A deep learning approach to permanent tooth germ detection on pediatric panoramic radiographs
Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the performance of a deep learning system for permanent tooth germ
detection on pediatric panoramic radiographs.
Materials and Methods: In total, 4518 anonymized panoramic radiographs of children between 5 and 13 years of
age were collected. YOLOv4, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based object detection model, was used to
automatically detect permanent tooth germs. Panoramic images of children processed in LabelImg were trained and
tested in the YOLOv4 algorithm. True-positive, false-positive, and false-negative rates were calculated. A confusion
matrix was used to evaluate the performance of the model.
Results: The YOLOv4 model, which detected permanent tooth germs on pediatric panoramic radiographs, provided
an average precision value of 94.16% and an F1 value of 0.90, indicating a high level of significance. The average
YOLOv4 inference time was 90 ms.
Conclusion: The detection of permanent tooth germs on pediatric panoramic X-rays using a deep learning-based
approach may facilitate the early diagnosis of tooth deficiency or supernumerary teeth and help dental practitioners
find more accurate treatment options while saving time and effort.(Imaging Sci Dent 2022; 52: 275-81
Efficacy of antibody response following the vaccination of SARS-CoV-2 infected and noninfected healthcare workers by two-dose inactive vaccine against COVID-19
Sinovac is an inactive vaccine produced against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) for almost a year. No sufficient information is available concerning pro-vaccine immunogenicity. We investigated the efficacy of antibody response following vaccination of SARS-CoV-2-infected and noninfected healthcare workers by a two-dose inactive vaccine against COVID-19. The immunogenicity acquired on the 27th day and 42nd day after the first dose of vaccine (corresponding to Day 14 after the second dose) were compared by the demographics, immunosuppression, comorbidities, postvaccination reaction, and IgG levels of 120 subjects. The overall rate of second postvaccine seropositivity was 97.5% (n = 117) of all individuals, and 44 of these were seropositive after the first dose. The percentage of having a previous COVID-19 (59.1%) among seropositive individuals before 2nd vaccination was significantly higher than those of seropositive individuals (10.96%) after second vaccination (p < 0.0001). In our study, 35 healthcare workers stated that they had previously had a COVID-19 infection. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody responses in people infected with SARS-CoV-2 follow a classical pattern, with a rapid increase within the first 3 weeks after the appearance of symptoms. Although the titers decreased thereafter, the ability to detect anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies supports the view that the majority of subjects previously screened as positive for virus remain intact with confirmed neutralizing activity for up to 6 months

hipokondriyal ağrı ve yüksek ateş şikayeti ile acil servise başvurdu. Klinik muayene ile üriner sistem
enfeksiyonu tanısı konuldu. Ultrason muayenesinde sol böbrek görülmedi. Bilgisayarlı tomografi çekildi ve mesaneye bağlı megaüreter ve üreter distalinde ektopik üreterosel saptandı.It was reported in literature that incidence of the congenital kidney and urinary tract anomalies is 4 in 1000

Cross-cultural adaptation, reliability, and validity of the Turkish Adult Sensory Processing Scale
Introduction Sensory processing is crucial to adaptive behavioural responses in occupational therapy. Nevertheless, information on sensory processing in adults is limited. The Adult Sensory Processing Scale (ASPS) measures behavioural responses indicative of sensory processing in different sensory systems. The study aimed to examine the cultural adaptation, reliability and validity of the ASPS-Turkish (ASPS-T). Methods The ASPS-T was administered to 405 individuals, who were aged 18 to 64 (38.5 +/- 11.4) years. The cross-cultural adaptation and translation procedures were conducted following Beaton's guidelines. Internal consistency was examined by Cronbach's alpha. Criterion-related validity of the