Checklist of the genus Cortinarius in Romania: taxonomic and distributional insights

The genus Cortinarius is one of the most diverse ectomycorrhizal lineages of Basidiomycota, yet its diversity in Romania has remained poorly documented. This study presents the first comprehensive checklist of Cortinarius sensu lato in the country, integrating historical records, literature data, field surveys, and molecular data. A total of 231 species is confirmed, including 110 supported by DNA sequence evidence and 121 validated solely based on morphology. Spatial analysis of collection sites highlights two major research hotspots in the Apuseni Mountains and the Transylvanian Basin, reflecting uneven sampling effort. Despite its richness and ecological importance, Romanian Cortinarius remains underrepresented in global sequence repositories. These findings emphasize the need for broader molecular surveys and systematic biodiversity mapping to resolve species boundaries and better integrate Romanian taxa into European and global frameworks. METAPHORICAL FRAMING OF OBESITY IN ONLINE NEWS DISCOURSE

Metaphorical Framing of Obesity in Online News Discourse. For people living with obesity, public discourse is replete with messages concerning the risks and warnings that their overweight and size pose to society and themselves. Moreover, bias and stigma are frequently associated with obesity, people suffering from it being perceived as unattractive, repulsive, and even responsible for their condition. This paper is based on a content analysis of obesity discourse in Digi24 news published online between 2017 and 2022. It aims to find out how obesity is framed through metaphors and what its subsequent conceptualisations and evaluations are at the linguistic level (individual versus collective responsibility, positive versus negative evaluation), as well as at the level of associated imagery. Results demonstrate that Romanian online news metaphorically frames obesity in ways that both inform and reinforce stigma toward the persons living with it. Overcoming the limited understanding, stereotypes, and stigma surrounding obesity is a slow but essential process, to which online news can contribute by indirectly shaping public perceptions and societal attitudes towards obesity.

BERT-BASED AUTHORSHIP ATTRIBUTION ON THE ROMANIAN DATASET CALLED ROST

Having been around for decades, the problem of authorship attribution remains a current focus. Some of the more recent instruments used are the pre-trained language models, the most prevalent being BERT. Here we used such a model to detect the authorship of texts written in the Romanian language. The dataset used is highly unbalanced, i.e., significant differences in the number of texts per author, the sources from which the texts were collected, the period in which the authors lived and wrote these texts, the medium intended to be read (i.e., paper or online), and the type of writing (i.e., stories, short stories, fairy tales, novels, literary articles, and sketches). The results are better than expected, sometimes exceeding 87% macro-accuracy. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification. 68T50.1998 CR Categories and Descriptors. MODERN VOCAL TECHNIQUES AS A TOOL FOR IMPROVING VOCAL AND VOCAL ENSEMBLE SKILLS OF ART EDUCATION STUDENTS

The study’s relevance lies in the growing need to adapt the educational process in the field of vocal art to the challenges of the contemporary music scene, where vocalists’ non-standard vocal techniques and methods in the performance process are becoming increasingly popular. The study aimed to investigate the influence of modern vocal techniques on the development of vocal and vocal ensemble skills of art education students, to determine their effectiveness in the educational process and to consider implementation methods in educational practice. Methods: The study included expert evaluation, a comparative method for evaluating traditional and modern techniques, and an empirical basis: a questionnaire survey of students of music educational institutions. Results: The results of the study have shown that modern vocal techniques such as belting, twang, vocal fry, subtone, creaky voice, whistle register, ingressive phonation, multiphonics, sprechgesang, vocal distortion and yodelling contribute to expanding the performer’s range, enhancing timbral expressiveness, and developing dynamic control. In addition, their use in a vocal ensemble helps to improve the balance of voices, form a harmonious sound and develop intonation coherence. The use of digital technologies in the learning process allows for an objective analysis of vocal parameters and increases the effectiveness of the training process. Conclusions: Modern vocal techniques are powerful tools for improving the vocal training of students in art education institutions. Their implementation in the educational process contributes to improving performance skills, expanding the expressive capabilities of the voice, and optimising ensemble sound. Scientific novelty of the study: The study’s scientific novelty lies in its comprehensive analysis of the impact of modern vocal techniques - belting, twang, vocal fry, subtone, creaky voice, whistle register, ingressive phonation, multiphonics, sprechgesang, vocal distortion, and yodelling - on the formation of professional skills of students of art education institutions. Prospects for future research: Further research could aim to develop specialised methodological guidelines for teachers, adapt modern vocal techniques for different age groups, and analyse the effectiveness of digital tools in vocal teaching

PERFORMANCE PRACTICES OF TRANSYLVANIAN LATIN IN ECCLESIASTICAL MUSIC

The question of Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation continues to be a subject of debate in the performing arts circles. While Latin is often labeled a “dead” language, one may argue that it remains vividly alive through performances – whether in liturgical or concert practices. For this reason, the pronunciation of Ecclesiastical Latin is not only an academic concern but an essential aspect of vocal authenticity within established religious aesthetics. Although it is widely acknowledged that no regional form of Ecclesiastical Latin mirrors the Classical Latin pronunciation of antiquity, the question today is whether performers should follow the scholarly reconstruction of local practices or adhere to Papal standardization. This is also the case with Transylvanian Ecclesiastical Music, which, based on historical evidence proves its alignment with the Hungarian-Germanic practices. Today, the performer’s pronunciation of Latin in Transylvania is often a hybrid language, blending Germanic and Italianate features. Using the International Phonetic Alphabet, this paper analyzes the fixed forms of the Ordinarium Missae comparing the German pronunciation suggested by Valentin Lanzrein with the Italian pronunciation model instructed by Michael de Angelis as per Vatican’s requirements, while describing the Transylvanian performing practices in its main communities: Hungarian, Saxon and Romanian. Ultimately, this study argues the local need for development of specialized vocal performance programs focused on Western sacred repertoire, a curriculum distinct from those centered on opera and Byzantine music

