Interactive sonification is a type of sonification that provides auditory feedback on a set of information resulting from an interaction. This set of information represents data obtained from various types of devices or sensors, for example, angles of movement of body parts using a depth camera. Auditory feedback is known as sound interaction and this is done by associating sound characteristics (e.g., pitch, timbre) with sensed data. Sound interactions can support the practice of physical activities by providing a guide to movements. Also, by manipulating the sound characteristics that make up this interaction, it is possible to change body perception during the practice of physical activities. In particular, it is important to have a positive body perception during the practice of yoga as this helps to have a more harmonious relationship between body and mind, and thereby adapt physical practices to individual needs. This thesis presents the design of Zens, a sonified interface which through sound interactions improves the experience of a yoga practice. On the other hand, by manipulating frequency variation it seeks to change the body perception and flexibility of yogis. To evaluate the effectiveness of Zens in the terms mentioned above, an evaluation was conducted where 12 beginner yogis participated. All the yogis performed a yoga session, half of them using Zens and the other half in a traditional way following the sound of the breath. The results indicate that Zens generates a better experience of yoga practice, in particular providing a feeling of accomplishment and interest to yogis. In addition, the results obtained show that there is no change in the perception of flexibility and body perception by varying the frequency of sound structures

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have shown good performance on image classification. The last layers of the architecture of the CNN models allow them to create their filters with more complex patterns in the input, such as textures, shapes, or variations of features processed in previous layers. Image retrieval systems aim to navigate collections with queries. Due to the number of attributes and objects that make up an image, it is challenging to extract image features manually. These systems extract from pre-trained CNN models a representative vector of each image in the collection. This vector is usually extracted from the penultimate layer and is known as the deep features. Deep features vectors have a high dimension. In ResNet, the Deep features vector extracted has 2,048 dimensions. In addition, the values of the vector are real numbers. This causes systems to consume more main memory, since data is usually indexed in indexes that run in the main memory. Also, more computation cycles are required to perform calculations. In this thesis work, we propose the development of an image binary embedding that improves the deep features image representation. Hadamard codes were integrated into the ResNet architecture to obtain a binary vector in Hadamard encoding. Its efficiency is compared with the Deep features representation with experiments in retrieval tasks using Places365 and ImageNet datasets. In addition, the Half Space Proximal graph is proposed to retrieve images, which is compared with the k nearest neighbor algorithm by calculating the purity. The results obtained show that the Hadamard representation is, on average, better than the deep features representation in retrieval tasks using the HSP graph. Also, it shows that the memory footprint is reduced for computing the distance between vectors, and fewer computation cycles are needed. Finally, a prototype of an image retrieval was implemented, including different tools to make queries

La viabilidad celular de macrófagos expuestos a ZnO-NPs de forma aguda y subcrónica evidenció alteraciones en los niveles de ROS, respuesta hormética, así ...ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) have received special attention in recent years in the area of nanocosmetics, and their applications in the area of nanomedicine continue to be explored; However, various evidences indicate that constant exposure of some organisms to ZnO-NPs can cause immunotoxicity. On the other hand, CuO nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) have been used in the area of microelectronics, and in different biological models it has been observed that exposure to these nanoparticles can cause genotoxicity. Multiple investigations have shown that some nanomaterials have immunomodulatory properties that can lead to dysfunction of the immune system, causing inflammation. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of subchronic exposure of ZnO-NPs and CuO-NPs to subtoxic concentrations in the macrophage cell line RAW264.7, cells with phagocytic capacity that initially interact with nanomaterials that enter the organism and have functions essential for the proper functioning of the immune system. To cover the objective, the characterization of the ZnO-NPs and CuO-NPs, and the maintenance of the culture of the RAW264.7 macrophage cell line were carried out. Subsequently, the effects of acute and subchronic exposure to subtoxic concentrations of ZnO-NPs and CuO-NPs on cell proliferation was studied utilizing a colorimetric assay, on macrophages morphology by light microscopy, the concentration of species of highly reactive oxygen (ROS) through fluorimetry and on nitrites concentration through the Griess test were evaluated. The effect on the size and relative complexity of macrophages exposed subchronically to subtoxic concentrations of ZnO-NPs was also evaluated by flow cytometry; while changes in the mitochondrial membrane potential and the levels of Zn2+ ions were visualized through confocal laser microscopy, and the relative expression of specific genes was evaluated by qPCR. The characterization of ZnO-NPs and CuO-NPs suggests an average size higher than that reported by the supplier, as well as high aggregation. Subchronic exposure to CuO-NPs causes cytotoxicity at low concentrations (2-8 μg/mL), evidencing its immunotoxic potential. The cellular viability of macrophages exposed to ZnO-NPs acutely and subchronically showed alterations in ROS levels, hormetic response, as well as the formation of multinucleated giant cells in a manner dependent on the physicochemical properties, the concentration of ZnO-NPs, and time. of exposition. Point cloud registration is a central problem in computing, with applications from awide range of biometric identifiers to astronautics and medicine. RANSAC is essentially the only existing algorithm to match a point cloud to a specific model. This work proposes different modifications to the RANSAC algorithm, based on the following hypothesis: Inlier points model has higher relative density than the usually more dispersed outliers. The above work hypothesis translates to three algorithmic proposals described herein. We present these new versions of RANSAC as ’Density Driven RANSAC’ or DD-RANSAC. We compared three algorithms derived from this thesis with the base RANSAC algorithm for efficiency and performance, testing three different models, each with different dimensionality. From the results of the experiments, we conclude our heuristic, i.e., processing first areas with the highest density, is effective in terms of efficiency and performance if the points have spatial coherence

