L\u27HERITAGE DE LA LABIOVELAIRE DANS LES LANGUES ROMANES : LE CAS DU LAT. COQUERE ‘CUIRE’
The heritage of the labiovelar in Romance Languages: The case of Lat. coquere ‘to cook’. Lat. coquere appears in REW3 (no 2212) with two variants: coquere and cocere. According to REW3 and FEW (2, 1167a), Old French is the only idiom to have inherited both forms, with a semantic distinction: the (indirect) descendant of coquere, cuivre s.m./f., has a figurative meaning, namely ‘worry, torment’, while the descendant of cocere, cuire, has retained the concrete meaning ‘to cook’. Our aim is to find out whether this semantic bipartition was coupled with phonetic differentiation in Protoromance, or whether it merely represents an idioromance development. We will apply the comparative grammar-reconstruction method, as it is used in the DÉRom project. This will enable us to establish, on the one hand, whether the */\u27kɔkw-e-/ prototype is found in an area wider than the Gallo-Romance domain, and, on the other, whether the semantic reconstruction also indicates two distinct prototypes. The Late Latin and Romance data we collected suggest that, by the 3rd century at the latest, the verb had already lost the labial appendice of the labiovelar, and the form in circulation had a simple velar: */\u27kɔk-e-/. Bringing into question the inheritance of the labiovelar consonant /kw/ in Romance languages, the study analyzes the possibility that a semantic differentiation may be accompanied by a phonetic bipartition. The conclusion is that, in this case, the reconstruction of two prototypes is not necessary, but that a single form, without the labiovelar, can explain the Romance descendants and their two main meanings.

The new edition of The Chronological Dictionary of the Novel from its Origins to the 2000s [Dicționarul cronologic al romanului românesc de la origini până în 2000] is a large-scale, long-term undertaking, strengthened by an extensive research team of Sextil Pușcariu Institute from Cluj-Napoca. Intended as an “exhaustive bibliography”, the dictionary encompasses two chronological volumes, with the year of 1977 marking the end of the first tome and the beginning of the second. The work has a double aim, as mentioned in the introduction: to illustrate the production and the literary reception of the novel and to highlight the social dynamics of literary forms. Although situated within literary studies, the project advances clearly articulated theoretical and sociological objectives
Depth and sdepth of powers of the path ideal of a cycle graph. II
Let Jn,m := (x1x2 · · · xm, x2x3 · · · xm+1, . . . , xn−m+1 · · · xn, xn−m+2 · · · xnx1, . . . , xnx1 · · · xm−1) be the m-path ideal of the cycle graph of length n, in the ring of polynomials S = K[x1, . . . , xn]. As a continuation of our previous paper, we prove several new results regarding depth(S/J t and sdepth(S/J t ), where t ≥ 1.

Existence and multiplicity of solutions to an ab- stract Cauchy problem for an evolution equation involving fractional dissipation term of Caputo type
The aim of this work is to investigate the existence and multiplicity of solutions to a nonhomogenious quasi-linear second order evolution equation involving a fractional dissipation term of Caputo type in abstract framework. Some criteria on the existence of at least one or two solutions are obtained by using some well-known fixed-point theorems for the sum of two operators. An example is presented to validate our analysis.

