Scrisori, exive, şi petiţii: corespondenţa scrisă a persoanelor deţinute: Letters, exive and petitions: written communication of detainees
Following Vaclav Havel and Milan Simecka, will be observed the functions of the written correspondence between inmates and their families. Is, the diminution of uncertainty, tested by the newcomers in prison, one of these functions? Preparing a practical research, the academic paper contains a documentation of this question. On the other hand, the clandestine written correspondence - as exive or kites - seems to enhance the accommodation to the prison community. In their correspondence with the public authorities, the inmates may exercise the right to petition. The result of this dialog may influence either the inmates biography and the prison's practice
Vocabularies of community involvement in urban Romania
Many researchers consider that involvement in collective action, as defined by rational choice theorists, can be hardly explained without some appeal to cultural or psychological factors. This article discusses the results of a qualitative inquiry into the narratives of three types of actors of small urban community, including leaders of community organizations, active participants in collective actions, and the by-standers. It finds systematic differences in the stories provided by representatives of the three groups whose members have significantly different perspectives in terms of self-description and motivation for action. Therefore, we argue that explanations of individuals' availability for collective action based on social psychology and culturalist narratives should be taken into consideration
Societatea românească între polarizare şi stratificare. O perspectivă după 19 ani de postcomunism: Romanian society between polarization and stratification. Taking perspective after nineteen years of post-communism
After nineteen years of postcommunism, Romania experiences a lot of changes in the social structure. The way from a social structure, which characterized the communist society, to a different kind of social structure which characterized a democratic society, is not finished yet. A slight stratification resulting from the establishment of a middle class and the emergence of some new categories such as entrepreneurs, was visible in Romania after the year 2000. After this year, the level of poverty, as well as the level of unemployement began to decrease. This kind of optimism may desapeare in the context of the new financial and economic crisis. This crisis may increase the level of poverty again, and also the level of social homogenisation. Making a theoretical study as well as an empirical one, we analised some statistical data to identify the level of some socio-economic indicators, which help us to understand the process of social stratification in Romania

Deficit lingvistic, atitudini nepotrivite şi evaluare distorsionată: testarea a trei explicaţii pentru variaţia interetnică a rezultatelor şcolare ale elevilor de gimnaziu din Oradea: Linguistic Deficit, Inappropriate Attitudes and Distorted Assessment: Testing three Explanations for Ethnic Variation in the Academic Achievement of Secondary School Students in Oradea
The article tests three alternative models explaining differences in grades between ethnic minority students and members of the ethnic majority: linguistic deficit, oppositional culture and ethnically biased evaluation which add to the commonly held theories of ability and social reproduction. Separate OLS models of grades, received by 7th graders from a sample of students from the ethnically mixed city of Oradea, in Maths, Romanian language, and learning of native language provided support for all three theses. Thus, besides from being in disadvantage concerning their grades in Romanian language classes, Hungarian students display lower levels of integration in schools – measured through scores of school satisfaction and school engagement, which explains their poorer results in Math whereas they receive positively adjusted grades in Hungarian language classes, enough to compensate for the other disadvantages

Filicidul maternal şi paternal în România: tendinţe şi factori de risc: Maternal and paternal filicide in Romania: risk factors
The article presents the results of an investigation conducted on a group of people definitively convicted for committing acts of murder that in the domain literature can be confined to the term filicid. In our opinion, the term filicid means "murder committed by parents over their children, regardless of the victim's age" (Jacques D. Marleau et all, 1999). The aim of our investigations was to identify - at an individual, family and community level - the occuring risk factors influencing paternal and maternal filicid, in order to provide necessary feedback for actions ment to prevent the acts of murder committed by parents over their children. The methodology used allowed us to obtain information on the family of origin in which the aggressor has evolved until the age of 18 years, on the family he developed, on the relations inside the family of origin and inside the family the murder occurred in, information about how the crime was committed, as well as data on situational factors that have competed to achieve the act of violence. Since our research interest to murder commited inside family space materialized in the form of previous studies, in the present article we have also tried to achieve a comparison between those who commit murders inside the family area and individuals who commit filicid
Lege, preferinţă de timp şi criminalitate: Law, temporal preference and criminality
This article focuses on the theoretical research of the nature and the dynamics of the mechanisms and relations between the political system, legislative system, social time preference and the criminal phenomenon. The article has three parts: the first part contains the study of the general phenomenon of time preference; the second part contains the study of the relations between the political system and the legislative system, the incentive structure implied and the effects on the social time preference; and the last part contains the relation between the rise of social time preference and the criminal phenomenon. The research will show that the legislative system produces uncertainty in the social relations and the rise of social time preference. This rise of the social time preference stimulates the rise in criminal rate beyond the level that would have been reached in the absence of this rise (of the social time preference)
