Impact Modes and Effects Analysis for the Namoi subregion
## **Abstract** \n\nThis dataset and its metadata statement were created within the Bioregional Assessment Programme based on expert elicitation. There are no source datasets used, it was derived by expert opinion.\n\n\n\nIn this dataset we describe the application of Impact Modes and Effects Analysis (IMEA) to the hazards associated with coal seam gas and coal mining operations in the Namoi subregion. Attention is restricted to water mediated hazards, i.e. hazards that might lead directly or indirectly to impacts on groundwater or surface water, and the assets that depend on them. All other hazards, for example the effects of air quality, are explicitly excluded. Full details of the hazard analysis process are described in http://data.bioregionalassessments.gov.au/submethodology/M11\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nFull details of the hazard analysis process are described in http://data.bioregionalassessments.gov.au/submethodology/M11\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\nBioregional Assessment Programme (2015) Impact Modes and Effects Analysis for the Namoi subregion. Namoi bore analysis rasters
## **Abstract** \n\nThe dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from multiple source datasets. The source datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.\n\n\n\nThis resource contains raster datasets created using ArcGIS to analyse groundwater levels in the Namoi subregion.\n\n## **Purpose** \n\nThese data layers were created in ArcGIS as part of the analysis to investigate surface water - groundwater connectivity in the Namoi subregion. The data layers provide several of the figures presented in the Namoi 2.1.5\tSurface water - groundwater interactions report.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nExtracted points inside Namoi subregion boundary. Converted bore and pipe values to Hydrocode format, changed heading of 'Value' column to 'Waterlevel' and removed unnecessary columns then joined to Updated_NSW_GroundWaterLevel_data_analysis_v01\\NGIS_NSW_Bore_Join_Hydmeas_unique_bores.shp clipped to only include those bores within the Namoi subregion.\n\nSelected only those bores with sample dates between >=26/4/2012 and <31/7/2012. Then removed 4 gauges due to anomalous ref_pt_height values or WaterElev values higher than Land_Elev values.\n\nThen added new columns of calculations:\n\nWaterElev = TsRefElev - Water_Leve\n\nDepthWater = WaterElev - Ref_pt_height\n\nRef_pt_height = TsRefElev - LandElev\n\n\n\nAlternatively - Selected only those bores with sample dates between >=1/5/2006 and <1/7/2006\n\n\n\n2012_Wat_Elev - This raster was created by interpolating Water_Elev field points from HydmeasJune2012_only.shp, using Spatial Analyst - Topo to Raster tool. And using the alluvium boundary (NAM_113_Aquifer1_NamoiAlluviums.shp) as a boundary input source.\n\n\n\n12_dw_olp_enf - Select out only those bores that are in both source files.\n\nThen using depthwater in Topo to Raster, with alluvium as the boundary, ENFORCE field chosen, and using only those bores present in 2012 and 2006 dataset.\n\n\n\n2012dw1km_alu - Clipped the 'watercourselines' layer to the Namoi Subregion, then selected 'Major' water courses only. Then used the Geoprocessing 'Buffer' tool to create a polygon delineating an area 1km around all the major streams in the Namoi subregion.\n\nselected points from HydmeasJune2012_only.shp that were within 1km of features the WatercourseLines then used the selected points and the 1km buffer around the major water courses and the Topo to Raster tool in Spatial analyst to create the raster. \n\nThen used the alluvium boundary to truncate the raster, to limit to the area of interest.\n\n\n\n12_minus_06 - Select out bores from the 2006 dataset that are also in the 2012 dataset. Then create a raster using depth_water in topo to raster, with ENFORCE field chosen to remove sinks, and alluvium as boundary. Then, using Map Algebra - Raster Calculator, subtract the raster just created from 12_dw_olp_enf\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\nBioregional Assessment Programme (2017) Namoi bore analysis rasters. Carmichael Coal Mine and Rail Project Environmental Impact Statement
## **Abstract** \n\nThis dataset was supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and is presented here as originally supplied. Metadata was not provided and has been compiled by the Bioregional Assessment Programme based on known details at the time of acquisition.