    Examining the variables influencing religious leaders' interest in Bhagavad Gita studies: A case study of susut sub-district

    Background: The Bhagavad Gita is a sacred text in the Hindu tradition that contains teachings about duty (dharma), devotion (bhakti), wisdom (jnana), and discipline (yoga). This research aims to understand the factors that influence the interest of Pemangku (Hindu priests) in Susut District, Bangli Regency, Bali, in studying the Bhagavad Gita. Methods: Using qualitative research methods, data were obtained through a combination of open and closed questionnaires comprising 34 questions. Finding: The research results show that the majority of Pemangku have undergraduate education (30%) and junior high school education (30%), with 50% of them having never read the Bhagavad Gita. The primary motivations for those who study the Bhagavad Gita are self-development, spiritual improvement, and facing life challenges. Despite high interest, the Pemangku face obstacles such as limited access to learning resources (50%) and difficulty understanding the contents of the text without guidance. The discussion reveals the importance of a structured learning approach involving mentors or teachers and strengthening social support in the learning process. Additionally, adaptive and accessible learning methods need to be developed to bridge the gap between ancient texts and modern life contexts. Conclusion This research concludes that the interest of Pemangku in the Bhagavad Gita is influenced by educational background, personal motivation, learning methods, and access to learning resources. Recommendations are provided to improve the accessibility and quality of learning this sacred text in the future

    Systematic study of political ecology and the role of local community in the development of the Ibu Kota Nusantara

    Background: The development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) represents a transformative initiative aimed at relocating the capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan to mitigate environmental degradation and promote equitable regional growth. This study investigates the ecological and social implications of IKN development by reviewing relevant literature and emphasizing the role of local communities and pentahelix collaboration in fostering sustainable outcomes. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using PRISMA and SALSA methodologies to screen 215 articles, of which 15 met the inclusion criteria for detailed analysis. Findings: The review revealed significant challenges—including ecological disruption, social inequality, and the marginalization of indigenous rights—while identifying pentahelix collaboration as a critical mechanism for integrating efforts from government, academia, the private sector, media, and community stakeholders. Conclusion: The study concludes that enhancing pentahelix collaboration and empowering local communities are essential for mitigating adverse impacts and achieving sustainable, inclusive development in the IKN context. Novelty/Originality of this article: This research introduces a novel framework that links political ecology with social justice and ecological sustainability, offering innovative insights for policy interventions that prioritize long-term equity and environmental stewardship

    Post-consumer plastic waste management strategy: A study of producer responsibility implementation

    Background: The dynamic urban lifestyle changes human behaviour in selecting consumer goods products. Urban communities prefer goods in suitable and economical packaging when carrying out their activities. This study was conducted in Jakarta and aimed to analyze the perceptions of consumers, producers, and the role of the informal sector in waste management so that alternative producers' responsibility schemes can be formulated in the management of post-consumption plastic waste. Methods: In this study, quantitative and qualitative methods were used with data analysis using descriptive statistics. In the next step, an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) has been prepared for identifying the best alternative scheme of EPR for post-consumer plastic waste management. Findings: They showed that the highest criteria value (0,27) that was considered in the EPR implementation was the environmental impacts potential criteria. At the stage of selecting alternative EPR schemes, the highest to lowest scores respectively are partnership schemes with waste management organizations (2.83), product design optimization (2.78), post-consumption waste recall (2.11), and development of recycling facility (1,28). There are some fundamental issues that are considered in the waste management system in Indonesia, including limited capacity for waste management in the regions, inadequate infrastructure, application of regulations, and lack of public awareness, including in the consumer goods manufacturing industry. Conclusion: The results of the study emphasize the need for the implementation of a circular economy, especially in the field of plastic waste. Novelty/Originality of this article: Through the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) concept approach, this research sheds light that the manufacturing industry is more encouraged to contribute to their post- consumer waste management

    Examining the impact of communication during disasters: A case of perennial flooding along the Niger

    Background: Communication remains a valuable tool needed for the survival of humans and societies. Even in the midst of natural and man-made disasters, communication has proven to be an indispensable component. Therefore, this study examines the impact of communication during disasters in Nigeria. Specifically, the study is on the use of communication during flood events along the River Niger which flows through some states in the country. Methods: This study is based on the theoretical framework of the disaster communication management model. This study focused on three states of Anambra, Edo and Kogi for the study. Using Cochran’s statistical formula for sample size determination, the study sampled 664 from the population of the three states and used questionnaires as the data collection instrument. Commencing in 2022, the study spanned over a period of three years as online surveys and physical administration of questionnaires were explored to collect data within the stipulated time. Findings: The study findings revealed that several communication media and channels were explored for exchange during flood disasters and these were group, interpersonal and customary channels such as town spokespersons as well as traditional media of radio and TV. Furthermore, the study found that while interpersonal, group and indigenous media channels were effective, the same could not be said of traditional media and new media platforms. Conclusion: Disaster communication is an effective way towards disaster management, and among others, recommends that stakeholders should prioritize risk communication to minimize losses caused by disasters especially floods in Nigeria. The study revealed that confusion, infrastructure damage and lack of knowledge on community-based approaches are some of the challenges faced in communication during disasters. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study highlights the effectiveness of interpersonal, group and indigenous media communication in flood disaster response, which proved to be more effective than traditional and digital media

