Accuracy improvement of Deep Neural Networks through preprocessing and neural structure tuning techniques. An approach to time-series models.
The popularization of Deep Neural Network models in recent years has led to an increase in the number of techniques to increase the accuracy of these models. However, it is difficult to choose which of these methods are optimal for a specific problem, as well as to achieve optimal values of their corresponding hyperparameters to achieve a quality model. This project aims to provide a comparison of these by applying them to a time series prediction problem.
A series of tests have been carried out in which RNN, GRU, LSTM and BiLSTM type architectures have been combined with hyperparameter optimization methods among which Grid Search, Random Search, Bayesian Optimization and Genetic Algorithms have been highlighted.
The results show that, one should opt for a Grid Search + GRU type configuration, which reaches an MSE value of 167.60, compared to 240.44 in the benchmark model or Random Search + RNN type configuration if one seeks speed of execution, sacrificing precision

Anaerobic digestion in wastewater reactors of separated organic fractions from wholesale markets waste. Compositional and batch characterization. Energy and environmental feasibility
Artículos en revistasThe food industry is one of the major industrial sectors in Europe and Spain, and therefore one of the major waste emitters, especially organic ones that can be classified into three different fractions (fruit and vegetables, meat and fish). One way to treat this waste environmentally responsible, energy-sustainable and economically cost-effective is anaerobic digestion. The generated biogas can be used as fuel and renewable energy source (providing a solution to the energy problem from an environmental point of view). As there must be a sewage treatment plant with anaerobic digesters in the wholesale markets, and if waste is treated on it, these facilities can be converted into power generators.
It has been studied that, when treated along with sludge from a UASB reactor, the residue of fruit and vegetables produces about 900 ml per 100 g of residue with a stable and robust process; the meat residue generates 1300 ml of biogas per 100 g with a process that is slightly affected by the accumulation of acidic elements, internally reversed by the buffer effect of ammonia released; and the fish residue generates 700 ml of biogas, but with very low novels of methane since the process is inhibited early by excessive accumulation of ammonia.
The proposed solution is positive, and the methods used to determine it are novel and robust, such as the use of hydrogen as an indicator of process stability. A deep characterization of the development of the process is provided, and feasibility for its application at the industrial level is studied. It is thus proven that wholesale markets can be converted into power generating plants up to 600 kW, assuming a reduction of up to 70 tons of CO2 equivalent (50%) if the generated biogas is used, replacing a conventional source such as natural gas.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Offline Optimal Power Flow and Data Driven Control for the Reduction of the Carbon Footprint of a Distribution Network
This study aims to develop a methodology that provides a reduction of the carbon footprint of a distribution network. First, a centralized optimal power flow is develop in order to reduce the emissions by optimally charging and discharging the batteries installed in the grid, harnessing the variation of the carbon intensity of the grid. This process enables the creation of a database of optimal setpoints that underpins the following step of the methodology: the design and testing of local voltage controls. By means of regression techniques, the intention is to develop voltage controls that are driven by the measures available in each of the nodes; thus, providing an alternative to the centralized operation of the grid. Moreover, an economic and environmental assessment is carried out in order to evaluate the performance of the action of the batteries, and comparing the investment cost with a hypothetical carbon tax.
Therefore, this study is intended to be an initial research about the ability of the batteries to provide an effective reduction of the emissions. Furthermore, it aims to analyze the challenges that decentralization of the control brings to the operation of the grid. By focusing on this two objectives, the intention is to motivate further and deeper research on both the subjects
After the analysis of the efficiency of the electroporation and oxidation methods for the disinfection of waste effluents with the Geodesic method, according to each objective, the following conclusions have been reached:
With regard to the study of the disinfection efficiency of the isolated electroporation method and the electroporation method combined with the oxidation process, it has been concluded that, in order to achieve a balance between high disinfection power without generating an excess of by-products, the optimum treatment conditions are to work with high flows and low oxidation times.
According to the study of the concentration of free chlorine and the efficiency of disinfection of the equipment under different operating conditions, it can be seen that the percentage of disinfection is adequate in all the tests, being between 99 and 100% in all of them. At the same time, the longer the field is active, the more free chlorine concentration is measured; this is logical, since the longer the electroporation is active, the higher the degree of disinfection takes place, and by adding the same chlorine you get more free chlorine. So we conclude that, for each flow rate and duration of the test cycle, the point of optimum working conditions will be the one that leaves less free chlorine in the water, which coincides with the point of least active field time.
Finally, in relation to the study on the elimination performance of Legionella, it is observed that, when the water is submitted to electroporation, the concentration of Legionella grows abruptly due to the breakage of the membranes of certain spores that contain the bacterium, so that this bacterium is released into the water. In spite of this, when a time of one hour is left for the chlorine to exercise its oxidation potential, an extraordinary reduction of the concentration of this bacterium in the water is observed, almost in all the cases verging on 100% disinfection
