Effects of Thematic Curriculum on Learners' Acquisition of English Skills in Selected Primary Schools of Nkuringo Town Council Kisoro District-Uganda.
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the thematic curriculum in fostering English language skills among learners. The research has three primary objectives: first, to assess the level of English skills acquisition among students in schools implementing the thematic curriculum; second, to compare these skills with those of learners in schools utilizing traditional curriculum methods; and third, to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the thematic curriculum in promoting English language proficiency. A mixed-methods approach collected data from a diverse sample of students and educators across various educational institutions. Preliminary findings suggest that while the thematic curriculum enhances certain aspects of language acquisition, disparities exist when compared to traditional methods. This research highlights critical insights into curriculum design and pedagogical strategies, offering implications for educational policy and practice to improve English language education
Investigating the Water Sources Qualities and their Implications on Public Health in Kamuli District: A Case Study of Kamuli District.
This study investigated the quality of water sources in Kamuli District, Uganda, and assessed their implications for public health. The research highlighted the critical relationship between water quality and health outcomes, particularly in rural settings where access to clean water is limited. Through a comprehensive analysis of various water sources, including boreholes, wells, and surface water, the study identifies prevalent contaminants and their potential health risks, such as waterborne diseases. Data were collected using water sampling and laboratory analysis, alongside community health surveys to evaluate the incidence of diseases related to poor water quality. The findings revealed significant correlations between contaminated water sources and increased rates of gastrointestinal diseases in the local population. Recommendations for improving water quality management and public health interventions are discussed to mitigate the health risks associated with inadequate water sanitation practices in the region
Design and Simulation of a Solar Thermal Dryer for Fruits.
The write-up presented in this report focused on the design and manufacture of a solar thermal dryer for fruits that dries 5Kg of fruit slices, 5mm thick per batch, and can be used for small-scale farmers that grow fruits in western Uganda following a challenge they face like pests and disease infestation during open sun drying, nutrient loss and among others.
The designed dryer aims to improve food security and reduce waste since there will be reduced post-harvest losses allowing people to preserve fruits for longer periods. More so, there will be economic empowerment and income generation as it will necessitate shelf-stable products that can be stored and sold thus generating additional income.
The main objective was to design and manufacture a user-friendly solar fruit dryer that utilizes minimal effort and harnesses the power of the sun to dehydrate various fruits into tasty chips. This was guided by three specific objectives i.e. to conceptualize the design of an efficient solar thermal system for drying fruits, optimize the drying efficiency by creating a controlled airflow system, and evaluate the performance of the proposed dryer through simulation.
The methods used in carrying out this project included library search, internet search, and brainstorming of different ideas. By reviewing the design parameters of other already established related designs, the conceptual design was formulated and developed in SOLIDWORKS.
The design of major components was carried out while others were selected. Steady-state thermal and fluent analyses were performed with the help of the ANSYS workbench 2024 R1 software to study the behavior of the absorber plate, solar collector, and trays
Integration of Oral Literature in Teaching and Learning Literature in Selected Secondary Schools in Ntungamo District.
The study focused on the integration of oral literature into the teaching and learning of literature in selected secondary schools in the Ntungamo District. Its objectives were to examine the extent to which oral literature is integrated into literature teaching, propose ways to incorporate oral literature into the curriculum while preserving its performative characteristics and evaluate the impact of oral literature on learners in society. The study employed a survey design, collecting data through questionnaires and interviews to capture information about individuals' attitudes, opinions, and practices. Findings revealed that a majority of respondents (70.8%) reported implementing specific strategies to maintain the performative elements of oral literature, reflecting an understanding of the importance of preserving traditional oral narratives in the classroom. The study concluded that although oral literature is valued in education, its integration into the secondary school curriculum in Nthe tungamo District is inconsistent. Effective integration requires a supportive educational framework, including sufficient resources, specialized teacher training, and curriculum modifications to incorporate the performative aspects of oral literature fully. The study recommended specialized training for literature teachers to equip them with skills to teach oral literature effectively using creative and interactive methods. Additionally, it suggested providing schools with resources such as recordings of oral literature, detailed lesson plans, and teaching aids to facilitate its integration into the curriculum
Assessing the Impact of Covid19-Pandemic on the Household Income in Kamuganguzi Sub-County Kabale District.
