Perceptions and beliefs of Education students about learning at university and during the practicum: a qualitative study
Initial teacher training takes place in various contexts, mainly at university and in schools. In recent years, several studies have focused on the exploration of how learning takes place in these scenarios, considering perspectives, designs and various approaches to research. The current paper contributes to this line of research by addressing two objectives, namely: to analyze the perception of Education students about the type of learning that takes place at university and in the schools, during the practicum, and to explore their beliefs of effective connection. For this, a qualitative study has been carried out, based on the application of a questionnaire with open questions. The participants were 36 students from the third (58%) and fourth (42%) years of the Degrees in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education of the higher education institution that has been the object of study. The results show that students perceive the centrality of the practicum in their training process, although they highlight the importance of the learning that the university, as a context, provides. Four images of the university-practicum link emerge from the study, which may help understand the relationship between theory and practice: unidirectional, bidirectional, indirect or not very apparent, and breach or gap. The conclusions of the present study recommend rethinking the syllabus, in order to bring the reality of schools closer to university training, consider organizational aspects for the development of the practicum, and enhance narrative strategies during the practicum, from the standpoint of observation, analysis of situations, and reflective practice.Educació
Motivation Profile of Education Degree Students in English Language Learning
The adoption of the English language as lingua franca, has increased the demand for English language teachers, however, the percentage of Education Degree students electing to specialize in English has dropped considerably. The objective of this research istwo-fold: to tackle motivation factors which influence ELL in Primary and Early Childhood Education Degree students, and, to analyse any differences in motivation patterns between these degrees. Drawing on Dörnyei’s L2 motivation self-system (2005, 2009),a questionnaire was elaborated to explore 12 factors which influence motivation in ELL. 106 Education Degree students took part in this study. The results obtained showed that there were 7 factors which explain the model’s variance. While Primary Education Degree students opted for career opportunities abroad, living-abroad experiences, and previous L2 learning experiences; Early Childhood Education Degree students chose previous experiences in L2 learning, sociocultural interest and L2 anxiety.Educació

The Language of Traumatic Grief in Samuel Beckett’s. A Piece of Monologue
A Piece of Monologue is analysed in this chapter in relation to the specific
characteristics of the language of traumatic mourning. The ghost-like Speaker, who
is on the edge of his life, is ‘hanging on words’ for his existence. The memories of
lost loved ones are haunting his present. And though mourning is part and parcel of
old age, the Speaker is either incapable or reluctant to remember the ones he lost.
Nameless ghosts and the anguish of losses pervade the Speaker’s narration, his
memory is a blur and his grief is mollifying. Petra G.H. Aarts and Wybrand op den
Velde point out that ‘Mourning for losses, giving meaning to and accepting past
and present experiences, and (re)creating self-coherence and self-continuity are
chores within each process; ego integration is the completion of both.’1 Both self coherence and self-continuity are vital to the sense of integrity and the construction
of identity through time and any form of loss produces a rupture in the individual’s
psyche. Thus, manifold non-integrated losses time may result in traumatic grief
and lead to the ‘pathology of self’ especially in old age, which is a period of
inactivity and reflexions. Aarta and den Velde conclude that ‘The losses that
accompany senescence have been noted to reactivate not-worked-through
traumatic contents.’2 The Speaker’s grief goes far beyond the mourning of his
loved ones – he grieves over his shattered and lost self. ‘Birth was the death of
him’, the first words in A Piece of Monologue reject any possibility of self re/construction. The Speaker is on the fragile boundary between the two worlds:
the world of the living and the world of the dead. Therefore, his speech acquires
the poetic quality of a pendulum movement, which is analysed through the lens of
the language of traumatic griefEducació
The Conception of Psychosomatic Medicine in Spain: From Neurology to the Person
As natural medicine dwindled toward the end of the nineteenth century, new perspectives emerged enabling science to deal with why a person becomes ill. This change took place in view of the presence of a scientific, philosophical, and cultural humus. Psychoanalysis, philosophical anthropology, and particularly the expansion of neurology played a unique role: these fields include a human social dimension and attempt to overcome the corporal mechanicism passed down by Descartes, as well as dualism, a causal structure between the psychic and the somatic. In Spain, the physician Juan Rof Carballo (1905–1994) became the father of psychosomatic medicine due to his university education, teachers, open mindedness, and interest in everything human, allowing him to witness these new ways of thinking about the person and also the ill person. He published Psychosomatic Pathology (1949) together with other important works such as The Internal Brain and the Emotional World (1952). The key concept of his proposal is the affective warp. This chapter analyzes the various sources that make up the psychosomatic perspective, emphasizing the role played by neurology and “the constitutive process” of man (Rof Carballo uses the term “man” in a generic sense). To justify the selection of this author, bibliometric data were used. This study, centered on a historical perspective, attempts to shed light on the present, in which neuroscientific advances and the humanization of medicine do not always share the same fate.Educació