\n\n\n\nThis dataset contains reports and appendices related to the EIS for the Carmichael Coal Mine and Rail Project. Tables, figures and maps have been extracted from these reports to produce supplementary datasets.\n\n\n\nThis report evaluates the potential impacts of the Carmichael Coal Mine and Rail project (the project). It has been prepared pursuant to section 35 of the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 (Qld) (SDPWO Act). \n\n\n\nThe proponent, Adani Mining Pty Ltd, proposes to construct a 60 million tonnes per annum open-cut and underground greenfield coal mine and a 189 kilometre (km) greenfield rail line connecting the mine to the existing Goonyella and Newlands rail system south of Moranbah. The mine is located in the Galilee Basin and is situated within the Isaac Regional Council (IRC) Local Government Area.\n\n\n\nThe project, which will require A929.6 million annually to the Mackay Region's Gross Regional Product and $2.97 billion annually to the Queensland economy.\n\n\n\nThe project is expected to create an estimated 2475 jobs during the construction phase and 3920 jobs during the operational phase. It contributes to a key Queensland Government objective of realising the timely development of the Galilee Basin, while ensuring net community benefits and environmental objectives are maximised.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nIndividual reports within this dataset were downloaded from the QLD Government Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning website. \n\n\n\nhttp://www.dsdip.qld.gov.au/assessments-and-approvals/\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\n"Queensland Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning" (2014) Carmichael Coal Mine and Rail Project Environmental Impact Statement. GABATLAS 24 hydraulic connectivity at GAB_base
## **Abstract** \n\nThis dataset and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied.\n\n\n\nThe regional scale hydraulic interconnection across the base of the Great Artesian Basin data categorises the hydraulic nature of the base the GAB, through properties of rocks in direct contact below and above the base of the GAB. It indicates areas of potential connectivity between aquifers in older basins and the aquifers in the GAB sequence. \n\n\n\nThere are two data layers described as;\n\n\n\nA: Hydrogeological basement units in contact with the base of the Great Artesian Basin - representing a regional interpretation of basement stratigraphic units as hydrostratigraphic units, in contact with the base of the Jurassic-Cretaceous sequence of the GAB\n\n\n\nB: Base Great Artesian Basin hydrogeological units directly overlying hydrogeological basement - representing a regional interpretation of the of the Jurassic-Cretaceous stratigraphic units at the base of the GAB, as hydrostratigraphic units.\n\n\n\nBoth represent coverages of hydraulic character, with qualitative categories from Aquiclude, through Tight Aquitard, Leaky Aquitard, to Partial Aquifer and Aquifer.\n\n\n\nThis dataset and associated metadata can be obtained from www.ga.gov.au, using catalogue number 81685.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nSOURCE DATA: \n\nData was obtained from a variety of sources, as listed below:\n\n\n\n1.\tRansley TR and Smerdon BD (eds) (2012) Hydrostratigraphy, hydrogeology and system conceptualisation of the Great Artesian Basin. A technical report to the Australian Government from the CSIRO Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment. Geoscience Australia, Canberra, Australia.\n\n3.\tUnpublished Arkaringa and Pedirka basin boundary data supplied by South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (Pers. Comm. Daniel Wohling 2014)\n\n\n\nMETHOD:\n\nData layer 'A' (Hydrogeological basement units in contact with the base of the Great Artesian Basin) is modified from Ransley & Smerdon (2012), Figure 5.8 (12-6563-45), using data from Stewart et.al (2013) and unpublished, revised Arkaringa and Pedirka basin boundaries, supplied by the South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources. \n\n\n\nPolygons representing basement units in contact with base of the Great Artesian Basin. Compiled and used in conjunction with Polygons of Great Artesian Basin units directly overlying hydrogeological basement to represent the hydraulic interconnection between the Great Artesian Basin and basement units.\n\n\n\nData Layer 'B' (Base Great Artesian Basin hydrogeological units directly overlying hydrogeological basement) is a composite dataset derived from the following aquifer and aquitard extent layers in the data sources listed below.