    Exploring the interplay of product quality and service attributes in consumer purchase decisions: Insights from sustainable business practices

    Background: Understanding the factors that influence customer purchase decisions is essential in the competitive culinary industry. This study aims to examine the interplay between product quality and service attributes, alongside location, menu variation, and price, in shaping customer behavior at Takashimura Kudus, a local culinary business. Previous studies have highlighted the importance of these factors individually, but their combined effects remain underexplored. Methods: The study employed a quantitative research design, using purposive sampling to collect data from 100 respondents. A structured questionnaire measured consumer perceptions of key variables using a Likert scale. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to identify both individual and collective influences of the factors on purchase decisions. Findings: Results indicate that menu variation is the only variable with a positive and significant individual effect on purchase decisions, while location, product quality, service quality, and price do not show significant individual effects. However, these factors collectively influence purchase decisions significantly. This suggests that businesses must adopt a comprehensive strategy that integrates these elements to meet consumer expectations effectively. Conclusion: The study highlights the critical role of menu diversity as a driver of consumer behavior and the need for businesses to address multiple factors simultaneously to remain competitive.     Analysis of factors affecting the Environmental Quality Index (EQI) and its implications for sustainable development

    Background: The Environmental Quality Index (EQI) reflects environmental performance and sustainability, with DKI Jakarta scoring 54.57—below its target. This study analyzes the influence of the Human Development Index (HDI), population growth, and the Information, Communication, and Technology Development Index (IDI) on DKI Jakarta’s EQI. Methods: A quantitative approach using time-series data (2008–2023) and multiple linear regression analysis was applied to evaluate the relationship between HDI, population growth, and IDI with environmental quality. Findings: HDI positively impacts environmental quality, contributing 5.776%. In contrast, a 1% increase in IDI and population growth correlates with a 2.183% and 173.456% decline in EQI, respectively, highlighting the environmental challenges of urbanization and technological expansion. Conclusion: Improving human resources, adopting green technologies, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders are critical to enhancing environmental quality.     Leadership strategies for enhancing border security in Papua: A collaborative approach to surveillance and threat management

    Background: The Papua border region faces significant security challenges due to its remote geography, limited infrastructure, and sparse monitoring resources. These issues hinder swift responses to threats, leaving the border vulnerable to criminal and smuggling activities. Effective leadership strategies that account for local wisdom and foster cross-stakeholder collaboration are essential to address these challenges. Methods: This study uses a qualitative literature review method to synthesize data from relevant studies, government reports, and security assessments. In addition to a primary analysis of previous literature, insights were gathered through the qualitative approach, including interviews and observations conducted over five years. Data collection involved triangulation through interviews with key informants and document analysis, with purposive and snowball sampling to ensure a comprehensive understanding. Findings: Findings indicate that a dual leadership style and collective decision-making approach significantly enhance border security. Engaging local stakeholders, particularly through partnerships with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), police, and the National Border Management Agency (BNPP), creates an adaptive, sustainable security system. Infrastructure development, informed by local customs and practices, also empowers communities to participate in border monitoring. Conclusion: The combination of flexible, adaptive leadership with a collaborative strategy among central and local entities strengthens border security management in Papua. Emphasizing local participation and infrastructure improvements aligns security efforts with community needs, promoting a more integrated and responsive approach. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study highlights the importance of incorporating local cultural wisdom and multi-stakeholder collaboration in security strategies for the Papua border region. The dual leadership model, combining central and local authorities, along with active community involvement, creates a unique framework for addressing security challenges in remote and resource-limited areas

    Enhancing youth preparedness and resilience in earthquake disaster mitigation: Evaluating the impact of disaster education workshops

    Bacground: Indonesia, as the world's largest archipelagic country, faces significant natural disaster risks due to its location on the "Ring of Fire." This study examines the knowledge and role of the younger generation in disaster preparedness in Pangalengan, focusing on understanding risks, actions during earthquakes, and information dissemination to enhance community resilience. Methods: The research method used is a field survey and workshop activities consisting of distributing oral questions, direct questions and questionnaires distributed before and after the workshop. While for area analysis, it was carried out by interviews and location surveys and the use of Google Maps. This study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Pangalengan, West Java, with 150 students participating. From 9 schools located around the city of Pangalengan. Findings: The 4-hour disaster mitigation workshop, guided by 4 teachers and 3 presenters from Kitakyushu, Japan, emphasized the importance of disaster education in preparing the younger generation, especially for earthquakes in Indonesia. The workshop provided students with valuable knowledge about disaster preparedness, including evacuation steps, sheltering, helping others, and assembling a disaster preparedness bag. It also taught students to identify safe places and understand the early warning system. Furthermore, the workshop increased students' sense of responsibility, concern for their own and others' safety, and enhanced their mental resilience. The skills and knowledge gained improved their confidence in handling emergency situations. Conclusion: Disaster education not only reduces the risk and negative impacts of disasters but also forms a generation that is more aware and responsible for the environment and shared safety. Novelty/Originality of This Study: This research contributes to the academic discourse by evaluating the effectiveness of disaster education workshops in enhancing youth preparedness and resilience, with a particular focus on the role of interactive learning in promoting community engagement and fostering a culture of responsibility in disaster-prone regions

