Transformation of local tourism through sustainable business model for Moncongos water tourism based on innovation and community empowerment
Background: Moncongos Water Tourism, located in Kuningan Regency, West Java, is a premier destination that relies on white-water rafting as its main attraction. However, the fluctuation of river water discharge during the dry season poses a significant challenge in maintaining the sustainability of tourism at this location. This research aims to develop a sustainable business model that addresses dependence on natural conditions by introducing innovative tourism products, empowering local communities, and implementing effective marketing strategies. Method: This study uses a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory approach to examine the challenges and opportunities in Moncongos water tourism, focusing on the environmental, social, and economic factors affecting its sustainability. Findings: Innovations like flying fox, rappelling, camping, grape cultivation, Mocongos Cafe, and an MSME bazaar engage the local community in roles such as tour guides and small business owners, boosting the economy and fostering ownership. Digital marketing, including social media and influencer strategies, effectively attracts younger tourists seeking authentic experiences. Conclusion: Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa menggabungkan inovasi produk, pemberdayaan masyarakat, dan pemasaran digital dapat meningkatkan keberlanjutan wisata air Moncongos, yang memberi manfaat bagi ekonomi lokal dan pelestarian lingkungan. Novelty/Originality of this article: This research shows that the combination of product innovation, community empowerment, and digital marketing can enhance the sustainability and attractiveness of Moncongos tourism. This sustainable business model is expected to be applicable to other tourist destinations facing similar challenges. With this approach, Moncongos not only becomes an attractive destination but also supports the local economy and environmental preservation
State-led funding and support for education innovation programmes: Create a participatory policy to create inclusive and equitable education in Indonesia
Background: The research focuses on the challenges facing education, particularly the lack of civil society involvement in policy formulation and implementation. Bureaucratic inefficiency, driven by an emphasis on quantity and inertia, hampers educational innovation. The state-funded Education Innovation Programme is designed to address these issues, promoting both educational innovation and the democratisation of education. This programme emphasizes participatory innovation, seeking solutions to the problems within the education system. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach to analyze the stages of the Education Innovation Programme, including planning, execution, and evaluation. The involvement of innovators, review teams, observers, and government agents is explored in the context of their collaborative, professional, and non-interventionist roles. Findings: The Education Innovation Programme encourages community-driven, innovative ideas with direct state support in terms of funding and mentoring. This collaboration aims to reduce bureaucratic burdens and offer flexible, locally based solutions to education issues. The programme is designed to address the specific problems faced by poor and marginalized groups, enhancing access to education. Conclusion: The Education Innovation Programme has the potential to alleviate access issues in education for marginalized groups, fostering local solutions and empowering civil society. It could provide a more flexible, less rigid approach to solving education problems, particularly in the face of bureaucratic limitations. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This study offers a novel perspective on addressing educational challenges by advocating for a collaborative, bottom-up approach through the Education Innovation Programme. It highlights the potential of state-backed, community-driven innovation to overcome bureaucratic inertia and improve access to education for marginalized communities
The influence of forest ecosystems on the well-being of surrounding communities: A philosophical perspective in eschatology through guattari’s three ecologies
Background: This paper examines the influence of UI Forest on the well-being of surrounding communities through Felix Guattari’s Three Ecologies perspective. The research addresses how the presence of UI Forest as an urban green space affects the physical and mental well-being of nearby residents, particularly amid the techno-scientific transformation era that threatens ecological balance. Methods: The study employs Guattari’s Three Ecologies theory, which views ecology through three dimensions: mental, social, and environmental. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with 15 respondents, including local residents and UI Forest users, such as cycling communities and runners. Findings: The analysis utilizes Guattari’s ecosophical approach, which integrates ethico-political and aesthetic aspects in understanding human-environment relationships. The findings reveal that UI Forest plays a significant role in enhancing community well-being by providing space for physical activities, contemplation, and social interaction. Access restriction policies hinder UI Forest’s potential in supporting community welfare. Conclusion: A country's happiness index is very important. The happiness index value is a consideration for policy makers in making regulations and implementing national programs. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty of this study lies in the multidimensional approach in analyzing the happiness index in Indonesia by considering factors that have rarely been comprehensively studied in previous studies
Enhancing quality management in Indonesia's flexible packaging industry: A six sigma approach to defect reduction and cost savings
