    Integrating social governance principles: The role of diversity management and trust in fostering employee engagement

    Background: Diversity in Human Resource management is a challenge in a company. The development of technology, globalization, and migration encourage the acceleration of workforce diversity, especially in urban communities. The company's competitive advantage is the target of every company in carrying out its operations, one of the important factors driving this advantage is the management of Human Resources which leads to employee engagement. Diversity management is one of the aspects needed to increase employee engagement in employees. Methods: This study aims to analyze the effect of diversity management on employee engagement with organizational trust as a mediating variable. This study uses a quantitative research approach with purposive sampling data collection techniques conducted through a survey of 105 employees at PT BNI (Persero) Tbk. The data collected was then processed using the Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method using SmartPLS 4 tools. Findings: The results of the study indicate that diversity management has a positive effect on employee engagement, both directly and through the role of organizational trust as mediation. In addition, organizational trust also has a positive effect on employee engagement. Novelty/Originality of this article: This article uniquely examines the mediating role of organizational trust in the relationship between diversity management and employee engagement using a quantitative SEM-PLS approach, offering empirical insight into ESG-aligned human resource strategies

    TUAL DOCK TECH: An IoT-based port transformation for the optimization of the tuna industry in the City of Tual

    Background: Tual City is a region with the largest tuna potential in Indonesia, which can be utilized for the escalation of maritime resource exports to various countries via sea routes. However, the utilization of this potential is still far from optimal, influenced by various factors such as the relatively low social and economic conditions of the Tual community. Furthermore, limited access to the global market due to a lack of supporting infrastructure and low technology adoption is a primary factor hindering the development of Tual City's fishing industry. In its logistical processes, the port in Tual City relies solely on manual loading and unloading, leading to distribution delays, increased logistic costs, and a decline in product quality. Therefore, there is an urgent need to maximize port performance with technology assistance to facilitate the distribution of tuna products while simultaneously enhancing the implementation of the Blue Economy concept in Tual City. Methods: This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and Secondary Data Analysis methods to position TUAL DOCK TECH as a solution to the status quo in Tual City. Findings: This innovation is expected to strengthen Tual City's tuna potential by up to 50 percent through the revitalization of the container port and advanced infrastructure, establishing the region as economically independent and as a city that successfully implements the Blue Economy concept optimally and sustainably in Indonesia. Conclusion: Implementation of TUAL DOCK TECH can be the alternative solution the Tual City’s structural socio-economic problems. This innovation can also bring the city’s economic dependence status to be more environment friendly based, which is Blue Economy Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty aspect refers to the integration of IoT into the infrastructure of the container port for loading and unloading purposes and to facilitate tuna fishermen in the fishing process.     Toward sustainable management of disposable face mask waste: Integrating community and policy approaches

    Background: The use of disposable face masks has become a necessity and a habit since the outbreak of  COVID-19. Improper disposal and management creates a trail of waste that can potentially be a source of pollution in the environment. This study aims to analyze the potential impact of household-scale disposable face mask waste pollution in Cinere District to develop a sustainable strategy for disposable face mask waste management. Methods: The method used in this research is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), and qualitative descriptive statistical analysis. Findings: The results showed that the average use of disposable face masks in Cinere District was 2 pieces/day with a weight of 3.54 grams and it was estimated that the people of Cinere District produced 106,739 disposable face mask waste with a microplastic release rate reaching >93.93 billion/day. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the perception and role of the community and the government are very important and impactful on the potential of pollution of disposable face mask waste in the environment and the right strategy to tackle this issue is turn-around.     Integrative policy development for agricultural priority areas: Balancing land suitability and commodity preferences

    Background: Indonesia has the potential of natural resources to support agriculture. However, there are still some areas that have not optimized natural resources. People focus on planting commodity crops without considering the physical conditions of the environment and socio-culture. This research aims to develop policy directions for agricultural priority areas that consider the physical conditions of the environment and their suitability for farmers' commodity preferences. Methods: This study uses a quantitative approach with a combined method to determine agricultural priority areas. It integrates ZAE analysis, land carrying capacity, and farmers' commodity preferences. Findings: The results showed that the commodities preferred by farmers were cocoa, corn, and upland rice. The preference for these commodities has a significant correlation, especially with the source of income and the size of cultivated land. There is a 51% mismatch of existing agricultural land with the ZAE while in general agriculture in Nangapanda is in accordance with the carrying capacity of the land because it is at a high level of carrying capacity. Conclusion: Based on the agricultural priority areas formed, agriculture in Nangapanda can utilize dry land mainly for plantations with the direction of the main commodities tailored to the physical conditions of the land and the preferences of farmers namely cocoa, cashew, cloves, nutmeg, pepper. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty of this research lies in the integrative approach in formulating agricultural priority area policies that combine the suitability of physical environmental conditions and farmers' commodity preferences, which has not been widely applied in similar studies

