    The global energy sector is currently undergoing a significant transformation to address sustainability, energy efficiency, and grid resilience. Smart grids, leveraging advanced technologies like the power internet of things (PIoT), play a crucial role in this transformation. This research focuses on enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of electricity distribution through IoT technologies. It envisions a system where interconnected devices, sensors, and data analytics optimize energy consumption, monitor grid conditions, and manage demand response scenarios. Central to this effort is the integration of PIoT into the smart grid infrastructure, particularly in implementing dynamic pricing strategies for demand response. Leveraging power line communication (PLC) techniques, this innovative approach facilitates real-time communication between grid components and consumers. The results demonstrate improved grid stability through dynamic load management, effectively responding to demand fluctuations, and minimizing disruptions. The deployment of dynamic pricing methods using PLC-driven schemes empowers customers by offering access to realtime energy use data.     Evaluation and classification intrusion detection system for IoT networks by using different machine learning algorithm

    Intrusion detection in Internet of Things (IoT) networks is a vital part of assuring cybersecurity. This research analyzes the usefulness of several machine learning algorithms in assessing and categorizing intrusion detection systems for IoT networks. The study leverages a rigorously curated dataset, predates a simulated military network environment, containing multiple cyber threats. Random Forest, Voting Regressor, XGBoost, Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbor, Linear Regression, and MLP Regressor are the main techniques used in the machine learning field. Significant of Decision Tree algorithm is that it figures highly, displaying 98.58% accuracy. The assessment has an abundant number of results as classification error and confusion matrix. The Decision Tree model is foreseen to be capable of eliminating defects and managing the IoT system in the ideal manner. The method consists of data processing, algorithm mounting, & configuration. After that, classification is tested to evaluate performance. The research takes a notable stand on the collection of data, and the security measures which are in place. Limiting factors in the case study include the use of a single dataset which happens to be the case study and the absence of the inclusion of the required security measures. It would be more important to future research to include dataset diversification for modeling and algorithms training to increase the system high generality moment and performance. By studying these cases, the knowledge gained about how intrusion detection machines work in IoT networks would be extended, highlighting the paramount importance of machine learning algorithms in guaranteeing cyber-security.Nesnelerin İnterneti (IoT) ağlarında izinsiz giriş tespiti, siber güvenliği sağlamanın hayati bir parçasıdır. Bu araştırma, IoT ağları için izinsiz giriş tespit sistemlerinin değerlendirilmesinde ve sınıflandırılmasında çeşitli makine öğrenimi algoritmalarının kullanışlılığını analiz etmektedir. Çalışma, titizlikle seçilmiş bir veri kümesinden yararlanıyor ve birden fazla siber tehdit içeren simüle edilmiş bir askeri ağ ortamından öncesine dayanıyor. Rastgele Orman, Oylama Regresörü, XGBoost, Karar Ağacı, K-En Yakın Komşu, Doğrusal Regresyon ve MLP Regresyon, makine öğrenmesi alanında kullanılan başlıca tekniklerdir. Karar Ağacı algoritmasının önemli özelliği yüksek rakam vermesi ve %98,58 doğruluk göstermesidir. Değerlendirmede sınıflandırma hatası ve karışıklık matrisi gibi çok sayıda sonuç bulunmaktadır. Karar Ağacı modelinin kusurları ortadan kaldıracak ve IoT sistemini ideal şekilde yönetebilecek kapasitede olması öngörülüyor. Yöntem veri işleme, algoritma montajı ve konfigürasyondan oluşur. Daha sonra performansı değerlendirmek için sınıflandırma test edilir. Araştırma, verilerin toplanması ve uygulanan güvenlik önlemleri konusunda dikkate değer bir duruş sergiliyor. Vaka çalışmasında sınırlayıcı faktörler arasında vaka çalışması olan tek bir veri kümesinin kullanılması ve gerekli güvenlik önlemlerinin dahil edilmemesi yer almaktadır. Sistemin yüksek genellik momentini ve performansını artırmak için modelleme ve algoritma eğitimine yönelik veri seti çeşitlendirmesini dahil etmek gelecekteki araştırmalar için daha önemli olacaktır.     Impact of oxidative stress on myocardial performance in patients with diabetes: a focus on subclinical left ventricular dysfunction

