    Design and Construction of an Anti-Sleep Alarm System for Drivers.

    The prevalence of road accidents due to driver drowsiness necessitates the development of effective anti-sleep alarms. This report details the design and construction of an anti-sleep alarm intended to mitigate drowsiness among drivers. The system integrates a sensor to monitor physiological and behavioral indicators of drowsiness, coupled with a microcontroller to process data and activate alerts. This approach enhances reliability and provides a robust solution to driver fatigue and drowsiness

    Mathematical Model for the Transmission Dynamics of Malaria in Kabale Municipality.

    The purpose of this study was to develop a mathematical model for the transmission dynamics of malaria in western Uganda. Malaria remains one of the most prevalent and lethal human infections worldwide. It is caused by the protozoan Plasmodium, transmitted to vertebrates by female genus Anopheles mosquitoes when they feed on blood. The mathematical model was developed based on SIER. The disease-free equilibrium, Xo for mosquitoes is obtained in the absence of the disease. A malaria model was developed and analyzed to study the stability of both disease-free and endemic equilibrium points. Using the matrix generation approach, the basic reproduction number R0 was computed. Therefore, the disease-free equilibrium of the model obtained is both locally and globally stable for R0<1. It is also shown that the endemic equilibrium solution of the model is globally asymptotically stable if R0>1

    The aim of this research was to construct a mathematical framework describing the transmission dynamics of malaria in western Uganda. Malaria persists as one of the most widespread and deadly human infections globally, caused by the Plasmodium parasite and transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes during blood feeding. The mathematical model utilized in this study was structured upon the SIER framework. The model incorporated an analysis of both disease-free and endemic equilibrium points to assess their stability. Employing a matrix-based approach, the basic reproduction number R0 was calculated to quantify disease transmission dynamics. The findings indicate that the disease-free equilibrium of the model is stable locally and globally when R0 is less than 1. Conversely, the endemic equilibrium solution of the model was demonstrated to be globally asymptotically stable when R0 exceeds 1

    Impact of Sexual Harassment on Pupils Academic Performance in Selected Primary Schools of Kitumba Sub-County Kabale District.

    The study examined the impact of sexual harassment on pupils' academic performance in selected primary schools of Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district. The Study followed research objectives which were to identify different forms of sexual harassment on pupils' academic performance, to assess the impact of sexual harassment on pupils’ academic performance, and to suggest possible intervention measures to reduce sexual harassment among pupils. The methodology of the study was a descriptive research design using both qualitative and quantitative tools. A sample size of 80 respondents was selected from respondents of primary schools of Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district. The findings of the study revealed that female respondents were highly represented with the study and they were marked with 71%, allows rape with 20% among the major cause of sexual harassment which affects pupils' academic performance in primary schools, 22% revealed that decline in academic performance due to sexual harassment. Based on the results obtained in this study, it is recommended that based on study objectives, the study included that there were different forms of sexual harassment on pupils' academic performance as they included; Defilement, Indecent, Assault, Personal ethnocultural, Bad touches, Rape, Sexual harassment and Sexualized conversations. There were also different impacts of sexual harassment on pupils’ academic performance in primary schools of Kitumba sub-county in Kabale district such as sexual harassment harms pupils' life, Tantrums, Decreased academic performance, Changes pupils thinking capacity, Physical injuries, Fear, Decreases self-esteem among pupils and Distressed mind among pupils were the key impacts of impact of sexual harassment on pupil’s academic performance in primary schools of Kitumba sub-county in Kabale district. School-related gender-based violence is a global phenomenon that knows no geographical, ethnic economic, social, cultural, or other boundaries. School-related gender-based violence or abuse is based on gendered stereotypes that target pupils based on their sex, sexuality, or gender identities. It happens around all societies and symbolizes a brutal violation of human rights most especially for the weaker sex. It also happens in schools where parents and guardians feel that their children are safe and protected. The study recommends that; Concerning the effects of sexual harassment on school-going pupils in selected schools of the Kitumba sub-county Kabale district, there is a decline in academic performance and psychological and physical effects. The introduction of sensitization programs for both teachers and pupils would be helpful for both parties to understand what pupil-related gender-based violence is all about. This can help perpetrators to know that what they are doing is wrong and that there are serious consequences that can be faced if the issue is brought to light. The victims can also stop living in fear and it can help them to boost their morale and in turn, accomplish academic achievements

    A Deep Learning Enabled Chest X-Ray Abnormality Detection Model for Radiology Assistance.

