Satellite-based cultivation scheduling for Eucheuma sp. using landsat-8 imagery in coastal aquaculture systems
Background: Seaweed cultivation in Jeneponto Regency has been practiced for a long time and has become the main livelihood for most people in Mallasoro Bay. In cultivating seaweed, obstacles often arise in the form of failure experienced by seaweed farmers or the quality of the harvest is not good. Methods: This study aims to develop a calendar for planting seaweed Eucheuma sp. in Mallasoro Bay, Jeneponto Regency based on sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a distribution obtained from Landsat-8 imagery. Findings: Processing of Sea Surface Temperature Imagery and Chlorophyll-a processed using ENVI 4.8 dan 5.3 software, satellite images used in clean conditions and no cloud disturbances. In this research, data analysis was carried out descriptively. The water temperature that is good for seaweed growth is 27-30°C, for the Mallasoro Bay Sea Surface Temperature, which is suitable for planting seaweed in April, May, June, July, August, September, October, and November. While the classification based on the criteria of chlorophyll-a trophic status in marine waters, namely the range < 1 mg/L is classified as Oligotrophic, 1-3 mg/L is classified as Mesotrophic, 3-5 mg/L is classified as Eutrophic, and > 5 mg/L is classified as hypertrophic. Conclusion: from the results of image analysis for the distribution of chlorophyll-a in Mallasoro Bay, it shows that Mallasoro Bay throughout the year is at the Mesotrophic level or the fertility level of the waters is quite fertile because it is in the range of 1-3 mg/L. so the seaweed planting calendar in Mallasoro Bay is obtained, namely in January, February, and December, equipment preparation such as cleaning and repair of seaweed planting equipment can be carried out, then at the end of March, May, July, and September, the procurement of seaweed seeds is carried out , in early of April, June, August, and October, Novelty/Originality of this article: it is possible to spread seaweed seeds, then in mid of May, July, September, and November, harvesting is carried out, so that seaweed cultivation in a year can be carried out 4 times cycle

The Editorial Board of Journal of Innovation Materials, Energy, and Sustainable Engineering hereby retracts the article entitled “Optimizing geothermal brine for balneological use: An integrated study of health, engineering, social, and economic dimesion”, published in Vol. 3, No. 1, 2025 and accessible at https://journal-iasssf.com/index.php/JIMESE/article/view/2108. This decision follows confirmation of significant similarity with a previously prepared work by another research team, which had been presented at the IIGCE 2024 Conference. Although the earlier work was not formally published at the time of submission, data from that study were reused without proper authorization. The matter was reported to the Editorial Board in August 2025 and verified through internal review. Analyzing the environmental readiness of coffee shop entrepreneurs: A study using the PLS-SEM approach and the theory of reasoned action
Background: The rapid growth of the coffee industry has increased consumption and the generation of spent coffee grounds waste, which poses environmental risks while offering economic potential. Although previous studies have discussed the hazards and benefits of this waste, comprehensive research on coffee shop entrepreneurs’ readiness to adopt environmentally friendly behavior remains limited. This study aims to examine their readiness by analyzing the influence of awareness, knowledge, attitude, intention, and actual behavior, based on the Theory of Reasoned Action. Methods: A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used. Data were collected in 2022 from 200 coffee shop entrepreneurs in Jakarta and Bekasi, selected as central coffee business areas. Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis was conducted, including outer model, goodness-of-fit, and inner model tests. Findings: The results showed that environmental awareness had no significant direct or indirect effect on environmentally friendly behavior. In contrast, knowledge significantly influenced the formation of positive attitudes, which mediated the relationship with intention and actual behavior. These results underscore the need to distinguish between awareness and knowledge, as only the latter demonstrated a meaningful impact on behavior formation. Well-informed attitudes enhanced behavioral intention, which in turn significantly influenced actual pro-environmental behavior. These findings validate the Theory of Reasoned Action and extend its applicability in explaining pro-environmental behavior adoption in waste-management-based entrepreneurship, particularly in coffee shop businesses. Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of environmental and entrepreneurial education regarding both the risks and economic potential of spent coffee grounds. Government support is needed to promote education, build enabling systems, and provide infrastructure to foster environmentally responsible behavior. Toward holistic education: Performance-based student affairs management with social and institutional collaboration
Background: Student management is an important aspect in school management that aims to provide the best educational services to students. In recent decades, research has emphasized the importance of performance-based student management in improving the quality of education. This approach focuses not only on administrative aspects, but also on the development of student character and competence through structured and measurable programs. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document analysis. The focus of the study includes student planning, student admissions, orientation, attendance arrangements, and student discipline. Findings: This study found that student management is carried out in a structured manner through activity planning, performance-based selection systems, new student orientation, attendance monitoring, and character development through extracurricular activities. The entire process is supported by the use of technology to enhance administrative efficiency and parental engagement. Conclusion: The implementation of performance-based student management can improve the quality of education and shape the character of students better. Schools need to strengthen the student selection system with a more comprehensive method and improve student development programs through a personal approach and the use of educational technology. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study offers new insights into the implementation of performance-based student management in Islamic-based high schools, which can be a model for other schools in improving the effectiveness of student management as a whole
