INVESTIGATION OF THE POTENTIAL OF ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY NON-IONIC SURFACTANTS FOR EOR

This study investigates the use of non-ionic surfactants synthesized from sunflower oil as sustainable alternatives for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). The bio-based surfactants were evaluated alongside commercial products through physicochemical and performance tests. The results revealed that the renewable formulations demonstrated excellent oil displacement and emulsification capacity, comparable to or exceeding that of conventional surfactants. These findings highlight the potential of plant-derived surfactants to reduce the environmental impact of EOR processes without compromising efficiency

Face and Form. Physiognomy in Literary Modernism. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2025, 196 p.

Anca Pârvulescu’s latest study takes on an ambitious stake: unveiling a “history of the present” through the lenses of what she calls the “modern faciality machine” (17) – the apparatus of subject production described by Deleuze and Guattari in A Thousand Plateaus. The current obsession with technologies of the face (illustrated by the ubiquity of cosmetic adjustments, celebrity culture, “Instagram” faces or their equally commodified variants, facial recognition devices, or by the intensity of the debate over mask wearing by responsible citizens during the Covid pandemic, etc.) is invoked as the justification for a foray into the modernist effervescent, albeit ambivalent, reconfiguration of earlier regimes of faciality, itself drawing on the age-old identification of faces with texts to be deciphered.  The book’s anchorage in our collective enchantment with human faces sounds familiar but opportune alarm bells for analysts of modernity’s appetite for hyperconsumerist homogenization, mass surveillance and disinformation. Its substantive success, however, is ensured by the historicization of literary modernism’s efforts to both abolish mimetic modes and counteract the drive towards anonymization through minimalist tactics of physical representation that culminate in avant-gardist efforts of self-effacement, even if they remain unable to extricate themselves from the discursive assemblages of race, ethnicity, gender, or class

MIGRATION AND DEMOGRAPHIC AGEING NEXUS: A BIBLIOMETRIC APPROACH

International migration and demographic ageing represent two of the most significant social transformations of the 21st century. The interdisciplinary interest shown in these topics reflects the major role of these phenomena in the remodeling of societies, with an emphasis on demographic reconfiguration, structural adaptation, social diversification, recalibration of public strategies and policies, and socio-economic sustainability. The present study performs a bibliometric analysis among a set of 615 articles identified after setting a series of filters in the OpenAlex platform, in order to determine the diversity of fields that have shown interest in the analyzed phenomena, the institutions and sources that have shown proximity in the conceptual approach, the degree of co-authorship between countries, and the identification of scientific communities affiliated with the same schools of thought. The phenomena of migration and demographic transition overcome the barrier of economic and social interest and are found in the concerns of separate fields, such as medicine, urban planning, legislative framework, public policies, production reconfiguration, the healthcare system, the education system, public finances, etc. Article History: Received: June 17, 2025; Reviewed: November 20, 2025; Accepted: December 5, 2025; Available online: December 18, 2025. An Eidetic Phenomenology of Emotions: Notes on the Chiasmatic Character of the Emotional Dimension of Existence

This article critically examines Paul Ricœur’s eidetic phenomenology of emotions. With reference to his early phenomenological analysis of the will, developed in his work entitled Freedom and Nature: The Voluntary and the Involuntary (1950/1960), emotions will be understood as involuntary aspects involved in the essential structures of willing. My analysis will be divided into two parts. First, I will discuss Ricœur’s conception of emotions as tied to his sustained attention to the theme of embodiment as entailing activity (e.g., wanting, moving, doing) and resistance (internal and external). In particular, emotions will be considered in relation to Ricœur\u27s first two moments of willing: decision and voluntary movement. I will show that emotions are linked to needs, motives, and values, conceived as the body’s involuntary dimensions correlated to decision, and I will explain their role as organs for effective action. In this context, I will stress the connection between emotions and imagination based on embodiment, as well as Ricœur’s rejection of the opposition between emotionality and rationality. Then, the second part will focus on Ricœur’s distinction between feelings and emotions and on his careful analysis of the difference between emotions and passions. These reflections will lead to Ricœur’s study of wonder as the most basic emotional attitude. Ricœur’s phenomenology of emotions offers rich insights for any philosophical reflection on the ubiquitous nature of emotions and emotional experiences

