excavations, from 2017 to 2019, it was confirmed that the tumuli were from the Roman period. The excavations of tumulus 1 uncovered two large burial chambers and two central cremation graves. The explored chamber contained a two-wheeled Roman carriage with two horses, while the central cremation graves were robbed. Around tumulus 1 there were cremation and inhumation graves from late antiquity
The results of the rescue excavations of the Late Avar Age cemetery of Šarengrad – Klopare in 2019
The third season of the rescue excavations of Šarengrad – Klopare, a row-grave cemetery from the Late Avar Age, resulted in new insights about the period from the second half of the 7th century to the end of the 12th century in the Croatian Danube region. The excavations focused on the area of the cemetery stretching eastwards beyond Trenches I and II, which resulted in the discovery of new row graves, with more richly furnished child burials, the Slavic cremation burials in urns and grave pits, and the discovery of a ceramic kiln of the Bijelo Brdo cultural complex from between the 9th and the 12th century. The excavations defined the orientation of the cemetery, which is currently the first archaeologically excavated biritual cemetery in continental Croatia
