    Facebook/Meta usage in higher education: A deep learning-based dual-stage SEM-ANN analysis

    The paper’s main aim is to investigate and predict major factors in students’ behavioral intentions toward academic use of Facebook/Meta as a virtual classroom, taking into account its adoption level, purpose, and education usage. In contrast to earlier social network research, this one utilized a novel technique that comprised a two-phase analysis and an upcoming the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) analysis approach known as deep learning was engaged to sort out relatively significant predictors acquired from Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). This study has confirmed that perceived task-technology fit is the most affirmative and meaningful effect on Facebook/Meta usage in higher education. Moreover, facilitating conditions, collaboration, subjective norms, and perceived ease of use has strong influence on Facebook usage in higher education. The study’s findings can be utilized to improve the usage of social media tools for teaching and learning, such as Facebook/Meta. There is a discussion of both theoretical and practical implications

    Effect of mica powder-filled styrene-butadiene rubber compounds on crosslink density and mechanical properties

    In this study, four different compounds were produced by adding different proportions of mica powder (0-5-10-20%) to styrene-butadiene rubber. After vulcanization, the crosslink density, hardness, density, tensile strength, elongation percentage, and tearing strength of the compounds were measured. In addition, the effects of crosslink density on mechanical properties were discussed. The physio-mechanical properties of the new compounds produced were compared both among themselves and with the properties of the rubber being referenced. It was observed that increasing the crosslink density of mica powder provided an advantage in terms of hardness, tensile strength, tearing strength, and percentage elongation properties. To explain the changes in mechanical properties, the tensile fracture surfaces were determined by SEM and energy dispersive spectroscopy.     Functional and radiological results of the surgical treatment of pediatric femoral neck fractures

    Objective: Our aim in this study was to evaluate the demographic data on femoral neck fractures, postoperative complications, and functional and radiological results following its surgical treatment in the pediatric age group. Pediatric femoral neck fractures often occur after high-energy trauma and seen rarely. Material and Methods: Twenty-six patients who underwent surgery after the diagnosis of femoral neck fracture in our clinic between 2012 and 2019 were examined. Demographic data, trauma mechanism, accompanying injuries, and postoperative complications of the patients were recorded from our registry system. Functional radiological evaluation was performed using Ratliff criteria. Results: The mean age of the participants in the study was 11.11 (3–16) year, and the mean follow-up time was 29.34 (12-60) months. According to Ratliff criteria, 18 patients (69.2%) achieved good, 6 patients achieved (23.1%) moderate, and 2 patients achieved (7.7%) poor results after surgery. Avascular necrosis was observed in 5 patients (19.2%) in total. Avascular necrosis did not occur in 10 patients who underwent surgery within first 6 hours. Avascular necrosis occurred in 5 (31.25%) out of 11 patients who underwent surgery after 6 hours. This result was statistically significant (p = 0.049). Of the 5 patients with avascular necrosis, 3 were female and 2 were male. The clinical and radiological results were evaluated according to the Ratliff criteria, and the results were found to be worse in females than in men. There was a statistically significant difference between the genders (p=0.029). Conclusion: Although femoral neck fractures are rare injuries in the pediatric age group, they are important due to the high risk of complications. The most important complication is avascular necrosis. Results are better males than in females.     The Dose-Dependent Antiangiogenic Potential of Apixaban: An Experimental Outlook

    Aim: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are good alternatives to conventional medical regimens for the treatment and prevention of thromboembolism. Apixaban is one of the more popular variations of these newly developed drugs. Aside from its anticoagulant potential, possible cellular effects remain a topic for future studies. The object of this study was to investigate the possible antiangiogenic effects of apixaban in the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model. Method: Drug pellets were prepared at 10-4, 10-5, and 10-6 M concentrations of apixaban and were placed in the chorioallantoic membrane on the fourth day of egg incubation. On the eighth day, all vascular densities of the membranes were compared with a 10-6 M concentration of bevacizumab, which is a known monoclonal, humanized, vascular endothelial growth-factor inhibitor. Results: We find that a 10-4 M concentration of apixaban has strong antiangiogenic potential similar to that of bevacizumab. However, there was moderate antiangiogenic potential at a lower dose of apixaban (10-5 M, 10-6 M). A comparison of the higher doses of antiangiogenic potential (10-4 M concentration) with lower doses of apixaban (10-5 M, 10-6 M) revealed significant statistical differences (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Our results indicate that a high dose of apixaban has strong antiangiogenic potential. The exact mechanism of this effect remains unknown. These pilot results should be confirmed with further studies to obtain an updated look at DOACs