    Interpreting chest X-ray images is a challenging task for radiologists due to the complexity of identifying abnormalities accurately. This difficulty persists even among experienced radiologists, leading to potential errors and delays in diagnosis (Pang et al., 2021). Traditional methods of interpretation rely heavily on manual inspection, which can be time-consuming and prone to human error. Therefore, there is a critical need for innovative solutions to improve the efficiency and accuracy of chest X-ray diagnosis. The main objective of this study is to develop and implement a Deep Learning-Enabled Chest X-ray Abnormality Detection model with automated report generation. The aim is to transform the traditional diagnostic workflow by automating both the detection and reporting processes of chest abnormalities. By doing so, this research seeks to prevent the burden on radiologists and enhance patient outcomes by providing timely and accurate diagnoses. The methodology employed in this research involves several key steps. Firstly, the model undergoes an image preprocessing phase, where chest X-ray images are standardized and segmented into distinct anatomical regions, focusing on the upper, lower, and middle sections of the lungs. Simultaneously, dedicated binary-classification deep learning models are deployed to analyze each segmented region individually, effectively detecting specific abnormalities such as cardiomegaly, lung effusion, and consolidation with high accuracy. The outputs from these models are then consolidated into a cohesive 'result code,' summarizing the presence or absence of abnormalities across all segmented regions. Finally, using this result code, the model generates a comprehensive radiology report, integrating the detected abnormalities into an easily interpretable format for healthcare professionals. Through this methodology, this research is designed to improve the radiologist's workload and enhance the accuracy of chest X-ray diagnosis. By automating the detection and reporting process, the researchers anticipate a reduction in diagnostic time, improved accuracy, and increased efficiency in the overall interpretation of chest X-ray images. This research contributes to the ongoing efforts to integrate deep learning into medical imaging workflows for more effective and reliable diagnostic outcomes

    The study assessed the influence of social class and identity on the characters in the novel. The Great Gatsby follows the objectives of the study which were to analyze how characters in the novel are affected by their social standing, to explore the differences between characters from various social classes, and to discuss the narrative techniques that depict social class in the novel. The study adopted a case study research design. The findings of the study show that Gatsby's social standing profoundly affects his life and ambitions. The study concluded that characters in The Great Gatsby are profoundly influenced by their social standing, which affects their behaviors, motivations, and interactions. Gatsby’s relentless pursuit of wealth and social status exemplifies how social class aspirations drive personal ambitions and ultimately lead to personal downfall. The study recommended that teachers should provide learners with sufficient awareness of the stylistics theories as well as the applied linguistic theorie

    Assessing the Suitability of Snail-Shell Powder as a Partial Replacement of Cement in Concrete Production.

    Concrete is a mixture of aggregates and binders and among the concrete ingredients, the binder which is usually cement is a costly and environmentally unfriendly element, especially during its manufacture, and has led to resource depletion. Concrete is considered the backbone of any construction work both economically and mechanically. It is a composite material resulting from a mixture of cement, water, and aggregates (both fine and coarse). It makes any shape when cast in any formwork and forms a solid mass when cured at a suitable temperature and humidity This research titled “Assessing the suitability of snail-shell powder as partial replacement of cement in concrete” aims at the utilization of snail shells as a partial replacement of ordinary Portland cement. Snail shells obtained from the lake shores of Albert in Uganda were washed and cleaned thoroughly with clean water. The shells were ground by a hammer mill into fine pieces in size. They were oven-dried under conditions of 150oc for 2 hours and sieved through the 0.075mm sieve to obtain the required powder. Their pozzolanic composition was done and found to contain elements such as Calcium-Oxide 85.413%m/m, Iron (iii) oxide 0.406%m/m, Silicon dioxide 8.561%m/m, Potassium oxide 0.212%m/m, Aluminum oxide as 4.250%m/m, Manganese(ii) oxide 0.308%m/m, Phosphorous pent oxide 0.002%m/m, Titanium oxide 0.015%m/m. Physical properties of snail shells, fine aggregates, and coarse aggregates were also done and found to be fineness modulus of sand 2.56, water absorption of sand 2.3%, specific gravity of sand 1.23, natural moisture content of sand 1.47%, water absorption and specific gravity of coarse aggregates as 0.5% and 2.68 respectively, bulk density of coarse aggregates of 1555.56kg/m3 specific gravity and water absorption of the snail-shell sample as 2.95 and 2.02% respectively and fineness of SSP as 92.8%. Blended pastes containing OPC and SSP at different percentage replacements, 0%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5% were investigated for workability, and compressive strength of grade 20 Concrete at different days ie 7. 14 and 28 days It was found that 10% replacement of SSP gave the maximum concrete and the desired strength of 19.1MPa at 28 days while an increase in the % replacement lowered the workability of concrete

