Legal Dynamics in EU-Ukraine Relations: Strengthened Support on the Journey from the Eastern Partnership Country to the EU Candidate Country in the Context of Russian Invasion

    Get PDF
The article examines the changing relations between Ukraine and the European Union in light of the increased EU backing of Ukraine after the Russian invasion. It argues that Ukraine’s steadfast pro-EU stance has intensified in response to many challenges caused by Russian actions in that country, resulting in a noteworthy increase in legal backing from the EU. The qualitative research method is used to explore the EU-Ukraine relationship through historical context, official documents, and expert analysis. It starts by setting the historical background of Ukraine’s ties with the EU, highlighting the key documents and events, and tracking the advancement of Ukraine’s pro-European stance. The main emphasis is on how the Russian actions in Ukraine, starting with the annexation of Crimea, backing of separatists in eastern Ukraine, and finally, the invasion, changed relations between the EU and Ukraine. This entails estimating how Ukraine’s adherence to EU values and legal standards has changed in response to Russia’s gradually intensifying actions in Ukraine. Also, it involves an analysis of varied aspects of the EU’s assistance mechanisms and tools used by the EU to strengthen its backing for Ukraine, emphasising the reciprocal nature of their legal dynamics. The article concludes by examining Ukraine’s path towards EU membership and the criteria and legal requirements that Ukraine has to meet. This provides insights into the legal dynamics shaping EU-Ukraine relations in the context of intense external pressures

Raskršća ASEAN-a: privredni razvoj u uslovima rivalstva između SAD-a i Kine

    No full text

The advantages of sentiment analysis driven by artificial intelligence (AI)

    Get PDF
Sentiment analysis is the process of determining the opinion, judgment, or emotion expressed in natural language. This analysis is an effective method for evaluating written or spoken language to identify whether it is positive, negative, or neutral, and to what extent. These days, electronic word-of-mouth, or eWOM, is a common way for customers to publicly share their thoughts about products and services on websites (that provide reviews), social media, and forums. Negative customer sentiment toward a brand or company in the digital sphere can generally have detrimental effects on business. Therefore, in order to solve issues and please customers, it's critical for companies to take specific actions that align with the insights gleaned from sentiment analysis. The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly improved sentiment analysis and it is increasingly becoming an integral part of digital marketing, which can be used to gather information about consumer sentiment towards a brand in a digital environment, on the basis of which strategies can be optimized. However, because artificial intelligence is still a relatively new technology, it struggles to understand texts that contain emojis, photos, hashtags, or other common slang, irony or sarcastic statements used by users in digital environment. Because of these ongoing challenges, AI is yet unable to provide results from sentiment analysis that are accurate enough. However, it won't be long until these techniques improve even further and, as a result, become a crucial part of digital marketing strategies

Fear of missing out (FOMO) as an effect influencing consumer purchase decisions

    Get PDF
The feeling that one is either unaware of, or will miss out on information, opportunities, experiences, or events that could improve one's life is known as fear of missing out (FOMO). Our era is not new to the notion that we might be missing out on something enjoyable, but since social media became popular, FOMO has been more widely recognized and researched. The impacts of FOMO may be more severe in adolescents and young adults. Friends and other people's social media posts might cause people to compare themselves to others and develop a strong dread of losing out on what their peers are up to. This phenomenon has the potential to exacerbate peer pressure on youth, who would otherwise not engage in harmful behavior. Young people might act in this way without thinking about the long-term effects. FOMO marketing leverages psychology to appeal to consumers' emotional triggers and reactions, driving them to take immediate action in order to grab a chance. This kind of marketing is based on psychological concepts such as emotional triggers and social comparison. The fear of falling behind or being left out is exploited by this type of marketing. Increased customer engagement, improved brand advocacy and loyalty, and better sales and conversion stand out as the biggest business benefits that inducing these feelings in consumers can provide. The employment of such practices on customers, however, raises ethical and dishonesty concerns, because the companies themselves may be seen as violent and unreliable, which might be a major reputational risk

China in Latin America: Economic Results and Prospects of the Belt and Road Initiative

    Get PDF
The paper explores the relations between the People’s Republic of China and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) within the framework of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), focusing on the economic results achieved in this region from 2017 to 2023. The countries within the LAC region officially became involved in the BRI in 2017, with Panama leading the way by signing a Memorandum of Understanding the same year. By the end of 2023, 21 Latin American and Caribbean countries had become part of this global initiative. Brazil, the largest economy of the LAC region, is not among them despite its strong political and economic ties with China. The author conducts an analysis of the outcomes of the BRI in the region between 2017 and 2023. There is a consensus among scholars that the relationship between China and the LAC countries in the 21st century emphasises economic cooperation rooted in the strong political and diplomatic collaboration developed in the latter half of the 20th century. However, researchers hold differing viewpoints on the benefits the LAC countries receive from deepening cooperation with China. Therefore, another goal of this paper is to contribute to a wider debate in the academic literature concerning the nature and effects of the Chinese presence in the LAC region by delving into the mentioned relations within the BRI. The findings of the paper indicate that the inclusion of LAC countries into the BRI represents a further step in the deepening of economic relations between China and the LAC region in the 21st century. The significance of the BRI in the LAC region is evident through the increasing influx of Chinese investments and the execution of projects in energy, transportation, and metals sectors, with a notable trend towards investment in ‘new infrastructure’, particularly in telecommunications and renewable energy. However, this development also raises concerns and challenges, including the potential risk of over- indebtedness for local economies, environmental protection issues during the execution of various projects, and the absence of a cohesive regional strategy for engagement with China

