    ## **Abstract** \n\nThe dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme. This dataset was derived from GEODATA TOPO 250k Series 3 and Geofabric Surface Cartography, v2.1, specifically the Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric (AHGF) catchments. You can find a link to the parent datasets in the Lineage Field in this metadata statement. The History Field in this metadata statement describes how this dataset was derived. \n\n\n\nThe data are a shapefile containing fourteen river catchments within and impinging on the Hunter subregion. The dataset was created by aggregating Geofabric AHGF catchments.     ## **Abstract** \n\nThe dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from the national SILO data sets of climate station records. The parent dataset(s) is identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.\n\n\n\nGippsland Product 2-1 Climate Data Geodatabase v01 \n\nThis geodatabase contains the climate data used in the Gippsland Basin bioregion. The geodatabase includes the following datasets (average daily values): climate zones, evaporation, radiation, rainfall, evapotranspiration, maximum temperature and minimum temperature.\n\n## **Purpose** \n\nTo spatially represent interpolated mean annual rainfall (mm/yr) for the period 1957-2012- in Gippsland\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThe data was extracted from the national SILO data sets for 199 climate stations in the Gippsland region (see Lineage). The data was produced using ANUClim software (Hutchinson, 2001), using the interpolation methods discussed in Jeffery et al., 2001.\n\n\n\nFor a given climate station daily climate data is a combination of original measurements and rectified data to remove any gaps in the record using interpolation methods discussed in Jeffery et al.     ## **Abstract** \n\nThis data and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are represented here as originally supplied.\n\n\n\nFisheries oriented inventory that consists of tabular information and an atlas of estuarine wetlands describing 133 estuaries and embayments along the NSW (Australia) coast. (VIS_ID 2224; ANZLIC: ANZNS0364000065)\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThis data and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are represented here as originally supplied.\n\n\n\nLineage: Aerial photographs from the late 1970's and early 1980's of varying scales were used to map mangrove, saltmarsh and seagrass in 133 estuaries along the NSW coast. Vegetation boundaries drawn onto photographs were checked by field surveys undertaken from 1981-1984. The information was then transferred onto base maps produced from CMA 1:25 000 topographic maps using a zoom transferscope. Water area and the area of each vegetation type calculated using the dot grid methods.     ## **Abstract** \n\nThis dataset and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied. \n\n\n\nA more recent extract of the GMS is now available (Oct 2013). \n\n\n\nIn addition to monitoring data gathered via the State Observation Bore Network, groundwater information is held in relation to approximately 200,000 boreholes throughout Victoria on the Groundwater Management System (GMS). Part 1 in the title refers to the Access database version. This data is also available in csv and xls files. These have not been included. \n\n\n\nThe GMS contains data from a wide variety of sources including the former Rural Water Corporation, the Minerals and Energy Department (now part of the Department of Primary Industries), other Government Departments, industry and the community.\n\n\n\nThe GMS extract has been imported into MS Access database. There are 29 individual tables within the database. For the purpose of IPBA, the most useful tables are "gms_chemistry" tables 2 to 9, and gms_wl_all which contains all of the water level readings. Other relevant information is stored in the National Groundwater Information System.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nUp until the mid 1980s the bore locations were plotted on mapsheets and the individual bore records kept in hardcopy. From the mid 1980s onwards a digital database, compiled from the existing records of all Government bores and private bores, was progressively assembled on mainframe computers. From 1969, a permit to drill groundwater bores was required, and the information captured by the licensing process was added to the database. This included groundwater investigation or observation bores drilled by other government agencies such as the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission (SRWSC) and the Soil Conservation Authority (SCA) and subsequent equivalents, although these agencies also kept their own bore databases. \n\n\n\nFollowing the split of the groundwater group from the GSV in mid 1988, the State bore database was duplicated. One copy was merged with several Rural Water Corporation (RWC) databases to become the Victorian Groundwater Data Base (VGDB), the precursor to the current Groundwater Management System (GMS) run by the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE). The other copy remained with the GSV and was developed into the Geological Exploration and Development Information System (GEDIS), which included the mineral exploration bores. Data exchange was attempted for a few years following the split, but ultimately the databases grew into quite separate entities.     ## **Abstract** \n\nThis dataset and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied:\n\n\n\nLower Hunter Spotted Gum Forest (LHSGIF) EEC mapping covering Cessnock, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Newcastle and Wyong LGAs undertaken by Stephen Bell in 2010. He notes that the layer is incomplete because much of the LHSGIF is on private or coal land where access is restricted. Only if contracts are performed on these lands will updates occur. The layer includes various forms of LHSGIF as per the data analysis done for the Cessnock-Kurri project. VIS_ID 2319\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThere are 6 fields in the attribute table: >Map_Status - draft mapping date >Code - the current working veg community code (this will probably change to a more streamlined order for the final) >Veg_Name - the current working veg community names, some may change to make it more streamlined >LGA - the relevant LGA for each polygon >Source - where the mapping is sourced from, this project or previous projects etc >Accuracy - a 4 class system to provide information on expected accuracy. Class 1 = ground data; Class 2 = previous mapping with modifications; Class 3 = previous mapping with no modifications; Class 4 = no data (ie: predicted). Data capture progress (notes from S. Bell): Maitland LGA - there are