Municipalities, Let the People Have Their Chickens and Eat Them, Too
In the pre-industrial era, before the advent of long-distance transportation or food preservation, human survival necessitated proximity to where food was grown or husbanded. Cities located near agriculturally productive lands and domesticated livestock animals were commonplace within cities. But by the 1920s, the technological innovations of the Second Industrial Revolution left urban areas free of farm animals and farm-related activities. Local governments exercised their powers to codify the separation of residential and agricultural uses within cities and reinforce the idea that food production was not proper in community neighborhoods. Yet, a century later, local governments use those same powers to bring agriculture back to cities.
Today, urban dwellers are not only growing fruits and vegetables, but also keeping small livestock for eggs, milk, honey, and, increasingly, meat. In particular, the popularity of keeping backyard chickens has grown over the past two decades. Due to historical bans and restrictions on urban agriculture, food cultivation and production have been mostly unregulated, thereby creating conflicts and uncertainties. This Note contends that, as municipalities in the United States address the regulatory vacuum to regulate urban agriculture, local governments should also pass ordinances that permit chicken-keepers to slaughter their backyard chickens on-site at their private, residential property. Despite the potential offenses that backyard slaughter may cause, the practice could have numerous benefits, including strengthening the local food system, respecting private property rights, and regulating a growing urban practice

Through a comprehensive analysis of existing literature, case studies, and survey data, this research explores the benefits and risks associated with relying on social media for financial guidance. While social media provides unprecedented access to financial knowledge, empowering young investors with real-time market insights and investment strategies, it also presents challenges such as misinformation, speculative trading behaviors, and the rise of unregulated finfluencers. This research contributes to the growing discourse on the intersection of social media and financial markets, underscoring the need for enhanced financial literacy education, regulatory interventions, and critical engagement with digital financial content

Genotypic Variation and Wilting Speed Affect Soybean (Glycine max) Germination and Growth
Soybean (Glycine max) is one of the most important agricultural crops in the world due to its value as a major source of protein and oilseed production. Soybean is extremely sensitive to drought and experiences severe reductions in yield when there is a reduction in water availability. Canopy wilting speed is a trait linked with water use efficiency (WUE) in soybeans. Slower wilting canopies indicate greater WUE, while faster wilting canopies indicate lower WUE. Previous studies have explored the variation of plant physiological traits across wilting speeds on a smaller scale, but ultimately, a more extensive assessment is needed. The aim of this study was to examine how plant growth traits vary across 30 soybean genotypes that vary in wilting speeds across two different stages in soybean development. There was variation in physiological traits across soybean genotypes (P \u3c 0.0001). Fast-wilting plants tended to germinate faster than slow-wilting plants early on, but ultimately, there was no difference in total germination (P = 0.9612). In the early-vegetative stage of soybean plants, slow-wilting plants were taller (P = 0.0082) and had a greater chlorophyll content compared to fast-wilting plants (P \u3c 0.0001). Physiological differences between the wilting speeds were clearer in early developmental stages compared to mid-stage plants. Across all plant traits examined, there were differences among all soybean genotypes. While there are differences in physiological traits between wilting speeds, the extreme variation across soybean genotypes can overshadow these interactions, highlighting the importance of continued screening across more genotypes

The purpose of this article is to explain how acts of violence influenced the media’s description of the Irish Republican Army and Chechen insurgencies and how the label of ‘terrorist’ affected the perception of the Anglo-Irish and Russo-Chechen conflicts. Quantitative data from the New York Times and International Newsstream databases are used to examine the change in word frequency to describe the IRA and Chechen fighters across a twelve-year span and four-month span before and after certain international events