COMPARISON OF THE EVOLUTION AND RECONCEPTION OF THE ROMANTIC BAGATELLE GENRE IN THE PIANO WORKS OF B. SMETANA AND C. SAINT-SAËNS

The genre of piano bagatelle, which is part of miniatures, continues to maintain its relevance in modern musical art and has its own history of evolution and development, which dates more than three centuries. In our opinion, the bagatelle in the works of romantic composers is especially interesting, which in many cases become the foundation for modern composers working in this genre. In some cases, in the 21st century, there is a phenomenon of the disappearance of the boundary between genre and style in the bagatelle, for example, in the work of the Ukrainian composer V. Silvestrov. In our study, special attention is paid to the search for the main features of the evolution and rethinking of the baguette genre in the piano work of B. Smetana and C. Saint-Saens. Through a comprehensive music-theoretical analysis, the genre-stylistic features of the selected works were revealed. Meter, rhythm, tempo, sound dynamics and articulation was highlighted at the syntactic level. At the compositional and dramaturgical level, the following features was shown: texture, key-tonal plan, form, dramaturgy, and programmaticity. The proposed approach makes it possible to identify the general genre and style characteristics of the romantic piano bagatelle

AN ANALYSIS OF THE GENRE, STYLE, AND INTERPRETATIVE ASPECTS OF FRANCIS POULENC\u27S PIANO SONATA FOR FOUR HANDS

Composed in the 20th century, Francis Poulenc\u27s Piano Sonata for Four Hands is a significant piece for piano duets. Its musical characteristics are represented in a unique way, as if it were an archive of its own. A piece of music where the composer paid close attention to every detail, even choreographing the posture and movement of the performers, which distinguished this piece from other piano four-hands compositions. The objective of this research is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the distinctive features of this sonata, along with the characteristics that are commonly found in piano duets prior to this composition

Autobiographical Migration Narratives as Catalysts of Identity Resilience

This implemented pilot study articulates a comprehensive framework for “research, action, and training” designed to enhance migrants’ resilience through interventions assisted by diaspora community organizations. Drawing from both social psychology and political science, this research synthesizes the existing literature on assisted resilience, placing particular emphasis on the creation of autobiographical narratives as tools for bolstering cultural identity and self-actualization during the migrant integration process. By employing autobiographic qualitative interviews framed within a family intergenerational dialogue this investigation interrogates cultural identity transformation and resilience mechanisms, delineating protective factors that facilitate migrant integration, with a specific focus on the Romanian American diaspora in Minnesota. The discussions elucidate themes of cultural shock, the interplay between assimilation and integration, language acquisition as a vehicle for cultural retention, and the multifaceted nature of belonging within host societies. Participants\u27 reflections on the complexities of acculturation underscore how familial dialogues can shape perceptions of belonging and construct identity narratives that serve immediate contextual needs. The findings advocate for community-based historiography projects that leverage narrative methodologies to foster resilience, combat social marginalization, and enhance civic engagement. This article emphasizes the critical importance of culturally sensitive mechanisms in promoting narrative construction to strengthen familial bonds and establish supportive diaspora networks in increasingly polarized host societies

Associations Between Effort Capacity and Cognitive Processes in Basketball Players

Introduction: The game of basketball often involves making quick and efficient decisions and complex technical-tactical actions, which have been shown by researchers to correlate with certain cognitive processes. Objective: We aimed to determine this link in a group of 21 basketball players (14.05±0.86 years old) who qualified for the U14 Final Tournament of the Romanian National Championship. Methods: We associated 3 types of visual memory (simple, dynamic and numerical) with 3 agility tests (Lane, Illinois, hexagon with randomized visual stimuli), 1 reaction speed test, 1 aerobic (Vameval shuttle) and 1 anaerobic (8x10+10 m) test and the test for determining the explosive force of the lower limbs. Results: Data analysis yielded 2 links between effort capacity and players’ cognitive level. Numerical memory was correlated with the Lane agility test (p=0.041), and the reaction speed of the dominant upper limb with the fatigue factor yielded by the anaerobic lactacid capacity test (p=0.05). Conclusions: Our study demonstrates that an athlete with a significant exertional capacity does not require a high cognitive level, this aspect needs to be demonstrated by future research.  Article history: Received 2025 May 18; Revised 2025 July 04; Accepted 2025 July 15; Available online 2025 July 30; Available print 2025 August 3

Considerations Regarding the Parents’ Opinions About the Physical Education Lesson in the Secondary Schools of Reșița

Parents’ attitudes towards physical education lessons can have a significant impact on children and their participation in physical education lessons. If parents show disinterest or have a negative attitude towards the lesson and the physical education teacher, children may receive a signal that this activity is not important, causing them to be reluctant to engage in physical education lessons, to avoid these activities, to engage in sedentary activities, which can contribute to increasing the risk of obesity and other conditions. The purpose of our research is to find out the opinions of the parents of secondary school students regarding the lesson of physical education and sports. We used the questionnaire-based survey method and the graphic method. Questionnaires were applied to the parents of students from educational institutions in the municipality of Reșita. The answers showed that parents are aware of the importance of physical education and sports classes alongside other school subjects, sports making children happier, more motivated in terms of choosing a sport to practice in their free time.
