Elderly is the inevitable stage of human life. Delicacy in this stage makes the aged persons dependent on others. Though elderly is a mark of respect in every culture, the problems faced by them are partly or mostly overlooked almost everywhere. As the problems of the aged people involve multidimensionality, the institutional approach proved not be proficient enough to meet all the aspects of their need in an optimum manner. On the other hand, Islam addresses this problem in a comprehensive manner through generating motivation as well as imposing obligation on others concerned. It is attempted in this article to make a general description of the west and Islam in their response towards the caring for the elderly

Case studies of Awqaf Properties and their development in Bangladesh
Waqf system is one of the most effective resolutions of Islam for social welfare of humankind. Waqf is the only kind of charitable system where working capital remains undiminished. Waqf system had been in effect in different Islamic State from the early age of Islam. It is found to be prevailed in Bangladesh also even before the advent of Islam in the region. But no informative, organized and authentic research on the Waqf Management had been carried out here due to lack of historical evidence, documentation and proper initiative. The objective of this research work is to depict the scenario of overall Waqf System of Bangladesh abridged. The brief introduction to Waqf, present scenario in the country, important stakeholders, the relevant laws prevailing waqf model in Bangladesh, inception of cash waqf in the country – in a nutshell, gross overview of waqf management in Bangladesh, its challenges, do’s and don’ts in its developments etc. have been discussed here. Most of the information has been extracted from secondary sources except essentially in some cases from primary sources. Due to inadequacy of information, overall scenario of waqf system of Bangladesh could not be depicted completely. However, propagation and practice of waqf system holds a bright prospect in Bangladesh as compared to other countries of the world due to the fact of 90% among 16 crores of its population being Muslim. If joint initiative is taken by Government, national & international organizations, hopefully induction of Waqf System would be gradually increased in Bangladesh

Healthcare of School Going Girls: An Empirical Study from Bangladesh Perspective
Poverty, large population, socio- economic inequalities and inadequate access to proper health care facilities are the key causes of under nutrition in Bangladesh. Adolescents are the most vulnerable group for under nutrition and having great consequence as they will be parent in future. Studies on nutritional status of adolescent girls are fewer in number and have great effect for intervention. The objective of this study was to assess the nutritional status and predisposing factors of under nutrition among the adolescent girls in Bangladesh. Education is critical to social and economic development and has a profound impact on population health. We review evidence for the health benefits associated with education in the context of a socio ecological model of health. The health benefits of education accrue at the individual level (e.g., skill development and access to resources); the community level (e.g., the health-related characteristics of the environments in which people live); and the larger social/ cultural context (e.g., social policies, residential segregation, and unequal access to educational resources). All of these upstream factors may contribute to health outcomes, while factors such as ability to navigate the health care system, educational disparities in personal health behaviors, and exposure to chronic stress act as more proximate factors. It is also important to consider the impact of health on educational attainment and the conditions that occur throughout the life course that can impact both health and education, such as early childhood experiences. After exploring the literature linking health and education, we may suggest to engage residents of a low-income, urban community in a process of creating causal models to try to identify new links between education and health and help refine our understanding of the complex phenomena that shape this relationship. We may ask community researchers to map out the pathways linking education and health in an effort to explore the possibility that people outside of academia might be able to help refine our understanding of complex phenomena by positing factors and relationships from their lived experience

Towards the Twenty-First Century: Islam and Vision 2020
I would like to thank the organizers for inviting me to the joint launching of the Institute of Islam Understanding, Malaysia and the opening ceremony of this congress. The idea of the Institute of Islamic Understanding, Malaysia, was first suggested because of the confusion among Muslims and nonMuslims regarding Islam. This discord has led to misunderstanding and animosity not only between Muslims and non-Muslims but among Muslims themsalves. Whether we like it or not, many non-Muslims consider Islam a religion that is closely related to backwardness, poverty and weakness. Of late, some Muslims have also been closely associated with violence and irrationality - an act or thought which is without principles.
Islam and Pluralism
This article makes an attempt to dispel the western prejudice that Islam does not believe in pluralism, is essentially an intolerant religion, believes in perpetual war, hold abhorrence towards peaceful, coexistence and negates religious freedom. The author quotes from authentic sources of Islam, contemporary Islamic literature and from history to negate the unfounded assertion and calls for better understanding and dialogue between Islam and the West and thus rekindle hope for peace for making this world a happier abode for all humankind and reconstruct a new world order where different civilizations could coexist peacefully without resorting to war and mutual destruction
