The low reading interest among elementary school students remains a major concern in the field of education. One approach believed to help improve reading interest is the use of illustrations in picture books. This study aims to determine whether picture book illustrations play a role in enhancing the reading interest of upper elementary school students in Binjai City. The study involved 161 students selected through purposive sampling. The quality of illustrations was assessed using a rating rubric, while reading interest was measured using a reading interest scale. Descriptive analysis results showed that the illustrations in the books were rated as good, and most students had a high level of reading interest. However, the Spearman correlation test revealed no significant relationship between illustrations and reading interest. The correlation coefficient (r = 0.096) indicated a very weak relationship, and the significance value (p = 0.228; p > 0.05) suggested that the relationship was not statistically strong. Thus, picture book illustrations did not play a significant role in increasing students' reading interest.131 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

The rapid development of information technology over the past two decades has transformed various aspects of life, including the management and services of libraries. In this context, social media has emerged as an effective and efficient communication tool to reach a wide audience quickly. The University of Medan Area (UMA) Library has utilized social media as a promotional tool and a channel for disseminating relevant information to the academic community, including both students and lecturers. This study aims to explore the use of social media for promotional purposes at the UMA Library and identify the challenges encountered in its implementation. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation. The findings reveal that promotional activities via social media include information on library services, engaging video content, documentation of events, weekly quizzes, and a book donation program. The latter has attracted both students and lecturers, particularly as it supports lecturers’ requirements for academic promotion by obligating them to donate three copies of their authored books or published journals to the library. The promotional strategies align with the AIDA model (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action), aiming to attract attention, stimulate interest, generate desire, and prompt action among users. However, the implementation faces challenges such as limited human resources in videography and content creation. In conclusion, social media promotion at the UMA Library has proven to be fairly effective in capturing attention and increasing library visits, although improvements in human resource management are needed to optimize social media content development.56 PagesKertas Karya Diplom

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a significant role in Indonesia's economy, particularly in the snack food industry such as cracker production. However, production efficiency often remains a challenge. UMKM Kerupuk Cap Udang Kembar is a micro enterprise engaged in the production of snack foods, specifically crackers. Although some machines are used in its production activities, many processes still rely heavily on manual labor and conventional systems. In practice, the production of Palembang crackers at this MSME often falls short of the monthly targets. Observations revealed the presence of non-value-added activities that indicate the existence of waste, which negatively impacts production efficiency. This study aims to identify and reduce waste in the Palembang cracker production process at UMKM Kerupuk Cap Udang Kembar through the application of Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen principles. The methods used include Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Process Activity Mapping (PAM), seven waste analysis, fishbone diagrams, and improvement strategies using the 5W+1H method. The analysis shows that the most dominant type of waste is waiting, particularly at the mixing and drying stations, with an initial Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE) of 44.52%. The root causes of waste stem from imbalanced work distribution, limited machine availability, and dependence on weather conditions. The proposed improvements focus on reevaluating task allocation using a line balancing approach and developing a hybrid drying system that utilizes oven machines. Post-improvement evaluation indicates a significant efficiency increase, with PCE rising to 84.95% and Non-Value-Added (NVA) activities decreasing from 49.88% to 2.88%. These findings demonstrate that the implementation of Lean and Kaizen can effectively enhance efficiency and reduce waste in MSMEs.208 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

Study on Efficiency and Consistency of Adaptive Simple Additive Weighting Method in Stock Selection Decision-Making Using Moving Window Entropy and Monte Carlo Simulation

    No full text
This study aims to examine the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method to enhance its adaptability to the dynamics and uncertainties inherent in stock selection decision making. An adaptive approach is implemented through the integration of dynamic weighting based on Moving Window Entropy (MWE), along with result validation using Monte Carlo Simulation to assess market uncertainty through the probability of positive returns and market risk. Additionally, an adaptive threshold strategy is employed to filter stock alternatives based on the confidence level derived from the simulation outcomes. A case study was conducted on three IDX-listed stocks (BBRI, PTBA, and UNVR) as alternatives, using two observation phases at different time periods to evaluate the method’s performance. The criteria used include return, volatility, liquidity, and stock beta. Validation results demonstrate that the adaptive SAW method shows consistency with the actual rankings in the first phase. In the second phase, the top-ranked stock remained consistent with the actual ranking, although a swap occurred between the second and third positions. These findings suggest the potential presence of model misalignment, indicating the need for further refinement through continued research. Nevertheless, the Adaptive SAW was able to produce the top-ranked stock in both phases, reflecting the general stability of the model. This approach highlights the potential of adaptive SAW as a flexible and context-aware evaluation framework for stock selection amid market uncertainty.89 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

A problem that is currently occurring in developed and developing countries regarding dental and oral health is dental caries. One of the countries where dental caries is often found is our own country, namely Indonesia.1 Behavioral factors that ignore the cleanliness and health of the teeth and mouth are one of the factors causing problems with the teeth and mouth. This is due to a lack of knowledge about the health and maintenance of teeth and mouth. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended the use of traditional medicines, such as plants and herbal plants to maintain public health. One of these medicinal plants is nutmeg. This study used 7 treatment groups, namely; group 1: Nutmeg leaf extract 50%, Group 2: Nutmeg leaf extract (25%, group 3: Nutmeg leaf extract 12.5%, group 4: Nutmeg leaf extract 6.25%, group 5: Nutmeg leaf extract 3.125%, group 6: Dimethyl sulfoxide (Negative Control), group 7: Chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% (Positive Control). Kirby-Baeur, where sterile paper discs were soaked in nutmeg leaf extract and left for 24 hours and the inhibition zone was calculated, then the most effective results were obtained in group 1 with 50% nutmeg leaf extract with an inhibition zone of 16,525 mm.76 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

This study evaluates the performance of the front disc brake system on a Toyota Vios through an experimental comparison of conditions before and after servicing (service brake). Tests were conducted at speeds of 10 km/h, 30 km/h, and 50 km/h using three variations of pedal force (10 N, 12 N, and 15 N). Measured parameters include braking time and distance, hydraulic pressure, caliper clamping force, frictional force, and braking torque. Data were collected on a dry asphalt straight track using a measuring tape, stopwatch, spring scale, and pressure sensors. The results show a significant improvement after servicing: the percentage of stopping distance within the safety category increased from 33.33% to 88.88%. Maximum hydraulic pressure reached 63.7 kPa at 20 N pedal force, generating a clamping force of 115.28 N and braking torque of 21.90 Nm; at 15 N and 12 N, pressures of 47.71 kPa and 38.17 kPa were recorded with torques of 11.48 Nm and 5.25 Nm, respectively. The average stopping time and distance decreased by over 40% after servicing, indicating a linear relationship between pedal force and braking effectiveness. In conclusion, replacing brake pads and servicing the hydraulic system significantly enhanced the Toyota Vios braking performance, making it more responsive and safer. The braking system demonstrated proportional characteristics: the greater the pedal force, the higher the hydraulic pressure, clamping force, frictional force, and braking torque generated. This study recommends further testing with a wider range of speeds and analysis of the influence of vehicle age and maintenance patterns on braking efficiency.72 PagesSkripsi Sarjan