The study focused on the impact of COVID-19 on household income in Kamuganguzi sub-county, Kabale district. The research objectives were to determine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on household income in Kamuganguzi sub-county, identify the coping mechanisms households adopted in response to these effects, and assess the extent to which these coping mechanisms succeeded in alleviating the impact of COVID-19 on household income. A descriptive research design was used, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data. The sample size consisted of 90 respondents from Kamuganguzi sub-county.The study's findings revealed that male respondents comprised 56.7% of the participants, and married respondents accounted for 64%. Additionally, 33.3% of respondents reported that reduced food rations, leading to famine, were a major effect of COVID-19 on families. The study's recommendations included the following: The government should increase spending on immediate health-related expenditures, such as supplies of masks, gloves, other personal protective equipment, ICU beds (Uganda currently has only 55 functional ICU beds, resulting in approximately 1.3 ICU beds per million Ugandans), and ventilators. The government should also ensure that some of the reallocated health sector budget supports non-COVID-19 health concerns, from basic to emergency healthcare. Large-scale testing is necessary to address the pandemic and treat the sick, as without it, the economic and social impact is likely to be prolonged and exacerbate the problem. Innovative approaches, such as using artificial intelligence in high-risk/high-traffic sites to enhance COVID-19 detection efficiency while protecting medical staff and the general public from cross-infections, should be considered. Additionally, the government should establish a physical and automated platform for coordination and resource mobilization to support poor students and the most vulnerable groups affected by COVID-19-related lockdowns
Effect of Supervision on Employee Performance in Business Organisations in Kabale District: A Case Study of Kigezi Industries Limited in Kabale Municipality.
This study examined the effect of supervision on employee performance in business organizations in Kabale district a case study of Kigezi Industries Limited in Kabale Municipality. The objectives of the study were; to examine different techniques of supervision used in business organizations to enhance employee performance, to investigate the effect of supervision on employee performance in business organizations, and to identify other related factors that affect employee performance apart from supervision of employees in business organizations. A descriptive research design was used and data was collected using interviews and questionnaires. The study findings on the different techniques of supervision used in business organizations to enhance employee performance were; employee training and development, peer review and team evaluation, performance appraisals, coaching and mentoring, and behavior-based feedback. The study findings on the effects of supervision on employee performance in business organizations were; job satisfaction, motivation and engagement, team collaboration, feedback and improvement, and reduced turnover of employees. The study findings on the other related factors that affect employee performance apart from supervision of employees in business organizations were; work environment, recognition and rewards, company culture, leadership, and job security. The study recommended that organizations should provide employee assistance programs that offer support for personal and professional challenges which can include counseling services, financial advice, or other resources to help employees navigate difficulties and improve their performance and the supervisors of the organizations should ensure that training programs that are given to employees align with the overall goals and objectives of the organization since this alignment can help employees to understand the relevance of their training to the success of the company
Transport Systems Tracking and Inventory Security: A Case of Mega Bakery, Kabale.
