    Cette recherche a pour objectif l’analyse des besoins langagiers des étudiants de français sur objectifs spécifiques (FOS) de l’Université de Kabale. Elle vise également à proposer des modules et stratégies d’enseignement adaptés à ce public. Un questionnaire semi-structuré a été administré à trente-sept étudiants de français dans deux facultés : l’Institut du Tourisme et la Faculté de génie. Des entretiens ont été menés auprès de trois enseignants de français et cinq professionnels exerçant les métiers y correspondant en ville de Kabale. Ces derniers étaient composés de trois ingénieurs et deux acteurs dans le domaine du tourisme. La littérature relative à l’analyse de besoins et au FOS a été étudiée. Pour vérifier et valider les réponses des étudiants, nous avons également tenu des discussions avec les deux groupes d’étudiants. Les résultants de la présente étude ont révélé que la majorité des étudiants étaient des débutants qui n’avaient jamais appris formellement le français même si la plupart d’entre eux avaient déjà eu des contacts informels avec des francophones. Ils avaient choisi d’apprendre le français en raison de sa pertinence pour leur carrière et l’importance de la langue française tant au niveau régional qu’international. L’étude recommande la conception de modules d’enseignement adaptés à ces groupes, passant par l’analyse approfondie des besoins d’apprentissage. Enfin, l’étude propose la pédagogie de projet comme approche pédagogique adaptée pour les cours de FOS

    Any attempt to divorce Social Administrators from mainstream societal arrangements aimed at causing societal transformation and development is a futile one. This is due to the fact that social administrators have historically been instrumental in working with governments around the world to ensure that societal needs at different levels are addressed to propel development. Societal transformation requires concerted efforts and this is exactly why governments have to embrace the role played Social Administrators in societal development. The researcher employed a purely critical qualitative approach in which desk research methodology was relied upon. As such secondary data was used and this data was obtained mainly from scholarly and published research articles surrounding Social administration, Social welfare, and other crucial published reports, with matters of the role of social administrators in societal transformation in Uganda today under scrutiny in which even the challenges incapacitating the social administrators from playing their roles well were also analyzed. Critical content analysis was employed in examining the roles of social administrators in Uganda and also the challenges that they face. Validity and reliability were guaranteed by paying much attention to critical conceptual clarity and interpretative rigor. In this paper I reviewed the genesis, the roles of Social Administrators, the challenges that hamper the activities the discipline of Social Administration drawing substantiations from the Ugandan experience. Connectedly, based on literature review, I further concluded that transforming the society is a holistic process which should be done involving all the relevant stakeholders at different levels especially in the community as this would be in position cause for ownership of all projects that could be set up to help the people improve their conditions of living. I also came up with some recommendations which included; the central government should strengthen the monitoring and evaluation department, integrating technology into mainstream societal development projects, continuously empowering local people and embracing the sustainable development strategies

    Strategies Used by Rwanda’s Simultaneous Interpreters to Render Cultural-linguistic Aspects in Taboo Expressions.

    Interpreting taboo language from and into Kinyarwanda, English, and French can lead to poor quality renderings if a combination of linguistic and cultural factors is unattended to. This study aimed to explore the strategies used by Rwandan interpreters render cultural-linguistic aspects found in taboo expressions from and into Kinyarwanda, English, and French. The paper drew on a set of ‘equivalence theories’ in the field of translation (Baker, 2011; Nida, 2000; Vinay and Darbelnet, 1995), the skopos theory (Basnett & Lefevre, 1990) as well as the bottom-up and top-down models (Hatim and Mason, 1997). Renditions by 20 Rwandan interpreters using the simultaneous mode were recorded, transcribed, coded, and analyzed. The findings revealed that most Rwandan interpreters resorted to the ‘literal strategy’ to render taboo expressions with the effect that the meaning of the source text (ST) sometimes got distorted while translating vulgar and derogatory language, insults, euphemisms, and vulgar proverbs. The findings also revealed that in an attempt to cope with interpreting taboo language, it is not enough to rely on a single strategy, that is to say, interpreters should use a combination of strategies in order to improve the quality of their renditions

