The digital native generations have unique media consumption and learning behaviours shaped by their daily exposure to technology. The social media platforms, in particular Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, are key channels through which younger users can discover music and access some educational content. These platforms can not only be used for entertainment, but can also provide opportunities for informal and formal music education. Classical music is frequently featured in memes and viral trends, increasing its accessibility and relevance for younger audiences. Particularly, certain elements of social media platforms are particularly effective in integrating music education through visual and interactive content. Through customised, interactive lessons, educators can harness learners’ knowledge of digital tools to deepen musical knowledge and stimulate interest, as well as increase motivation and promote inclusion. Age-appropriate and socially relevant tasks can bridge the generation gap in education. To be inclusive and effective in music education, it is essential that teaching methods are adapted to evolving digital habits

Harpsichord or Piano? Development of Bach’s “Italian Concerto” BWV 971 Performance in Modern Musical Practice

    Get PDF
This article compares piano and harpsichord interpretations of J. S. Bach’s Italian Concerto in F Major, BWV 971. I’ve often wondered “How to play Bach’s music correctly?” This question stemmed from historical authenticity in interpretation. Authentic performances of Bach’s compositions raise a variety of problems regarding sound, technique, and style. This is due to the fact that Bach composed during a period in history when the organ, harpsichord and the clavichord were the primary keyboard instruments. It is possible to perceive and experience Bach’s music in a fundamentally different way depending on whether it is played on the piano or the harpsichord. Because dynamics cannot be altered and there is no pedal, the harpsichord demands a crisper and more distinct polyphony between voices. Articulation and ornamentation are crucial for clarity on the harpsichord, and phrases need to be formed by agogic and rhythmic shaping. When playing the piano, the performer has the ability to express themselves freely through the use of dynamics. A more expressive sound that is more closely related to vocal emotion is possible. When there is an excessive amount of pedalization or an extremely passionate attack, there is a possibility that the polyphony will become distorted

    Get PDF
This study critically examines the reforms implemented by the Botswana Unified Revenue Service in addressing tax noncompliance, focusing on their influence on taxpayer behaviour. Tax noncompliance, encompassing both evasion and avoidance, poses a significant challenge globally, particularly in terms of impacting revenue collection in developing nations and necessitating an analysis of international responses. Employing a qualitative approach, this research utilised face-to-face interviews and focus group discussions with taxpayers and educators to gauge perceptions of compliance strategies and their effects on voluntary compliance. The findings indicate that reforms by the Botswana Unified Revenue Service have substantially increased tax revenue and increased voluntary compliance, reflecting a shift in taxpayer attitudes from justifying noncompliance to viewing tax payments as moral obligations. The findings underscore the importance of perceived government efficacy and transparency in shaping taxpayer attitudes. This approach highlights the critical role of effective public service delivery in promoting responsible taxpaying behaviour and enhancing overall tax compliance. This study elucidated the multifaceted strategies employed in addressing tax noncompliance and their resultant impact on taxpayer behaviour. While substantial progress has been made in promoting tax compliance, adopting digital tools presents a promising avenue for further advancing tax compliance. JEL classification: H20, H25, H71. Get PDF
This study aimed to identify prominent themes discussed in the research on the internationalization of SMEs on the African continent from 2005 to 2023. For this study, a total of 50 articles were selected, and thematic analysis was conducted to identify the prominent themes. Among the fifty articles selected for this systematic literature review (SLR), seven prominent themes were found: pull factors, network theory, export performance, mindset, entry mode decision, institutions, and barriers to internationalization. In this sample of articles, the most discussed themes are pull factors, network theory, and export performance, while the least discussed is barriers to internationalization. The findings of this study suggest that further research should be conducted to examine how the mindset of entrepreneurs or top managers may affect the internationalization of African SMEs, and how this may also affect the mode of entry adopted bysmall and medium size enterprises (SMEs). In addition, further research should be conducted on the barriers to internationalization of SMEs on the African continent. Lastly, this study recommends that further research be conducted on the role that institutions play in facilitating the internationalization of SMEs in Africa. The significant contribution of this study was identifying the prominent themes concerning internationalization in the African context. In addition, it identified areas for further research in order to gain a deeper understanding of this phenomenon in Africa.  JEL Classification: F23, L26, O55  Article History: Received: 20 February 2025; Reviewed: 30 May 2025; Accepted: 20 June 2025; Available online: 27 June 202