The study was about Transport Systems Tracking and inventory Security: A case of Mega Bakery, Kabale and it was guided by the following study objectives; to assess the current state of transportation systems tracking technologies used by Mega bakery, Kabale, to identify the key security challenges faced by inventory Mega bakery, Kabale, and to evaluate existing policies and regulations related to cargo security in Mega Bakery, Kabale. The cross-sectional survey design was used to collect quantitative approach of research. This helped the researcher to collect in-depth data regarding the research study. Using Krejcie and Morgan table, the sample size was 66 respondents who were chosen purposively due to scarcity of resources available to the researcher. Simple random sampling that was employed to select respondents in order to reduce bias in sampling. Purposive sampling was used to select respondent’s categories who included management staff. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis tools were used by the researcher. Qualitatively, findings from the study were categorized into themes and sub themes. Field findings was coded together to generate frequencies and tallies. This was fed into computer using excel and word package to analyze data. Quantitative data analysis tools were used such as micro soft word, excel and the data was presented by frequency tables and percentages in order to make the presentation easier for the readers to interpret. The findings revealed that Mega Bakery, Kabale GPS Tracking Systems where many bakeries have adopted Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to monitor the location of delivery vehicles in real-time. They revealed that this allows firms to optimize routes, reduce delivery times, and improve customer satisfaction. They revealed that Mega Bakery Kabale uses GPS tracking to ensure that its fresh bread reaches customers within a specific timeframe, thereby maintaining quality. This was represented by 30% of the respondents. The findings revealed that transport licensing regulations in Uganda require all vehicles used for commercial purposes—including those transporting baked goods—to be registered with relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Works and Transport. These regulations also mandate that drivers undergo training on safe handling practices for perishable goods. One of the respondent cited out example of mega bakery firm may need to provide proof of vehicle registration along with evidence that their drivers have completed training on food safety protocols before they can legally transport their products as represented by 21% of the respondents
Optimal Control Harmony: Navigating Deterministic and Stochastic Realms with a Two-Strain Model Using Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle.
In this paper, we study optimal control solutions using a two-strain SARS-CoV-2 deterministic epidemic model characterized by standard
incidence, alongside a two-strain stochastic model incorporating a random transmission rate. We present proofs demonstrating the existence, uniqueness, and boundedness of a positive solution for any positive initial value for both models. An algorithm for simulating the ensemble average optimal control solution is introduced and it realism is compared to both stochastic and deterministic solutions. Additionally, we include graphical representations to illustrate the dynamics and outcomes of our models. Our findings suggest that ensemble average optimal control simulations may offer enhanced visualization and realism compared to both stochastic and deterministic solutions
Students’ Daily Attendance Management System.
This final year project focused on developing a Daily Student Attendance Management System to replace traditional attendance tracking methods with a more streamlined, precise, and dependable solution. Attendance is a vital metric in educational institutions, essential for record-keeping and evaluating student performance. However, manual methods often lead to data inaccuracies, inefficiencies, and added administrative challenges. This project introduced a web-based system that automates attendance recording and report generation to address these issues, enhancing operational efficiency and usability. The system provides an intuitive interface for teachers and administrators, enabling real-time tracking and management of student attendance data. By minimizing human errors and ensuring data accuracy, it supports better decision-making in budgeting and resource allocation. The system was developed using web-based programming languages, including HTML, CSS, and PHP, with MySQL employed for database management. Rigorous testing ensured optimal performance and functionality across various modules, such as student and staff management. Implementing this system is anticipated to enhance administrative processes, reduce workloads, and deliver more accurate data for informed decision-making. Future enhancements may include integrating advanced features such as biometric attendance tracking and expanding the system's scope to accommodate additional departments within the institution
Covid-19 Pandemic and Students Performance in Selected Secondary Schools in Rukungiri District.
The study focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students' performance in selected secondary schools in Rukungiri District. Conducted in three randomly chosen secondary schools, the study aimed to: investigate the pandemic's impact on students' academic performance, examine the influence of remote learning modalities implemented during the pandemic, and identify and analyze socio-economic and psychological factors affecting students' academic performance during this period. The researcher employed a descriptive survey design to collect data, which provided a detailed description of the schools and respondents involved. Out of a total sample of 539 participants, 500 took part in the study. Data collection methods included both questionnaires and interviews. The data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative techniques and presented in tables, frequencies, and percentages.
The findings highlighted the critical role of transitioning to digital platforms, stressing the need for educational institutions to ensure the quality and effectiveness of online instructional methods, in line with literature on the challenges of global crises. The researcher concluded that recognizing psychological well-being as a key factor influencing academic performance is consistent with the growing literature on the pandemic's psychosocial impact on students. Issues like stress, anxiety, and mental health problems, intensified by the pandemic's uncertainty and disruption, have contributed to difficulties in concentration and academic engagement. The researcher recommended initiatives to bridge the digital divide by ensuring equitable access to technology for all students, including providing devices and reliable internet connectivity to those in need