    This research examines the impact of tax administration, with a focus on the self assessment system (SAS), on revenue collection in Uganda. Utilizing data collected from 350 commercial enterprises through questionnaires, the study employs AMOS PLS-SEM for data analysis. The findings reveal that the SAS significantly enhances revenue collection by empowering taxpayers to self-report and calculate their tax liabilities, contingent upon adequate tax knowledge and awareness. The study also identifies government spending and tax collection methods as positive moderators in the relationship between SAS and revenue collection, highlighting the importance of government efficiency and transparency in fostering tax compliance. Despite the positive impact of compliance audits on revenue performance, the effectiveness of tax audits varies across different contexts, necessitating tailored approaches. The research concludes that a comprehensive strategy integrating tax education, transparent government spending, and strategic compliance audits is essential for optimizing revenue collection and supporting sustainable economic development in Uganda. Future research should explore the long-term effects of these interventions and consider the role of digitalization and socio-cultural factors in shaping tax compliance behavior

    Plasmodium falciparum genetic diversity and multiplicity of infection based on msp‑1, msp‑2, glurp and microsatellite genetic markers in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

    Background In sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Plasmodium falciparum causes most of the malaria cases. Despite crucial roles in disease severity and drug resistance, comprehensive data on Plasmodium falciparum genetic diversity and multiplicity of infection (MOI) are sparse in SSA. This study summarizes available information on genetic diversity and MOI, focusing on key markers (msp-1, msp-2, glurp, and microsatellites). The systematic review aimed to evaluate their influence on malaria transmission dynamics and offer insights for enhancing malaria control measures in SSA. Methods: The review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Two reviewers conducted article screening, assessed the risk of bias (RoB), and performed data abstraction. Meta-analysis was performed using the random-effects model in STATA version 17. Results: The review included 52 articles: 39 cross-sectional studies and 13 Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT)/cohort studies, involving 11,640 genotyped parasite isolates from 23 SSA countries. The overall pooled mean expected heterozygosity was 0.65 (95% CI: 0.51–0.78). Regionally, values varied: East (0.58), Central (0.84), Southern (0.74), and West Africa (0.69). Overall pooled allele frequencies of MSP-1 alleles K1, MAD20, and RO33 were 61%, 44%, and 40%, respectively, while msp-2 I/C 3D7 and FC27 alleles were 61% and 55%. Central Africa reported higher frequencies (K1: 74%,MAD20: 51%, RO33: 48%) than East Africa (K1: 46%, MAD20: 42%, RO33: 31%). For MSP-2, East Africa had 60% and 55% for I/C 3D7 and FC27 alleles, while West Africa had 62% and 50%, respectively. The pooled allele frequency for glurpwas 66%. The overall pooled mean MOI was 2.09 (95% CI: 1.88–2.30), with regional variations: East (2.05), Central (2.37), Southern (2.16), and West Africa (1.96). The overall prevalence of polyclonal Plasmodium falciparum infections was 63% (95% CI: 56–70), with regional prevalences as follows: East (62%), West (61%), Central (65%), and South Africa (71%). Conclusion: The study shows substantial regional variation in Plasmodium falciparum parasite genetic diversity and MOI in SSA. These findings suggest a need for malaria control strategies and surveillance efforts considering regional-specific factors underlying Plasmodium falciparum infection

    Design and Simulation of a Pedal Operated Hacksaw Machine.

    This study presented the design and simulation of a pedal-operated hacksaw, aimed at providing an efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective alternative to conventional motorized cutting tools. The pedal-powered system converts human mechanical energy into the necessary reciprocating motion for cutting materials such as metal, wood, and plastic. The design comprises a flywheel mechanism connected to a pedal, which stores kinetic energy and provides a smooth, continuous cutting action. This system is particularly suitable for small-scale workshops or areas without access to electricity, offering an energy-efficient and portable solution. Simulation of the pedal-operated hacksaw is conducted using CAD software, evaluating parameters such as force transmission, cutting speed, and efficiency. The results show that the pedal-operated hacksaw can achieve satisfactory cutting performance with minimal user effort, making it a viable tool for sustainable and low-energy applications

    Analysis onThe Effect of Dap and NPK Fertilizers Applications on Broccoli Yield.

