EXAMINING THE INFLATION AND INFLATION UNCERTAINTY RELATIONSHIP FOR TURKIC REPUBLICS: FURTHER EVIDENCE FROM STOCHASTIC VOLATILITY IN MEAN MODEL WITH TIME-VARYING PARAMETERS
Hazelnut by-products as a valuable resource: Lipid peroxidation inhibition effect, bioaccessibility and antidiabetic properties
The aim of this study is to determine the chemical and molecular properties of hazelnut by-products, to measure the bioaccessibility values of phenolic compounds found in the structure of these wastes and to reveal their antidiabetic and lipid peroxidation (LPO) inhibition effects. The highest moisture and protein content were found in skin samples with 6.33% and 7.70%, respectively. The predominant fatty acid in hazelnut skin is oleic acid, which constitutes 78.65% of the total fatty acid composition. The highest antioxidant activity value was measured in the shell with an IC50 value of 19.08 mg/mL. The sample with the highest content of gallic acid and protocatechuic acid content was the skin extract. The dominant phenolic component in the shell and husk samples was kaempferol, while in the skin sample it was rutin. Shell bioaccessibility was found to be much higher for o-coumaric acid (45.83%), rutin (49.25%) and kaempferol (46.32%) components. The bioaccessibility of the shell sample in total phenolic concentration was measured as 45.87%. The highest LPO inhibition value belonged to the shell sample with an IC50 of 4.50 mg/mL, while the lowest value belonged to the husk sample with an IC50 value of 25.03 mg/mL. The highest antidiabetic effect was observed in the shell sample with values of 3.55 mg/mL and 25.44 mg/mL for α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition, respectively. The highest recovery belonged to 4-Hydroxybenzoic acid in the skin sample. As a result, it was concluded that hazelnut by-products, especially the shell, exhibit high antioxidant effects, have antidiabetic and LPO inhibition properties thanks to their bioactive components and high bioaccessibility values. Thus, they have valuable usage opportunities in the fields of food, pharmacology and medicine
Comparative assessment of brucellosis detection in dogs: In-house ELISA versus Rose Bengal Plate Test utilizing rough and smooth antigens
Brucella canis and smooth Brucella species infections havebeen reported in dogs globally. In endemic countries such as Türkiye, dogs canbe infected with both species. The exact incidence of canine brucellosis inTürkiye is unknown. This study aims to investigate the seroprevalence ofbrucellosis in stray dogs undergoing sterilization in Van province, easternTürkiye. In this study, a comprehensive approach was used to ensure reliableincidence of Brucella spp in the dogs. We used the Rose Bengal Plate Test(RBPT) with both antigens from smooth Brucella abortus S99 (RBPT-S) and roughB. canis (RBPT-R) Brucella species to analyze 150 dog blood serum samples. Forthe in-house enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (i-ELISA), we used a roughLipopolysaccharide (LPS) antigen from the rough strain (i-ELISA-R) and anO-polysaccharide (O-PS) antigen (i-ELISA-S) from the smooth strain obtainedfrom the OIE Reference Laboratory in Weybridge, UK. Each serum sample underwentanalysis using a total of four serological tests, ensuring a thorough andreliable evaluation. Out of 150 serum samples analyzed, 32 (21.3 %) testedpositive using the RBPT-S test and 12 (6.6 %) with the RBPT-R test. Thei-ELISA-R identified 8 (5.3 %) positive samples, while the i-ELISA-S detected27 (18 %) positive samples. The presence of B. canis and other Brucella spp.infections was detected in the dog in this region, revealing that caninebrucellosis was primarily caused by smooth Brucella species. The test beased-smooth antigens identified a significantly higher number of positive samplescompared to the test beased -rough antigens test, suggesting a potentialdifference in sensitivity or specificity between the two methods. Thissituation was considered an important risk for both dogs and humans,underscoring the urgent need for further research and the immediateimplementation of public health measures to address this issue.Brucella canis and smooth Brucella species infections have been reported in dogs globally. Predicting future distribution and generation number of mulberry scale, Pseudaulacapis pentagona under climate change scenarios in Turkiye
Mulberry scale, Pseudaulacaspis pentagona (Targioni-Tozzetti) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) is a serious pest of orchards, forests, and woody ornamental vegetation in Turkiye. Climate change may significantly affect the bio-ecology and the geographical distribution of the scale insect. The development threshold (C) and the temperature constant (K) of P. pentagona were determined by the linear regression model to study of this scenario. Non-linear regression models were used to estimate the optimum temperature and the low and the high temperature thresholds. The possible new areas of spread of P. pentagona in Turkiye were forecasted until the year 2098 by using HadGEM2-ES RCP4.5 and HadGEM2-ES RCP8.5 climate scenarios together with changes in generation time and positive intrinsic rate of increase of Mulberry scale. These values were obtained at different temperatures under laboratory conditions. The terrestrial annual average temperature grid data with 20 × 20 km resolution, obtained from Turkish State Meteorological Service, were deployed to create the projection maps. According to the results obtained, it is predicted that P. pentagona will be able to complete its development and would cause an outbreak in Black Sea, Eastern Anatolia, South-East Anatolia regions, where it could not develop or complete its generation in reference periods 1971–2000, until the year 2070. If the average temperature continues increase, it will not be possible for P. pentagona to develop on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, because high temperatures negatively affect reproductive capacity

Pyrrole-Tethered Bisbenzoxazole Derivatives: Apoptosis-Inducing Agents Targeting Breast Cancer Cells