Twitter Networks’ Centrality Measures of the Association of Health Journalist (ANIS) : The Case of Vaccines - Introduction and Theoretical Framework
The popularization of Internet and the rise of social networks have offered an unbeatable opportunity for anti-vaccines, especially active communicators, to spread their message more effectively causing a significant impact on public opinion. A great amount of research has been carried out to understand the behavior that anti-vaccine communities show on social networks. However, it seems equally relevant to study the behavior that communities and communicators “pro vaccines” perform in these networks. Therefore, the objective of this research has been to study how members of the Spanish Association of Health Journalist (ANIS) communicate and use the social network Twitter. More specifically, the different interactions made by ANIS partners were analyzed through the so-called “centrality measures of social network analysis” (SNA), to check the configuration of the user network and detect those most relevant by their indexes of centrality, intermediation or mentions received. The research monitored 142 twitter accounts for one year analyzing 254 twits and their 2.671 interactions. The research concluded that the network of ANIS partners on Twitter regarding vaccines has little cohesion and has several components not connected to each other, in addition to the fact that there are users outside the association that show greater relevance than the partners themselves. We also concluded that there are an important lack of planning and direction in the communication strategy of ANIS on Twitter, which limits the dissemination of important content.Comunicació

Professional assessment and development induction program: an application of the BRiTE Project to the spanish context.
Research has highlighted the importance of the first years of teaching as they have a great impact on teachers’ career longevity. Therefore, inspired by the BRITE project, we developed the Professional Assessment and Development (PAD) Induction Program with the objective of helping novice teachers develop resilience strategies for successfully navigating the difficult situations they may face in their first years of teaching. The PAD Induction Program also offers training for mentors in schools to assist them to guide and support new teachers. The program consisted of online content and activities aimed at encouraging novice teachers to reflect on their current situation and possibilities for improvement. There were also face-to-face seminars, distributed throughout the program, as well as specific seminars where novice teachers and mentors worked together. A total of 112 participants participated in the PAD program. To assess novice teachers’ resilience and commitment to teaching, participants were invited to complete the Multidimensional Teacher Resilience Scale (MTRS) and the Teacher Commitment Scale. Results showed that the PAD program had helped them in their integration, confidence, and stress control through the development of teacher resilience dimensions.Educació
The influence of physical attractiveness on attitude confidence and resistance to change
It is well established that the physical attractiveness of the source of a message can influence recipients' attitudes
about the message proposal. The current research is the first to examine if attractiveness is also capable of
affecting attitude confidence and resistance to change. Experiment 1 revealed that an attractive source decreased
recipients' attitude confidence, even when it did not affect attitudes. Experiment 2 replicated this novel finding
and identified a critical condition under which this effect is more likely to occur. Specifically, attractiveness only
reduced attitude confidence when it was unrelated to the merits of the persuasive proposal. This moderation by
message relevance suggests that people can correct the confidence in their judgment for inappropriate sources of
bias. Experiment 3 specified the conditions under which correction is more likely to take place on attitudes and
on attitude confidence. Specifically, correction for source attractiveness on attitudes required an explicit correction instruction but correction on attitude confidence occurred regardless of the instruction. Finally,
Experiment 4 demonstrated that the effect of attractiveness in reducing attitude confidence is consequential by
making attitudes less resistant to change when facing counter-attitudinal information. Taken together, the
present research demonstrated that attractiveness can reduce attitude confidence as well as undermine subsequent resistance to counter-attitudinal messages, but only when attractiveness was viewed as an unwanted
biasing factor (i.e., the message topic was unrelated to attractiveness).Psicología y Ciencias de la Salu
In this paper, I analyze the religious factor in some important democracies around the globe, which have been labeled as "illiberal" by some scholars. By illiberal they refer to those political movements that reject liberalism as understood in the United States (synonymous to "progressive"). For this purpose I discuss the so-called “populisms from the left and the right”. I also discuss the influence of a specific vision of Christianism in the countries of the Visegrad group (Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia), the United States of Donald Trump, the Brazil of Jair Bolsonaro, the Russia of Vladimir Putin and the Spanish party Vox. I conclude by pointing out some dangers of these illiberal democracies and also suggesting that there is a mind of "moral hemiplegia". The paper closes with some conclusions.Ciencias Jurídica