Applying maslow’s motivation theory to enhance teacher productivity in islamic boarding schools
Background: Education is a fundamental pillar in developing high-quality human resources, with teachers playing a central role. Teacher productivity is strongly influenced by work motivation, which is closely linked to the fulfillment of needs based on Maslow’s hierarchy. This study aims to analyze the application of Maslow’s theory in improving teacher productivity, a pesantren-based school with an integrative curriculum. The focus is to identify dominant teacher needs and propose strategic recommendations to enhance motivation and productivity. Method: This qualitative descriptive study used structured and unstructured interviews with 14 teachers, participatory observation, and school document analysis. Data were thematically analyzed based on Maslow’s hierarchy; physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self-actualization needs. Findings: The study identified seven dominant teacher needs; (1) salary increase, (2) regular recognition, (3) modern learning facilities, (4) improved work infrastructure, (5) regular training, (6) enhanced school safety, and (7) healthcare access. Most teachers reported that physiological (salary) and esteem needs were not optimally fulfilled, while self-actualization (professional development opportunities) was relatively well-supported. Teachers generally responded positively to the work environment, although dissatisfaction in welfare and recognition affected motivation. Conclusion: Fulfilling Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is crucial for enhancing teacher productivity. Strategic recommendations include optimizing budgets for welfare, implementing performance-based rewards, improving support facilities, and ensuring continuous training. Schools should integrate responsive policies to foster a motivational work environment. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study offers practical insights for Islamic boarding schools implementing the independent curriculum. The analysis of teacher needs through Maslow’s framework within this unique setting provides a holistic policy recommendation, combining welfare, professional growth, and a culture of appreciation which is contributing to underexplored literature on teacher motivation in Islamic education institutions
Mediating role of electronic word of mouth 2.0 in the relationship between digital product quality and purchase intention
Background: In 2025, Indonesia’s telecommunications industry is dominated by three major providers using GSM-based technology: TSL, IDT, and PX. During the first quarter of 2025, the subscriber base of these leading operators reached significant numbers, with TSL serving 158.81 million users, IDT 95.4 million, and PX 58.8 million. Combined, these three providers accounted for a total of 348 million subscribers. This intense market landscape has fueled strong competition among prepaid card providers, pushing market players and producers to innovate and implement effective strategies in order to secure a competitive advantage. Methods: The sampling technique employed in this study is the snowball sampling method. For data analysis, the research applies Partial Least Squares (PLS), which represents a variance-based approach to Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). This method allows for the simultaneous testing of both the measurement model and the structural model, thereby providing a comprehensive framework for evaluating complex relationships among variables. Findings: The results of this study demonstrate that both Electronic Word of Mouth (E-WOM) and Product Quality significantly influence Purchase Intention. E-WOM was found to have a positive and significant effect on Purchase Intention (p= 0.00<0.05), indicating that consumers who are exposed to favorable online reviews and recommendations are more likely to purchase. Digital Product also showed a significant effect on E-WOM (p= 0.00<0.05), suggesting that high-quality products encourage consumers to share positive experiences through digital platforms. Furthermore, Digital Product directly affects Purchase Intention in a positive and significant manner (p= 0.009<0.05), confirming that perceptions of product excellence strengthen consumers’ purchasing decisions. Overall, these findings highlight that Digital Product not only directly increases Purchase Intention but also indirectly enhances it through its influence on E-WOM. Conclusion: The results show that Electronic Word of Mouth (E-WOM) has a positive and significant effect on Purchase Intention at TSL. In addition, Digital Product positively and significantly influences both E-WOM and Purchase Intention, confirming that better Digital Product not only encourages customers to share favorable feedback but also directly strengthens their intention to purchase. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty aspect refers to the new or innovative elements in a research study that distinguish it from previous work. It includes unique contributions, new methods, or findings that have not been explored before in the field
Sustainable plastic waste management practice based on community and stakeholder participation
Background: Plastic is used to package food, beverages, and other products in everyday life. Plastic waste can be a significant global problem, with social, economic, and environmental impacts if not managed properly. According to data from the National Waste Management Information System in 2024, plastic waste is the second-largest type of waste in Indonesia, accounting for 19.83% of the total waste. Practices that proactively involve the community and external support have not been explicitly discussed in previous research. This paper aims to analyze the practices that play a role in reducing the use of single-use plastics in supporting sustainable lifestyles. Methods: This study uses a systematic literature review based on the PRISMA framework. The method used combines qualitative and interpretive approaches based on a post-positivist paradigm, analyzing publications from 2021–2025 from several countries on sustainable practices and reducing single-use plastics through coding, thematic grouping, and gradual filtering to ensure relevance and reliability. Findings: The results reported that practices to prevent and reduce plastic waste are grouped into four points: plastic reduction policies and their impacts, public behavior towards plastics, plastic waste management and its effectiveness, and global support. These practices can be used as a reference for the community and external parties in achieving sustainable management of single-use plastic waste. Conclusion: Achieving sustainable management of single-use plastic waste depends on the integration of strict policies, behavioral change, effective waste management systems, and global collaboration to promote a circular economy that ensures environmental preservation for future generations. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty of this article lies in its systematic synthesis of global practices in reducing single-use plastic use, framed within the context of sustainable lifestyle transformation. The implementation of public sanitation policies to improve environmental health in urban communities
