Role of Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) In Improving the Socio- Economic Wellbeing of the Elderly Persons in Ikumba Sub-County Rubanda District.
The study focused on the role of the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) in enhancing the socio-economic well-being of elderly individuals in Ikumba Sub-county, Rubanda District. It was guided by three research objectives: to assess the contributions of the SAGE program in improving the socio-economic conditions of the elderly, to identify challenges associated with the Senior Citizens Grant, and to propose solutions to address these challenges and improve the well-being of elderly beneficiaries. A descriptive research design was employed, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods. A sample size of 48 respondents was selected from Ikumba Sub-county. The study's recommendations were based on the findings. Key recommendations included empowering anti-corruption agencies within the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development to operate effectively without fear or favoritism. The study also suggested revising the age eligibility criteria for SAGE to include individuals aged 70–79, as many in this group are too frail to sustain their livelihoods. Additionally, it called for a review of the dynamics of the SAGE program to address the influx of new entrants into the grant system. Public sensitization campaigns were recommended to be conducted at least twice per quarter to ensure those nearing eligibility are aware of the program and can apply for inclusion. The study concluded that addressing the challenges faced by SAGE in improving the socio-economic well-being of elderly individuals requires a multifaceted approach. This includes reinforcing government policies and laws, incentivizing investments, enhancing administrative capacity, curbing unproductive expenditures, tackling corruption, ensuring access to basic services, stabilizing the economy, and engaging non-governmental organizations in anti-corruption efforts. These strategies collectively aim to enhance the effectiveness of SAGE in Ikumba Sub-county, Rubanda District
Factors Associated with Healthcare-Seeking Behavior among Health Profession Students in Selected Universities in Southwestern Uganda.
Introduction: Health professional students (HPS) tend to seek informal health care associated with self-medication (SM). Therefore, this study investigated the factors associated with healthcare-seeking behavior (HSB) among HPS. Methods: The study employed a cross-sectional design. Four hundred (400) HPS from two universities Bishop Stuart University (BSU) and Kampa-
la International University Western Campus (KIU)] in southwestern Uganda were selected using a convenience sampling method. Data was collected using a Google form containing structured questions. The link to the questionnaire
was sent to prospective participants via WhatsApp platform or email between September and November 2021. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Mbarara University Research Ethics Committee. Data were entered into SPSS software and analyzed using descriptive chi-square statistics, and logistic regression. HSB was considered formal or appropriate if the participant usually sought healthcare from a health worker. Results: A total of 400 HPS were enrolled, 60.3% were males, and the mean age of the participants was 23.06 (SD =2.74) years. Fifty-seven percent (57.5%) of the participants consulted a health worker when ill in the last 12 months (had formal HSB). Most participants’ main reason for seeking health care was to treat the underlying illness (73.3%). About sixty-nine percent (68.6%) of the participants treated themselves during the most recent illness or health problem. Most of the partici-
pants searched the internet for health-related information when ill at some point. (Sometimes = 35.8%, Always = 27%, Often = 16%).The academic year of HPS (P < 0.001), access to health facilities (P = 0.018), being too busy (P =0.028), and minor illnesses (P < 0.001) were significantly associated with healthcare-seeking behavior. The lower academic years 1 & 2 (OR = 0.453, P < 0.001, 95% CI = 0.296 - 0.695) and easy access to the health facility (OR = 0.447 P < 0.001, 95% CI = 0.287 - 0.696) were predictors of formal HSB, being too busy (OR = 1.620, P = 0.049, 95% CI = 1.002 - 2.621) and having a minor illness (OR = 2.465, P< 0.001, 95% CI = 1.597 - 3.803) were predictors of informal healthcare seeking behavior. Conclusion: Our study findings indicate that a larger proportion of the participants sought formal health advice upon getting ill although others resorted to self-medication. Accessibility to health facilities and lower academic years predicted formal healthcare-seeking behavior while minor illnesses and being too busy predicted informal HSB among health profession students. Health training institutions should have easily accessible student-friendly healthcare facilities to promote formal healthcare-seeking behavior
Impact of Architectural Sculpture Design on Buildings: A Case Study of Kigezi Region.
The research presented the links between the different aids of art that were sculpture and architecture both in 2D and 3D. The great influence of expressionist sculpture on architecture was emphasized in the buildings of Kigezi region. Modern buildings could often look like built monuments. Sculptors distance themselves from their earlier version, the erection of a building – whether commercial, church, residential, or mosque, advance planning, and commitment over many years. The number of people involved in any communal project, from sponsors (whether states, or individuals) to designers, architects, and sculptors, was enormous. In studying architectural sculpture, the researcher was faced with originals, usually founded in context and with some closely dated inscriptions and references in written texts; although most sculptors who hold free-standing sculpture in such high regard had little to say about architectural compositions. Architectural sculpture emerges as a testament to human ingenuity in the realm of form and space, where concrete meets metal. It is not merely construction, but a dialogue between materiality and imagination, a dance of shadows and light. Sculpture stands, not just in physical dimensions, but also as a sculpture of thought, representing the architect's silent conversation with time and culture. Each line, curve, and angle was a verse in a poem of stone and steel, a narrative frozen in the permanence of structure. This was the essence of architectural sculpture a fusion of utility and beauty, where the mundane was elevated to the magnificent, and buildings breathed with the soul of art. This aimed to capture the essence of architectural sculpture, blending the functional aspects of architecture with the expressive nature of sculpture to create something that transcends both disciplines

Analysis of Power Outages in Kabale Town: A Case Study of 33 KV Mbarara North-Kabale West Feeder.
This project examined the 33kV Mbarara North-Kabale feeder, a vital power supply line for Kabale Town, to address the persistent power outages affecting the region. The primary objectives were to evaluate the existing feeder infrastructure, analyze outage data, and propose solutions to minimize these disruptions. Spanning 145 km, the feeder traverses challenging environmental and geographical terrain, contributing to infrastructure stress and reliability concerns. The study included a comprehensive analysis of the feeder's infrastructure and load characteristics. A load flow assessment highlighted issues such as voltage fluctuations, significant power losses, and points of failure stemming from aged or insufficient equipment. Outage data revealed technical challenges, including surge arrestor failures, broken jumpers, damaged poles, and improper fuse ratings. Faulty surge arrestors were unable to clear faults, and over-sagging conductors posed risks of low-voltage and high-voltage contact. Environmental factors further exacerbated these problems, with tree cutting in Kyobugombe and Ndija, forested areas in Maziba, deteriorating poles in Katinda, and frequent lightning in Rubaya causing line faults and prolonged outages. To mitigate these issues, the study proposed several technical and operational interventions. These included upgrading surge protection devices, replacing degraded infrastructure, enhancing tree trimming and vegetation control, and ensuring the availability of correctly rated fuses in the Ugandan market. Additional recommendations involved improving the functionality of Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs) and Ground Voltage Regulators (GVRs) to stabilize voltage along the feeder