    Analysis of goals scored in Turkish e-sports football league

    Araştırmanın amacı: Bu çalışmada, dijital çağın yeni futbol trendi olan Türkiye E Spor Futbol Ligi’nde üç sezonda oynanan müsabakaların gollerinin analiz edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Materyal ve Metot: Türkiye E-Spor Futbol Ligi’nde üç sezonda oynanan 348 müsabakada atılan toplam 1016 gol değerlendirmeye alındı. Değerlendirme kriterleri; gol atılan bölge, golün atıldığı dakika, gol öncesi asist bölgesi, ilk golün sonuca etkisi, golün oluş biçimi, duran top gol oluş biçimi, gol öncesi topa temas, gol oluş şekli (ayak vuruşu kafa vuruşu) ve gol bölgesi (ceza sahası içi – ceza sahası dışı) olarak belirlendi. Değerlendirmeler için Türkiye E-Spor Futbol Ligi’nin resmi Youtube kanalında yer alan müsabaka görüntüleri kullanıldı. Elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizi için SPSS 25 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı istatistiklerden olan frekans ve yüzde kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırma sonucunda, Türkiye E-Spor Futbol Ligi’nde atılan 1016 golün 219 (%21,5)’unun 76-90 dakikalar arasında atıldığını ve 348 müsabakada ilk golü atan 255 (%73,2) takımın müsabakayı kazandığı belirlenmiştir. Türkiye E-Spor Futbol Ligi’nde organize atak sonucu 925 (%91) golün atıldığı ve duran top gollerinden 67 (%73,6) golün penaltıdan atıldığı belirlenmiştir. Türkiye E-Spor Futbol Ligi’nde atılan gollerin 615 (%60,5)’i tek vuruş ile gerçekleşmiştir. Türkiye E-Spor Futbol Ligi’nde atılan 984 (%96,8) golün ceza sahası içinden ve 938 (%92,3) golün ayak vuruşu ile gerçekleştiği belirlenmiştir. Türkiye E-Spor Futbol Ligi’nde atılan 693 (%68,2) golün ceza sahası içinde tanımlanan 3. bölgeden atıldığı ve 201 (%24,3) asistin ceza sahası dışında tanımlanan 9. bölgeden gerçekleştiği belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Gerçek futbol müsabakaları ile e-spor futbol müsabakalarının analiz sonuçlarına göre benzerlik gösterdiği görülmektedir. Bu benzerliğin sebebinin FIFA oyunundaki her futbolcuyu birer oyuncunun kontrol etmesinden kaynaklı olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu sonuçlara dayanarak e-spor antrenörlerine; gol atmak ve golü önlemek için ceza sahası içinde tanımlanan 3. bölgeyi etkin kullanmaları önerilmektedir.Aim: In this study, it is aimed to analyze the goals of the matches played in three seasons in the Turkish E-sports Football League, which is the new football trend of the digital age. Material and method: A total of 1016 goals scored in 348 matches played in three seasons in the Turkish E-sports Football League were evaluated. Evaluation criteria; goal area, the minute the goal is scored, the assist area before the goal, the effect of the first goal on the result, the way the goal is formed, the set ball goal, the ball contact before the goal, the way the goal is scored (foot kick-head kick) and the goal zone (inside the penalty area – outside the penalty area). For the evaluations, the match videos on the official Youtube channel of the Turkish E-Sports Football League were used. SPSS 25 package program was used for statistical analysis of the obtained data. Frequency and percentage, which are descriptive statistics, were used in the analysis of the data. Findings: As a result of the research, it was determined that 219 (21,5%) of 1016 goals scored in the Turkish E-sports Football League were scored between 76-90 minutes and 255 (73,2%) teams that scored the first goal in 348 matches won the match. It has been determined that 925 (91%) goals were scored as a result of organized attacks in the Turkish E-sports Football League, and 67 (73,6%) goals from set ball goals were scored from penalty kicks. 615 (60,5%) of the goals scored in the Turkish E-sports Football League were achieved with a single hit. It has been determined that 984 (96,8%) goals scored in the Turkish E-sports Football League were made from within the penalty area and 938 (92,3%) goals were scored with a foot kick. It was determined that 693 (68,2%) goals in the Turkish E-sports Football League were scored from the 3rd zone defined within the penalty area, and 201 (24.3%) assists were made from the 9th zone defined outside the penalty area. Result: It is seen that real football competitions and e-sports football competitions show similarities according to the analysis results. The reason for this similarity is thought to be due to the fact that 1 player controls each football player in the vi FIFA game. Based on these results, E-sports trainers; It is recommended that they use the 3rd zone defined in the penalty area effectively in order to score and prevent a goal

