Factors for the Presence of Abortion Among Girls in High Institutions of Learning in Kabale Municipality.
The study focused on the factors contributing to abortion among girls in higher institutions of learning in Kabale Municipality. It was guided by three objectives: identifying the factors contributing to the prevalence of abortion, assessing the effects of abortion on these girls, and proposing recommendations to address and mitigate the contributing factors. A descriptive research design was employed to gather information retrospectively, utilizing a qualitative approach that included interviews. Data collection methods involved questionnaires and interview guides, with simple random and purposive sampling techniques. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied in data analysis. The findings revealed that factors contributing to abortion among girls in higher institutions included educational attainment, stigma and social norms, access to legal and safe abortion services, financial constraints, and the number of sexual partners. Educational level was particularly significant, with 25% of respondents highlighting it as a key factor. The study also identified the effects of abortion on these girls, such as mental health challenges, stress, coping mechanisms, economic stability, support systems, time management, and academic attendance. The research recommended that the government should implement and enforce policies promoting comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education in educational institutions. This should include a mandatory curriculum covering contraception, safe sex practices, and the legal aspects of abortion
Assessing the Impact of Human Activities on Water Quality Parameters of River Kiruruma in Kabale District.
A comprehensive study was found to evaluate the concentration of different water qualities in the Kiruruma River. Samples were collected from five points (Rwakaraba, Rugarama, Riverside Resort, Jack& Jill, and Nyabikoni SS) in the Nyabikoni water shade during the Hydrological month of October for water quality assessment. Collected samples were analyzed to find some physicochemical parameters Temperature, pH, Alkalinity, Acidity, Total hardness, Sulphate, Chloride, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and phosphorus. The investigated parameters were compared to the national and international standards. The mean values of water Temperature, pH, Alkalinity, Acidity, Total hardness, Sulphate, Chloride, TDS, and phosphorus were found to be 28.36° C, 6.25, 275.63ppm, 19.75ppm, 259.29ppm, 70.74ppm, 534.63ppm, 778.83ppm & 0.904ppm, respectively. Water Quality Index (WQI) values were found to be 99.92, which indicates that the water quality is not good
Analysis of Challenges in Tour Guiding Within Protected Areas of Uganda: A Case Study of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
This study aimed to analyze the challenges facing tour guides in Protected areas using the case study of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Tour guiding is defined as where the tourist is given someone to escort and direct him throughout his or her trip to a certain destination. Tour guides are one of the most significant elements in the tourism industry. They inform, interpret, educate, interact, and communicate with tourists about the destination, its history, culture, local/host community, and the nature of the destination. Tour guiding within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is faced with different challenges that hinder the seamless experience of tourists and jeopardize the preservation of this precious natural habitat. The objectives of the study were to find out challenges facing tour guiding within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, to assess the causes of challenges facing tour guiding in Bwindi Impenetrable, and to suggest solutions to challenges facing tour guiding within the tourism industry in Bwindi National Park. A population of 200 respondents was targeted, however a sample size of 133 was used. Research methods that is questionnaire method were used The researcher constructed a relevant and straight-forward questionnaire for great ease of respondents’ understanding, interpretation and quicker feedback. The findings on challenges facing tour guiding within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park include poor infrastructure, lack of proper training, Language barriers, and Poor communication among stakeholders
Uamilifu wa Sifa katika Mfumo wa Fonimu Konsonanti za Kiswahili.
Makala haya yanachunguza uamilifu wa sifa bainifu katika mfumo wa fonimu konsonanti za Kiswahili. Uhakiki wa mfumo wa fonimu konsonanti za Kiswahili ili kubainisha uamilifu wa sifa katika orodha ya fonimu za Kiswahili umeelezwa kwa kuzingatia michakato ya upokeaji wa maneno yenye asili ya Kiarabu mkiwamo vitamkwa [θ], [ð], [χ] na [ɣ]. Uchunguzi huu ulijikita katika misingi ya uhakiki wa orodha ya vitamkwa ambayo ni Udhibiti wa sifa, Iktisadi ya sifa, Uziada, Utabakishi wa sifa na Uzidishaji wa sifa iliyotolewa na Clements (2003). Data zilikusanywa kutoka Kamusi ya Kiswahili Sanifu, Toleo la 3 na Bosha (1993). Data zilikusanywa kwa njia ya uchanganuzi matini. Matokeo ya uchunguzi huu yanaonesha kuwa kuna misingi inayodhibiti sifa bainifu za fonimu konsonati za Kiswahili. Kwa ujumla, misingi hii inashirikiana kuukilia kaida za mfumo wa fonimu za Kiswahili kama uelekeo wa msambao wa fonimu na nafasi za kutamkia. Aidha, matokeo yanaonesha kuwa fonimu za Kiswahili zinadhihirisha ruwaza wiani katika mfumo huo. Uchunguzi wa Sababu za Kuwapo Kwa Wanafunzi Wachache Wanaolichagua Somo la Kiswahili Katika Kiwango Cha “A” Nchini Uganda: Mfano wa Shule za Upili Wilayani Rukungiri.
