    Reliability and validity study of the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV)

    Objective: The lack of self-rating multidimensional questionnaires to assess obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in children and adolescents poses a problem for monitoring clinical practices and implementing academic research. This study aimed to empirically examine the psychometric properties of the OCI-CV in a Turkish clinical sample of children and adolescents diagnosed with OCD alongside a control group for comparative analysis. Method: The OCI-CV was administered alongside other measures to a clinical sample of 232 participants aged 8–18 years (mean±SD=13.35±2.68; female/male: 46.1%/53.9%) and a control group. Results: According to the results of the item analysis, corrected item-total correlation coefficients were found to be between 0.36 and 0.62. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the original six-factor model with acceptable fit indices (Minimum Discrepancy per Degree of Freedom (CMIN/df)=1.734, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA)=0.056, Comparative Fit Index (CFI)=0.919, Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR)=0.067, Incremental Fit Index (IFI)=0.921, Normed Fit Index (NFI)=0.835, Root Mean Residual (RMR)=0.034). The standardized factor loadings of the scale items varied between 0.39 and 0.90. According to the Pearson correlation results, a significant positive correlation (p<0.001) was found within the scope of the concurrent validity of the OCI-CV. The Cronbach α coefficient of the six-dimensional 21-item scale was found to be 0.88, and that of the sub-dimensions of the scale ranged between 0.63 and 0.81. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated the psychometric properties of the Child Version of the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory (OCI-CV), and the results showed that the measure is valid and reliable for use in a clinical sample of Turkish children and adolescents

    Hybrid network protocol information collection and dissemination in IoT healthcare

    Book Series : Engineering Cyber-Physical Systems and Critical Infrastructures.In recent years, the internet of things (IoT) has grown in significance, affecting a larger variety of areas of daily life in a wider number of nations. As a result, there has to be a trustworthy system for collecting and disseminating data sent online by trillions of sensors to trillions of actuators. Only a few healthcare scenarios necessitate the transmission of data in real time; in most cases, monitoring relies on the average of sensor readings. Real-time transmission is seldom ever necessary in healthcare applications. Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) and Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) are the two most popular application layer protocols utilized by low-resource devices and Internet of Things applications. However, this study created an architecture that combines MQTT's quick availability with CoAP's dependable and fundamental communication to increase healthcare's reliability and efficiency. Whether the control server uses MQTT or CoAP for message exchange depends on how important the object being controlled is. MQTT protocol proposes several advantages over CoAP such as reliability, real time transmission, broadcasting to topics' subscribers etc. The combination of bothMQTT and CoAP allows to filter the health data into two categories, severe symptoms measurements of emergency are published and diffused via brokers using MQTT while normal measurements are conveyed to normal servers using CoAP

    Exploring lightweight blockchain solutions for internet of things : review

The IoT offers these advantages to the world by linking necessary devices with each other, making it easier to manage and deal with those devices. However, the IoT faces many challenges, such as authentication, privacy, security, and access management. The application of blockchain technology may provide a solution to these challenges. Nevertheless, applying blockchain technology may face limitations, such as the limited resources of the IoT devices used and the resource-intensive requirements of the blockchain. Therefore, to overcome these limitations, several studies have proposed using a lightweight blockchain; this blockchain is specifically designed for resource-limited IoT devices. In this paper, a comprehensive review has been made on the uses of lightweight blockchain in the IoT.     Funding provided by Yıldız Technical University with grant number TSA-2021-4713PurposeThe aim of this study includes the comparative examination of neurosphere formation by WJ-derived mesenchymal stem cells in both 2D media and 3D injectable graphene and graphene-free bioink systems in terms of both immunostaining and gene expression levels.MethodsFor this purpose, hydrogel bioinks were first created and the wj-MKH spheroidal structure was formed on 3D-B (without graphene) and 3D-G (containing graphene). Then, following the differentiation procedure, neurosphere transformations were identified by both immunostaining (b-III Tubulin and Sox2), and Tubulin 3, Sox2, and Nestin markers were examined at the gene expression level with Real-Time PCR, and the results were compared with the 2D environment.ResultsAccording to the results obtained, neurosphere formation occurred more in the 3D environment compared to the 2D environment, obtained both by immunostaining and gene expression levels. It was also observed that differentiation formed neuron-like structures, especially in the 3D-G group containing graphene.ConclusionAs a result, it has been observed that the use of graphene with a non-toxic concentration in the hydrogel injectable system provides better differentiation of stem cells, especially those that will form the cell leg of the biomaterial.Lay SummaryTherefore, the use of graphene-containing hydrogels in injectable systems in nerve damage may increase the effectiveness on nerve regeneration