    Electromagnetic launcher system prototype for non-lethal engagements: Innovation in materials and engineering for sustainable defense technologies

    Background: Electromagnetic launchers specifically coil guns have gained a considerable attention as one of the potential tools for non-lethal engagements. Methods: This research will explore the potential, working principles, and calculation that purpose. Coil guns utilize magnetic field in the form of coils are used to launch a projectile at high velocity without any chemical reaction, unlike conventional firearm. Development for coil gun on non-lethal engagements are still a challenge due to the precision of impact force, device’s reliability, and more. This prototype was developed as a two-staged coil gun controlled by Arduino and using a ST41 steel projectile. The system also implements IR LED in the coil as a failsafe should the timing did not work as expected. Findings: The results that the predicted results from the testing shown that the device could be capable for non-lethal engagements because the prototype performed with a peak muzzle velocity of 15.9 m/s and did not exceed the maximum of 100 Joules of energy at impact. Conclusion: This clearly shows that with more research, this method of a launcher could be promising due to the fact that in future advancements of research, coil gun is capable of great things, especially in the segment of non-lethal engagements. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This study contributes to the field of non-lethal weapon technology by developing a two-staged coil gun prototype controlled by Arduino, demonstrating its feasibility for non-lethal engagements with a peak muzzle velocity of 15.9 m/s and impact energy below 100 Joules, while incorporating an IR LED failsafe system to enhance operational reliability

    Impact Analysis of Forest and Peatland Landscape Change: Socio-Economic and Environmental Implications

    Background: Forest fires represent natural disasters that often stem from environmental conditions, including events like El Niño or extreme climatic situations. Rainfall, a crucial factor, plays a role in influencing extreme climate occurrences. Areas with high potential for forest fires encompass conservation zones closely linked to human activities. An illustrative example is the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), which serves both as a conservation and tourist area. The presence of human tourists or visitors in these conservation zones creates conditions conducive to forest fires, particularly when supported by extreme climatic conditions. Method: This study used field observation methods, satellite data analysis, and interviews with authorities and environmental experts. The data collected included the area affected, the plant types, and the environmental conditions after the fire. Findings: TNBTS experiences a specific rainfall pattern, with the lowest precipitation observed in May-Jun-Jul-Aug-Sept and the highest in Nov-Dec-Jan-Feb-Mar. During periods of low rainfall, TNBTS becomes susceptible to fires, necessitating preventative measures in the month leading up to the dry season. Initiating preventative actions at the onset of the dry season, notably in May, is crucial for controlling forest fires. Analyzing hotspot data of fire incidents from 2001 to 2020 reveals peak occurrences among other nationalities in 2001, 2014, and 2019. Identification based on data indicates that not all hotspots signify fire incidents; some result from heat emanating from Mount Semeru's crater at the TNBTS location. Conclusion: This article concludes the importance of cooperation between authorities, environmental organizations, and communities in forest fire prevention and recovery efforts in Bromo National Park. Novelty/Originality in this article: This study also offers a new perspective in the interpretation of hotspot data by distinguishing between forest fires and volcanic activity and identifying May as a critical period for initiating preventive action analysis based on long-term rainfall patterns

    The influence of the card sort method on students' learning outcomes in fiqh class

    Background: The Card Sort method, a student-centered active learning strategy, has been widely studied for its effectiveness in improving understanding and retention of information. This study investigates the impact of the Card Sort method on the learning outcomes of Fiqh students at MI Ma’arif NU 02 Bantarbarang Purbalingga. The research aims to determine whether the implementation of this method results in significant improvements compared to traditional teaching approaches. Methods: This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically the Nonequivalent Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study population consists of all sixth-grade students, with a purposive sampling technique selecting Class VI A as the experimental group and Class VI B as the control group. Data were collected through questionnaires and tests, and analyzed using simple linear regression and the Independent Sample T-Test in SPSS version 23. Findings: The results indicate that the Card Sort method significantly influences students’ Fiqh learning outcomes. The experimental group, which used the Card Sort method, achieved an average final test score of 79.40, while the control group, which relied on conventional methods, scored 75.40. Statistical tests show a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), confirming the significant effect of the Card Sort method. Additionally, the T-Test results (t = 8.448 > 2.010) further support the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0), proving that the method enhances student learning outcomes. Conclusions: The study concludes that the Card Sort method effectively improves student learning outcomes compared to conventional methods in Fiqh education. Students in the experimental group demonstrated higher engagement, better understanding, and improved test performance. To further optimize learning outcomes, students should be encouraged to actively participate in class activities, while teachers should implement creative teaching strategies and diverse instructional media. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study contributes to the field of active learning strategies in religious education, specifically in Fiqh learning, which has been less explored in previous studies