JEAN FRANÇAIX : CINQ DANSES EXOTIQUES. A REFINED DIALOGUE BETWEEN SAXOPHONE AND PIANO
Cinq danses exotiques by Jean Françaix is a work of reference for the chamber music repertoire, underlining the value of the dialogue between saxophone and piano. The research aims to provide an in-depth analysis of this suite, with a special focus on piano accompaniment. Taking as a starting point the exploration of the French saxophone interpretation style and the detailed analysis of every dance (structure, melody, rhythm), the study enlarges the perspective by investigating the role of the piano. The piano transcends the main accompaniment function, becoming an equal partner in the musical dialogue. The technical and interpretative particularities of the piano sheet are analyzed through specific musical examples, to underline how the piano contributes to the atmosphere and the rendition of the melodic texture. Providing a balanced perspective on both the instruments, the research reveals the complexity and refinement of the composition Cinq danses exotiques, adding a new layer of meaning to the understanding of this French chamber music
GREGORIAN CHANT IN THE PRACTICE OF THE SAXON UNITARIANS IN TRANSYLVANIA. PART 2
This study examines the antiphon repertoire of the MSU 1042 manuscript, a 1622 German-language gradual compiled for the Saxon Unitarian community in Cluj. The source comprises 285 pages of meticulously notated music, including seventeen antiphons, which represent the core of this analysis. The antiphons are compared with Hungarian Reformed, Lutheran, and Unitarian sources, as well as with medieval Latin models. The analysis demonstrates that, although some items appear in Hungarian Unitarian collections, the majority of the Saxon antiphons are closely related to Reformed and Lutheran sources, particularly the Öreg gradual. The texts are predominantly biblical, often corresponding to Luther’s translations, but doctrinal adaptations were made to align with Unitarian theology. The study shows that the Saxon Unitarian antiphons, while smaller in number than the Hungarian Unitarian repertoire, cover all liturgical cycles of the ecclesiastical year. They reflect a high degree of creative independence, pairing newly adapted texts with melodies derived from, but not identical to, medieval Gregorian chant patterns. MSU 1042 thus provides valuable insights into the musical practice, liturgical adaptation, and theological orientation of the 17th-century Saxon Unitarian community in Cluj
More-than-human, Less-than-human. Entering the In-between
The article reads some assumptions of contemporary New Materialism against the grain, according to which the question of human/humanity should be completely translated back into material-semiotic entanglements – “beyond the self,” “beyond the species,” “beyond theory,” and “beyond death.” On the one hand, the article contrasts them with Bruno Latour\u27s thesis of the current European crisis as a “cascade of engendering troubles” that all revolve around procreation/ reproduction. On the other hand, it confronts them with Luc Boltanki\u27s assertion that the historical situation of today\u27s Europe can be compared to the onto-theological concept of “limbo,” in which fetuses or unbaptized newborns traditionally remain—as a “border zone” between inside and outside. The focus here is on the question of the human being in the sense of an “in-between” or more-or-less-than-human
Emmanuel Alloa, „Rezistența sensibilului. Merleau-Ponty și critica transparenței”, Oradea: Ratio & Revelatio, 2025, ISBN 978-630-6657-23-0
The Romanian translation of Emmanuel Alloa’s book entitled the Resistance of the Sensible provides the reader with an overview of the key concepts of Merleau-Ponty’s developing thought. Not only does the author of the book touch upon several aspects that have been overlooked by the current exegesis, but he also provides a unitary view on Merleau-Ponty’s idea of transparency, as is found in the corpus of his work. Moreover, Alloa suggests some critical remarks concerning how Merleau-Ponty’s thought can be enriched by comparing it with research stemming from psychology, linguistics and the history of philosophy. For example, the last chapter of his book compares the thematization of Aristotle with the late thinking of Merleau-Ponty, to finally propose the notion of “diaphenomenology” as emblematic of the French phenomenologist’s thinking.
Alloa commences with the simple, yet definitory question of what does perceptual evidence exactly mean? We can just think of Merleau-Ponty’s early magnum opus entitled the Phenomenology of Perception, wherein the French philosopher engages with the framework of Husserl, at the same time, advancing theories which have their origin in psychiatry or psychology. Perceptual evidence designates, first and foremost, the givenness of the object as something coherent, permanent and constant. It is what is before our eyes, contrasting and opposing us. We could just remember Ponty’s famous glossing from the Visible and the Invisible that “I have faith in what is perceived”, thus, starting with Merleau-Ponty late phenomenological ontology, we could also discuss the notion of perceptual faith in the world.
Alloa’s book also provides us with certain hints concerning how we should read Merleau-Ponty’s oeuvre, thus the author suggests, following Ponty’s reading of Eugen Fink, an author also present in the Phenomenology of Perception, that wonder is precisely the starting point of philosophy, at which we can arrive by loosening our intentional threads which bind us to the world. Therefore, the experience of philosophical thinking would be an utterly strange experience. This strange experience shakes the foundations of our familiarity with the world, introducing us into the philosophical realm per se.
The author emphasizes that the notion of transparency is not found in any glossary pertaining to the key concepts of Merleau-Ponty, whereas for Alloa, it is precisely transparency which can be called the leitmotif of Ponty’s work. Therefore, we could discuss transparency in relation to ourselves, with the world and with others. Even though the current exegesis identifies several stages of Ponty’s work, Alloa argues for the continuity of the former’s oeuvre, suggesting that it is precisely perception which provides the unitary aspect of Ponty’s corpus.

„Mázlid van haver, nem bóvli a szajré.” Hebrew and Yiddish Loanwords in Present-Day Hungarian Language
The Jewish minority in the Hungarian population has been undergoing a kind of renaissance in the last decades: the financial and cultural support of the ruling governments met with the awakening power of Hungarian Jews, which has led to the revival of the Hungarian Jewry. As a result, the theme of “Hebrew and Yiddish loanwords in Hungarian” has reappeared. Several list, some simpler, some more detailed, were published either in printed or in electronic form.
Despite the lack of serious sociological and linguistic surveys, the author attempts to give an established and valid list of this segment of Hungarian vocabulary. After biblical onomasticon and international words (e.g. Amen, behemoth, bagel, goy, hallelujah, etc.), he then examined a third group as well, which consists of allegedly Hebrew and/or Yiddish loanwords in the recent usage of Hungarian. Most of them belong to the realm of slang. This part of the vocabulary is well known, but some of the words seems to be new. To clarify this confused picture caused by the new, shorter or longer lists, we have introduced three categories: accepted loanwords, dubious loanwords, and refused loanwords. During the survey, we used all standard Biblical Hebrew dictionaries, workbooks and standard Hungarian linguistic reference books, too.
Because of the aforementioned Jewish revival, we believe that Jews would like to express their renewed dignity in linguistic terms as well. Yiddish has disappeared as a transmitter, but this does not mean they cannot create new lists, extending their loanwords together with their dignity. So, new lists are emerging in Budapest and for Budapest