    Exploration of deep UV-NLO responses of non-conjugated crystal systems by harnessing aprotic solvents: DFT vs experimental

    This study introduces a newly found form of a non-conjugated crystal called 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamine polymorph (TT), TT ), which demonstrates a well-rounded UV nonlinear optical (NLO) behavior. By employing solvent-assisted Tauc bandgap adjustment, the crystal's structure was altered, leading to improved optical characteristics. The material's monoclinic polymorph displays adjustable bandgaps that are impacted by the choice of solvent during the crystallization process. When evaluated against a chemical potential of-2.61 eV, its characteristics were forecasted. Charge displacement across the aromatic ring is observed in the solvent stage, while molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surfaces highlighted the nitrogen atoms as nucleophilic. The comparative examination of its energy gaps (E gaps ) offers significant perspectives on their prospective uses. Understanding these energy differences is crucial for choosing materials for specific applications like electronic devices, sensors, or catalysis. Moreover, comprehending charge distributions and nucleophilic tendencies can influence the creation of new materials with customized attributes for diverse uses in fields such as chemistry, materials science, and beyond

    Evaluation of oral-health related knowledge and attitudes among mothers of children under 4 years old

    Aim To evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of mothers of children under 4 years old about oral health in Turkey. Material and methods This study is a cross-sectional questionnaire submitted to 401 mothers with children aged under of 4 years who came to the Pediatric Dentistry Clinics of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa and Altınbaş University Faculty of Dentistry. The questionnaire comprised of 3 sections with total of 33 closed questions regarding socio-demographic information and knowledge and attitudes of the mothers about the oral health of their children. The independent t-test and the Pearson’s correlation test were used. Results The question that was most correctly answered by mothers (89%, n=357) was “When should you change your child’s toothbrush?”.On the other hand, the question that was most incorrectly answered (89.7%, n=360) was “When should your child have snacks or sugary drinks?”. The sources from which mothers get information about oral health are dentists (55.6%), friends (36.4%) and media (15.4%), respectively. There is a statistically significant relationship between regular dental visits by mothers and taking children to the dentist for the first time fo a check-up, and the knowledge score (p=0.000; p=0.000). Furthermore, there is a statistically significant weak positive correlation between the mothers’ knowledge score and their attitudes toward dietary habits (r=0.338, p=0.000) as well as preventive oral and dental health practices (r=0.363, p=0.000). Conclusion In conclusion, it has been noted that mothers who regularly visit the dentist have a greater understanding of oral hygiene. Additionally, mothers who possess knowledge about oral care are more likely to prioritize scheduling appointments for their children with a paediatric dentist for check-up purposes

    Generation failures, strategic withholding, and capacity payments in the Turkish electricity market

    Since the deregulation of significant parts of electricity markets in many countries worldwide, a generally pronounced matter is that firms strategically lower their generating capacity to raise electricity prices. This paper investigates whether strategic capacity withholding exists in the form of generation failures in the Turkish day-ahead market and whether the capacity remuneration mechanism contributes to the failure durations. The empirical results show strong support for strategic capacity withholding in the Turkish market, and the capacity mechanism adds to the duration of these failures. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate capacity withholding considering centrally determined capacity prices and to focus on failure durations and the potential amount of power generation losses they cause. Our analysis conveys core messages for policymakers. A random verification mechanism may be implemented to verify that the failures are purely technical and apply penalties for nonperformance. Second, the Turkish capacity mechanism needs to be restructured to make it more compatible with performance incentives. Our analysis, while focused on the Turkish market, provides insights into the prevalent challenges and potential solutions tied to strategic capacity withholding in deregulated electricity markets globally, notably those employing capacity remuneration mechanisms

    Marketlerden Satın Alınabilecek Çocuk Diş Macunlarını Oluşturan Bileşenlerin Analizi