    Sustainable urban mobility through traffic engineering and public transport integration: A microsimulation approach using Planung Transport Verkehr (PTV) Vissim

    Background: Traffic congestion is a major problem faced by the city of Bandung, particularly at the Soekarno-Hatta – Buah Batu intersection, which often experiences saturated conditions where traffic volume exceeds the basic capacity of the arterial road. This study aims to analyze the existing condition of the intersection and evaluate the effectiveness of integrating traffic engineering and public transportation as a sustainable solution. Method: This study employs a microscopic traffic simulation approach using Planung Transport Verkehr (PTV)  VISSIM 9 software, based on traffic volume data obtained from ATCS CCTV observations, classified by vehicle type and movement direction. Two scenarios were analyzed: the existing condition with a 360 second signal cycle and the engineered condition with a 150 second cycle combined with high-capacity bus services. Finding: The simulation results show that under existing conditions, the average queue length reaches 267.74 meters with a traffic flow of about 2,600 pcu/hour/lane, far exceeding the basic capacity of 1,700 pcu/hour/lane. After applying traffic engineering and public transport integration, the average queue length decreased significantly to 22.9 meters, with a potential reduction of up to 1,920 private vehicles per day. Conclusion: The combination of signal cycle optimization and high-capacity public transport can improve intersection performance efficiency while supporting sustainable urban mobility in Bandung. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study introduces an integrated framework combining signal timing optimization and high-capacity public transport, evaluated through microscopic traffic simulation using ATCS CCTV data. It provides quantitative evidence of congestion reduction and private vehicle demand shifts at a saturated urban intersection in a developing city context

    Sustainable nature-based tourism development: A feasibility assessment of a coastal tourism area

    Baground: Coastal tourism areas should be developed with an environmentally sound approach to achieving sustainable tourism, which safeguards the environment while providing a decent livelihood for surrounding communities. This study aims to assess the feasibility level of Taipa Beach tourism in Taipa Village, Lembo District, North Konawe Regency. Unlike previous studies that focus primarily on promotion or visitor statistics, this research applies a comprehensive feasibility framework, offering broader insights into sustainable coastal tourism development. Methods: Fieldwork was conducted from September to November 2024, applying the Guidelines for Analyzing the Area of Operation of Natural Tourism Objects and Attractions (ADO-ODTWA) issued by the Director General of PHKA (2003). Findings: The results show that Taipa Beach is feasible as an alternative natural tourism area, with an overall feasibility index value of 81.6%. Of the eight criteria assessed, six were declared feasible (attractiveness, accessibility, facilities and infrastructure, security, conditions around the area, and relationships with other tourist attractions), while two criteria were not yet feasible (climate and accommodation). Strategic interventions are therefore required to improve accommodation facilities and develop adaptation measures for non-ideal climatic conditions, such as supporting infrastructure to manage extreme weather. Conclusion:  Overall, Taipa Beach is considered feasible for sustainable nature-based tourism development, with a high feasibility index of 81.6%. However, improvements in accommodation facilities and climate adaptation measures are essential to enhance its sustainability and resilience as an eco-tourism destination in North Konawe Regency. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study contributes not only to local tourism planning but also to the broader discourse on sustainable tourism and ecotourism feasibility. By integrating multi-dimensional criteria into the feasibility assessment, the research provides a replicable model for coastal tourism development in other regions facing similar challenges

    Exploring the role of biogas systems in sustainable waste conversion and household energy supply

    Background: Systema 20 Model biodigesters were installed at Tsangano Market in Malawi and are being promoted all over the country. However, there is limited field-based proof to support their technical performance and social and environmental benefits. Therefore, this study assessed the technical performance of the biodigester and its community benefits. Methods: The study used a mixed-methods approach. Waste composition analysis involved randomly collecting and segregating 835.17 kg of market waste to determine its constituents; direct measurements of feedstock and water inputs and biogas and liquid biofertilizer yields were conducted using calibrated tools; household surveys (n = 385) and focus group discussions were conducted to examine cooking fuel use and firewood displacement by biogas; indoor emission reductions were estimated using WHO air quality guidelines; methane reductions were calculated using IPCC (2006) methods; and laboratory analysis and field experiments were conducted to assess biofertilizer quality and its effect on maize production. Findings: Organic waste accounted for 99.9% of market waste; biodigester produced 12 m³ of biogas and 548 litres of biofertiliser daily, with an operational efficiency of 57.7%; the plant has the potential to support 13 households with clean cooking fuel, displacing 37.1 tonnes of firewood annually and reducing indoor PM2.5 from over 300 µg/m³ to below 50 µg/m³; the system diverted 50.4 tonnes of organic waste yearly, avoiding 28.05 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions; and the biofertiliser (200.02 m³/year) had the potential to produce 16 tonnes of maize annually, although it performed better under irrigation than rain-fed farming. Conclusion: The Systema 20 biodigester is a promising solution to waste, energy, and environmental challenges at the community level. However, further research is needed to address biodigester efficiency and sustainability bottlenecks.     The influence of the friendship factor on social media on the intention to continue social shopping and social media participation: A study on generation Z