\n\n\n\n1.\tPaleogene-Neogene (Geocat No. 81675)\n\n2.\tWinton-Mackunda (Geocat No. 81676)\n\n3.\tRolling Downs (Geocat No. 81677)\n\n4.\tCadna-owie Hooray (Geocat No. 81678)\n\n5.\tWestbourne (Geocat No. 81679)\n\n6.\tAdori-Springbok (Geocat No. 81680)\n\n7.\tBirkhead-Walloon (Geocat No. 81681)\n\n8.\tHutton (Geocat No. 81682)\n\n9.\tEvergreen-Poolowanna (Geocat No. 81683)\n\n10.\tPrecipice (Geocat No. 81684)\n\n\n\nThe Aquifer and Aquitard extents were combined and the area of contact with the base of the GAB was derived for each formation extent layer;\n\n\n\nThis data set is the Aquifer/Aquitard layers at the bottom of the GAB - those in contact with the underlying basins. This data therefore provides information about the hydrological connectivity between the GAB and the basins beneath. The attribute table has been populated with aquifer properties which can be used to map the distribution. Some of the main Aquifers have been split based on the spatial change in aquifer properties.\n\n\n\nQAQC:\n\nData has undergone a QAQC verification process in order to capture and repair attribute and geometric errors. \n\n\n\nSOFTWARE:\n\nAll modifications/edits and geoprocessing were performed using ESRI ArcGIS 10 software.\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\nGeoscience Australia (2014) GABATLAS 24 hydraulic connectivity at GAB_base. The dataset consists of a spreadsheet which includes field sampling data (e.g. water temperature, pH, EC, DO, alkalinity, water level and aquifer formations), sampling laboratory data (e..g. major ions, trace metals and isotopes) and desktop interpreted data (e.g. aquifer formations). \n\n\n\nData has been filtered based on it's hydrochemical validity following a 'Charged Balance Equation' (CBE) test where only those samples which balanced to +/- 10% were retained.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThe spreadsheet was compiled from data sourced from the following locations:\n\nCoulmn:\n\nA - Row ID: Manually added as an index\n\nB - RN: QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'REGISTRATION', Field 'RN'\n\nC - Old bore ID: QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'REGISTRATION', Field 'ORIG_NAME_NO'\n\nD - Dec lat: QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60\t) - Table 'REGISTRATION', Field 'GIS_LAT'\n\nE - Dec long: QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'REGISTRATION', Field 'GIS_LNG'\n\nF - Water level measure data: QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'WATER_LEVELS', Field 'RDATE'\n\nG - Most Recent SWL: QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'WATER_LEVELS', Field 'MEASURMENT'\n\nH - Uncorrected RWL: 1 second DEM value (Geoscience Australia, 1 second SRTM Digital Elevation Model (DEM) - GUID: 9a9284b6-eb45-4a13-97d0-91bf25f1187b) minus 'Most Recent SWL' (column G) value\n\nI - Formation from bore log: Multiple sources (and GIS interpretation using location and screen depth) including:\n\n - QLD Dept of Natural Resources and Mines, Groundwater Entitlements linked to bores v3 20140312 (GUID: 68bbd3fb-6e2a-4088-a3dd-55cc44c2f0d6) - Table 'QLD GW Licences - Original - Final - v3.xls', Tab 'All Data', Field - 'WaterCodeSourcesList'\n\n - QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Tables include: 'STRATIGRAPHY', 'AQUIFER' and 'MONITORING BORES'\n\n - RPS Galilee Hydrogeological Investigations - Appendix tables B to F (original) (GUID: bfe35a54-7a71-45ec-b20e-f3bfcc8999ef) - Table 'Append B to F_ Dec2012.xlsx', Tab 'Table E-1', Field 'Identified aquifer'\n\n - Carmichael Coal Mine and Rail Project Environmental Impact Statement (GUID: 2a595f74-aae6-4d83-9cd7-1459247d751a)\n\nJ - Formation Name Source: Name of source material used to decide aquifer formation for each sample/bore\n\nK - Location Group: Broad location category from GIS location\n\nL - Chem Formation Group: Standardised aquifer formation name to be used during analysis\n\nM - Sample date: QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'WATER ANALYSIS', Field 'RDATE'\n\nN to P - Interpretation of screen and bore depths from QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'CASING', Fields 'MATERIAL', 'TOP', 'BOTTOM'\n\nQ to AC - QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'WATER ANALYSIS'\n\nAD to AK - QLD Department of Natural Resources and Mining Groundwater Database Extract 20131111 (GUID: 827e70b3-29d5-4e89-8d59-a93bc499de60) - Table 'FIELD WATER QUALITY'\n\nAL to AW - Cation and anion calculation from Q to AC data\n\nAX to AZ - Charged Balance Equations (CBE) for QA and QC of data.