‘Oh My Friends, There is No Friend.’ Philosophies of Friendship from Aristotle to Derrida

    Get PDF
The paper analyzes the crisis of friendship understood above all as the crisis of a theoretical paradigm that, starting from the Homeric exaltation of friendship, passing through the famous Platonic dialogue, the Lysis, Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, Cicero’s De amicitia, Montaigne’s De l’amitié, and ending with Kant’s reflections on human subject, has dominated western cultural tradition. This classical model of friendship, based on reciprocity, equality, mutual recognition and decisive for a certain conception of the political, goes into crisis at the end of the 19th century and then in the 20th century with the emergence of man’s existential loneliness. Beginning with Nietzsche, and then in the philosophy of Derrida, a conception of friendship as inequality, asymmetry, disproportion emerges, which overcomes any illusion of being-together confusingly and turns to the possibility of a being-with-another that respects its irreducible difference. A concept of friendship thus takes shape, also present in some of Ernst Jünger’s reflections, alongside the traditional one, linked to estrangement and insurmountable distance that makes the very idea of friendship extremely aporetic but at the same time opens up new forms of hospitality and relations with the other

THE SOCIAL ANCHORS AND SOCIAL CAPITAL PERSPECTIVES OF EXPLAINING ALBANIAN IMMIGRANT’S PROBLEMS OF SOCIAL INTEGRATION IN GERMANY

    Get PDF
This paper explores the process of social integration of Albanian immigrants in Germany using a quality approach, based on literature review and in-depth interviews. Drawing on sociological concepts of social anchor and social capital, the study analyzes the challenges and opportunities migrants face during this process. Through the cross-thematic analysis it is found that the migrant interviewed resulted to experience difficulties in getting ties with German natives or even to keep strong networks with Albanians. Regarding literature review, this means they have built weak social capital and social anchors, that produces difficulties in their economic, socio-cultural and legal integration process. Among the strongest challenges of integration were language barriers, the process of equipping curricula, cultural gap between Albania and Germany, high level of bureaucracy in institutions and non-participation of migrants in organized Albanian or German groups. While opportunities that facilitate integration resulted in support from Albanian employment networks, social ties with other communities for economic and social growth, high levels of trust in German institutions and meritocracy, German pro-migrant state policy and opportunities for inclusion in the education system or vocational training and lack of perceived discrimination regarding their ethnic origin. They mainly experienced discrimination due to the perception of Albanian immigrants as poor non-European immigrants, hot-blooded Balkans or Eastern Muslims. The findings show that social connections, community support and integration policy play an essential role in the success of integration

REGULATION THEORY AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION. REGIME(S) OF ACCUMULATION AND MODES OF REGULATION IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

    Get PDF
What can become visible once you turn the European integration in a political economy phenomena problem? Employing Regulation theory we aim to show an alternative heterodox version of understanding European integration and its shortcomings. Turning towards the European integration from the standpoint of Regulation Theory and its model of critical political economy, European integration cannot be separated from the production and reproduction of the prevailing capitalist regime of accumulation. Regulation theory operates with multi-scalar theoretical models coated in a mezzo-level abstractionist approach. Its analytical force it’s doubled by a disruption-oriented approach that offers a reformist critique to the capitalist order as it is reproduced within the confines of the EU. Consequently, the process of integration is structurally constrained by the (supra)national ‘institutional fix’ achieved by the dynamic historical and material configuration of the hegemonic mode of regulation. Assessing the limits and the contributions Regulation theory makes to the debate around the political economy of socio-political presuppositions and conflicts entailed by the integration process in the EU represents the main aim of this article
