This study examines the role of Santería music as practiced by African Dominicans in Villa Mella, a neighborhood of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This musical tradition comes from the culture and religion of the Yoruba people who were brought as slaves from Africa, and features complex drum rhythms and call-and-response chants. This paper deals with the historical and social context of Santería music within the Dominican Republic, but its principal objective is to adopt the musical language of this tradition and use it to create a new contemporary work for mixed choir and small ensemble.
One of the most influential musical groups for this thesis was La Cofradía de los Congos del Espíritu Santo de Villa Mella, because it follows the original practices and rituals, and it has a large presence on Youtube. The use of this musical tradition, along with contemporary composition techniques and Christian religious texts about the Holy Spirit, resulted in a composition that choral groups in the Dominican Republic can perform during the high feast of Pentecost in the church calendar
Predictors of suicide and differences in attachment styles and resilience among treatment-seeking first responder subtypes
Get PDFObjective: To identify the predictors of suicide for firefighters (FFs), emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and law enforcement officers (LEOs). Methods: We used baseline data from FFs/EMTs (n = 69) and LEOs (n = 81) to investigate the unique predictors for both first-responder subtypes. We conducted confirmatory factor analysis on validated assessments of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression.Measures of attachment, resilience, PTSD, depression, generalized anxiety, trauma history, and substance use were the independent variables in two backward stepwise regressions predicting suicide. Results: Substance use and somatic depression were significant predictors for LEOs, whereas affective depression, anhedonia, externalizing behaviors, trauma history, and generalized anxiety were significant predictors for FFs/EMTs. Limitations: These data are cross-sectional and should be modeled longitudinally over the course of treatment. Conclusion: Separate constructs influence suicide for LEOs and FFs/EMTs

As mathematicians recognized this as a division of abstract algebra, the area became known as “continuous transformation groups, but we now refer to them as Lie groups.
Patterns and structures emerged from their work, such as describing Lie groups in connection with their associated Lie algebras, which can be categorized in many important ways. In this paper, we focus on Lie algebras over the complex numbers, and how simplicity and the related notion of semisimplicity, as well as root spaces and their representations, reveal that there are, up to isomorphism, surprisingly few simple complex Lie algebras, a result which Killing examined intuitively.
Élie Cartan’s influence on the development of the theory of Lie algebras, though chronologically slightly later, was key to making the theory of Lie algebras the influential topic it continues to be today. Get PDFA flavorful crisp beer is a popular, worldwide beverage. Beer can be either carbonated or nitrogenated, each giving a different sensory outcome. Carbonated beer, such as Budweiser, has a crispy and light texture, whereas nitrogenated beer, such as Guinness, has a creamy, smooth mouthfeel. A comparison study of these two different beer types was done using a Packaged Beverage Analyzer (PBA). The PBA is used to analyze the density, CO CO2, O 2, N 2, and alcohol content of various beverages, such as beer, sparkling water, and soda. The parameters assigned to the carbonated beer were container type and temperature at which it was stored. In contrast, the parameters for the nitrogenated beer were container type and widget variation. Consumers desire consistent tastes and longevity in their beverages, and these parameters could potentially impact the shelf stability and sensory outcomes of each type of beer