    Amaç: Diş macunu, diş plağını temizlemede en önemli araçlardan biridir ve ağız ve diş hijyeni uygulamalarının ayrılmaz bir parçasıdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, piyasada bulunan çocuk diş macunlarının içeriklerini incelemek ve bu içeriklerin macunlar arasındaki yaygınlıklarını belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: İstanbul’daki beş süpermarket ziyaret edilerek market raflarında yer alan çocuk diş macunları bu çalışmanın kapsamına alındı. Diş macunu içerikleri bir Excel veritabanında kaydedildi. Diş macunu oluşturan her bileşene ait literatür verilerini derlemek için Google Scholar, PubMed ve ScienceDirect veritabanları kullanıldı. Her bir içeriğin tüm diş macunları arasındaki bulunma oranı yüzde cinsinden belirlendi. Bulgular: Market raflarında altı diş macunu markasına ait on beş farklı isimde diş macunu tespit edildi. Bu diş macunlarını oluşturan toplamda altmış iki farklı bileşen belirlendi. Altmış iki bileşenden kırk yedi tanesinin literatüre göre vücut ve çevre dokular için irritan, toksik veya yan etki oluşturabileceği belirlendi. Sodyum florürün diş macunları arasında farklı ppm’lerde bulunduğu (n=3; ≥1450 ppm ve n=1; 700 ppm); sodyum sakkarin, sodyum lauril sülfat (n=6; %40), titanyum dioksit (n=3; %20) ve paraben (n=2; %13,3) gibi olumsuz etki oluşturabilecek bileşenlerin de diş macunlarının içeriğinde yer aldığı saptandı. Sonuç: Çoğu diş macununun zararlı ve olumsuz etkiler oluşturabilecek çeşitli bileşenler içermesi kayda değer ve dikkat çekici bir durum olup; bu içeriklerin kullanımının mümkün olduğunca azaltılması sadece ağız diş sağlığı değil, genel sağlık ve toplum sağlığı açısından da önem arz etmektedir

    Son yıllarda hemen her alanda kullanılmaya başlayan dijitalleşme, finansal ürün ve hizmetlerin de zamanla değişim ve dönüşüme uğramasına neden olmuştur. Dijital finansal okuryazarlık kavramı finansal işlemler için finansal teknolojiye dayalı ürün ve hizmetleri kullanan kişilerin risk algısını ve yatırım kararlarını etkileyebilecek potansiyele sahiptir. Çalışmanın hazırlanma gerekçesi finansal teknolojinin Türkiye’deki yatırımcılar arasında bilinirliğini araştırarak dijital finansal okuryazarlığın yatırım kararlarına etkisini incelemektir. Çalışmaya finansal kararlarda dijital dünyanın ne derece etkili olduğunu araştırmak ve Türkiye piyasasında faaliyet gösteren yatırımcıların dijital okuryazarlık seviyelerini görmek amacıyla ihtiyaç duyulmuştur. Yatırımcıların finansal işlemlerde teknoloji kullanımı konusundaki farkındalıkları ölçülmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu kapsamda finans piyasalarında aktif yatırımı bulunan 307 kişiden anket yöntemiyle elde edilen bilgiler derlenerek regresyon analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırma için tümü internet erişimi yoluyla olmak üzere 500 bireysel yatırımcıya anket formu gönderilmiş, bunlardan 307 geçerli anket analize dahil edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarına göre yatırımcıların dijital finansal okuryazarlıkları geliştikçe finansal teknolojiye dayalı yatırım ürünlerini tercih etme eğilimlerinin artacağı ortaya konulmuştur

    Screening of antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and cytotoxic activities of some medicinal plants from Balıkesir province, Türkiye: potential effects of allium paniculatum flower

    Objectives: Plant extracts are important natural resources that may have antimicrobial and antibiofilm effects against pathogens. This study was conducted to investigate the in vitro antimicrobial activities of methanol extracts of some medicinal plants (Achillea nobilis subspecies neilreichii (A. Kern.) Velen., Aetheorhiza bulbosa (L.) Cass, Allium paniculatum L, Asphodelus aestivus Brot., Ballota nigra L., Cistus laurifolius L., Cistus salviifolius L., Dioscorea communis (L.) Caddick and Wilkin, Galium verum L., Hypericum triquetrifolium Turra, Paliurus spina-christi Mill., Primula vulgaris Huds. subspecies rubra (Sm.) Arcang., Ranunculus arvensis L. and Teucrium polium L.) from Balıkesir province in Türkiye. Materials and methods: Preliminary antimicrobial activity screening was conducted for all extracts. Antibiofilm activity studies were conducted on mature Candida albicans biofilms. Moreover, the cytotoxicities of A. paniculatum flower extract on A549 and Vero cell lines were determined using a colorimetric tetrazolium-based assay. Results: A. paniculatum flower, P. vulgaris root, C. laurifolius, C. salviifolius, and A. nobilis displayed good activity [minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC): 9.75, 156, 312, 312 and 312 μg/mL, respectively] against C. albicans American Type Culture Collection 10231. Biofilm studies were conducted on these plant extracts. The methanol extract of A. paniculatum flower decreased the number of C. albicans [colony-forming unit (CFU)/mL] in mature biofilm statistically at 32 x MIC and higher concentrations (p < 0.01). A. paniculatum flower extract had a cytotoxic effect (killing more than 50% of cells) at high concentrations, and its effect on Vero cells was similar to that on A549 cells. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the importance of the methanol extract of A. paniculatum flower as a natural alternative against C. albicans infections, including biofilms