Mesophotic ecosystems are unique communities that may provide refuges for a diverse range of shallow benthic macroinvertebrates. On the other hand, mesophotic ecosystems may harbor depth-exclusive species, with different ecological roles or traits compared to shallow species, and therefore would not serve as a shallow species refuge. Inconsistencies exist regarding the definition of mesophotic depth, and, combined with the overall lack of quantitative studies on the community composition of marine ecosystems, especially in deeper waters, have led to challenges for testing the deep reef refugia hypothesis (DRRH). In this study, we define mesophotic depth at 10-1% of surface light intensity. We characterized structural and functional composition of both shallow and mesophotic reefs in Bahías de Huatulco, Oaxaca, to compare strata and to determine whether mesophotic ecosystems could act as refuges for shallow benthic macroinvertebrates. On average, the mesophotic zone occurred between 16.2 and 26.2 m depth in our study site, ranging from 10.2 m to 40 m. Although we found species composition differences between strata, no significant differences were found in structural or functional biodiversity indices. Over 50% of shallow species and functional entities were found at mesophotic depths, suggesting that mesophotic ecosystems may likely serve as refuges for shallow benthic macroinvertebrates. The potential refuge zone ranged between 14.7 and 24.6 m deep, with the highest proportion of shared species. Given the increasing impacts of climate change in these shallow water ecosystems, and the large interannual variability at our study site, shallow benthic macroinvertebrates may be particularly at risk due to their reduced mobility, yet may be spared local extinction under rising stressor exposure by these mesophotic refuges. At this site, and using our irradiance definition of mesophotic depths, our data support the DRRH

Computer Vision, nowadays, is one of the more difficult problems. The are several models presented among them, the one presented by Itti y Koch en 1998 stands out. A version of it, called FOA, was presented by Leon Dozal in 2014. This model represents an Artificial Dorsal Stream’s interpretation which belongs to a larger model called Artificial Visual Cortex presented by Eddie and Olague in 2014.Both models were evolved by a paradigm called Brain Programming which is a successful concept based on the functioning of the brain which synthesizes an artificial model of the natural vision mechanism that is called Artificial Visual Cortex. It uses four dimensions: color, shape, intensity, and orientation. This research work proposes the evolution of the Artificial Dorsal Stream using a new approach in solving problems of salient object detection This approach makes use of the benefits of the two main aspects of this area: fixation prediction and the detection of salient objects. In this thesis, it was decided to use the fusion of Graph-based Visual Saliency (GBVS) and Multiscale Combinatorial Grouping (MCG) algorithms due to its prominence in several studies and benchmarks where promising results were shown

Teutophageous cetaceans are those who base their diet on squid, which they generally hunt in deep waters thanks to several morphological, physiological, and behavioral adaptations. Given that many species of this type of prey present seasonal rep¬roductive patterns of approaching shallower warmer waters during summer, we studied if this was consistent with the ocean-coast movements of teutophageous cetaceans in the northeast Pacific off Mexico. We used minimum distances to the coast of historical systematic sightings made from boats and airplanes (1993 to 2018, n=1,164), as well as the frequency of non-systematic stranding records (2012 to 2019, n=38). The sightings closest to the coast occurred mainly from mid-April to mid-June. The seasonality of strandings confirmed this pattern, with higher frequency from early June to mid-September, and short time lags between groups of teutophageous according to their size: small (9m). In the Gulf of California, the sightings occurred mainly in the central region, close to the peninsular coast in winter and to the continental coast in summer. The time lags among the three groups of teutophageous suggest a differential preference for squid sizes. The models suggest a bimodal seasonality, with a peak form May to July and a higher one from November to December given that the probability of finding prey would increase during the early winter season