Background: The flexible packaging industry is experiencing significant growth, requiring companies to improve efficiency by reducing defects and minimizing the cost of poor quality (COPQ). Effective quality control is crucial to maintaining competitiveness and reducing waste. This study focuses on assessing and improving quality control in an Indonesian flexible packaging company, XYZ, using the Six Sigma methodology. Methods: The research adopts the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) approach to identify defects and propose solutions. Data collection includes statistical analysis, historical records, and interviews with company sources. The study specifically examines defects in the printing process, which accounts for 79% of total defects based on the 80/20 principle. The Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) model is applied to identify root causes and develop recommendations for improvement. Findings: The study identifies multiple factors contributing to printing defects, such as register shifting, film scratching, color inconsistencies, ink transfer issues, and ink spots. Operator performance and machine-related issues are found to be the dominant causes of defects. Implementing the recommended quality control improvements can potentially reduce defect-related costs by 48%, translating to estimated cost savings of IDR 114,734,847 during the study period. Conclusion: This research confirms the effectiveness of Six Sigma in reducing defects and improving production efficiency in the flexible packaging industry. However, limitations include restricted access to ERP data, reliance on interviews and historical records, and the inability to evaluate the implementation of control measures. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study contributes to the literature by applying Six Sigma in a flexible packaging industry context in Indonesia, demonstrating its potential for substantial cost savings. Unlike previous studies, it emphasizes the human factor in quality control and suggests a systematic approach to defect reduction
Exploring the influence of demographic factors on COVID-19 prevention behaviors in traditional market settings
Background: Covid-19 prevention behaviors are essential in controlling the spread of the virus, particularly in public spaces such as traditional markets. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing the Covid-19 prevention behavior of traders at Yada Traditional Market, Palembang. Previous studies have indicated that demographic factors such as age, gender, education level, and knowledge significantly impact preventive actions. Methods: his cross-sectional study involved 110 traders as respondents, utilizing a structured questionnaire for data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics, including Chi-Square and logistic regression, were employed to analyze the relationships between demographic factors and Covid-19 prevention behavior. Findings: The study found no significant relationship between gender and Covid-19 prevention behavior (p-value=0.156). However, significant associations were found between age, education level, and knowledge with prevention behavior (p-value<0.05). Older adults and individuals with higher education levels exhibited better prevention behaviors. Conclusion: Age, education, and knowledge were identified as key factors influencing Covid-19 prevention behaviors. This suggests that improving education and knowledge could enhance preventive measures among traders and the broader community. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study provides new insights into the Covid-19 prevention behavior of traders in a traditional market setting, highlighting the importance of demographic factors in health behavior interventions
Understanding pro-environmental behavior: A comparative analysis of rural and urban communities for environmental education and conservation
Background: Environmental degradation and climate change have become global concerns, driven by human activities such as the exploitation of natural resources. However, humans also play a crucial role in mitigating environmental damage through pro-environmental behavior. This behavior involves actions aimed at minimizing negative environmental impacts, which contribute to improving environmental quality. An individual’s affective connection with their social group and place of residence influences their pro-environmental behavior. The study compares pro-environmental behavior in urban and rural communities, focusing on the differences in driving factors across these settings. Methods: A literature review method was employed to gather data from 13 accredited articles discussing pro-environmental behavior in urban and rural communities across Asia, Europe, and America. The literature was sourced from scientific databases, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of the existing research on the topic. Findings: Both urban and rural communities engage in pro-environmental behaviors, but the factors driving these behaviors differ. Rural communities tend to have stronger social bonds and a closer connection to the natural environment, which influences their pro-environmental actions. Urban communities, on the other hand, have greater knowledge of environmental issues but often show skepticism regarding others' ability to protect the environment. Differences in pro-environmental behavior are influenced by sociodemographic, cultural, and geographical conditions. Conclusion: Pro-environmental behavior varies between rural and urban communities due to different social, cultural, and geographical factors. Understanding these differences can help develop targeted strategies to encourage environmentally conscious actions in both settings. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study provides a comparative analysis of pro-environmental behavior in rural and urban communities across diverse regions, highlighting how sociodemographic, cultural, and geographical conditions influence environmental actions. This perspective has been less extensively addressed in previous research
The role of effort expectancy and facilitating conditions in enhancing digital banking adoption: A pathway towards sustainable financial services