    The implementation of sima’an Al-Qur’an activities to improve memorization quality

    Background: Memorizing the Qur'an requires continuous support and strategic activities to enhance memorization quality. Sima’an al-Qur’an, a traditional recitation program, plays a vital role in reinforcing students’ (santri’s) hafalan (memorization). This study investigates how this activity is planned and executed, as well as the supporting and hindering factors in its implementation at Tahfidzul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School (PPTQ) Al-Amin Aminullah Barandasi. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted at PPTQ Al-Amin Aminullah Barandasi. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The participants included the pesantren’s leaders, mentors, and sima’an participants. The instruments used were interview guidelines, observation sheets, and documentation templates. Findings: The planning of the sima’an al-Qur’an activity is carried out systematically in three stages: surveying the venue and time, determining participants and readings, and preparing necessary facilities. The implementation follows a structured format with sessions for opening, recitation, breaks, and closing. Supporting factors include the commitment of organizers and participants, institutional support, and adequate facilities. In contrast, barriers include limited space, insufficient preparation, and interruptions from other activities. Conclusion: Sima’an al-Qur’an is effectively planned and implemented at PPTQ Al-Amin Aminullah Barandasi and contributes significantly to improving santri’s memorization quality. The pesantren is encouraged to further optimize and expand the program to benefit more students. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study provides a detailed, practice-based account of how sima’an al-Qur’an activities enhance Qur’anic memorization in Islamic boarding schools. Its originality lies in highlighting both practical implementation and institutional strategies, offering a replicable model for other pesantren

    Analysis of factors affecting regional financial independence in primary leading sector districts

    Background: Regional autonomy has been implemented for more than two decades, but local governments can still not manage their local finances independently. Problems that occur in the implementation of regional autonomy can occur from within and outside the country. Domestic conditions indicate that people want openness and independence, while foreign conditions indicate that the increasing progress of globalization demands the competitiveness of each country, including the competitiveness of local governments. Methods: This study uses panel data consisting of time series data from 2018 - 2022 and cross-section data on 140 districts in Indonesia that have primary leading sectors. The analysis method is the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) method with the System Generalized Method of Moments approach to address endogeneity problems and dynamic economic correlations. Findings: The results of this study indicate that the primary output variable and tax ratio have a positive and significant effect on regional financial independence. In contrast, natural resource revenue-sharing funds and general allocation funds have a negative and significant effect. Meanwhile, the special allocation fund variable does not affect regional financial independence. Conclusion: This study concludes that enhancing primary output and optimizing tax ratios are crucial for improving regional financial independence. However, reliance on revenue-sharing funds and general allocation funds can hinder financial autonomy. Policy implications suggest the need for local governments to strengthen their economic base and reduce dependency on central government transfers to achieve greater fiscal independence. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This study provides a novel approach to analyzing regional financial independence by utilizing the System Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to address dynamic economic correlations and endogeneity issues.

    Background: This study addresses the complex challenges of waste management at Indonesia's Rawa Kucing landfill, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions such as Refuse- Derived Fuel RDF) to reduce reliance on landfills and address gas emissions. Ineffective waste management, environmental pollution, and limited infrastructure reinforce the urgency for methods that can effectively reduce waste volumes and promote renewable energy. This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of RDF in waste management by assessing the economic, environmental, and health benefits. Methods: Using circular economy theory and cost- benefit analysis (CBA), RDF was assessed for its potential in carbon reduction, renewable energy production, and sustainability. Findings: Findings show significant benefits of the RDF in reducing waste in landfills, improving management efficiency, and providing alternative energy sources. Economic benefits, such as revenue from RDF sales, and environmental benefits in the form of reduced greenhouse gas emissions are particularly important. addition, RDF can reduce health risks by lowering pollution from well-managed waste piles. RDF is proven to be an effective and economically beneficial waste management alternative to conventional methods. Conclusions: This study recommends expanding the adoption of RDF in various landfills in Indonesia as well as increasing public awareness on the benefits of RDF. Novelty/Originality of this Article: This research offers a novel approach by combining circular economy theory with cost-benefit analysis (CBA) to evaluate the multiple benefits of RDF, not only in waste reduction and energy production, but also in improving public health.