Katika Tasnifu, mtafiti anaeleza visababishi vya idadi kubwa ya wanafunzi katika shule za upili nchini Uganda kutochukua somo la Kiswahili. Wakati wa kupunguza idadi ya masomo kwa kila mwanafunzi unapofika, wanafunzi huwa na sababu za kimsingi zinazowafanya wapendelee masomo fulani na kuyakataa mengine. Kwa kawaida wanafunzi huwa hawalazimishwi kuchukua masomo fulani. Kila mwanafunzi huwa na uhuru wa kuchagua masomo anayoyapenda. Imebainika wazi kuwa nchini Uganda, wakati wa wanafunzi kupunguza idadi ya masomo unapofika, wengi wao huwa wanaacha somo la Kiswahili. Katika darasa la wanafunzi mia moja, ni wanafunzi kumi au kumi na watano tu ndio wanachukua Kiswahili. Hali hii inatisha sana hasa kwa wapenzi wa Kiswahili. Hivyo basi, mtafiti aliendeleza utafiti huu ili kueleza sababu zinazopelekea wanafunzi kufanya hivyo. Dhamira ya utafiti ni kueleza bayana kwa nini wanafunzi wengi nchini Uganda huwa hawachukui somo la Kiswahili katika kiwango cha “A”. Madhumuni ya utafiti huu ni kueleza mielekeo ya wanafunzi wa shule za sekondari nchini Uganda dhidi ya ujifunzaji wa lugha ya Kiswahili na Kupendekeza njia mbalimbali za kuondokana na sababu za kuwapo kwa wanafunzi wachache wanaolichagua somo la kiswahili katika kiwango cha “A” katika shule za upili wilayani Rukungiri. Katika kazi hii, mkabala wa utafiti ulikuwa wa nyanjani. Kwa kutumia mkabala huu, mtafiti alizuru nyanjani na kuendeleza mahojiano na wahojiwa wake. Utafiti huu umeonyesha kuwa wanafunzi wa shule za sekondari nchini Uganda huwa hawapendelei somo la Kiswahili kwa sababu zifuatazo: kuwepo na sera mbovu nchini kuhusu lugha ya Kiswahili; wanafunzi kutokuwa na msingi wa lugha ya Kiswahili; wanafunzi kuwa na fikra potovu kuwa Kiswahili ni lugha ya wezi; wanafunzi kufikiria kuwa Kiswahili ni somo linalofaa wenzao kutoka Kenya na Uganda; wanafunzi kufikiria kuwa lugha ya Kiswahili ni ngumu
Motivation and Employee Performance in Local Governments: A Case Study of Kanungu District Local Government Headquarters.
The purpose of this study was to unveil the role of motivation on employee performance and service provision in Kanungu District Local Government Headquarters. The study adopted a case study design using a quantitative research approach, Forty (40) respondents were selected for the study using a purposive sampling method. The respondents selected were from the various departments of Kanungu District Local Government Headquarters. The research results revealed that the motivation tools in use in Kanungu District Local Government Headquarters are salary and benefits, rewards and motivation, opportunities for growth and development, job security, supportive work environment, valuable feedback, appraisal, and appreciation. Most of the respondents (55%) strongly agreed that their work performance meets the organization's expectations. 63% of the respondents also strongly agreed that there was a link between their performance and the success of Kanungu District Local Government Headquarters. In trying to test the relationship between motivation and employee performance, 85% of the respondents strongly agreed that motivated employees perform better while 7% were neutral about this. 80% of the respondents also strongly agreed that there is a relationship between motivation and employee performance. Effects of Domestic Violence on Suicide Among Students: A Case Study of Kabale Municipality.
The study examined the effect of domestic violence on suicide among students in Kabale municipality. It was guided by the following objectives; to examine the association between domestic violence and suicide attempts among students in Kabale Municipality, to assess the prevalence and patterns of domestic violence among students in Kabale Municipality, and to identify different strategies for improving the prevention efforts and support systems for students affected by domestic violence and at risk of suicide in Kabale municipality.
The study adopted a descriptive research design comprising both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The study included Students, Parents, and community members. The researcher used a sample size of 70 respondents. The study was based on questionnaires and interviews. The collected data was analyzed manually using tallies and the responses of the subjects were then categorized in frequency counts and score tables with varying percentages calculated and later tabulation method was used to present data.