EU-China Renewable Energy Cooperation: Barriers and Prospects

    Get PDF
Given the imperative of energy transition targets across the nations, academic interest in renewable energy as a determinant of great powers’ relations, among other targets, has begun to surge. With a shared commitment to combating climate change, the European Union (EU) and the People’s Republic of China have recognised the significance of renewable energy cooperation as a cornerstone of sustainable development in the future. A significant alignment of their energy- and climate-related policies and dedication to similar energy transition targets opened the room for enhancing cooperation between the two actors in the renewable energy domain. Increased renewable energy investments, promotion of renewable energy development, and general willingness to engage in dialogue are seen as drivers of mutual recognition. However, some barriers stemming from different sectoral policies, such as regulatory frameworks, market access philosophies, or recent geopolitical tensions, make this relationship very complex. Since renewable energy cooperation between the EU and China has immense potential amidst global imperatives for sustainable development, both key barriers and prospects of this relationship have to be addressed. This research aims to provide significant insights into the multifaceted nature of EU-China renewable energy cooperation via three dimensions: the normative, the economic, and the (geo)political. Methodological tools used for the analysis refer to a literature review, qualitative content analysis of the EU’s and China’s energy- and climate-related policies, and secondary data analysis. The analysis led to the conclusion that by overcoming (geo)political and economic divergencies, both the EU and China stand to benefit from a more robust partnership in renewable energy, thus contributing significantly to the sustainable future as the common goal

The Evolving Paradigms of Military Interventions and China: Lessons from Global Centre-Periphery Relations

    Get PDF
Military interventionism, a unilateral and coercive practice in international politics, is widely discussed in scholarly literature. However, key aspects, such as a consolidated definition of military intervention and the complex geographical features involved, remain insufficiently conceptualised. Evidence, including the economic rise of non-Western powers, the politico- military ascendance of Russia and China, and the growing prevalence of asymmetric threats, signals a shift from a unipolar to a multipolar global system. This article examines the extent to which great powers are inclined to intervene in neighbouring regions compared to peripheral areas within different structural contexts of the international system and offers potentially relevant factors to be considered while analysing similar cases that might occur, notwithstanding who is the intervening actor. This research briefly introduces justifications for three past interventions—in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, and Iraq—to identify the role of geographic positioning in justifying interventionism. This study explores centre- periphery dynamics and factors influencing military interventions. It offers insights into China’s foreign policy behaviour as it manoeuvres its role as a “hesitant hegemon” in the current international system

The Potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Improve Electronic Word-of-Mouth's (eWOM) Efficacy

    Get PDF
Internet-mediated online communication, particularly with regard to a product, brand, or organization, is known as electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). Analyz- ing this open exchange of opinions and information about a company or product among consumers can be extremely useful for businesses. Opinion mining, (sentiment analysis), is a popular subdomain in Natural language processing (NLP) which allows for trans- forming qualitative data into quantitative information. The sentiment analysis of eWOM has greatly improved with the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI). Nowadays, com- puter algorithms can automatically classify the sentiment polarity of digital communica- tion after extracting plain text. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to fundamen- tally alter how companies assess and use consumer feedback to improve their products and services. In this paper, the authors, by analysing the attitudes of 450 respondents, tried to bring this current topic closer to experts in the field of digital marketing, in order to point out to them all the benefits that the sentiment analysis of consumers with the help of artificial intelligence algorithms can provide. The aim of this study is to indicate that if marketing experts use sentiment analysis supported by artificial intelligence (AI), they will be able to gain deeper insights on their customers and adjust their business strategies accordingly

Beyond the Geopolitical Chessboard: New Ways of Theorizing the International Relations of Central Asia

    Get PDF
For a long time, Central Asia has been seen as a region divided by conflict, insecurity, and competition, lacking comprehensive cooperation between its countries. Writings on the region often focused on the influence of external powers, institutions, and norms they created. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the independence of the Central Asian republics, discursive framing of the region has repeatedly relied on the notion of the Great Game/New Great Game, a competition between major powers for regional influence. This portrayed Central Asian nations as passive participants in international relations, objects of international relations, pawns on a geopolitical chessboard. Now, with the intraregional process of power transition and the internally initiated process of strengthening regional integration through consultative meetings of the heads of state of the Central Asian republics, there have also been changes in the theorizing of regional international relations. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to demonstrate the main emerging ways of re- theorizing Central Asia in this field. To this end, the article will present the primary approaches for reconceptualizing the region, with a particular emphasis on several theoretical frameworks and concepts. These include Buranelli's perspective on Central Asia as an "international society", Dadabaev's advocacy for the "decolonization of Central Asian international relations," Fazendeiro's concept of “power as togetherness”, and Dzhuraev's "3-i's model.