    Background: Humans continue to revolutionize how they search for and process information in line with technological advancements, social changes, and evolving needs. However, amidst the openness of information, the friendship factor is often overlooked due to broad access to various sources without considering their credibility. This study aims to understand how the friendship factor, particularly informational social influence, interpersonal trust, and perceptions of a friend's knowledge, influences consumer behavior in the context of social shopping and social media participation. It also examines the role of confirmation and perceived usefulness in shaping consumer satisfaction and their impact on the intention to continue social shopping and social media participation, using an Expected Confirmation Model (ECM) adapted to consumer behavior. Method: This study employs a quantitative design with a single cross-sectional method and purposive sampling. Data were collected through a structured online questionnaire, yielding 274 respondents. The data were then analyzed using the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) technique. Findings: The findings reveal that informational influence, interpersonal trust, and perceived friend knowledge significantly affect confirmation (0.145–0.337), which in turn influences perceived usefulness (0.523–0.598), user satisfaction (0.347–0.473), and continuance intention of social shopping (0.204–0.513) and social media participation (0.113–0.532). The results of the study indicate that all hypotheses were accepted. Friendship factors, particularly interpersonal trust, play a crucial role in shaping perceived usefulness and experience confirmation, which in turn influence satisfaction and the intention to continue social shopping and social media participation. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of providing positive experiences (positive confirmation) to encourage sustainable intentions in the context of social shopping and social media participation.     Integrating state-owned enterprises (SOEs), agro-economics, and sustainability: A systematic literature review on contract farming mechanism

    Background: Contract farming has emerged as a strategic mechanism to bridge market access, reduce production risks, and empower smallholder farmers in agricultural economies. However, its effectiveness varies across institutional contexts, particularly in developing countries facing market failures and power imbalances. This study aims to systematically examine the integration of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) within contract farming mechanisms to enhance agro-economic performance and sustainability. Previous studies have primarily focused on private-led contract farming models, with limited exploration of public or hybrid institutional roles, especially those owned by local governments. Methods: Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method, this study analyzes 19 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025. Thematic synthesis is applied to identify key patterns related to institutional involvement, economic impact, and sustainability dimensions. Findings: The findings reveal that the integration of (SOEs) into contract farming can improve farmers’ access to production inputs, ensure price stability, and support inclusive participation in the value chain, particularly when supported by clear regulatory frameworks and participatory governance. Moreover, models involving public institutions tend to align more closely with long-term sustainability goals such as environmental preservation and rural social equity. Conclusion: This study concludes that BUMD holds untapped potential in reshaping the governance of contract farming systems toward more equitable and sustainable outcomes. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty of this article lies in highlighting the strategic role of local public enterprises such as BUMD in agricultural contracting, an area that remains underexplored in existing literature

    The exemplary role of farmer institutional administrators as a strengthener for the holistic and integrative reform of the agricultural development paradigm

    Background: The agricultural development paradigm, which has shifted evolutionary from traditional agriculture to the current sustainable agriculture stage, has not been able to create prosperity for both farmers and the environment. Since the establishment of this sustainable agriculture paradigm, the back-to-nature movement has not changed the fate of farmers and the environment. This condition indicates that the three pillars/dimensions of sustainable agricultural development have not been successful in economic, sociological, and ecological dimensions, because one of the causes is the role of farmer institutions is not optimal, including not being a role model for its members. The purpose of this study is to strengthen the impact of the implementation of a holistic and integrative agricultural development paradigm through the exemplary role of farmer institutions for its members. Method: method used is descriptive through the Literature Review (SRL) technique approach using several published and unpublished research articles. Some theories used are the history of the evolution of agricultural paradigms in Indonesia starting from the traditional stage, agricultural intensification, agricultural diversification and industrialization, sustainable and inclusive agriculture to the optional holistic and integrative paradigm and the theory of farmer group role models. Findings: The results of this study reveal that the role model factor of farmer group administrators can have implications for the level of farmer participation in following all recommendations. In line with the exemplary role model of farmer group administrators, this evolutionary paradigm shift in agricultural development toward a holistic and integrative one will positively impact the acceleration of improving the welfare of farming communities and their environment. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that the paradigm shift in agricultural development in Indonesia from before the 20th century to the 21st century (sustainable and inclusive agricultural development), including holistic and integrative options, has not been able to alleviate poverty in agriculture. Novelty/Originality of this article: A holistic and integrative sustainable agricultural development paradigm will have a very positive and accelerating impact on poverty alleviation in the agricultural sector if it strengthens the role of exemplary farmer institutions