    The study investigated the effects of DAP (Diammonium phosphate) and NPK (Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium) fertilizers on broccoli yield, aiming to provide insights into optimal fertilizer management strategies for enhancing crop yield. The study was based on three objectives: to assess the growth rate parameters of broccoli grown with DAP and NPK fertilizers, to determine the effects of DAP and NPK fertilizers on broccoli yield, and to propose recommendations for assessing the comparative effectiveness of DAP and NPK fertilizers in optimizing broccoli yield. Broccoli, a nutrient-demanding vegetable crop, was subjected to field trials where varying applications of DAP and NPK fertilizers were compared. The research measured key yield parameters including height, head size, and nutrient composition to evaluate the effect of each fertilizer type on overall crop yield and quality. Results indicated that both DAP and NPK fertilizers significantly influenced broccoli yield parameters. Specifically, plots treated with NPK showed enhanced height and larger head sizes of 3.5 kg compared to those treated with DAP with 2.5 kg or control groups with 1.7 kg. Findings revealed variations in nutrient uptake efficiency between the fertilizer types, with NPK-treated broccoli exhibiting a higher effect on yield production, the implications of fertilizer use were also assessed, emphasizing the need for balanced nutrient management to minimize environmental impact while maximizing agricultural productivity. The study recommended investigating how varying ratios or concentrations of these nutrients influence not only growth parameters like height and leaf count but also yield metrics such as head weight, investigating the efficiency of nutrient uptake by broccoli plants under different fertilizer treatments

    Assessing the Effects of Tourism Activities on the Preservation of Cultural Heritage Among Communities of Rubanda DistrictUganda.

    The study was about the impact of tourism on the preservation of cultural heritage in Rubanda District has been a subject of concern. The study was guided by objectives like to identify the different activities of tourism in the community of Rubanda district, to find out the preservation of cultural heritage among communities in Rubanda district, and to find out the relationship between tourism activities and preservation of cultural heritage in Rubanda district. The study will use a descriptive research design because it aims to obtain information to systematically describe a phenomenon, situation, or population. The study used 168 respondents from 300 as a target population. The study used data collection methods like questionnaire and interview guide due to the nature of respondents under the study. The found out that Rubanda District is near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is famous for gorilla trekking. Tourists treks through the dense forest to observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, some respondents also showed the district's forests and wetlands are home to a diverse array of bird species, making it an excellent destination for bird watching enthusiasts. From the findings, some respondents mentioned that traditional music and dance are integral to cultural heritage in Rubanda. Incorporating cultural studies into school curricula to teach younger generations about their heritage, some respondents also showed that storytelling remains a vital method of preserving history and culture, some respondents agreed that the crafting of items like baskets, mats, and pottery is common in Rubanda. Some respondents also showed that tourism brings economic benefits to local communities, providing an incentive to preserve cultural heritage, some respondents also showed that tourism creates employment opportunities for local residents, particularly in guiding. The study concludes that tourism and cultural heritage preservation in Rubanda District are deeply interconnected, creating a sustainable model that benefits the community economically while ensuring that the rich cultural traditions and natural beauty of the region are preserved for future generations. Through continuing to support and develop both sectors, Rubanda District can maintain its unique identity and attract more visitors, fostering a vibrant and resilient community. The study recommends that there is need to involve local communities in the planning and management of tourism activities to ensure their interests and cultural values are respected and promoted. The government and NGOs needs to provide training and support to local communities on managing tourism and preserving cultural heritage. This can include skills in guiding, hospitality, and cultural documentation

    Design of a Banana Fiber-Extracting Machine.

    Banana fiber offers a superior alternative to synthetic and natural fibers, boasting eco-friendliness, chemical-free, non-toxic, and odorless properties. However, traditional extraction methods can be labor-intensive and yield variable results. This study seeks to overcome these limitations by developing an electric-powered banana fiber extraction machine. The approach involves material selection, design, fabrication, and assembly of machine components. The developed machine aims to reduce processing time and enhance product quality through improved blade design, optimized roller spacing, and sufficient motor torque. These modifications enable efficient fiber separation, minimize damage, and produce high-quality fibers. The expected outcome is a significant reduction in plantain fiber production time