    Müzakere alanında en önemli kavramsal modellerden olan Harvard Müzakere Modeli Fisher ve Ury (1981) tarafından geliştirilen “İlkeli Müzakere” yaklaşımını ortaya koymuştur. Ancak İlkeli Müzakerenin müzakerelerde ne ölçüde uygulanabildiğini ortaya çıkaran niceliksel bir ölçüt henüz bulunmamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, müzakerelerin ne ölçüde “ilkeler temelinde” yürütüldüğünün belirlenmesine yönelik bir Endeks geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Böylece müzakere yetkinliğinin kurumsal iletişime katkısı niceliksel hale getirilmiştir. Çalışmada, Fisher ve Ury (1981)’e dayanılarak Müzakere Endeksi Modeli adı verilen bir Endeks oluşturulmuştur. Endeksinin hesaplanma yöntemi olarak Denge Yöntemi esas alınmıştır. Müzakere Endeksi Modeli, müzakere sürecinde yer alan tarafların veya müzakere heyetlerinin İlkeli Müzakereyi ne ölçüde benimsediklerine ilişkin nesnel bir ölçüt ve müzakere sürecinin iyileştirilmesine yönelik bir bakış açısı sunmaktadır

    A social attention with altmetric score analysis on the relationship between oxidative stress and cancer

    Oxidative stress has a crucial role in the development of various cancers. The aim of our study was to identify and analyze research articles about oxidative stress and cancer that have attracted the highest online attention. Our study is the first one evaluating social media attention to the articles on cancer and oxidative stress published in academic literature. Altmetric Explorer was used to identify research articles about oxidative stress and cancer. We evaluated the top 50 research articles having the highest Altmetric attention scores (AAS), using the Altmetric.com database. The Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) of 50 articles (T50) investigated was between 15 and 445 (mean±SD; 60.66±86.18). The social media platforms where the T50 articles are mentioned from highest to the lowest scores are the Facebook (n=2678) followed by Twitter (n=886) and Google + users (n=214). According to demographic breakdowns in Twitter, tweet counts were similar between scientists (34%) and not scientists (32%). Total citations of the 50 articles ranged from 3 to 3700 (mean ± SE; 203.40±87.07). A weak statistically significant positive correlation was found between the Altmetric score and the Q category (r=0.338: p=0.016). Interestingly, there was no correlation between Altmetric score and number of article citations. The increasing use of online social media platforms makes this area worthy, and the online impact of an article is becoming progressively more convenient for academic and public accessibility. Social media also may give oppurtunity to the researchers for disseminating their studies in scholar and non-scholar platforms

    A Comparative Study on Performance of Insurance Companies with Grey Relational Analysis and Analytic Hierarchy Process