The present study revealed the association between domestic violence and suicide attempts among students and highlighted key factors which included impact on mental health, academic Impact, protective factors and interventions, and depression. The study further examined the prevalence and patterns of domestic violence among students as depression, decline in school performance, distress due to verbal conflict between parents, and verbal alteration. The study established the different strategies for improving the prevention efforts and support systems for students affected by domestic violence and at risk of suicide which included sensitization and mobilization, instigating child protection investigations into situations of domestic violence, peer support programs, and counseling and support service
Phytochemical Screening of the Roots, Stem, Leaves and Flowers of Tithonia Diversifolia For Antimicrobial Properties.
Plants are the most available sources of nutrients and phytochemicals, which have played an important role in the development of drugs and treatment of various ailments. Therefore, this study was carried to ascertain the phytochemical classes of the bioactive compounds from the leaves, flowers, stems, and roots of Tithonia diversifolia and their antimicrobial activity. The solvents used in the extraction of the phytochemicals from the plant extracts were 99.5% Methanol and 99.5% Dichloromethane. Results revealed the presence of flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, carbohydrates, glycosides, anthraquinones, proteins, volatile oils, and reducing sugars.
The study concluded that the plant extracts contained several bioactive chemicals that are effective for antimicrobial activity. These chemicals confer ethnopharmacological effects on humans and animals
Training and Employee Performance in Uganda: A Case of National Water and Sewarage Corporation
This study investigated the relationship between Training and Employee Performance in Uganda, considering the case of National Water and Sewerage Corporation-Rukungiri District. The study's specific goals were to examine the relationship between on-the-job training and employee performance, determine the relationship between off-the-job training and employee performance, and find out the challenges that affect training and employee performance at NWSC Rukungiri District. Senior human resource managers and managerial and technical personnel made up the sample of 96 respondents, and the study was conducted using a cross-sectional and descriptive survey approach. Self-administered questionnaires and interviews were used to gather primary data, and document reviews were used to gather secondary data. The research findings indicate a statistically significant positive relationship (r=0.701, p<0.01) between on-the-job training and employee performance at NWSC-Rukungiri District. The study also found that off-the-job training and employee performance at NWSC-Rukungiri District had a moderately significant positive relationship (r=0.633, p<0.01). The study also discovered that the main challenges to training at NWSC-Rukungiri District are lack of proper training approaches (β =7.153, p<0.05), use of inappropriate training technology, and lack of training feedback (β =6.174, p<0.05). The study concluded that improving on-the-job training would significantly improve workers' productivity. It was also determined that enhancing staff training outside of the workplace will only marginally enhance output. The study came to a further conclusion that the absence of training feedback, using appropriate training technology, and a lack of diversity in training methodologies are the main issues affecting training at NWSC-Rukungiri District. The study advised the corporation to adopt coaching, job instructional approaches, and apprenticeship on-the-job training methods to train employees in order to increase performance. The study also suggested that the corporation should adopt the use of role acting, simulation, and case challenges and embrace a variety of training modalities, such as individualised digital platforms, online instruction, and feedback on training outcomes to identify any training gaps that future initiatives should fill.Kabale Universit
Quel Français Pour Les Etudiants De La Faculte De Genie De L’universite De Kabale?
Cet article se donne pour objectif d’analyser les besoins langagiers des étudiants de français à la faculté de génie de l’Université de Kabale afin de recommander la variété du français qui correspond à leurs besoins et leurs attentes. L’Ouganda est un pays de pluralité linguistique avec plus de 40 langues locales. L’anglais et le swahili sont les langues officielles. Le français occupe un statut de langue étrangère mais il est privilégié en raison de son importance dans la région. Pour notre recherche, nous avons interviewé et tenu des discussions avec trente-cinq étudiants qui apprennent le français à la faculté de génie, leurs enseignants, le doyen et trois chefs de département. Nous avons également adressé des questionnaires à
trois ingénieurs basés à Kabale. Les résultats de la recherche révèlent que la majorité des étudiants apprennent le français pour des raisons de carrière car ils espèrent avoir à traiter avec des francophones. L’analyse du curriculum a trouvé que l’enseignement se limite au français général qui ne prend pas en compte les besoins des étudiants. Notre recherche recommande l’élaboration d’un module détaillé de français sur objectifs spécifiques (FOS) spécialisé en français de l’Ingénierie. L‘approche pédagogique prônée est la pédagogie de projet pour renforcer et compléter la perspective actionnelle actuellement employée par les enseignants. Enfin, des formations pédagogiques ciblées pour les professeurs de français sont recommandées