several patches that I have not got to yet and hence mapping is based on Lisa Hills LGA mapping from 2006. Most of this area is coded as 17 (undefined) until I can work out the boundaries of the variants - they will probably mostly turn out to be variant 17a(i) in the east, but 18h in the west. Wyong LGA - I also found that the delineation of LHSGIF for much of the Wyong LGA mapping is outdated and confused, so I will need to revisit some of those patches to clarify things - in the 2002 LGA mapping, I had lumped all spotted gum - ironbark forests together, but now I need to extract those areas with affinities to LHSGIF. Much of this is completed, but there are a few patches still remaining. Cessnock LGA - Over in the west of Cessnock LGA, there is this probable new species aff fibrosa, and I have not yet determined where its habitat fits into the LHSGIF Mothership, so it is coded simply as 17 for now. Newcastle and Lake Macquarie LGAs - these are all but completed now, just a couple of small patches left to inspect. A couple of other points: - for this draft I've split up the variants as best I can, but the final cuts will need to await the full data analysis. For example, I've used Wallis Creek as the split between the 'true' LHSGIF and the Hinterland LHSGIF, as it is around here that the grass composition changes from Themeda australis/ Joycea pallida in the east to Entolasia stricta/ Aristida vagans to the west. These species seem to be driving the splits in the data analysis. Further up the valley (NW of Cessnock), Aristida ramosa/ Aristida vagans takes over from Entolasia stricta. - I've included the various forms of LHSGIF as per the data analysis done for the Cessnock-Kurri project a couple of years ago. It is possible that some of these forms will prove themselves to be more closely related to Central Hunter communities, if and when a new analysis is done to include data from the Central-Upper Hunter. I'm not sure, for example, if the form of LHSGIF in the Cessnock report where Euc moluccana is dominant in the canopy over an understorey of essentially LHSGIF species should remain as part of the EEC or not - if you take the EEC definition literally then you would say that it should be excluded because Euc fibrosa and Cor maculata are not the important canopy species. - In addition, I've also added in unit 18h from the Cessnock-Kurri project. This is the one dominated by Euc fibrosa and Cor maculata, and the latest data analyses are showing that this should be considered part of LHSGIF. I know it's now part of the Central Hunter EEC, but it is really just a dryer form of whats present in Cessnock, as the more coastal Lake Macquarie form is a wetter form of what's in Cessnock. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.\n\n## **Purpose** \n\nProvides authoritative boundaries for defining bioregions and subregions to be reported on for the Bioregional Assessments\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThis dataset contains two spatial shapefiles: "ba_bioregion_alb_gda94_v04.shp" and "ba_subregion_alb_gda94_v04.shp". \n\nThe bioregion shapefile is a copy of the previous version's (Bioregional Assessment Areas v03) bioregions, with the following changes. \n\n\n\nThe three subregions of the previous Southern Sydney bioregion (WOL, HAW & GEO) have been merged to form one bioregion which is now called the 'Sydney Basin bioregion' (SYD). The overall boundary of the bioregion has not changed from version 3. This change is result of programme board meeting decision on 8 October 2014.\n\n\n\nThe Gippsland Basin bioregion boundary changed per instructions from the Gippsland project leader to match the description below. This change was agreed upon in decision entry DEC114 at https://govdex.gov.au/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?title=Decision+Register&spaceKey=BRAT.\n\n\n\nNorthern boundary: The project's Victorian partners have identified in the hydrogeological system conceptualisation that the prevailing control on development impacts to water resources along the northern boundary is geohydrologically constrained, i.e. it is highly unlikely that significant impacts will propagate into the Palaeozoic bedrock that forms the basement to the Gippsland Basin. Surface geology is used to identify the northern bounds of the surficial aquifers of the Haunted Hills Gravel and the Sale Group which overlie and conceal the coal bearing formations of the Gippsland Basin (differentiation of Tertiary-Recent geology from older geology along the proposed redefined bioregion boundary). Topographic elevation along this northern boundary rapidly increases, with subsequent changes in hydraulic gradient and likely significant reductions in flow path lengths. The northern boundary delineates the transition from local scale groundwater flow systems (to the north of this boundary) and intermediate to regional scale flow systems (south of this boundary). This differs from the PAE which accounts for an additional 10 km buffer to the north.\n\n\n\nWestern boundary: is a surface water and groundwater flow divide. Surface water on the western side of this boundary drains towards Western Port, which appears to have little resource potential or exploration interest. Based on this scientific rationale and conceptualisation, the proposed redefined boundary adheres to the conceptual/numerical groundwater model boundaries.\n\n\n\nSouthern/coastal boundary: clips the southern boundary to the coastline as the BAs are investigating impacts from onshore impacts of Coal and CSG development. The WSS/BA model boundary extends offshore to account for petroleum industry abstractions offshore. It is important to note, the proposed redefined bioregion boundary explicitly includes the Gippsland Lakes and is clipped to the national 1.25M national topography coastline.\n\n\n\nEastern boundary: has a similar rationale as the northern boundary, prospectivity for Coal/CSG development geologically diminishes further east of the Gippsland lakes.\n\n\n\nThere has been no changes made to any of the other bioregion or subregion boundaries between version 3 and version 4.\n\n## **Dataset Citation** \n\nBioregional Assessment Programme (2014) Bioregional Assessment areas v04.     ## **Abstract** \n\nThis dataset and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied.\n\nDefines the area in the Pedirka Basin in which coal seams have been intersected during mineral/petroleum exploration drilling.\n\n## **Purpose** \n\nUsed to define the area within the Pedirka Basin in which coal occurrence is most probable.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThe underlying data used to define the coal occurrence polygon was sourced from open file oil/gas/mineral exploration well completion and company reports.
