Humanidade
Distopía apocalíptica como método de innovación docente
This project aimed to enable students to put themselves in the shoes of a
journalist in a news-crisis situation, both in press offices and newsrooms, in the face of
an imminent solar storm and the consequent blackout that would leave the planet without
electricity. This methodology of a dystopian case, based on a role-playing game, also
includes collaborative work, so highly valued in all professional fields. Thus, the three
pillars of this innovative teaching project are the role-playing game, collaborative
learning and the apocalyptic dystopia. In addition, the students were given a questionnaire
about the journalistic profession before the experiment and the same one afterwards to
assess the learning and skills acquired. The first approximations of the results obtained
indicate that some of the objectives set were indeed achieved and the students recognise
the value of the experience, as formative and as a learning experience that they might not
otherwise have acquired.
Public administrations in the European Union have a duty to keep the integration project moving forward. They often encounter difficulties in doing so. One of the main problems are cases of misappropriation of European funds, wich make it difficult to ensure that the European budget fulfils its mission. In order to avoid such situations that jeopardise the process of European integration, the Union has used criminal law to take measures to prevent this tye of situation.Ciencias Jurídica
Neonatal inhibition of androgen activity alters the programming of body weight and orexinergic peptides differentially in male and female rats
The involvement of androgens in the regulation of energy metabolism has been demonstrated. The main objective of the present research was to study the involvement of androgens in both the programming of energy metabolism and the regulatory peptides associated with feeding. For this purpose, androgen receptors and the main metabolic pathways of testosterone were inhibited during the first five days of postnatal life in male and female Wistar rats. Pups received a daily s.c. injection from the day of birth, postnatal day (P) 1, to P5 of Flutamide (a competitive inhibitor of androgen receptors), Letrozole (an aromatase inhibitor), Finasteride (a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor) or vehicle. Body weight, food intake and fat pads were measured. Moreover, hypothalamic Agouti-related peptide (AgRP), neuropeptide Y (NPY), orexin, and proopiomelanocortin (POMC) were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction assay. The inhibition of androgenic activity during the first five days of life produced a significant decrease in body weight in females at P90 but did not affect this parameter in males. Moreover, the inhibition of aromatase decreased hypothalamic AgRP mRNA levels in males while the inhibition of 5α-reductase decreased hypothalamic AgRP and orexin mRNA levels in female rats. Finally, food intake and visceral fat, but not subcutaneous fat, were affected in both males and females depending on which testosterone metabolic pathway was inhibited. Our results highlight the differential involvement of androgens in the programming of energy metabolism as well as the AgRP and orexin systems during development in male and female rats.Psicología y Ciencias de la Salu
Mechanisms of change in compassion-based programs for medical students
Medical practice exposes physicians to numerous stressors, leading to high rates of psychological distress and burnout, a problem that begins during medical school. Scientific evidence suggests that promoting compassion among physicians could improve their well-being and promote patient-centered care. However, the mechanisms underlying these benefits remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the mediators and moderators of changes in psychological distress and well-being following Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) among medical students. A randomized controlled trial with 40 medical students assigned to an 8-week CCT program or a waitlist control group was conducted. Participants were assessed at pre-intervention, post-intervention, and a 2-month follow-up on measures of psychological distress, well-being, mindfulness, compassion, emotion regulation, and burnout. Results indicated that CCT led to significant reductions in stress and anxiety immediately after the program, mediated by improvements in emotion regulation and mindfulness skills. Gender moderated changes in stress, anxiety, depression, and well-being at post-intervention, with women benefiting more than men, though these differences were not sustained at follow-up. In conclusion, this study contributes to the growing body of literature on the benefits of compassion training in healthcare and provides insights into the mechanisms through which compassion could support physicians and medical students.Psicología y Ciencias de la Salu
Persistence and Long Run Co-movements Between Gender Equality and Global Prices
This paper looks into the continuous trends, steadiness and associations of gender equality and global indices. We examine the level of integration of each group of information from a fractional standpoint for the years 2014-2021. The findings demonstrate that all the individual series are remarkably consistent, with levels of integration close to 1 and no evidence of mean reverting behaviour. Looking at potential cointegrating relationships among the two variables, if we use a classical method based on the two steps approach of Engle and Granger (1987) the order of integration of the estimated errors is very close to 1 showing no evidence of cointegration at all. However, using the more powerful fractional CVAR (FCVAR) approach, the results strongly support the hypothesis of cointegration, finding evidence of long run co-movements between the two series. Investment strategies and policy implications of these results are reported at the end of the manuscript.Empres
Solidaridad ambiental y dignidad humana
In recent decades, there has been a growing awareness in the developed world of environmental care and concern for the en- vironmental challenges facing our planet. At the same time, a series of practices and actions, in our opinion, seriously contrary to human digni- ty, have become widespread and are frequently approved and even promoted by many of those who denounce harmful actions in order to preserve a healthy ecosystem. It seems to us desirable to achieve co- herence between the discourse in favor of environmental solidarity and that in favor of human dignity. On other occasions, the identification of human beings as the main cause of natural disasters and environmental degradation has gone so far as to state that the main problem is that there are too many people on earth. The purpose of this article is to convey that we will only succeed in solving serious environmental pro- blems if we take into account the primacy of respect for human dignity and avoid Marxist dialectics of confrontation that unjustly and uselessly simplify the complexity of these problems.Ciencias Jurídica
Key structure and processes in esports teams: a systematic review
Why are there numerous cases of esports teams with superstar rosters that have failed? This question highlights that having
top professional players with extraordinary individual skills may not be enough to achieve success. Since winning is a primary goal, it is crucial to understand all the variables that positively infuence performance. While individual performance
is critical to success as part of an esports team, team dynamics, structures, and processes also foster group functioning and
performance. Thus, this research aims to conduct a systematic review of the team variables involved in the performance
of esports teams. For this purpose, we conducted a literature search following the PRISMA guidelines in Science Direct,
Web of Science, and PsycInfo databases since 2023. This search resulted in 371 articles, and after applying the inclusion
and exclusion criteria, a total of twenty-three scientifc articles were analyzed. The results were grouped under seven main
topics: 1) Organigram, 2) Stages of a team, 3) Team structure, 4) Team variables and processes, 5) Leadership, 6) Lack of
experience in team integration, and 7) Holistic and integral perspective. To conclude, more research is needed to study the
efect of team dynamics in esports, as well as to highlight the role of the psychologist in fostering group dynamics to improve
team cohesion, coordination, motivation, performance, and synergy.Psicología y Ciencias de la Salu