ASPS was determined by the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile using Construct validity and was examined by confirmatory factor analysis using AMOS. Results The study included 405 participants (271 female and 134 male). Exploratory factor analysis with varimax rotation determined 11 factors with 55.15% total variance. In confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), model fit indices showed an acceptable fit. The reliability of the scale was 0.834, and test-retest reliability changed from 0.94 to 0.99, illustrating high internal consistency and excellent reliability of the scale. Conclusions The ASPS-T is reliable and valid for analysing sensory processing patterns of adults in the Turkish population
KORPUS KALLOZUMUN SİTOTOKSİK LEZYONLARI: MANYETİK REZONANS GÖRÜNTÜLEME BULGULARI VE ETİYOLOJİK FAKTÖRLER
Objective: Cytotoxic lesions of the corpus callosum (CLOCCs) are usually detected as a diffusion restriction in the splenium of the corpus callosum. They are rare secondary radiological findings associated with various clinical entities. The aim of this study is to evaluate the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) find-ings and underlying clinical factors of cases with CLOCCs. Materials andMethods: The MRI images of 850 patients who were admitted to the emergency services between January 2017 and March 2021 with encephalopathy and epilepsy-like neuro-logical complaints were scanned retrospectively. Twenty nine patients (20 men, 9 women) with CLOCCs were included in the study. Their radiological and clinical findings were evaluated.Results: The mean age was calculated as 26.4 years (5-72 years). The patients had neurological symptoms such as dysarthria, con -fusion, ataxia, syncope, epileptic seizure, and headache. Lesions were developed secondary to various infections in 20 (68.9%) patients. Diabetic decompensation was found in three patients and uremic decompensation in one patient. In the remaining patients, subarachnoid hemorrhage, asthma attack, trauma, high-dose lithium-levetiracetam intake and anti-epileptic drug withdrawal were responsible. Twenty patients had MRI control. In 16 (80%) patients, MRI findings returned to normal between 6 days and 8 months (median 30, Mean 53.8 days). One of the other 4 patients had partial regression, and 3 patients recovered with sequelae gliosis.Conclusion: CLOCCs are nonspecific MRI findings associated with a broad underlying clinical spectrum. They are usually reversible. Determination of the underlying clinical etiology, avoidance of an ischemic stroke and tumor-like misdiagnoses are important for appropriate patient management.Amaç: Korpus kallozumun sitotoksik lezyonları (KKSL) genellikle
korpus kallozum spleniumunda diffüzyon kısıtlılığı olarak saptanan farklı birçok klinik durum ile ilişkilendirilmiş nadir bir radyolojik bulgudur. Çalışmamızın amacı kliniğimizde manyetik rezonans
görüntülemesinde (MRG) KKSL saptanan olguların radyolojik ve
klinik bulgularını incelemek ve literatür eşliğinde değerlendirmektir.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Ocak 2017 – Mart 2021 tarihleri arasında erişkin ve pediatri acil servislerine ensefalopati ve epilepsi benzeri
nörolojik şikayetler ile başvuran, diffüzyon veya kraniyal MRG çekilmiş yaklaşık 850 hastanın görüntülemeleri retrospektif olarak
tarandı. KKSL saptanan 29 hasta (20 erkek, 9 kadın) çalışmaya
dahil edilerek radyolojik ve klinik bulguları değerlendirildi.
Bulgular: Yaş ortalaması 26,4 yıl (5-72 yıl) olarak hesaplandı. Hastalarda dizartri, bilinç bulanıklığı, ataksi, senkop, epileptik nöbet,
baş ağrısı gibi nörolojik semptomlar mevcuttu. Hastalardan 20
(%68,9) tanesinde çeşitli enfeksiyonların merkezi sinir sisteminine direkt veya indirekt etkisi ile lezyonların geliştiği görüldü. Üç
hastada diyabetik, bir hastada üremiye bağlı metabolik dekompansasyon saptanmıştır. Diğer 5 hastada; subaraknoid hemoraji,
astım atağı, travma, yüksek doz lityum - levetirasetam alımı ve
antiepileptik ilaç çekilmesi gibi etyolojik faktörlere bağlı geliştiği
değerlendirildi. Yirmi hastada MR kontrolü bulunmaktaydı. 16(%80) hastada bulgular 6 gün ile 8 ay arasında normale dönmüştür (Median 30, Ortalama 53,8 gün). Diğer 4 hastadan birinde
parsiyel regresyon olduğu, 3 hastada sekel gliozis ile iyileştiği
izlendi.