    In this study, financial performances of certain selected non-life insurance companies operating in Turkey between 2014-2018 are compared with two multi-criteria decision-making methods. The analytical hierarchy process is integrated into the grey relational analysis. First, the weights of the financial ratios are computed with the analytical hierarchy process, and then the companies are ranked by grey relational analysis using the weights found. The grey relational analysis results in which the financial ratios are taken as equally weighted are compared with the results in which the weights found with the help of the analytical hierarchy process. It is realized that the grey relational analysis results are affected by the weight of the financial ratios calculated with the analytical hierarchy process. In addition, it is observed that the ranking obtained by the combination of grey relational analysis and analytical hierarchy process is more compatible with the data in the financial reports

    Additive cell protective and oxidative stress reducing effects of combined treatment with cromolyn sodium and masitinib on MPTP-induced toxicity in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells

    The suppression of oxidative-stress induced neurotoxicity by antioxidants serves as a potential preventive strategy for neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate the cell protective and antioxidant effects of masitinib and cromolyn sodium against toxin-induced neurodegeneration. First, human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells were differentiated into neuron-like (d)-SH-SY5Y cells. The differentiated cells were confirmed by immuno-staining with anti-PGP9.5 antibody, a neuronal marker. Cell culture groups were formed, and a neurotoxin, 1-methyl-4-phenyl1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) was applied on cells followed by masitinib and/or cromolyn sodium treatments. Survival rate of cells were detected by MTT assay. Anti-inflammatory Transforming Growth Factor-?1 (TGF-?1) and nitric oxide (NO) levels and total oxidant and antioxidant capacities (TOC and TAC) in cell conditioned media (CM) were measured. Morphological analysis and apoptotic nuclear assessment of cells were also noted. When (d)-SH-SY5Y cells were exposed to neurotoxin, cell viability rates of these cells were found to be decreased in a concentration-dependent manner. CM of toxin applied group displayed higher levels of TOC/TAC ratios and NO levels compared to control (p < 0.01). Both masitinib and cromolyn sodium protected cells from toxin-induced cell death as revealed by ameliorated rates of viability, reversed toxin-induced elevation of TOC/ TAC ratios, and decreased NO levels in their CM (p < 0.01). Combined treatment significantly reduced TOC/TAC ratios and NO levels more effectively compared to mono-treatments. Both drugs also increased TGF-?1 levels significantly in cell CM. When these agents were tested for therapeutic effects against toxin-induced cell degeneration, better viability results were obtained by both masitinib and cromolyn sodium treatment, with significantly better amelioration provided by combined application of these drugs (p < 0.01). This study demonstrated new findings that combined treatment with cromolyn sodium, an FDA-approved drug of asthma, and masitinib, an orally administered drug with a low toxicity, exert neuroprotective and additive therapeutic effects. We propose that combination therapy of masitinib and cromolyn sodium may represent an innovative treatment in neurodegenerative diseases. Combination therapy may be more advantageous that it enables combined application of lower doses of both drugs, providing less side effects

    Uzaktan eğitimin önemi COVID-19 pandemisinden sonra artmıştır. Türkiye’de YÖK dersleri platformu, yükseköğretim düzeyinde uzaktan eğitim ders içerikleri sunan bir platformdur. Bu çalışmanın amacı YÖK dersleri platformundaki 41 muhasebe kitabının sayfa sayısı, unvan, kaynak dili, kaynak türü, kaynak yılı gibi birtakım özellikler açısından bibliyometrik analizle incelenmesidir. Editörlerin ağırlıklı kısmının ‘Profesör Doktor’ unvanlı olduğu, tüm muhasebe kategorilerinde ‘Profesör Doktor’ unvanlı bölüm yazarı sayısının diğer unvanlardan daha fazla olduğu, muhasebe bilgi sistemi/teknolojisi kategorisi hariç diğer tüm kategorilerde Türkçe kaynakların ağırlığının yabancı dildeki kaynaklara göre daha fazla olduğu görülmüştür. Tüm muhasebe kitaplarında yararlanılan kaynakların tamamı en çok başvurulandan en az başvurulana doğru sıralandığında, birinci sırada kitap, ikinci sırada dergi, üçüncü sırada internet, dördüncü sırada mevzuat, beşinci sırada tez, altıncı sırada diğer kaynaklar ve son sırada bildirinin yer aldığı belirlenmiştir