    Introduction: Oxidative stress is known to affect left ventricular functions negatively. There is a strong bidirectional connection between diabetes mellitus (DM) and oxidative stress. In parallel, left ventricular dysfunction is observed more frequently, even in patients with DM without other risk factors. In this context, the objective of this study is to comparatively investigate the potential relationship between oxidative stress and subclinical left ventricular dysfunction (SCLVD) assessed by Myocardial Performance Index (MPI) in patients with and without DM. Research design and methods: The sample of this observational cross-sectional single-center study consisted of 151 patients who were evaluated for oxidative stress and SCLVD by tissue Doppler echocardiography. Patients' total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), and Oxidative Stress Index (OSI) values were calculated. The effects of oxidative stress and DM on MPI were analyzed. Results: There were 81 patients with DM (mean age: 46.17±10.33 years) and 70 healthy individuals (mean age: 45.72±9.04 years). Mean TOS and OSI values of the DM group were higher than healthy individuals (5.72±0.55 vs 5.31±0.50, p = <0.001; and 4.92±1.93 vs 1.79±0.39, p = <0.001; respectively). The mean TAS value of the DM group was significantly lower than the healthy group (1.21±0.40 vs 3.23±0.51, p = <0.001). There was a significant correlation between OSI and MPI mitral in the DM group (R 0.554, p = <0.001) but not in the healthy group (R -0.069, p=0.249). Conclusions: Both oxidative stress and myocardial dysfunction were found to be more common in patients with DM. The study's findings indicated the negative effect of oxidative stress on myocardial functions. Accordingly, increased oxidative stress caused more significant deterioration in MPI in patients with DM compared with healthy individuals

    Laparoscopic repair vs open repair for perforated peptic ulcers: Quality of life assessment

    Purpose: Studies reporting patient-centered outcomes, including quality of life and satisfaction, in perforated peptic ulcer (PPU) treatment are insufficient. This study was designed to assess the relative efficacy of laparoscopic repair (LR) as opposed to open surgical repair (OR) in the treatment of and its impact on quality of life. Methods: This investigation performed a retrospective review of patients who underwent treatment for PPU at a secondary care hospital between January 2017 and April 2020. Patients were categorized into 2 separate groups according to the type of surgical procedure received: LR and OR. Comparisons were made based on a variety of factors, such as demographic data, intra- and postoperative metrics, pain control, patient contentment, and quality of life indicators. Results: In the analysis, there were no statistically significant differences in demographic or clinical characteristics between the LR (n = 35) and OR (n = 62) groups (P > .05). Conversely, the rates of incisional hernia and surgical site infection were significantly greater in the OR group (P < .05). Moreover, the LR exhibited benefits such as a shorter length of hospital stay (P < .05), more rapid resumption of a normal diet, and fewer surgical site infections-factors that contributed to a lower rate of overall postoperative complications. According to the quality-of-life questionnaire, the LR group exhibited significantly greater scores for physical function, role, pain, and general health by the 30th postoperative day (P = .003, P < .001, P = .006, and P = .001, respectively), and by the 1-year follow-up, the LR group showed substantial improvements in physical function, physical role, emotional role, pain and general health (P = .047, P = .004, P = .039, P = .001, and P = .021, respectively), indicating its effectiveness in patient recovery and quality of life enhancement after surgery. Conclusion: This study showed that LR could provide certain benefits in managing PPUs, such as reduced lengths of hospital stay and lower incidences of surgical site infections. Although LR reported promising directions in patient satisfaction and quality of life indicators, the limited duration of postoperative monitoring necessitates caution in broadly applying these results

    Comfort and wearability properties of custom-made and boil-and-bite mouthguards among basketball players: A randomized parallel arm clinical trial