In broadband network telecommunications, while information is transmitted mainly through optical fibers, the switching process of network packets takes place in the electronic domain. This requires an optical-electronic conversion which limits the switching speed of the packets, creating a bottleneck in addition to higher energy consumption. As a solution to this problem, various photonic cross-connect switches (PXC) have been proposed, which carry out its switching process in the optical domain. In this thesis, an all-optical PXC was built, by using a multi-quantum well semiconductor optical amplifier (MQWSOA). This switch allows selecting the output port of a data signal, by modifying its polarization state via a high-power control signal, through the self-induced quantum-confined Stark effect (SIQCSE). The built PXC doesn’t require an electrical power supply, is transparent to the modulation format, uses a single MQWSOA, its switching speed is a few picoseconds and it is compatible with integrated optics. To implement the PXC, two mathematical models were developed, one to calculate the spectral position of the excitonic absorption lines of the MQWSOA, which are shifted by the SIQCSE, and the other was used to estimate the response time of the switch. Furthermore, the parameters that allow the optical operation of the PXC were experimentally determined. Namely, the wavelengths and polarization states of both data and control signals, the optical power of the control signal required to generate the necessary change in the polarization state of the data signal, and the operating conditions that produce the fastest response of the PXC. Using a 10 Gb/s pseudo-random data signal and a control signal with an average power of 17 dBm, the operation of the PXC with a switching speed of 55.6 ps was experimentally demonstrated. Furthermore, using eye diagrams and the error bit-rate, it was determined that the implemented PXC allows for an error-free operation with a maximum power penalty of 6 dB

Formation of ruptures in magmatic chambers due to the presence of angularities and their importance in controlling the volume of ejected magma

En ...Magmatic chambers are a very important part of the complex magmatic system that generates the existing volcanic diversity. Volcanic eruptions are generally associated with ruptures of these chambers. Theoretical computational models allow us to model scenarios and understand behaviors that are outside of any direct measurements. The existence of angularities can be fundamental in the evolution of igneous intrusions. A three-dimensional model of ellipsoidal magmatic chambers was made that includes angularities on their surface. The computational model is based on the equations of Koide and Bhattacharji (1975) to obtain the total stress tensor around magma-filled cavities. This model allowed us to analyze the influence that angularities exert on the generation of fractures and dikes. The Biaxial and Heim lithostatic models were used to obtain rupture pressures of the chambers under different lateral stress conditions. From these lithostatic models it was possible to define a range of rupture pressure for the modeled chambers. It was found that there are specific regions on the chambers in which tensile stresses are generated. In prolate chambers they are the cusps and in oblate chambers the region of the edges furthest from the center. These areas coincide in both cases with directions further away and parallel to the major axis of the ellipsoids. In addition, it was found that the angularities decrease the minimum rupture pressure of some magmatic chambers. Depending on their position, they can generate breaks or go unnoticed. The importance of the angularities depends on their position and shape. If the areas of tensile stress generation of the main body coincide with the angularities, a rupture is highly feasible. oblate shapes with high axis ratios can favor the generation of intrusions even in areas in the main body that are unfavorable for rupture. In some cases the rupture around the chamber can cause an increase in size or a change in the shape of the angularities. In events in which the internal pressure increases rapidly, magmatic chambers with prolate angularities were shown to generate a greater volume of affectation than chambers with oblate angularities. It was found that chambers with the same volume of magma can generate very different volumes of affectation. In some cases these can be several tens of km ^ 3. The results suggest that angularities are a fundamental part of the evolution of magmatic systems, so their presence should be conside

The excessive use of petrochemical-based plastics has caused one of the biggest environmental problems in recent years. Biotechnology has focused on addressing this problem through microorganisms that synthesize sustainable and fully biodegradable polymers, such as poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB). This biopolymer is produced naturally by some microorganisms, including the model cyanobacteria Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 that can carry out photoautotrophic, mixotrophic, or heterotrophic growth in a culture medium supplemented with glucose. This strain has its genome sequenced, and the genes of the PHB synthesis pathway have been described. However, due to the restrictions of use presented by the model strains, it is important to identify new natural producing strains of this biopolymer, which offer the possibility of finding outstanding characteristics to those already known. The DNA-based taxonomy of cyanobacteria focuses on the similarities among conserved sequences such as 16S ribosomal and differences among the 16S-23S intergenic ribosomal spacer (ITS). The analysis of the cyanobacteria from the laboratory collection, based on the amplification of the phaC gene, showed the B6B strain as a cyanobacterium with the potential to produce PHB naturally. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the growth and production of PHB by the Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 (control) and B6B strain in different media: photoautotrophic (BG11) and photomyxotrophic (BG11 added with glucose (G+) or acetate (A+)) and/or nitrogen limitation (N-) culture media. Besides, the molecular characterization of B6B was carried out for its identification at the genus level. The ITS region of the B6B strain showed a high percentage of GC (42.9%) and a high percentage of identity with species of the genus Synechocystis (94.48%), in addition to coding for the characteristic tRNAIle of the genus. The phylogenetic trees obtained with 16S rRNA and ITS sequences grouped the B6B strain in the Synechocystis clade. The ITS regions of B6B and PCC 6803 showed 21 nucleotides of differences between them, which allowed the two strains to be differentiated by RFLP analysis. The growth curves in BG11 medium obtained by cell counting and optical density measurements (730 nm) showed a higher growth rate for the B6B strain (μmax = 1.36) compared to the model strain (μmax = 0.91). Under photomyxotrophic conditions, biomass production was inversely proportional to PHB production for both ..
