    The Effects of COVID-19 School Disruptions on Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Skills

    School disruptions, closure of school buildings and online learning, in response to the coronavirus disease in 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic impacted students in unique ways (Azmat & Ahmad, 2022; Hosszu et al., 2022; Hussong et al., 2021; Patrick et al., 2020; Spitzer, 2020) and possibly had long-term effects on the social, emotional, and behavioral skills students normally establish and practice within the school setting (Steedly et al., 2008; Taylor & Larson, 1999; Zins et al., 2007). The lack of research related to the effects of school closures during the Covid-19 pandemic on social, emotional, and behavioral skills was addressed in this research study through analyzing student discipline referral data from pre-Covid school closures and after schools reopened (Welsh, 2022). During the Covid-19 pandemic, school disruptions likely had an impact on students and the development of their social, emotional, and behavioral skills (Hosszu et al., 2022; Spitzer, 2020).     Bioinformatic Analysis of the Interaction Of EVC And EVC2 Proteins

    Protein to protein interactions are significant to various biological processes, functioning, and the regulation of cells and organisms. Proteins perform essential cellular tasks and often work together in complexes, enabling specific functions like enzymatic activity, signal transduction, DNA replication, and cell division. These interactions are important in signaling pathways, allowing proteins to interact sequentially, leading to specific cellular responses. Some proteins rely on chaperones to fold correctly, and protein to protein interactions enhance stability, preventing degradation. Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine discovered that EvC syndrome is related to a malfunction in the Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway. They found that Hh agonists stimulate the interaction between the ciliary protein EVC2 and Smoothened (Smo) at a specific ciliary compartment called the EVC zone. This complex is essential for proper Hh signal transmission and plays an important role in the molecular basis of EvC syndrome and Weyers Acrofacial Dysostosis. EVC and EVC2 are found together in a complex, and it is assumed that they interact with each other to influence their activities. To identify protein to protein interactions, a combination of computational tools and software were used. Alphafold, a learning-based system, predicts the 3D structure of proteins, providing valuable insights into their conformation and potential interaction sites. ClusPro and ZDock, protein docking software, were used to predict the binding mode between two proteins and generate potential complexes. Prodigy, a web server that calculates the binding affinity between two proteins, was used to assess the strength of the predicted interactions. Furthermore, Pymol, a molecular visualization tool, aided in visualizing and analyzing the 3D structures of proteins and their interactions, facilitating the exploration of potential binding sites and intermolecular interactions. In the fragment region (451-750), we observed probable interactions between mEVC and mEVC2 involving 11 amino acids: LEU-540, LYS-541, PRO- 544, GLU-545, SER-548, LEU-549, PRO-550, VAL-551, ALA-552, GLU-553, and THR-556. These contacts included van der Waals forces (hydrophobic) and electrostatic interactions, with some of them forming hydrogen bonds. In most of the complexes, EVC2 did not make direct contact with the P-loop and Leucine zipper region of EVC. The study provided valuable insights into the amino acids responsible for the interaction between mEVC and mEVC2 proteins, highlighting the importance of specific residues and the effects of mutations on their interaction dynamics. However, obtaining consistent interaction interfaces across various models was challenging, possibly due to limitations in generating repeated or sufficient models using computational tools and software

    Validation of the PCL-5, PHQ-9, and GAD-7 in a Sample of Veterans

    Objective: Veterans can present at nongovernment (Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs) mental health agencies with complex symptom constellations that frequently include posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, and generalized anxiety. To date, no veteran study has validated these measures on a treatment-seeking sample of veterans outside the DoD and VA. Methods: We used a treatment-seeking sample of veterans (N = 493) to validate measures that assess these constructs (PTSD Checklist 5, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7). Results: The seven-factor posttraumatic stress disorder hybrid configuration was the best fit. The best fitting model of the depression measure was a two-factor structure, cognitive-affective, and somatic depression. The measure of generalized anxiety was a unidimensional model. Limitations: Follow-up studies should validate these measures on non-treatment-seeking discharged veterans. Conclusions: We interpret these findings within the veteran scholarship and explore clinical implications for providers

    The researchers, speech-language pathology graduate students, conducted an experimental study to explore the effectiveness of early literacy intervention for nursery rhyme awareness and rhyme awareness in pre-kindergarten (PK) children attending a local Head Start facility.     In order for some cities to be competitive for growth, there is a need to emphasize efforts on creating infill. Swapping abandoned, run down houses for new ones benefits the immediate neighborhood and ripples outward through the entire community. Municipalities can proactively work with stakeholders to create a strategic plan to rehabilitate these properties and breathe new life into an existing neighborhood. By stepping into the role of promotor, designer, facilitator, and coordinator, a city can create an environment that is attractive to builders and developers, add housing, and add value to the community. Cities that successfully create partnerships with community stakeholders and focus on the creation of an intentional, yet flexible, strategic plan to attract infill housing will see results. This article suggests a general outline and other options to consider when drafting such a plan with references to cities across the United States, with emphasis on those located in the state of Texas