Sonuç: Kallozal sitotoksik lezyonlar altta yatan geniş bir klinik
spektrum ile ilişkili nonspesifik kranial MRG bulgularıdır. Genellikle geri dönüşümlüdür. Radyolojik olarak tanınmaları, altta yatan klinik etiyolojinin saptanması, iskemik inme ve tümör benzeri
yanlış tanılardan kaçınılması, uygun hasta yönetimi için önemlidir
The effect of discharge training on quality of life, self-efficacy and reintegration to normal living in stroke patients and their informal caregivers: A randomized controlled trial
Background & Objectives: This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of discharge training on quality of life and self-efficacy in stroke patients and their informal caregivers; and reintegration to normal living in patients only. Methods: In this randomized, controlled trial, 59 patients and their caregivers were randomly allocated to receive discharge with education (via a webpage or booklet) or a standard of care discharge without intervention (i.e. an additional training). The 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12), the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) were applied to patients and caregivers and the Reintegration to Normal Living Index (RNLI) were applied to patients only, before discharge and 3 months after discharge. Results: It was found that, although the quality of life improved by the trainings in the patient intervention groups, compared with the control group (p0.05). Both self-efficacy and quality of life of the caregivers improved or maintained by the interventions, compared with the controls (p0.05). Lastly, the impact of discharge trainings on reintegration to normal living which was assessed in the patients only, was found to be limited. Conclusion: Although discharge training improved the quality of life in both patients and informal caregivers, its effect on self-efficacy in both populations and reintegration to normal living in patients was found to be limited
Medroxyprogesterone acetate improves propionic acid-induced autism rat model and magnetic resonance spectroscopic correlation
The protective effect of medroxyprogesterone acetate on propionic acid induced autism in rats was evaluated. For this purpose, 30 rats were divided into three groups. The significant difference in the levels of IL-17 (p<0.05), IL 2 (p<0.05), and TNF-?? (p<0.05), lactate (p<0.05), and nerve growth factor (p<0.05) were found in the medroxyprogesterone-treated group by biochemical analysis. In histopathological examination, the medroxyprogesteronetreated group revealed significant improvement in neural body degeneration, neural count, and dysmorphological changes in both CA1 and CA3 regions. Immunohistochemical examination revealed improvement in glial activity with glial fibrillar acidic protein and morphological changes in Purkinje cells. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy showed an improvement in the level of lactate duplets in the medroxyprogesterone-treated group. To our knowledge, this is the first study, to evaluate the protective effect of medroxyprogesterone on propionic acid-induced autism in rats
Evaluation of Oxidative System Parameters in Alzheimer's Disease Before Medical Treatment
Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common reason for dementia and is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in the aging population. A crucial component of AD is the brain's sensitivity to oxidative stress. We aimed to determine the oxidative load of patients with AD who had just been diagnosed and had not yet begun medical treatment.Methods: To assess oxidative load before drug administration, we compared the levels of serum total antioxidant (TAS), oxidant status (TOS), paraoxonase (PON1), arylesterase (ARES), total thiol (THIOL) levels in patients just diagnosed with AD (n = 41) and control (n = 45) with the totally 86 individuals. AD and control groups oxidative stress index (OSI) ratio was calculated too.Results: There was a statistically significant difference between the AD and control groups for mean TAS, TOS, and OSI levels with a 95% confidence level (pTAS = 0.001, pTOS = 0.005, pOSI = 0.001). There was not a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of mean PON1, ARES, and THIOL values. Significantly negative and positive correlations were found for the interested parameters in both groups.Conclusion: The increase in antioxidative capacity in patients with AD may be related to ARES supported by TAS, and THIOL levels suggest, that those protein oxidation mechanisms are effective in the progress of AD disease before medication.Copyright (c) 2022, Taiwan Society of Geriatric Emergency & Critical Care Medicine
Does total knee arthroplasty affect overactive bladder symptoms in female patients?
Introduction and hypothesis In the current study we hypothesized that total knee arthroplasty might improve the overactive bladder symptoms by providing pain relief and improving physical function. Methods One hundred patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty were preoperatively evaluated for overactive bladder and 47 patients that met inclusion criteria were included in this study. All the patients included in the study were assessed both preoperatively and at the 3rd month postoperatively using the Overactive Bladder-Validated 8 (OAB-V8) questionnaire for overactive bladder symptoms, the Oxford Knee Score (OKS) for pain and physical function, and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) for physical activity. Results The mean age of the patients was 65.4 +/- 7 (56-83) years. The OAB-V8, OKS and IPAQ-SF scores significantly improved at the 3rd month postoperatively compared with the initial assessment. All the OAB-V8 domains, namely, frequency, urgency, nocturia, and urgency urinary incontinence, significantly improved following total knee arthroplasty. Conclusions Our results showed that following total knee arthroplasty, overactive bladder questionnaire scores significantly improved at the 3rd month postoperatively
Anthropometric profiles of young rhytmic gymnastic athlestes according to their parental nutritional behavior
Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that is supported by strength, speed and endurance with an emphasis on flexibility and coordination. It is assumed that low fat percentage, normal height, low body weight, and elegant and thin structure influence the performance of the athletes because it provides an aesthetically advantage in this sports branch. The aim of the study was to reveal the anthropometric properties in rhythmic gymnastics athletes, and to examine the changes and relationships of these parameters according to their parents' diet. A questionnaire with socio-demographic information, Parental Feeding Style Questionnaire, was used to gather data. The data on children's BMI, waist circumference and upper middle arm circumference were also included; these measurements were all taken by the same researcher. It was determined that the scores obtained from the parent feeding style scale differed according to the waist circumference of the child (p <0.05). It can be concluded that the scores obtained from the parent feeding style scale and its sub-dimensions of promoting to eat /encouraging feeding and instrumental feeding differ according to the child's upper middle arm circumference (p <0.05). As a result of the research, some sociodemographic and anthropometric features seem to affect the parents' feeding style of their children. The results obtained from this study can be used as a guide when creating forward-looking nutrition models for children engaged in rhythmic gymnastics, and planning the nutritional education for their parents
