Decentralization Policy and Economic Development in Nyarusiza Sub-County Kisoro District.
This study was conducted to explore the impact of decentralization on service delivery in Nyarusiza Sub-County, Kisoro District, with a specific focus on three parishes within the sub-county. The study had several objectives: to analyze the role of decentralization in promoting economic development in Nyarusiza Sub-County, to assess the impact of educational decentralization on economic growth, and to examine the relationship between agricultural decentralization and economic development in Nyarusiza Sub-County, Kisoro District. A case study approach was employed to provide an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of decentralization and its effects on service delivery. Data collection methods included questionnaires, interviews, and documentary reviews. Data was entered into a computer system and analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative techniques, with themes and subthemes developed from the study objectives. Findings revealed that educational decentralization has contributed to improved academic achievement by granting increased autonomy to communities and teachers. Respondents noted that the government, through the Ministry of Health, has emphasized prevention through mass sensitization campaigns on personal hygiene and healthy lifestyles, accounting for 25% of responses. Additionally, agricultural decentralization has led to improved services such as input supply, marketing, and rural finance for farmers. The government has also established mechanisms like farmers' cooperatives and agricultural banks to provide credit for input supply, further supporting agricultural development

Assessing the Effect of Different Particle Sizes of Coarse Aggregates on Concrete Properties.
Concrete's compressive strength represents the hardened concrete's capacity to resist compressive loads without cracking or deforming. Duff Abrams found that concrete strength largely depends on the water-to-cement ratio. However, other factors, such as cement strength class and fineness, concrete age, curing duration, admixtures, and aggregate properties (including size, shape, texture, and strength), also significantly impact compressive strength. This study investigated how varying particle sizes of coarse aggregate affect concrete properties. Results showed that compressive strength at 28 days increased as the size of coarse aggregates decreased, with strengths recorded at 25, 23.3, 21.5, and 19.7 MPa for 10, 14, 20, and 28 mm aggregate sizes, respectively. This trend is attributed to denser packing and stronger bonding among smaller particles. Additionally, workability was found to increase with larger aggregate sizes, with slumps measured at 76, 81, 87, and 98 mm for 10, 14, 20, and 28 mm aggregates, respectively, due to larger aggregates having a lower surface-to-volume ratio, which reduces contact between aggregate particles and the cement paste

Modelling the Effect of Partial Replacement of River Sand by Quarry Dust on Concrete Compressive Strength.
The depletion of river sand and its environmental impact has led to the exploration of alternative fine aggregates for concrete. This study investigates the use of quarry dust, a by-product of rock crushing, as a partial replacement for river sand in concrete. Experimental results demonstrate that replacing up to 45% of river sand with quarry dust optimally enhances compressive strength, achieving a maximum of 34.19 MPa. Beyond this optimum replacement level, the compressive strength begins to decrease. This reduction in strength is attributed to an increase in the quarry dust content, which results in higher water demand due to its finer particle size and greater water absorption, ultimately reducing the mix's workability. A regression model, fc = 26.21056 + 0.36698X − 0.00548X2 + 1.61314E-5X3, was developed to predict concrete strength based on the quarry dust content. The model's R-squared value of 0.9556 indicates a high level of correlation between the predicted and observed compressive strengths, confirming the reliability of the model in forecasting concrete performance with varying quarry dust proportion
Effect of Parental Care and Teenage Pregnancy in Kirima Sub-County Kanungu District.
The study focused on parental care and its role in promoting teenage pregnancy, using Kirima Sub-county in Kanungu District as a case study. The objectives included investigating how parental care influences teenage pregnancy in the area, examining other factors contributing to teenage pregnancy, and identifying solutions to the problems related to parental care and teenage pregnancy. The research used a cross-sectional survey design and involved 50 respondents, selected through both purposive and simple random sampling. Data was collected using questionnaires. The study concluded that socio-economic conditions in households affect the education of girls, particularly due to issues related to parenting styles and teenage pregnancy. These challenges include poverty, which affects the ability of parents to afford school-related costs like uniforms and other supplies, poor sanitation and hygiene at schools, and negative attitudes from teachers and school administrators towards girls' education. Other factors promoting teenage pregnancy can be addressed through parental involvement, environmental factors, government intervention, parents' education and economic backgrounds, education for girls, awareness programs on teenage pregnancy, and financial support. The study recommends that the Ministry of Education (MOE) should work to ensure girls have access to education on par with boys, by implementing existing policies such as providing sanitary pads/towels. It also suggests that parents be educated and sensitized about their financial responsibilities beyond tuition fees, such as paying for development and feeding program fees. Female teachers should serve as role models, encouraging girls to stay in school and emphasizing the importance of education for their future
Determining Bandgap of Thermochromic Phosphor Films via Reflectance Measurements under Controlled Heating.
In this article, we present a method to determine the bandgap of a thermochromic phosphor film by simple reflectance measurements under controlled heating. The phosphor is illuminated by a light-emitting diode while being heated continuously. The reflected light is detected using a calibrated photodiode circuit based on an operational transconductance amplifier. We apply the Schuster- Kubelka-Munk function to deduce the absorbance over temperature and thus the bandgap. We show, for the first time, that the thermochromic phosphor's colour change follows Arrhenius's Law and therefore involves activation energy. We estimate the bandgap to be between 1.1 eV and 1.9 eV and find an activation energy of 46.67 ±1.6 kJ/mol. The simplicity of the approach will appeal to undergraduate teachers and students of physics and materials science. The technique can be used to investigate other thermochromic materials as well
Design and Construction of a Beam Balance.
The main aim of this project is to design and construct a beam balance from locally available materials which is used to measure unknown masses by comparing their weight to a known standard weight. The project aims to create a precision balance that can accurately measure weight of various objects from smaller objects to larger items of about 5 kilograms. The methodology employed in the project typically involves selecting appropriate materials (piece of timber) for the balance s beam, as well as designing a steady and stable base to support the balance. The construction process involves assembling the components and calibrating the balance to ensure accurate readings