On the Completeness Interpretation of Representation Theorems

Representation theorems, similar to their counterparts, categoricity theorems, establish an isomorphism between certain algebraic systems. However, in contrast to categoricity theorems, they have received considerably less attention in the philosophy of mathematics. The paper attempts to rectify this shortcoming by excavating the philosophical potential of representation theorems through an analysis of one of their most popular interpretations in the mathematical literature, the completeness interpretation. The meaning of this notion of completeness and the mechanism through which representation theorems are supposed to achieve it are still unclear. The paper addresses both issues. First, it proposes a definition of completeness that best suits the informal notion used in the mathematical interpretation of the theorems. Second, it formally details the mechanism responsible for achieving it. In the process, I’ll issue some remarks on the significance and relevance of the formal reconstruction of the completeness interpretation for non-eliminative structuralism. For exegetical as well as evidential reasons, I’ll focus on Cayley’s representation theorem and use it as a case study

Persuasive Arguments and Career Decisions Among Grade 12 Learners in Selected Secondary Schools in South Africa

The study examined persuasive arguments and adjustment in career decisions among grade 12 learners in selected secondary schools in South Africa. Persuasive Arguments theory guided the research. The design adopted in this research was a multiple case study. The participants comprised 14 learners in grade 12 in two selected secondary schools in South Africa. Data was collected using Focus Group Discussions. Thematic analysis framework was used in data analysis. The findings indicated that persuasive arguments in the form of new information, knowledge from other learners and original information influenced career adjustment among learners. The implication of this finding is that universities reconsider training teacher counsellors on career paths and subject requirements to equip them with the best knowledge on varied careers

Körmöczi – Halfway between Radicalism and Enlightenment

This paper explores the relationship between theology and science in Körmöczi’s work. First, it examines the role of experimental science in Unitarian education in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Next, it looks at how experimental sciences influenced Körmöczi’s academic work. Finally, it analyses how these scientific and philosophical thoughts affected Körmöczi’s views on faith and the consequences for his later life as a bishop. The study is divided into six sections. The first section introduces Körmöczi, connecting his study trip to Göttingen with his teaching at the Unitarian College in Kolozsvár [Cluj-Napoca]. The second contains Körmöczi’s concept of the soul, presenting his views on moral law as an internal force guiding human thought and actions. The third section analyses the impact of Kantianism on Körmöczi’s thought. The fourth section investigates Körmöczi’s threads to Schleiermacher, discussing the issue of deism and pantheism. The fifth section examines the accusation of atheism against Körmöczi, considering its context and significance within the church. And, finally, the study concludes with a summary

The antioxidant, antiradical, and anti-hemolytic activities of the methanol extract of Rhamnus cornifolius leaves were investigated, along with the determination of element and vitamin levels in the dried plant material. Element analyses were determined by ICP-OES dry ashing, vitamins by HPLC, vitamin C, total phenolic, flavonoid, antioxidant capacity, DPPH•, ABTS•+ and anti-haemolytic activity spectrophotometrically. Total phenolic, flavonoid and antioxidant capacities of the plant were measured as 4.482 ± 0.159 mg GA/g, 27.420 ± 2.551 mg QE/g and 41.795 ± 18.506 mM AA/g, while retinol, α-tocopherol, phylloquinone and ascorbic acid as 0.2167 ± 0.019, 4.313 ± 0.685, 0.5622 ± 0.09 µmol/kg and 403.631 ± 8.682 mg 100/g. IC50 values of DPPH•, ABTS•+ and anti-haemolytic assays were determined as 33.974 ± 1.918 (BHT = IC50 26.979 ± 1.116), 58.197 ± 1.826 (trolox = IC50 27.854 ± 1.352) and 68.51 ± 5.33 (trolox = IC50 44.040 ± 0.290) μg/mL, respectively. According to the results of this study, it was determined that the vitamin and element content of the plant was at high level, ABTS•+ and DPPH• tests showed a promising antioxidant power.  These findings represent the first report in the literature, and the plant’s composition was evaluated as a basis for future in vivo studies