    We live in the world and Africa in particular where the Church promotes the love of God and neighbor but also harbours the poor as well. However, in the gospels, Jesus in Matthew 26:11 echoed the words of Deuteronomy 15: 11 that the “poor will always be with you” when a woman poured expensive oil on him preparing him for his death. To most people, it is believed that he meant that poverty is unstoppable, unbreakable, unavoidable, and predetermined by God yet it is created by human beings when they disobey God and neglect their neighbor. Christians ought to help each other and witness justice through sharing, clothing and providing shelter for the poor. This paper seeks to delve into the meaning of Jesus’ words and propose ethical implications for Christians. What’s the role of Christians in fighting poverty amongst themselves?     Cet article s’articule autour du problème de la mauvaise culture de la lecture chez les étudiants ougandais de FLE. Il a pour objectif de décrire et d’analyser la situation enseignante de la compétence de lecture. Il explore les causes de mauvaises pratiques de lecture et les méthodologies didactiques qui s’y rapportent. L’étude s’appuie sur le cadre théorique bronckartiste de l’interactionnisme socio-discursif (Bronckart, 1996) selon lequel des lecteurs lisent et comprennent des textes de tout genre en s’appuyant sur les pratiques socioculturelles qui les aident à résoudre des problèmes sociaux dans des écrits. L’article part de l’hypothèse selon laquelle les pratiques médiocres en lecture scolaire sont influencées par deux facteurs majeurs : D’une part, les apprenants ont des objectifs amoindris qui associent l’acte de lire exclusivement à la lecture de notes de cours ne serait-ce que pour réussir aux examens au lieu de lire pour s’amuser, pour se divertir, pour s’informer, pour jouer. D’autre part, les méthodes didactiques utilisées à l’école sont inappropriées dans la mesure où elles produisent des lecteurs « monovalents » au lieu de produire des lecteurs « constructeurs de sens » capables de pratiquer une lecture plurifonctionnell

    The Impact of High Labour Turnover on Students Performance in Private Higher Institutions of Learning in Kabale District: A Case Study of African College of Commerce and Technology (ACCT) And African International Christian Ministry (AICM).

    This research aimed to assess the impact of high labor turnover on the performance of students in private higher institutions of learning, focusing on ACCT and AICM as case studies. The study was guided by three specific objectives: identifying the causes of high labor turnover and its effect on performance, determining the effects of high labor turnover on student performance, and proposing solutions to high labor turnover at AICM and ACCT. The study employed a cross-sectional research design with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data was collected from 73 respondents, including top administrators, lecturers, and students, using questionnaires and interview guides. The collected data was checked for errors, coded, and entered into an Excel computer package for analysis, and then presented in tables as frequencies and percentages. Empirical findings revealed that the major cause of high turnover at AICM and ACCT was the lack of staff engagement and motivation, as reported by 27.4% of respondents. The major effect of high labor turnover on student performance was a reduced availability of mentors and advisors, also noted by 27.4% of respondents. The best solution to high labor turnover, according to 27.4% of respondents, was recognizing and rewarding employee contributions. The study recommended that the heads of these institutions should conduct regular salary and benefits benchmarking to ensure competitive compensation packages within the teaching industry. Adequate healthcare, retirement plans, and other non-monetary benefits should also be considered to enhance employee satisfaction and retention. Additionally, stakeholders should establish structured career growth opportunities for employees, including mentorship programs, training sessions, and workshops aimed at developing specific skills that align with both personal and institutional goals. Clear paths for advancement within the organization can motivate employees to stay and contribute to their professional growth
