Writing High-Frequency Words at Early Stages of L2 Acquisition: Gender and School Differences
Get PDFWithin the field of education, there is controversy as to whether the gender of students and the type of school they attend have an impact on the processes of teaching and learning a second language. The aim of this study is to determine whether these elements might be rela-ted to the writing of certain high-frequency words in English, which appear in both the Dolch and Fry lists, in 623 Spanish students aged 8 and 9 years. Based on the SPSS analysis of the errors made by these students, a subsequent and more in-depth study was carried out. For this purpose, the following instruments were used: the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to identify the significant differences; the Kruskal-Wallis test to compare errors according to schooling (single-sex and co-ed schools); and the Mann-Whitney U-test to compare the errors according to students’ gender. The results show that the type of school that students attended influenced the spelling of certain high-frequency words more than their gender. To have a stronger basis for conclusions, further collaboration among EFL teachers in all types of school and a systematic follow-up on the writing of high-frequency words over the course of the following school years would be necessaryDentro del ámbito de educativo, hay dos aspectos que generan importante controversia con respecto a su influencia o no en los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje de segundas lenguas: género del alumnado y tipo de colegio. El objetivo de este estudio consiste en ver si dichos elementos pueden estar relacionados con la escritura de determinadas palabras de alta frecuencia en inglés, las cuales aparecen en las listas Dolch y Fry, respectivamente, en un total de 623 estudiantes españoles con edades comprendidas entre los 8-9 años. Partiendo del análisis con SPSS de los errores cometidos por dichos estudiantes, se llevó a cabo un posterior estudio más en profundidad en el que se hizo uso de los siguientes instrumentos: la prueba de Kolmogorov-Smirnov para identifican las diferencias significativas existentes; la prueba de Kruskal-Wallis para comparar los errores encontrados atendiendo al tipo de colegio (mixto o segregado); y la prueba U de Mann-Whitney para comparar los errores cometidos atendiendo al género de los estudiantes. Los resultados evidencian que lo que más influyó en la escritura de determinadas palabras de alta frecuencia no era el género de los alumnos sino el tipo de colegio donde recibían formación. A fin de tener una base más sólida en lo que respecta a las conclusiones, sería nece-saria una mayor colaboración entre los profesores EFL de los tipos de colegios y un seguimiento sistemático de la escritura de palabras de alta frecuencia a largo de cursos posteriores.Educació
Literatura digital como recurso para desarrollar la comprensión lectora. Ejemplos de transposición
Get PDFDigital literature can become an interesting tool to arouse interest in literary texts among students of Secondary, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training. This article analyses some characteristics of electronic literature that make it attractive to digital natives and that can be of great help in developing reading comprehension skills. Several examples are presented that constitute transpositions of canonical works. This fact favours that they can be used in the classroom as an entrance to the original works. How Do School principals perceive education that includes death? A Phenomenological Study,
No full textAn education that includes death is lacking in schools, even during this period of the pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus. The objective of this study was to attain an exploratory understanding of the school principals’ views on death education. The study, undertaken in Spain, adopted a phenomenological design, carrying out interviews with 7 school principals. The main findings were that death was not present, with a clear educational purpose, in their schools’ curricula. Hence the inclusion of death in education requires a change of perspective in death education, based on the knowledge developed by the Pedagogy of Death.Educació
Contracepción, aborto y eutanasia después de Dobbs
No full textEn el presente trabajo analizamos la situación actual de la contracepción, el aborto y la eutanasia en los Estados Unidos de América después de la sentencia Dobbs contra Jackson Women's Health Organization, de 24 de junio de 2022. La histórica sentencia decidió que no existe un derecho constitucional al aborto en Estados Unidos y que por lo tanto cada Estado es libre de regular el aborto de acuerdo con lo que ellos entienden mejor. La cuestión está en que en un buen número de estados de ese país se entiende que el derecho a la vida del no nacido es un bien que merece protección frente a otros en los que prima de manera absoluta el derecho de la madre a decidir sobre la vida de su hijo. Esto ha planteado dudas también sobre el futuro de la contracepción y la eutanasia en la jurisprudencia del Tribunal Supremo de los Estados Unidos. En este artículo tratamos de arrojar algo de luz sobre estas cuestiones ciertamente vitales para las personas.In this paper we analyze the current status of contraception, abortion and euthanasia in the United States of America after the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, June 24, 2022. The landmark ruling decided that there is no constitutional right to abortion in the United States and that therefore each State is free to regulate abortion according to what they understand best. The issue is that in a good number of states in that country, the right to life of the unborn is understood to be a good that deserves protection in contrast to others in which the mother's right to decide on the life of her child takes absolute precedence. This has also raised doubts about the future of contraception and euthanasia in the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court of the United States. Energy prices in Europe. Evidence of persistence across markets
Get PDFThis paper deals with the behavior of energy price changes and how their shocks exert an impact on suppliers and consumers in different markets. For this purpose, a fractional integration model is used to evaluate the persistence and mean reversion in prices across the major European markets (Germany, France, Italy, UK, Spain). We compare the results with other major players as the US and Japan, to understand, first, if the European behavior is different, and second, if geopolitical shocks that are affecting this market are expected to be permanent. Empirical results show evidence of mean reversion properties in European prices, though some minor differences arise from market to market that apparently, are not associated with the energy generation strategies followed by each country. Thus, it will likely be expected following the current energy shocks the series will recover due to natural market forces, without the need for additional policies.Empres

Optimal macroprudential and fiscal policy in a monetary union
No full textThe link between the financial system, economic activity, and fiscal sustainability is increasingly evident, making the joint study of fiscal and macroprudential measures a promising area to investigate. This paper provides a novel analysis of the coordination of optimal fiscal and macroprudential policies regarding welfare maximization through a two-country model for a monetary union. I find that the advisability to coordinate macroprudential and fiscal policy depends on the kind of shock that hits the economy. After financial shocks, macroprudential-fiscal coordination at the national level entails the greatest welfare improvements. Under supply and demand shocks, the best option regarding welfare implies macroprudential-fiscal coordination to stabilize union aggregate variables.Empres

Along with the reflections of historical authors onthe subject, in this essay we analyze two cases as examples: thefalse statistics used to achieve the decriminalization of abortion indemocratic countries, and the lies of the Chinese authorities duringthe Covid-19 pandemic in one of today’s leading totalitarian states.We believe that these behaviors should not go unpunished, andtherefore we propose to insert new criminal offenses in nationaland international criminal law, especially for those in public officeand media professionals. No full textEl emprendimiento femenino ha experimentado un notable avance en los últimos años, representando un paso hacia la creación de empleo y la disminución de la disparidad de género en el ámbito laboral. No obs-tante, a pesar de estos avances, persisten numerosos obstáculos que di-ficultan el desarrollo pleno de las mujeres en el mundo empresarial. Uno de los desafíos más relevantes es el conocido como el "techo de cristal", un fenómeno que limita el ascenso y la escalabilidad de las mujeres em-prendedoras en diversos sectores.
Entre los factores que contribuyen a la existencia de este techo de cristal, destaca de manera importante la brecha digital. La tecnología y la co-nectividad son elementos esenciales en el panorama empresarial actual, ya que facilitan el acceso a información, recursos, mercados y oportuni-dades de crecimiento.
