A Semiotic Study the Oral Tradition of the Penganjak Kuda Sitajur in Kulcapi Accompaniment in Karo Society

    No full text
The study examines the oral tradition of "Penganjak Kuda Sitajur," prevalent in the Karo community, with a focus on the semiotics of narrative and the role of the musical instrument kulcapi as a supporting medium in storytelling. This tradition reflects the cultural, social, and religious values of the Karo community through the heroic tales of the Sitajur character, narrated musically. Using a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods, the research relies on primary data from interviews, observations, and direct documentation in the field. The semiotic theories of Jacques Derrida and Roland Barthes are employed to decode denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings conveyed in this tradition. The findings reveal that "Penganjak Kuda Sitajur" is not merely an oral narrative but a cultural expression imbued with values of character education and local wisdom. The kulcapi plays a vital role in enhancing emotional depth and narrative structure, making this tradition unique among other forms of oral traditions. The study highlights that despite changes in form and medium, the essence and moral messages of the tradition remain preserved and continuously revitalized by the Karo society.193 PagesTesis Magiste

Between Expectations and Reality: A Case Study of the Ria-ria Village Community Affected by Agrarian Conflict through the Lens of Relative Deprivation Theory

    No full text
The National Strategic Program of the Food Estate in North Sumatra, located in Ria-ria Village, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, was initially promised to improve community welfare but instead triggered agrarian conflicts in the form of horizontal disputes, uncertainty over customary land rights, and social tensions. These have become the primary reasons for the emergence of relative deprivation among the community. Relative deprivation is a psychological condition caused by the disparity between expectations and reality, which can lead to dissatisfaction, protest actions, and even frustration. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, employing in-depth interviews and field observations, with purposive sampling as the sampling technique. Findings reveal that the conflict began with overlapping land claims between Ria-ria Village and the neighboring village, Parsingguran I, due to the involvement of the neighboring village as the manager of Ria-ria’s customary land, which had been recognized in the Decree of the Regent of North Tapanuli No. 138/Kpts/1979. The people of Ria-ria responded with collective actions in the form of protests, which escalated into violent clashes in 2024. Inequality in legal resolutions, unequal treatment between villages, and minimal participation in decision-making processes gave rise to relative deprivation as a reaction to perceived injustice. The findings indicate that participants exhibit characteristics of relative deprivation, including fraternalistic, decremental, and aspirational types. This research is not intended to generalize the findings to a wider population.149 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

Analysis Of Bureaucratic Culture In The Communication And Informatics Office Of Pematangsiantar City In Realizing Smart City.

    No full text
This study examines the influence of bureaucratic culture in the Pematangsiantar City Communication and Informatics Office on the implementation of the smart city program, particularly how internal bureaucratic values support or hinder digital transformation. A qualitative ethnographic approach was used through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and field documentation within the office. The results show that a familial culture strengthens cooperation and technology adaptation, but there is a dependency on leadership figures, political influence in appointments, and inequality between permanent employees and contract workers. The monitoring system is implemented through leaders, technology, and digital complaint channels, although its effectiveness is not optimal. These findings emphasize that the success of a smart city depends not only on technological readiness, but also on changes in values, work patterns, and bureaucratic structures to be more adaptive and accountable.122 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

    No full text
The Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis) is a Critically Endangered species. During certain seasons, this species often forages and nests on community lands. Conflicts that arise can cause economic losses for the community and also threaten the conservation of the Tapanuli orangutan, whose population is very limited. The involvement of all parties is necessary to mitigate and manage conflicts in a sustainable manner. The study of various practice case bentuks of human-orangutan co-existence can be a strategy in minimizing conflict and providing economic opportunities for the community. One of the strategies to minimize conflict is by studying various practice case bentuks of human-orangutan co-existence. This study aims to identify locations where there are human-orangutan co-existence practice cases to be adapted to the Tapanuli orangutan habitat and to study various bentuks of human-orangutan co-existence to be adapted to the Tapanuli orangutan habitat. Using field survey and interview methods, this study analyzed that orangutans, although often perceived as a threat to society due to their interaction with agricultural land, actually have significant benefits for nature and the surrounding ecosystem. The results showed that the human-orangutan co-existence practice case locations to be adapted to the Tapanuli orangutan habitat are the Sumatran orangutan in Bukit Lawang and the Sumatran orangutan in Ketambe village because these two locations are located in Sumatra and Aceh with tropical forest ecosystems that have similarities to the Tapanuli orangutan in Batang Toru. In addition, Bukit Lawang and Ketambe have relatively good human-orangutan co-existence practices, involving local communities in habitat conservation and management. In addition, the human-orangutan co-existence bentuk that can be adapted to the Tapanuli orangutan habitat integrates three main aspects, namely orangutan habitat conservation, sustainability-based ecotourism development, and the establishment of animal corridors to maintain ecosystem connectivity.95 PagesSkripsi Sarjan

The Use of Brown Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus cystidiosus) in Fermentation to Improve the Nutrition of Azolla pinnata as Animal Feed

    No full text
Azolla pinnata is a plant that usually grows on the surface of the water. Azolla is often found in rice fields and calm water surfaces. This plant is rich in protein and easy to digest, making it an affordable and sustainable feed alternative. The inhibiting factor in the use of azolla as animal feed is the high crude fiber content, so it is necessary to process it in the form of fermentation. This study aims to determine the content of dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, ash and BETN of azolla flour fermented using brown oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus cystidiosus). This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The added treatments were the addition of brown oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus cystidiosus) as much as 0% (P0), 3% (P1), 5% (P2) and 8% (P3). The results showed that the treatment had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on the content of dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, ash and BETN. The conclusion of the study was that fermentation of azolla flour with the addition of Pleurotus cystidiosus by 8% increased the quality of the nutritional content of crude protein, dry matter and extract without nitrogen and reduced the content of crude fiber, crude fat and ash content.51 PagesSkripsi Sarjan