    The role of political influence in shaping national energy policy and environmental sustainability

    Background: Indonesia's efforts to transition to low-carbon energy are one part of rescaling environmental governance through a process of decentralization, and many actors at the governance level are involved in the transition to low-carbon energy. This research discusses the direction of energy supply policy in Indonesia in the future and its relationship with interested parties, especially the central government. Methods: This study uses literature study and document analysis with stakeholder mapping and PESTEL analysis to examine the energy transition policy in Indonesia, especially the electricity sector. The main focus is on the political aspect by considering economic, social, technological, environmental, and legal factors. Findings: The results show that regulatory and institutional areas have been restricted during the energy plan-making process, all centralized under central government control making it impossible for local action to take place. However, how sub-national actors can harness this space is influenced by many variables, such as political-economic structures, public participation, and power relations. Conclusion: It can increase understanding of the energy transition at every level and offer useful policy advice to engage all interested parties at national and local levels. The openness of the energy transition should be reformed and reduced from the non-substantial political influence for the matter of all Indonesian people. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study provides a unique perspective on Indonesia's energy transition by critically examining the role of governance decentralization in shaping policy directions. Unlike previous studies that focus solely on technological or economic aspects, this research integrates political, social, and environmental dimensions through stakeholder mapping and PESTEL analysis.

    Transition risk analysis in the mining sector and its implications for environmental conflict: A Case study approach

    Background: Climate change has become a major challenge of the 21st century, driving a global transition toward low-carbon energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with a target of Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2050. The mining sector, particularly coal, faces significant transition risks, such as declining coal demand, rising operational costs, and social and environmental impacts due to increasingly stringent emission reduction policies. PT ABC, as a major coal producer in Indonesia, must adapt by shifting to renewable energy, reducing its dependence on coal, and managing transition risks while seizing opportunities for energy diversification. Methods: This study analyzes the transition risks faced by PT ABC, focusing on the impact of global climate policies, fluctuations in international carbon prices, and the shift toward renewable energy on the company’s financial performance. Findings: The analysis shows that the company needs to reduce emissions by approximately 993,478 tons of CO₂eq per year to meet Indonesia’s emission reduction targets in the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (ENDC), with an additional annual cost of around IDR 29.8 billion at a carbon price of IDR 30,000 per ton. If carbon prices increase, costs could reach IDR 140.5 billion or IDR 198.7 billion by 2030. This study identifies four main transition risks: government policy changes, carbon price fluctuations, declining coal demand, and the implementation of a carbon tax. Conclusion: To mitigate financial and operational impacts, PT ABC needs to adopt environmentally friendly technologies, diversify investments in renewable energy, and improve energy efficiency. These risk mitigation efforts are expected to reduce negative impacts and support the company’s operational sustainability amid the global energy transition. Novelty/Originality of this article: By quantifying emission reduction costs and potential carbon price impacts, it offers insights into strategic measures for coal companies adapting to the low-carbon transition

    Dynamics of surface water resource management towards fulfilling agricultural irrigation

    Background: The dynamics of surface water resources and their influence on agriculture irrigation in Kano State, Nigeria, 2015-2025, are displayed in this research. This study aims to examine the influence of surface water availability changes on irrigation potential in semi-arid catchment. With looming uncertainty concerning water scarcity, particularly in Northern Nigeria, spatial-temporal dynamics of the surface water are critical to sustainable agriculture planning. Current studies have used satellite-based indices to monitor changes in water bodies and emphasized that such changes must be associated with climatic factors and land use patterns for irrigation development decision-making. Methods: Remote sensing data, including Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) from Landsat and Sentinel data, and rainfall data from the CHIRPS dataset, were used for the study. Spatiotemporal modeling methodology was used that included NDWI trend analysis, NDWI–rainfall relation, overlay with cover of cultivated land, and zonal statistics at the Local Government Area (LGA) level. Findings: Findings show that there is general surface wetness expansion in the southern and central regions of Kano State owing to enhanced irrigation activities, heightened water holding capacity, and possible aquifer recharge. Conclusion: The study concludes that water resource management in Kano must be specially crafted to overcome localized climatic stress conditions and spatial hydrological imbalance to facilitate sustainable irrigation under semi-arid conditions.Ground-truth verification is however absent, which limits the accuracy of surface wetness estimates, and future incorporation of field-based hydrological observations is recommended. The findings present actionable advice for policymakers on improving irrigation strategy formulation and adaptive water management in semi-arid climates.     Innovation of edible coating based on sugarcane bagasse and avocado seeds with integrated moringa leaf fortification and QR code technology as fruit protection

