    Bir Çocuk Hastanesinde Perioperatif Hipotermi Prevalansı ve Predispozan Faktörler

    STRACT Aim: Perioperative hypothermia is more common in pediatric patients than in adult patients due to increased body surface area/weight ratio and limited subcutaneous fat deposits. Therefore, active and passive warming techniques are used more frequently in the surgeries applied to pediatric patients. This study presents the prevalence of perioperative hypothermia and the predisposing conditions for perioperative hypothermia in pediatric orthopedic surgeries in which active and passive warming techniques are applied. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive, and observational study included 102 children admitted to the pediatric orthopedic clinic of a children’s hospital. Temperature measurements were made with a calibrated infrared tympanic thermometer in all cases while they were waiting in the service room, when they entered the operation theater, when they left the operation theater and when they left the postoperative care unit. Their demographic data, hemogram and thyroid hormone parameters, preoperative fasting times related to the procedure and temperature were recorded. Also, the humidity and temperature values of the operating theater, the operation type performed, the duration of the operation, the time spent in the operating theater and the recovery time from anesthesia, were all recorded in their follow-up forms. Data analysis was done using the SPSS V21.0 and was conducted at a 95% confidence interval. Results: Hypothermia was observed in 20.58% of 102 patients included in the study. Predisposing factors for perioperative hypothermia included the fact that the patient had a diagnosis of concomitant cerebral palsy, the patient's body temperature was low in the service area, low temperature and humidity values in the operating theatre and staying in the operating theatre for a prolonged period of time. Conclusion: Although active and passive warming techniques are applied during the operation, perioperative hypothermia was observed in 20.58% of pediatric patients who underwent the orthopedic operation. Consideration of predisposing factors together with active and passive warming techniques may reduce the incidence of perioperative hypothermia

    Pregnant Women's Beliefs About Third-hand Smoke and Exposure to Tobacco Smoke

    Objective: The aim of this study was to reveal pregnant women’s beliefs about third-hand smoke and their exposure to tobacco smoke. Methods: The population of this cross-sectional study consisted of patients attending the obstetrics and gynaecology outpatient clinic of the hospital in Samsun, a province of Turkey on the Black Sea coast (annual average 4,000 pregnant women). The minimum sample size of the study was determined as 350 at a confidence interval of 95%, prevalence of 50% and margin of error 0.05. The study data were collected with the personal information form used to determine the personal characteristics of the participants, and the Beliefs about Third-Hand Smoke (BATHS-T) scale. The data were analysed in the SPSS 25.0 program using the descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean age of the participating pregnant women was 26.84 ± 4.372 years. Of them, 48.4% were high school graduates and 86% did not work. Their mean gestational age was 29.85 ± 9.238 weeks, and 69.8% of them were in the third trimester. Of them, 9.8% were smokers, and the average number of cigarettes they smoked per day was 6.97 ± 4.931. The mean score they obtained from the BATHS-T scale was 3.79 ± 0.859. There was a significant relationship between the mean score obtained from the BATHS-T scale and the variables such as education and smoking status. As the level of education increased, exposure to third-hand smoke decreased (p < 0.05). The mean score the smoking pregnant women obtained from the BATHS-T scale was lower than that of the non-smoking pregnant women. Conclusion: High level of education decreases exposure to third-hand smoke. Belief in third-hand smoke is an important factor affecting pregnant women’s smoking habit

    Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a childhood-onset disorder that affects 5% to 12% of children worldwide. Etiological factors, including nutrition, contribute to this disease, which is characterized by inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity symptoms. Fats, which form an important part of the daily diet, can have effects on ADHD and its symptoms. In the literature, it is stated that omega-3 fatty acids are low in children with ADHD, and supplementation studies may be effective in improving symptoms. In addition, high omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids ratio in the diet and diets rich in saturated and trans fatty acids are associated with ADHD.     Sağlıklı besin elde etmek üzere gıdaların işlenme aşamasında birçok ilave unsur kullanılmaktadır. Gıdanın üretimi ve taşınması aşamalarında eklenen maddelere gıda katkı maddesi adı verilmektedir. Gıdalarda, katkı maddelerine başvurulma nedeni besinin farklı kaynaklar veya etmenlerden kirlenmesinin önüne geçilmesidir. Gıda katkı maddeleri koruyucular, besin katkı maddeleri, renklendirici maddeler, tatlandırıcı maddeler, tekstüre edici maddeler ve çeşitli maddeler şeklinde sınıflandırılmaktadır. Gıda katkı maddelerinden olan Sodyum Benzoat (SB) genel olarak alkollü içeceklerde, meyve ve sebze sularında, gazlı meşrubatlarda, alkollü-alkolsüz içeceklerde, konservelerde, çeşitli soslarda ve kozmetik ürünlerinde küf, maya, bakteri oluşumunu inhibe etmek maksadıyla kullanılan benzoik asidin sodyum tuzu olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Her maddenin fazla tüketilmesi toksik etki göstermektedir. İşlenmiş gıdalara eklenen kimyasal maddelerin bazıları etik açıdan sorunlu kabul edilmektedir. SB'nin gıda katkı maddesi olarak kullanımıyla ilgili pek çok endişe bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma tavuk embriyosunda koryoallantoik membran (CAM) modeli kullanılarak anjiyogenez ve oksidan-antioksidan aktivitelerin test edilip taranması suretiyle gıda katkı maddelerinden, SB'nin olası yan etkileri ve sebep olabileceği sonuçları gözlemlemek amacıyla tasarlanmıştır.Many additives are used in the processing of foods to obtain healty food. Food additives the substances that are added during the processing and transportation of foodare called as food additives . The purpose of using food additives is to prevent contamination of food from various sources and factors. Food additives are classified as preservatives, nutritional additives, coloring agents, flavoring agents, texturizing agents and various substances. Sodium Benzoate (SB), one of the food additives, is defined as the sodium salt of benzoic acid, which is generally used in alcoholic beverages, fruit and vegetable juices, carbonated soft drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, conserves, various sauces, and cosmetics products to inhibit the formation of mold, yeast and bacteria. Excess consumption of each substance shows toxic effects. Some of the chemicals added to processed foods are considered ethically problematic. There are many concerns about the use of SB as a food additive.     Objective: To investigate the relationship between complaints and serum trace elements and oxidative stress levels in pediatric patients with allergic rhinitis (AR). Study design: Descriptive study. Place and duration of study: Department of Otolaryngorhinology, Medicine Faculty, Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, between May and September 2020. Methodology: Thirty-five patients diagnosed with AR in the pediatric age group and 35 healthy control groups were examined. The patients were evaluated according to the ARIA (Allergic rhinitis and its ımpact on asthma) guidelines. Blood samples were taken during the attack to measure serum Zn and Cu levels and oxidative stress levels from patients diagnosed with AR. Measurements of serum Zinc and Copper levels, and recently developed new generation oxidant-antioxidant balance markers were performed spectrophotometrically using a commercial kit.] Results: The mean ages of the study patients and healthy controls were 10.9 ± 4.7 and 10.5 ± 4.9 years, respectively. Female/Male ratio was 20 (57.1%)/15 (42.9%) in both groups. Zn level was lower in the patient group (p <0.05). Total thiol and native thiol values were higher in the control group (p <0.05). Statistically significant high disulfide values were found in allergic patients (p <0.05). Conclusion: Oxidative stress plays a role in the pathophysiology of allergic rhinitis, and thiol-disulfide hemostasis may be an indicator in allergic rhinitis.     Evaluation of the physical and emotional effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with fibromyalgia and chronic low back pain: A multicenter cross-sectional controlled study

    Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the physical and emotional effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and chronic low back pain (CLBP) patients. Patients and methods: The cross-sectional controlled study was performed with 1,360 participants (332 males, 1,028 females; mean age: 42.3±12.5 years; range, 18 to 65 years) between September 2020 and February 2021. The participants were evaluated in three groups: the FMS group (n=465), the CLBP group (n=455), and the healthy control group (n=440). Physical activity, pain levels, and general health status before and during the pandemic were evaluated in all participants. Stress levels were analyzed with the perceived stress scale (PSS) in all groups, and disease activity was analyzed with the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (FIQ) in patients with FMS. Results: Patients with FMS had worsened general health status and pain levels during the pandemic compared to the other groups (p<0.01). The FMS group showed significantly higher PSS scores than those in other groups (p<0.01). There was a weak-positive correlation between FIQ and PSS parameters in patients with FMS (p<0.05, r=0.385). Conclusion: The general health status, pain, and stress levels of the patients with FMS and CLBP tended to worsen during the pandemic. This high-stress level appeared to affect disease activity in patients with FMS

    The Effect of Regularly Performed Oderate-Intensity Exercise Program on Thiol/Disulfide Homeostasis, and Ischemia-Modified Albumin

    Aim: Thiol/disulfide homeostasis is an indicator of oxidative stress and antioxidant capacity. Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) is an important marker for both oxidative stress and ischemia. We aimed to evaluate the possible effects of regularly performed moderate-intensity exercise on thiol/disulfide homeostasis, and IMA levels. Methods: Sprague Dawley rats were used. The study was composed of an Exercise group (EG, n=9) and Control group (CG, n=6). A 10-weeks swimming exercise was performed. Thiol/disulfide homeostasis measurement method was used in this study. IMA levels were measured by a cobalt-albumin binding method. Results: In the EG, total thiol levels were significantly higher compared to the CG (p<0.01). The disulfide/total thiol ratio was lower in the EG compared to the CG (p<0.01). We observed that there was a slight increase in IMA levels in EG (p=0.18). This increase was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Regularly performed moderate-intensity exercise has increased native and total thiol levels. Increase of thiol levels can prevent oxidative stress. Regularly performed moderate-intensity exercise programs appear to provide favourable effects on oxidative stress