    Background/Aim: Thermoplastic mouthguards have been a reliable means of protection against impacts and shocks for a century. Although orofacial injuries are prevalent among basketball players, many athletes still avoid using mouthguards due to concerns regarding impaired breathing, speech interference, and nausea. This study aims to compare basketball players' subjective assessments of two different thicknesses of custom-made mouthguards (MGs) with boil-and-bite MGs (B&B MG). Material and Methods: A total of 60 systematically healthy male professional basketball players, without active orthodontic treatment, were enrolled and randomly assigned to three groups: Group 1 (received B&B MGs; n = 20), Group 2 (received custom-made MGs with a 3 mm thickness [ethyl vinyl asetat]; n = 20), and Group 3 (received custom-made MGs with a 5 mm thickness; n = 20). To evaluate MG comfort and usability, 12 key factors, including comfort, fit, stability, tiredness, thirsting, oral dryness, nausea, speaking, breathing, drinking, ease of wear and removal, and inclination to chew, were assessed. The athletes were made to rate these factors using a 10 cm-long Visual Analog Scale, measured at three-time intervals, and the values for both inter-group and intra-group were compared. Results: Data from 48 basketball players were retrieved, and data analysis revealed that B&B MGs had the least favorable parameter values. Among the B&B MG group, stability was reported to be poorer during the initial measurement (p <.05). In the second measurement, B&B MGs showed significantly lower values for comfort, stability, tiredness, speaking, and inclination to chew (p <.05).     Differential diagnosis of submucosal gastric tumors: gastric schwannomas misdiagnosed as GISTs

    Schwannomas commonly occur in the head and neck region but are rarely seen in the gastrointestinal tract; the stomach and small intestine are the most commonly involved sites. These tumors are usually misdiagnosed as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) before histopathological confirmation due to radiological similarity. GI schwannomas show positivity for S100 protein and vimentin but are negative for CD 117 and CD 34, which helps in differentiating the tumor from GISTs. Case 1: a 70-year-old woman was referred to our hospital by complaints of abdominal pain and discomfort. Upper GI endoscopy demonstrated a protruding lesion at the lesser curvature of the gastric body, and fine-needle aspiration biopsy showed chronic inflammation without malignancy. Since the lesion was suspected to be GIST, this patient had surgery, and a gastric schwannoma was resected successfully. Case 2: a 66-year-old female with anemia and abdominal discomfort was found to have a submucosal elevated mass at the greater curvature of the antrum. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was suggestive of a spindle cell tumor resembling GIST. The patient underwent subtotal gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y reconstruction. Histopathology confirmed schwannoma. It is necessary to differentiate gastric schwannomas from other submucosal tumors of the stomach, especially GISTs. Surgical complete resection of schwannomas usually has a good prognosis with a low probability of recurrence. Though rare, gastric schwannomas should be included in the differential diagnosis of submucosal gastric tumors because the correct identification of this tumor type helps in proper management and evasion of unnecessary extensive surgery

    New control model for autonomous vehicles using integration of Model Predictive and Stanley based controllers

    In this paper, a robust control method is introduced for autonomous vehicle control in different scenarios. Dual controllers have been used in this method to ensure high performance and low errors during the vehicle's trip. The new control system is called Model Predictive and Stanley based controller (MPS), which is an integration of a model predictive controller and a Stanley controller. Each of these two controllers has its drawbacks and weaknesses. The proposed method tries to overcome these points and come up with a high-performance control system. This hybrid way of combining two of the famous controllers has the benefit of using the best part of each one and trying to enhance the other part. The MPS is tested for both path-following and vehicle control in different scenarios and on both straight and curved roads. This controller has shown high performance and flexibility to deal with different scenarios of autonomous driving. The results are compared to previous types of controllers, and the proposed system outperformed these types

    This paper introduces a novel optimized droop control employing the Centripetal Force-Gravity Search Algorithm (CF-GSA), a metaheuristic multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. The proposed method aims to enhance droop performance, focusing on power sharing, voltage and frequency stability, and power quality. CF-GSA, specifically designed to address local solution issues common in optimization algorithms, has been demonstrated to be effective and superior through a series of simulations. The simulation results affirm the proposed multi-objective optimization droop control method's capability to rectify issues arising from power sharing errors in isolated AC MGs dealing with high inductive loads and changes in line impedance

