The potential benefits of Internet of Things (IoT) to academic library service delivery have been identified as enormous. Through sensing devices such as radio frequency identification (RFID) devices, infrared sensors, global positioning systems, laser scanners and various other devices, objects are enabled to “think”, “feel” and “talk” thereby facilitating interconnection of all objects and humans, objects and objects leading to ease of communication, monitoring and control. It is however not certain if academic librarians in Nigeria would be able to explore these benefits due to their level of skills in relation to information and communication technology and availability of enabling infrastructure that could facilitate maximum use of new and emerging technologies that are consequential to Internet of Things. The broad objective of the paper was to ascertain the level of awareness of IoT among librarians as well as perceived benefits it holds for enhanced library service delivery in academic libraries in Nigeria. Future pathways for librarians in Nigeria were also discussed

x, 88 pages, illustrations, hard back, illustrationsOgun State South-west Nigeria has been need of constant power supply supported by introducing alternative means of producing electrical energy. The result of such efforts led to industrialization of Ogun State especially its capital, Abeokuta, in fulfillment of the Five Cardinal Programmes of "Mission to Rebuild" Ogun State and in compliance with the Federal Government's approval to generate power for all tiers of the government. This architectural thesis came about as an outshoot of such project. The research approach was via interview and site visitation with the Saje dumpsite coordinator and secondary data collection on waste-to-energy technologies in and outside Nigeria. The Ministry of Environment Abeokuta, Ogun state was scouted afetr due to Saje dumpsite being the only and largest dumpsite in Abeokuta. Nonetheless, documented information about the dumpsite could be counted as little to none despite it was previously a quarry site or motive could be based on the sensitivity of the data must not research the eyes and ears of the public. An interview with the coordinator who had supervised Saje dumpsite for 12 years (under the assistance and permission of the Ministry of Environment Abeokuta) was viewed as the quick fix to such this case as this case as the most the reseonable and weighted source of knowledge

xi, 70 pages, illustartions, hard backDisaster relief shelters play a vital role in Large-scale disaster and are an important part of disaster response and recovery. Shelters are used to provide private and secure place for people to live who have left or lost their usual accommodations as a result of some form of disaster. The principal aim of this research work is to evaluate post-disaster relief camp design and management practices in selected areas in Lagos. It also examines the extent to which environmental, economic, technical, and socio-cultural criteria affect the provision and performance of DR shelters, and how such factors might be taken into account in the decision-making and design processes of such shelters. To achieve this, well-structured questionnaires were sent out to users and occupants of commercial buildings in Ikeja, Lagos State. Disaster relief shelters not only provide immediate and short-term shelter for the victim of a disaster, but they also help them to recover from the trauma of disaster as well as provide a base to start the process of rehabilitation. A review of the literature, case studies, guidance, and reports relating to the design of DR shelters indicates that their provision and performance are not currently as effective as they could be. A lack of adequate consideration with regard to climate conditions, locally available materials and skills, cultural and social issues, delays, cost constraints, and poor location selection for DR shelters have each been identified as source of poor performance contributing to an unacceptable standard of living. Moreover, there seems to be a lack of sufficient consideration with regard to the design of Disaster Relief camps for future storage and re-use

    No full text
A review of literature revealed that doctoral students in Nigeria library schools do not complete their studies at the university recommended time frame. This study therefore examined demographic factors as determinants of doctoral degree completion in Nigeria library schools. The objectives were to find out the average time-to-completion of doctoral degree in Nigeria library schools; ascertain the importance of demographic factors such as gender, age, job designation, work status and marital status to time to completion of doctoral studies in Nigeria library schools; find out if mode of study affects time-to-completion of doctoral studies in Nigeria library schools. The study adopted descriptive research of the survey type. From 26 library schools in Nigeria, 11 were purposively selected. The population comprised 235 doctoral degree holders. Total enumeration of the 235 doctoral degree holders was used. A self-constructed questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data and out of the 235 copies administered, only 183, representing 77.9% were returned and found usable for this study. The only hypothesis in the study was tested using Spearman Rank Order Correlation. This was tested at 0.05 level of significance. Results showed a relationship between demographic factors and time-to-completion, while it takes an average of 5.7 years to complete doctoral degree in Nigeria library schools irrespective of mode of study
