Abstract: During the growing period of many agricultural and horticultural plants, the use of fertigation usually increases the yield; however, the response to this treatment may depend on the cultivar. The effect of subsurface drip fertigation with nitrogen on the yield of three asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) cultivars grown for green spears in light soil was studied. The multi-year (2011–2017) field experiment was carried out on sandy soil and was arranged in a split-plot design with four replications. The first factor was the method of fertilization with nitrogen: (1) control— spreading nitrogen fertilization without irrigation and (2) subsurface drip fertigation with nitrogen. The second factor was the genotype (a cultivar) of asparagus—the following cultivars were tested: Ramada, Rapsody and Ravel. Generally, subsurface drip fertigation with nitrogen increases the marketable yield of green spears and the number of spears produced by a single plant, as well single-spear weight. ‘Ramada’ achieved the best results with all yield parameters. A significant correlation coefficient between the sum of rainfall and irrigation rates and yield parameters of tested cultivars was also found. The studies showed a varied response of the tested asparagus cultivars to the fertigation treatment

Plant protein enrichment effect on the physical, chemical, microbiological, and sensory characteristics of yogurt

    No full text
Yogurt is a coagulated dairy product that is fermented by typical starter cultures. Yogurt has the highest demand rate among fermented products due to its sensory properties. Well-consumed food products are being enriched by either adding nutri-ents or improving the already available content for the development of the product. From this point of view, protein enrichment is one of the approaches that contribute to the nutrient content of food products. The addition of plant- based protein is a step that improves the nutrient content and is a sustainable approach for the functionali-zation of the product. In the present study, two types of plant protein were added; chickpea and pea in two different concentrations of 0.5% (w/w) and 1% (w/w) to de-termine the changes in the physicochemical, textural, microbiological, and sensory properties of the yogurt during storage at 4°C for 21 days. In yogurt samples, pH value, titratable acidity, color measurements (L*, a*, b*), texture parameters (firmness, consistency, cohesiveness), and microbiological contents show a significant difference during the storage period (p .05). The sensory evalu-ation results highlighted that protein enrichment develops consistency, mouthfeel, and oiliness scores compared to the control product (no plant protein added sample). These significant sensory modalities are determined by the casein network and water- binding capability of the proteins, which was visible as a result of this study.Novelty impact statement: • Plant protein addition improves the sensory properties of yogurt.• Plant proteins are effective on the physicochemical properties of fermented dairy products.• Functionalization of yogurt is achievable with the usage of plant protein addition

Purpose This study aims to investigate the relationships between firms' strategic planning (SP), leadership and technology transfer competence (TTC) by specifically incorporating the mediating role of strategic quality management (SQM). Design/methodology/approach This study performs structural equation modeling using AMOS on survey data collected from 200 Turkish firms operating in multiple industries and sectors. Findings This study finds that leadership in Turkish firms operating in multiple sectors is positively associated with SQM. This study further finds that SQM positively influences Turkish firms' TTC and mediates the roles of SP and leadership in TTC. Research limitations/implications A key research implication from this study relates to the mediating role of SQM in TTC in an emerging economy context. This study highlights that SP and leadership can play an essential role in TTC through the mediating mechanism of SQM. Consequently, SQM emerges as a crucial linking pin in conveying the impact of quality management practices on technology transfer in emerging markets. Practical implications An essential managerial implication of this study relates to the critical roles of leadership, SP and SQM in TTC. For the managers of firms operating in a relatively uncertain emerging context such as Turkey, it is essential to adopt a supportive and empowering leadership style, where open communication and innovative activities are viewed positively and SQM is adopted holistically. Also, SP should be streamlined throughout the firm and followed by SQM to support TTC. Originality/value This paper links the technology (and knowledge) management and the strategy and leadership literature streams by focusing on the mechanisms of technology transfer and delving into the linkages between SQM, leadership, SP and TTC. It specifically presents SP and leadership as precursors to SQM in their joint influence on TTC. Accordingly, this research bridges technology, strategy and leadership research and provides a broader picture of technology transfer that encompasses the joint role of different processes in firms' TTC