    Background: Fruits are one of the leading agricultural commodities in Indonesia, with abundant availability and high consumption rates. Improper fruit storage can cause fruits to spoil quickly and increase organic waste. Sugarcane bagasse waste is one of the largest contributors to organic waste in Indonesia's agricultural sector. On the other hand, avocado seeds are often considered waste because people generally only consume the fruit flesh and discard the seeds without utilizing them. Both types of waste have the potential to be used as biodegradable and environmentally friendly edible coatings for fruits. This scientific study aims to explain the edible coating made from sugarcane bagasse and avocado seeds fortified with moringa leaves as an innovation in addressing issues in the food industry, particularly regarding the quality of fruit flesh that easily spoils due to improper packaging. Methods: The edible coating was produced through the extraction of sugarcane bagasse, avocado seeds, and moringa leaves, followed by homogenization for coating preparation. The edible coating can then be applied to the fruit. The writing method used in this scientific work is based on literature studies from data and information obtained through books, scientific journals, and several relevant sources. Findings: The results indicate that edible coating based on sugarcane bagasse waste has the potential to maintain fruit quality because it contains approximately 40-50% cellulose, which can be used as a base material for natural biopolymers in edible coating. The addition of avocado seeds acts as an antibacterial, antioxidant, starch, and lipid to form a strong, flexible, and water-resistant edible coating structure. The addition of moringa leaves acts as a fortifier for the fruit. Conclusion: The development of edible coatings based on sugarcane bagasse waste and avocado seeds will create an innovative fruit wrapper that preserves fruit quality and is environmentally friendly. Novelty/Originality of this article: Edible coatings on the market generally focus only on the wrapping layer to protect the fruit, without considering the nutritional content of the fruit, which decreases over time. Fortifying edible coatings with moringa leaves can help maintain and enhance fruit nutrients while preventing nutrient loss due to oxidation. This innovation is integrated with barcode technology to provide information about the advantages of edible coatings based on sugarcane bagasse and avocado seeds fortified with moringa leaves

    Spatial and economic assessment of agropolitan zones with focus on rice and coconut: Implications for sustainable agricultural development

    Background: Banyumas Regency is one of the districts that has good potential in the agricultural sector. Banyumas Regency itself since 2011 has been developing the Agropolitan Area listed in the RTRW of Banyumas Regency. However, in reality this policy has not been able to work, both systemically and spatially. Therefore, this study tries to assess how the development of the Banyumas Regency Agropolitan Area will be in the future. Methods: By using two commodity bases namely rice and coconut to be developed, this study assesses which locations are suitable for farming areas, production centers, as well as markets and urban centers in the Agropolitan Area of Banyumas Regency. By analyzing the suitability of the village location, namely the suitability of land for farming areas and a composite index with a z score, it can be determined which areas are suitable for the development of the Banyumas Regency Agropolitan Area. By also looking at the characteristics and accessibility, it is also assessed how the connectivity between functional areas in the Agropolitan Area of Banyumas Regency is assessed. Findings: The findings indicate that the entire Agropolitan Area in Banyumas is suitable for rice and coconut cultivation, with 11 villages identified as optimal locations for production centers and four villages deemed highly suitable for market and urban areas. Conclusion: This study conclude that rice and coconut have good land suitability in the Agropolitan Area of Banyumas Regency, with six villages unsuitable for farming and four villages unsuitable for coconut cultivation. Novelty/Originality of this article: This research contributes novel insights into spatial planning and economic development by integrating commodity-based land suitability with accessibility analysis, providing a strategic framework for sustainable agricultural development in Banyumas Regency

    Digital business skills empowerment: Enhancing power aspects and economic independence of underprivileged orphans

    Background: This research is motivated by the condition of underprivileged orphans who are unable to pursue higher education and secure decent jobs due to the death of their parents and the poverty they experience. Meanwhile, the empowerment of underprivileged orphans, which is typically carried out by orphanages, is usually only done until they graduate from high school. Therefore, further empowerment is needed for underprivileged orphans to achieve their welfare. This research aims to explain the empowerment and aspects of power of underprivileged orphans developed through the ABC Jakarta program. Methods: This research uses a qualitative and descriptive approach conducted from March to June 2024. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, participation observations, and literature studies involving twelve informants, namely four program implementers and eight students. Finding: The results of this research show that the empowerment of underprivileged orphans by ABC Jakarta, which focuses on digital business, consists of new student admissions, student orientation, education and training classes, service, internship, employment, and graduation. The process of empowering underprivileged orphans can be seen from increasing students' capacity, knowledge, skills, and learning motivation. A strength perspective is found in ABC Jakarta activities, which focus on developing the capacity and potential possessed by the underprivileged orphans as students. Empowerment is carried out so that the underprivileged orphans can have power. The aspects of power developed in this program are the power to make personal choices and determine life opportunities, define needs, think, access and utilize resources, and engage in economic activities. This power enables underprivileged orphans to improve their lives. Conclusion: The empowerment process in ABC Jakarta emphasizes the potential of underprivileged orphans so that they can have aspects of empowerment in order to change their life for the better through employment. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty/originality of this article lies in analyzing ABC Jakarta’s empowerment model, which uniquely focuses on developing digital business skills to enhance underprivileged orphans’ power, choices, and economic independence