This study presents the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of a series of novel pyrrole-tethered bisbenzoxazole (PTB) derivatives as potential apoptosis-inducing agents targeting the MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line. The anticancer activity of these compounds was evaluated in vitro using the MTT assay, with tamoxifen serving as the reference therapeutic agent. Compounds B8, B14, and B18 demonstrated remarkable cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cells, exhibiting approximately 8-fold lower IC50 values compared to tamoxifen, while showing minimal effects on healthy fibroblasts. Further investigations revealed that these compounds effectively induced early-stage apoptosis and selectively arrested the cell cycle at the G1 phase in cancer cells. Gene expression analysis confirmed selective activation of the caspase-9-mediated apoptotic pathway in MCF-7 cells, providing insights into their underlying molecular mechanisms. These findings highlight the promising potential of PTB derivatives as potent anticancer agents, laying the groundwork for the development of targeted therapies for breast cancer that leverage apoptosis induction for improved therapeutic outcomes.</p

Changes in Some Seedling Growth Parameters, Nutrient Content and Enzyme Activity in Different Melon (Cucumis melo L.) Genotypes under Deficit Irrigation Conditions
Increasing need for drought adaptation measures to conserve water and sustain crop yield in water-scarce regions is driven by severe and recurrent droughts. Achieving sustainable production entails studying deficit irrigation as a means to enhance water productivity and selecting genotypes resilient to soil water deficits. In the present study, 17 different melon (Cucumis melo L.) genotypes collected from the Van Lake Basin and 3 hybrids and 1 standard melon cultivar for control purposes were used for this purpose. The study was carried out under climate room conditions. Two different irrigation levels (I100: 100% full irrigation, I50: 50% Deficit Irrigation-DI) were applied in the study for deficit irrigation. Water applications started with the emergence of the second true leaf of the plants and, after one-month, different growth, nutrient, and enzyme contents of the seedlings were determined. In general, it was determined that deficit water application negatively affected seedling growth, and root dry matter, stomatal opening and density, potassium, APX and SOD enzymes, and MDA content increased, while the other tested parameters decreased. The melon genotypes of the Van Lake Basin were found to vary in response to deficit irrigation treatments
COMPOSITION OF ESSENTIAL OIL OF TWO VARIETIES WILD MINT (MENTHA LONGIFOLIA SUBSP. TYPHOIDES VAR. CALLIANTHA, MENTHA LONGIFOLIA SUBSP. TYPHOIDES VAR. TYPHOIDES)
Two wild mint taxa Mentha longifolia L. Hudson subsp. typhoides (Briq) Harley var. calliantha (Stapf) Briq. and Mentha longifolia (L.) Hudson subsp. typhoides (Briq) Harley var. typhoides naturally growing in Mus province of Türkiye were cultivated in the experimental field of Mus Alparslan University in 2020 and 2022 growing seasons to determine essential oil content and compositions. According to the GC-MS analyses, 28 essential oil components were determined in the var. calliantha variety, with the pulegone (29.06%), caryophyllene oxide (14.28%), piperitone oxide (7.85%), thymol (5.98%), piperitenone (5.24%), β-linalool (5.23%), and linalyl acetate (4.28%) as main component. In the var. typhoides, 28 essential oil components were determined, and the main components were piperitenone oxide (31.57%), carvacrol (12.97%), linalool (11.63%), cis piperitone oxide (9.98%), α-pinene (5.51%) and borneol (3.44%)
Metagenomic comparison of the microbial load colonizing lucerne hay and gum astralagus (Astragalus glycyphyllos) in ruminants
Context: Rumen microbiota plays an important role in the evaluation of roughages. Gum astragalus hay is a non-traditional roughage in ruminant feeding, and it is curious how it affects rumen microbiota in comparison with lucerne hay (LH). Aim: This study compares the in vitro true digestibility and rumen fermentation parameters of lucerne hay (LH) and gum astralagus hay (Astragalus glycyphyllos, AG), as well as the metagenomic profile of the bacterial community in sheepruminal fluid following 48 h in vitro incubation with either forage type. Methods: The study was carried out in vitro in a Daisy incubator. A total of 100 samples, including 48 samples from each of the experimental roughages and two blind samples, were weighed into F57 bags for in vitro incubation with ruminal fluid, obtained from the rumen of two sheep fed on roughage and brought to the slaughterhouse from a private enterprise. Key results: Crude protein (CP) content of AG was higher (P < 0.0014) and ADF content (P < 0.001) was lower than LH. After 48 h incubation of roughage samples, AG was superior to LH in terms of in vitro true digestibility parameters (true digestion of roughages, true dry matter digestion, and true organic matter digestion; P < 0.001). Taxonomy results of bacteria colonizing both roughages were obtained at genus and species level, according to the Shannon and Simpsons index. The bacterial community of the genus Provetalla was dominant in both forages, whereas Pseudomonas genus bacteria were observed in AG, but not in LH. According to the total Operational Taxonomc Units (OTU) in the samples, it was observed that LH and AG had similarity, as well as diversity in terms of species. Due to the current shortage of roughage, it is very important to consider AG as an alternative source of roughage in animal nutrition. Conclusions: The differences in nutrient composition between the two roughage types also indicate differences in the composition and density of bacterial microbiota. These results were very important for improving the nutrient utilization efficiency of roughages in the desired direction. Implication: The nutrient composition and in vitro digestion parameter results of AG were comparable to LH, and there were similarities, as well as differences, in the colonized bacterial community in both roughages