Background: The adoption of digital banking has become increasingly important as financial institutions strive to enhance customer experience and service accessibility. However, the factors influencing users' intention to adopt digital banking remain complex. This study aims to explore the factors influencing the behavioral intention to adopt digital banking, focusing on these three key constructs. Methods: The study employs a quantitative research design using a survey to collect data from users of digital banking services. A structured questionnaire was developed to measure the three factors: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis to assess the impact of each factor on users' intention to adopt digital banking. Findings: The results reveal that effort expectancy has the most significant positive influence on users’ intention to adopt digital banking. This suggests that the perceived ease of use plays a critical role in adoption decisions. Facilitating conditions, such as infrastructure and technical support, were also found to be important in encouraging users to engage with digital banking services. However, performance expectancy was found to have a statistically insignificant relationship with behavioral intention, which contrasts with prior studies that emphasize its importance. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance for banks to prioritize user-friendly platform design, minimize effort and complexity, while ensuring the availability of technical infrastructure and supporting systems. This study suggests that focusing on ease of use and providing enabling conditions are critical to increasing digital banking adoption rates and sustaining long-term user engagement. Novelty/Originality in this article: This article contributes to the existing literature by providing new insights into the role of effort expectancy in digital banking adoption, contrasting with prior research that emphasizes performance expectancy. It also highlights the significant role of facilitating conditions, offering practical recommendations for banks to enhance digital banking adoption by focusing on user accessibility and support systems
A remote sensing-based analysis of mangrove vegetation density and damage levels for coastal ecosystem management
Background: Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in the balance of the coastal environment but are degraded due to human activities and natural factors. This study aims to analyze the level of damage to mangrove vegetation in Paguyaman Pantai Subdistrict using a remote sensing approach. Methods: This research uses Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2 satellite imagery data, and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) method to identify the level of vegetation density. Findings: The results showed that the total area of mangroves in this area is 436.16 Ha, with a classification of high density (248.56 Ha), medium (174.23 ha), and low (13.36 Ha). Damage to the mangrove ecosystem in Paguyaman Pantai District is not significant, because most areas are still dominated by high-density mangroves and overall, the mangrove ecosystem in this area remains in good condition and continues to play a role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems. Conclusion: Field validation results show that mangroves in this area consist of six main species, namely Rhizophora stylosa, Sonneratia alba, Ceriops tagal, Ceriops decandra, Bruguiera cylindrica, and Bruguiera gymnorrhiza. Economic valuation of agricultural land conversion to oil palm plantations: Assessing economic benefits and environmental impacts
Background: The conversion of agricultural land into oil palm plantations has become a pressing issue due to its significant economic and environmental impacts. While oil palm production offers economic benefits, it also contributes to biodiversity loss and the degradation of ecosystem services. This study aims to assess both the economic valuation and the environmental consequences of land conversion in Muaro Jambi Regency, addressing the gap in current research regarding the dual impact of this transformation. Methods: A total economic valuation (TEV) approach was applied, combining direct use value (DUV), indirect use value (IUV), and option value (OV) to quantify the economic impacts. Data collection included secondary data from government reports, industry studies, and previous academic works. Statistical methods were employed to estimate the economic contributions and environmental costs associated with land conversion. Findings: The total economic value of converting agricultural land to oil palm plantations was estimated at IDR 1.097 trillion per year, predominantly driven by the direct use value of palm oil production. The conversion, however, resulted in the loss of vital ecosystem services worth IDR 1.55 billion per year, as well as significant biodiversity and cultural heritage loss, valued at IDR 12.37 billion annually. These findings suggest that while oil palm cultivation provides substantial economic benefits, it also presents serious environmental challenges. Conclusion: The study underscores the importance of balancing economic benefits with environmental sustainability in land conversion decisions. Effective policy interventions, such as Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES), sustainability certifications, and land rehabilitation programs, are essential to mitigate the environmental impacts of oil palm plantations. Utilization of mangrove wood by coastal communities: a study on the ecological and economic impacts
Background: Mangrove forests have an important ecological and economic role for coastal communities, including in Torosiaje Village, Pohuwato Regency, Gorontalo Province. This study aims to analyze the utilization of mangrove wood by local communities and its impact on the ecosystem. Methods: The research method used is a survey with a qualitative descriptive approach, through observation, interviews, and secondary data analysis. Findings: The results of the study indicate that mangrove wood is used as household fuel with a selling price of around IDR 5,000 per bundle. Although the use of mangrove wood as fuel is still ongoing, public awareness of mangrove conservation is increasing, so that the use of wood is now more directed at wood that is no longer suitable for use. Conclusion: Uncontrolled exploitation of mangrove wood can result in a decrease in the area of the mangrove ecosystem which has a negative impact on the coastal environment. Therefore, a sustainable management strategy is needed to maintain the balance between mangrove utilization and conservation.
