Lankadeepa used the term "surupiniya" (සුරූපිනිය) to describe this woman in the headline when irrelevant to the context of the news, whereas Dinamina used the appropriate term "tharuniya" (තරුණිය) in the headline. Media guidelines advise against the use of such terms which highlight the external appearance of women and can contribute towards sexual objectification

No helplines were mentioned, the method of suicide was reported, pictures of the people who died by suicide and photos of the bodies were published, suicide notes were published, suicide was prominently reported, usage of phrases like committed suicide, which indicates that suicide was a crime. While local media violated ethical guidelines regarding a celebrity suicide, foreign media reported ethically about the same incident

Interest payments saw a 20 percent rise, from LKR 2189 bn in 2023 to LKR 2634 bn. In comparison with actual figures in 2022, expected interest payments for 2024 is set to increase by 68 percent. On the 5th of September, Dinamina, Mawbima, Lankadeepa, Divaina and Aruna reported on the death of a counsellor. The incident had been sensationalised through the headlines which had been used.
On the 6th of September Dinamina and Aruna sensationalised the death of a person at a massage parlour.
On the 15th of September, Dinamina, Divaina, Aruna and Lankadeepa reported headlines which quoted a son who had received a death sentence. The papers mentioned that the son had killed the man who was having an affair with his mother. The son had said that he was going to face death because of his mother's affair. The papers had sensationalised this reporting.
On the 22nd of September, an incident where a man had assaulted his relative for having squeezed his sister's hand was reported in the Sinhala newspapers. Ada reported this incident in an ethical manner. But Dinamina included a picture of a knife, while Aruna had a cartoon to depict the scene which was being described, and by doing so, sensationalised the news report.
On the 27th of September, Dinamina, Lankadeepa, Mawbima, Aruna and Divaina published articles about a female who had been arrested for online sexual crimes. Lankadeepa, Mawbima and Divaina published headlines which sought to sensationalise the news story