    Müzik ve aromaterapinin dental anksiyete ve korku üzerine etkisi

    AMAÇ: Bu çalışmanın amacı, güncel davranış yönlendirme yöntemlerinden olan aromaterapi ve müzik terapisinin çocuklarda dental anksiyete ve korku üzerindeki etkilerini değerlendirmektir. YÖNTEM: Çalışma, Mart 2023- Haziran 2023 tarihleri arasında Altınbaş Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Çocuk Diş Hekimliği Ana Bilim Dalı Kliniği’ne başvuran 6-8 yaş arasındaki 80 çocuk hastanın katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çocuklar, her grupta 20 hasta olacak şekilde aromaterapi, müzik, aromaterapi+müzik ve kontrol grubu olmak üzere dört gruba ayrılmışlardır. Her grup için dental işlem öncesi ve sonrasında Görsel Yüz Skalası (FIS), Corah Dental Anksiyete Skalası (CDAS) ve Modifiye Çocuk Dental Anksiyete Skalası-Yüzler uyarlaması (MCDS-f) skalaları ile nabız, oksijen satürasyonu, vücut sıcaklığı ve tansiyon değerleri ölçülüp kaydedilmiştir. BULGULAR: Aromaterapi grubunda FIS, MCDAS-f ve CDAS değerlerinde, müzik grubunda FIS, MCDAS-f, CDAS, oksijen satürasyonu ve sistolik basınçta, aromaterapi+müzik grubunda ise FIS, MCDAS-f, CDAS, nabız, oksijen satürasyonu ve sistolik basınç değerlerinde istatiksel olarak anlamlı bir azalma tespit edilmiştir (p<0,05). Kontrol grubunda ise FIS, MCDAS-f ve CDAS değerleri aynı kalırken, oksijen satürasyonu, diyastolik basınçta istatiksel olarak anlamlı bir artış olmuştur (p<0,05). Vücut sıcaklığı değeri, aromaterapi grubu hariç tüm gruplarda istatiksel olarak anlamlı olacak şekilde artmıştır (p<0,05). SONUÇ: Aromaterapi ve müzik uygulamaları dental işlemler sırasında uygulandığında çocuklarda dental anksiyete ve korkuyu azaltmakta etkili bulunmuşlardır. Bu yöntemlerden müzik, aromaterapiye göre daha etkili bulunurken ikisinin beraber kullanılması en etkili yöntem olarak tespit edilmiştirOBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is; to evaluate the effects of aromatherapy and music therapy, which are contemporary behavior guidance methods, on dental anxiety and fear in children. METHOD: The study was conducted between March 2023 and June 2023 with the participation of 80 child patients aged 6-8 who applied to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Altınbaş University Faculty of Dentistry. Children were divided into four groups, each consisting of 20 patients, including aromatherapy, music, aromatherapy+music, and a control group. For each group, Facial Image Scale (FIS), Corah Dental Anxiety Scale (CDAS), and Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale-Faces (MCDS-f) were measured and recorded along with pulse rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature, and blood pressure values before and after dental procedures. RESULTS: In the aromatherapy group, a statistically significant decrease was observed in FIS, MCDAS-f, and CDAS values; in the music group, a statistically significant decrease was observed in FIS, MCDAS-f, CDAS, oxygen saturation, and systolic blood pressure; and in the aromatherapy + music group, a statistically significant decrease was detected in FIS, MCDAS-f, CDAS, pulse rate, oxygen saturation, and systolic blood pressure values (p<0.05). In the control group, while FIS, MCDAS-f, and CDAS values remained unchanged, there was a statistically significant increase in oxygen saturation and diastolic blood pressure (p<0.05). Body temperature values increased significantly in all groups except for the aromatherapy group (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Aromatherapy and music applications have been found effective in reducing dental anxiety and fear in children when applied during dental procedures. While music was found to be more effective than aromatherapy, the combination of both was identified as the most effective method