    Tosmur Mahallesi Özelinde CBS Kullanılarak Yapıların Doğal Zemin Eğimlerinin Hafriyat Hacimleri Üzerindeki Etkisinin Araştırılması

    Ülkemizin en önemli sektörlerinden biri olan inşaat sektörü son yıllarda gösterdiği büyümeyle birlikte coğrafi etmenlere bağlı olarak birtakım sorunlarla karşılaşmıştır. Coğrafi etmenlere bağlı sorunlardan biri de bina imalatına uygun, engebesi az, düz olarak nitelendirilebilecek zemin sayısının, artan inşaat projelerine bağlı olarak giderek azalmasıdır. Bu duruma bağlı olarak inşaat proje yüklenicileri giderek daha engebeli arazilerde proje imalatına başlamak ve yükselen hafriyat maliyetlerini karşılamak durumunda kalmaktadır. Gerçekleştirdiğimiz bu çalışmada; Antalya ili Alanya ilçesi Tosmur Mahallesi özelinde, yapımı 2016 yılı öncesi ve sonrasında tamamlanan binaların doğal zemin kot farkları ve ortalama zemin düzeltme hafriyat hacimleri karşılaştırılmıştır. Çalışmada, günümüzde farklı mühendislik disiplinlerinde de sıklıkla uygulama alanı bulan, Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS) ve Uzaktan Algılama teknikleri kullanılmıştır. CBS paket programında oluşturulan Tosmur Mahallesi 3 boyutlu modeli üzerinde tüm binalar modellenmiş ve temel zemini kot farkları tablo halinde listelenmiştir. Ortalama temel alanları ve ortalama temel zemini kot farkları hesaplanmış, bu değerler üzerinden de ortalama zemin düzeltme hafriyat hacimlerine geçilmiştir. Çalışmanın en son kısmında ise 2016 yılı merkeze alınarak bu alandaki artış miktarları yüzdesel olarak sunulmuştur

    Radiologically Guided Versus Blinded Intra-articular Injection in Patients With Hip Osteoarthritis: A Retrospective Comparative Study

    OBjeCTIVeS: The aim of this study was to present the clinical results of patients with Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) stage 2-4 hip osteoarthritis who were administered intra-articular corticosteroid (CS) or hyaluronic acid (HA), with or without fluoroscopy.MeTHOdS: This retrospective comparative study was conducted in the clinics where the authors worked between 2010 and 2018. Patients with stage 2-4 hip osteoarthritis according to KL criteria were included in the study. Age, body mass index, American Society of Anesthesi-ologists stages, and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) scores (3rd, 6th, and 12th months) were recorded. Two groups were created as patients who underwent injection with or without fluoroscopy guidance. In group 1, CS (triamnisolone) was administered, and in group 2, sodium hyaluronate 88 mg/4 mL was administered. Obtained parameters were compared.ReSulT S: The WOMAC scores at 3 months of both the CS and HA groups were statistically significantly better than before the application, with the improvement in the CS group found to be significantly better than in the HA group (P = .047). At 6 months, the mean WOMAC scores of the CS and HA groups were better than prior to the application, and there was a statistically significant difference (P< .001). No significant differ-ence was found in either the CS or HA group in the comparison of 12-month WOMAC scores with the baseline scores (P = .744 and P = .054).COnCluSIOn: In symptomatic hip OA patients, intra-articular administration of CS and HA was seen to be effective at 3 and 6 months after administration. However, the effectiveness was determined to have disappeared within 1 year. Furthermore, in hip OA intra-articular drug applications, it was determined that the blinded technique without radiological guidance performed in the outpatient clinic is as effective and safe as the radiologically guided technique administered in the operating roo

    Augmented reality provides an interactive learning medium for students to investigate abstract mathematical concepts in the real environment as well as contributes remarkable results in understanding concepts and supports enjoyment in the learning environment. Due to providing unique and novel opportunities in the learning environment and the sparseness of related studies about determining students' attitudes regarding AR-based mathematics; in this study, an attitude scale was developed. Its validity and reliability studies were conducted. Six hundred and thirteen middle school students participated in the study. Students' experiences and opinions regarding AR-supported mathematics education were investigated and an item pool for the scale was formed through content analysis of these opinions. To ensure construct validity, exploratory factor analysis was conducted. To determine the representative power of the factors formed, confirmatory factor analysis was performed. It is seen that the scale developed according to the results of the study is a valid and reliable measurement tool