Background: Although sanitation policies have been implemented in many areas, there are still many challenges, such as limited infrastructure, lack of public awareness, and limited budgets for adequate sanitation management. Pangkep Regency, with its growing population, faces serious sanitation problems, especially in urban areas and densely populated neighbourhoods. Methods: This qualitative study aims to explore in depth the perceptions of the community and policy makers regarding the implementation of public sanitation policies and their impact on environmental health in urban areas of Pangkep Regency. Findings: The findings of this study show that although sanitation policies have been implemented in Pangkep Regency, their implementation still faces various obstacles. As many as 40% of sanitation facilities in urban areas do not meet hygiene and safety standards, while 60% of sanitation facilities in densely populated neighbourhoods experience problems in managing liquid waste and garbage, which has the potential to pollute the environment. Conclusion: Some of the main problems found are limited sanitation infrastructure, lack of public awareness, and limited funds, which affect the success of sanitation policies. Novelty/Originality of this article: This article focuses on sanitation conditions in Pangkep Regency, directly analysing the obstacles, impacts, and challenges of sanitation policies in urban areas and densely populated neighbourhoods. This study highlights the importance of adequate sanitation infrastructure in the success of policies and links the lack of proper sanitation facilities to the high prevalence of sanitation-related diseases
Comparison of LSTM and RNN model performance in predicting F-18 NaF kinetics in prostate cancer bone metastasis based on PET/CT
Background: Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET/CT) imaging using F-18 NaF is an important modality for evaluating bone metastasis in prostate cancer. The accuracy of this tracer kinetics prediction can improve monitoring of therapeutic response. Although Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) have been used for modeling sequential data, no comprehensive study has specifically compared their performance for predicting F-18 NaF uptake in prostate cancer, despite the clinical importance of cost and PET/CT service availability. Methods: This study analyzed data from nine patients in the NaF PROSTATE dataset The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA). SUVmean was extracted from PET/CT imaging series. Bidirectional LSTM and RNN models with dropout layers were developed. Evaluation was performed using R², RMSE, MAE metrics, a nd kinetic analysis via biexponential curve fitting to assess the biological plausibility of predictions. Findings: Evaluation of model LSTM demonstrated superior performance than RNN. Kinetic curve analysis confirmed that LSTM was able to reproduce uptake and clearance patterns more stably and physiologically than RNN, which showed fluctuations. These findings are consistent with the theoretical advantage of LSTM in handling long - term dependencies. Conclusion: LSTM is proven to be superior to RNN in predicting the kinetics of F-18 NaF in prostate cancer bone metastases, both statistically and clinically. Its accuracy and stability support its potential application in molecular imaging and therapy monitoring. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study provides quantitative evidence of LSTM's superiority over RNN for predicting F-18 NaF kinetics, using an innovative validation approach through kinetic curve analysis that enriches clinical assessment beyond conventional statistical metrics
Cultural normalization of open waste burning and the escalation of forest fire risks
Background: Over time, open waste burning has evolved into a culturally embedded routine that heightens forest fire risks in underserved areas, while the socio cultural dimensions of this issue remain largely underexplored despite increasing technical and policy efforts. This research examines how the cultural normalization of open waste burning contributes to rising forest fire risks in Indonesia. The study draws on Mary Douglas’s Cultural Theory of Risk, which explains how environmental threats like fire and waste are interpreted through culturally constructed boundaries of order and danger. Methods: A qualitative approach was employed using secondary data analysis. Data sources include peer reviewed articles, policy documents, and reputable news media based on thematic and contextual relevance. Thematic analysis was conducted using both inductive and deductive coding. Findings: The findings reveal that open waste burning is a normalized household practice, often passed down across generations and reinforced by structural limitations and weak regulatory enforcement. Cultural perceptions of waste and collective identity further embed these behaviors. Although the study does not involve primary data, consistency across sources strengthens the analysis. Conclusion: Addressing the cultural acceptance of open burning is crucial to reducing forest fire risks. Effective mitigation requires strategies that are grounded in local social and cultural realities to ensure long term environmental and social relevance. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study highlights the socio-cultural dimensions of open waste burning as an overlooked driver of forest fire risks. By applying Mary Douglas’s Cultural Theory of Risk, it offers a new perspective on how culturally embedded practices shape environmental hazards beyond technical and policy approaches