Energy has always been needed in terms of continuity of life, economic growth, social and environmental aspects, and it continues to be needed today. In daily life, as well as in production, imports, and exports; the lack of resources and the increase in energy demand have led to conflicts between countries from time to time. That is because energy means production, export, economic growth, and power. Today, with the development of technology, clean, inexhaustible, and lower-cost energy sources have started to be favored over fossil sources. Renewable energy sources, which are easy to access and easily convertible into energy are still being used efficiently every day thanks to the incentives provided. (Olcar,2010). Countries like Turkey, whose existing energy reserves are not sufficient to meet the current need and have to import it, are foreign-dependent countries in energy. Economic growth, current account deficit, and energy imports get trapped in a compelling cycle due to high foreign dependency on energy. Importing most of the energy needed leads to an increase in the current account deficit. In this study, the effects of net energy imports on economic growth, foreign trade balance, and current account deficit, under the effect of renewable energy production and exchange rate, were investigated by using Turkey data between 2001 and 2022. As a result of the analyzes made using unit root, ARDL, and causality tests, it has been observed that the dollar exchange rate value does not have a significant effect on the amount of imported energy, but there is an inverse relationship between renewable energy production and the amount of imported energy, both in the short and long term. Increasing renewable energy production in our country will contribute to the reduction of our country's current account deficit in the long term by reducing our net energy imports

Background: Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) is a rare neurological disease caused by the pathological accumulation of tau protein. The primary pathological features of CBD include progressive neurodegenerative processes resulting in remarkable frontoparietal and basal ganglia atrophy. Objective: Like in many other neurodegenerative disorders, there is still no effective disease-modifying drug therapy in CBD. Therefore, the development of new treatment methods is of great importance. In this study, we aimed to assess the stimulating effects of high-frequency DLPFC rTMS on the motor, cognitive and behavioral disturbances in four CBD patients. Methods: Four (three females, one male) CBD patients who had been diagnosed as CBD were enrolled in this study. Patients were evaluated before and after the rTMS procedure regarding the motor, neuropsychometric and behavioral tests. The results of statistical analysis of behavioral and neuropsychometric evaluation were assessed via SPSS 18.0 package program. Data are expressed as mean, standard deviation. Before and after values of the groups were compared with the Wilcoxon sign rank test, and p<0.05 was considered significant. Results: We have provided strong preliminary evidence that the improvement in clinical parameters was associated with the normalizations of the theta activity and glucose metabolism. Conclusion: Our current results are consistent with some previous trials showing a strong association between DLPFC targeted rTMS and electrophysiological normalizations in the left DLPFC

This study, it is aimed to find out the beneficiation of Malatya-Arguvan lignite by gravity methods. First of all, the washability of lignite has been investigated with sink-float experiments. It has been determined that lignite washability from washing curves is generally difficult but may be possible with controlled washing at a density of 1.68 g /cm3. Then, to remove ash and sulfur from lignite by shaking table, spiral and Falcon concentrator tests were conducted. Clean coals are obtained from all other methods except Falcon were found to decrease in ash and sulfur content and increase in calorific value. Clean coals with the lowest ash and sulfur content were obtained with a spiral concentrator. Reichert spiral results showed that the ash content decreased from the lignite of 37.77% to 26.50% and the sulfur content from 3.85% to 2.08%. The calorific value increased from 2576 kcal/kg to 4590 kcal/kg. Arguvan lignite has very limited usage due to lower calorific value, high ash and sulfur content. Although enrichment has been carried out, it has been concluded that lignite needs to be further improved by using different methods

    Get PDF
Limited number of researches exist on the relationship between PPARGC1A gene polymorphism (rs8192678) and affects the athletic performance. Thus, the present study aims to decipher any possible association of the rs8192678 polymorphism in the PPARGC1A gene with the competitive performances of Turkish elite track and field athletes. A total of 60 elite athletes (31 sprint/power and 29 endurance) and 20 control/sedentary with the ages of 18-35 voluntarily participated in the study. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) score scale was used to determine the performance levels of the personal best (PB) of the athletes. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed by the genomic DNA sample isolated from blood of the participants. The association between rs8192678 polymorphism and PB was examined by one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) with the adjustment of sex and sport experience. According to the results, there were not any significant deviation between the wild-type (G/G), heterozygote (G/A) and homozygote (A/A) genotypes within and between the groups (p>0.05). Our results underlined that there were not any significances for association of rs8192678 polymorphism with PBs within the groups of the sprint/power and endurance athletes. However, it is recommended that similar studies be conducted with more participants to provide clearer information about the research
